KittyRoo Sweatshirt Winner

I am so excited to announce the winner of the warm and cuddly KittyRoo Sweatshirt. Random.org selected comment #22. When I counted up from the first comment, #22 was from Annie from Lucy’s Lounge. This is what she said about the KittyRoo is her comment, “That sweatshirt looks so cute, warm and cozy!” When it arrives, she’ll find out how right she was.

Tuesday Teaser Boo-Boo Award

Tuesday, Angel Sammy and Teddy (Two Spoiled Cats) told us that we were one of three “First Commenters” on their Tuesday Teaser post. Unfortunately WordPress made a mistake. As an apology, we got this super cool badge. Thank you Angel Sammy and Teddy.

GOOD DAY SUNSHINE

Sunshine Blogger Award

We were recently given the Sunshine Blogger Award by dear friend, Annie, from the blog: McGuffy’s Reader. We received this award three and a half years ago and are delighted to receive it once again. This Award is a way of recognizing bloggers who are positive and whose creativity inspires others. Annie, it warms our hearts that our blog does that for you.

As with most awards, this one has some rules:
  1. Thank the person who nominated you and add a link to their blog.
  2. Answer the eleven questions sent by the person who nominated you.
  3. Nominate eleven other bloggers, adding their links and asking them eleven new questions.
  4. Notify the bloggers you have nominated.

The questions Annie asked us and my answers (in teal italics):

1. What did you want to be when you grow up?
I always wanted to be a dancer, but with my neuromuscular disease that was never an option. Then I wanted to be a high school Home Economics teacher, but I stink at science. I started writing in the third grade, and it became obvious that’s the direction in which I was headed.
2. Who was your childhood hero?
I don’t remember having one.
3. What is your favourite song?
I have so many, but #1 is probably Van Morrison’s version of “Brown Eyed Girl.”
4. What was your first pet?
We had 13 cats when I was very little: a Persian mom and two kittens and another mom with nine kittens. We gave away all but two cats, Fluffy and Tiger. My sister and I really wanted to keep Fluffy but our parents ended up giving her away as well. The first pet I had of my very own was a cock-a-poo I adopted when I was a sophomore in college.
5. Who was your favourite teacher?
Sara Cooper, High School Home Economics Teacher
6. What was your best vacation?
This is really impossible. I have been on some totally incredible ones, but I’ll have to go with a river cruise that took us all through Russia.
7. What is your favourite time of day?
I don’t think I have one.
8. Who was your first friend?
My next door neighbor, Bobby Fields.
9. What is your favourite season?
Autumn
10. Do you have a phobia?
Fire
11. What would you like to do-over?
College, if I didn’t have to work full-time, which I did my Junior and Senior years.

Here are my nominees for The Sunshine Blogger Award. If any have already received this award, I apologize for the duplication. I do hope you will accept this award even if you decide not to pass it on to others.
These are my eleven questions for those who accept the award. I look forward to reading your answers.
  1. Who is your favorite author?
  2. Why did you start blogging?
  3. Beach or mountains for vacation?
  4. What is your favorite indulgence?
  5. If you had an unlimited amount of money, what would you do with it?
  6. If you could live any place in the world, where would it be?
  7. What is your favorite form of exercise?
  8. What is the most unusual job you’ve ever had?
  9. What was your first job?
  10. Do you believe in ghosts?
  11. Where do you get your news: newspapers, TV, computer?

I am sincerely thankful to Annie for selecting our blog to receive this award. Her creativity definitely inspires me.

Finally, what would a cat blog be without a photo of a cat? This photo is Mauricio wearing the virtual hat Sammy gave him for his birthday. The cupcake represents Mau’s bakery skills and his Cat Scout Bake Shop.

BROTHERS MAKE THE BEST PILLOWS

Tuxie/Toesy Doozy of a Snoozy Tuesday

Brothers make the Best Pillows

Five of the seven girls love their brother, Mau. Lily Olivia is not a fan; though, she has been caught snuggling when she doesn’t realize it’s him. The kitty who likes him least is his actual sister, Misty May. But then, Misty May doesn’t really like anyone but her dad and me.

Mauricio is almost always obliging and will snuggle or bathe any of the other girls who ask. And he’ll always wrestle with Calista Jo at mealtimes. So capturing Lisbeth and Mau like this was no surprise…but still cute! Go ahead a say, “ahh.” You know you want to!

We Were First!

We are great fans of our pal, Sammy’s, Tuesday Teaser. We rarely know the locale in the photos; though, we were the only right guesser a few weeks back. Well last Tuesday, like most other Tuesdays, we did not know the Teaser…but, we were the first to comment. Sammy gives an award for that as well. Here’s what we received.

1stcomment

What made this award extra special was that we didn’t have to share it with anyone else! Yippee! Thanks, Sammy. It’s lots of fun and a good way to wake up your brain!

If you are unfamiliar with Sammy’s Tuesday Teaser, visit his blog today, onespoiledcat, and check it out. It’s lots of fun and a good way to wake up your brain!

CREATIVE BLOGGER AWARD

We recently received this very nice award, which was new to us, from our pal, Purrince Siddhartha Henry. If you don’t know him, he’s the new kitty at what was Nylablue’s (our honorary sisfur) Purrfect Pad. You can meet Dharth by clicking here.

creative

As with most awards, we have a few rules to follow.

  1. Thank the one who gave you the award: Siddhartha you were so kind to pass this award to us. Thanks! It makes us so happy that you think we (and Mom) are creative.
  2. Link to the blog of the one who gave the award to you: We did that above.
  3. Now we must tell you five things about ourselves. This is a tough one. Which of us get to be the ones to share? What could you possibly not know about us or our mom? After excavating our brains for memories of funny or interesting things about ourselves, we ended up letting Mom list things about herself.
  • Mom and Dad met right after college when he was a Yellow Cab driver and she worked for Budget Rent-A-Car at the Santa Barbara, CA, Airport.
  • If you were to stand on the sidewalk facing the house in which Mom grew up in Campbell, CA, and then look to the right you would be looking straight at the front of eBay’s headquarters, just two blocks away. It is where a huge private estate was located when she was growing up.
  • Mom started riding motorcycles with her dad when she was three years old. Her dad would put a pillow on the gas tank for her to sit on and then strap her to him with a belt.
  • Mom has four tattoos: Pooh, Tigger, a ladybug (for good luck) and our blog logo.
  • Mom’s first pet of her very own was a five-pound cockapoo named Smack who she got when she was a sophomore in College.

Now we need to nominate 15 to 20 blogs to receive this award. This is the hardest part, but here are our nominees with links to their blogs:

FRIENDSHIP FRIDAY: VERY INSPIRING BLOGGER AWARD

Last Friday we were selected by Magellan and Ramona from Create with Joy as their Friend of the Week and the first to receive the Very Inspiring Blogger Award from them. They will continue to present this award to their featured Friend of the Week for several weeks to come. (To see our original post with regard to receiving this award, click here.)

Very Inspiring Blogger Award

We are inspired in some way by every blog we read. If not, we wouldn’t be reading them.

Today we are passing the award along to many of those blogs. We have selected blogs that we feel provide excellent educational and inspirational messages, those that devote much of their time to fostering and/or adopting and promoting adoption of special needs kitties and those that are huge advocates for adoption of rescue kitties and feature them often on their blogs! We know we will leave out many blogs fitting these criteria for which we apologize.

Some of those named may have this award or do not accept awards. If so, please forgive us for any inconvenience we may cause you.  Here are the bloggers we have selected for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award.

Those receiving this award are encouraged to:

  • Thank the person who nominated them and link to their blog.
  • Display the award logo.
  • Nominate 15 bloggers who inspire you and share their links with your readers.
  • Leave a comment on their blogs so they know that they’ve been nominated.
  • Mention three things that have inspired you during the past week.

We have done the first four of these things but have not mentioned the three things that have inspired us.

Inspiring

Melba

1. Brian’s Home post regarding Melba, a cat in desperate need of fostering or adoption prior to Monday, the 30th, when she is scheduled to be euthanized. Please click here to read her story. And please, please help if you can if only by sharing her story.

2. Our dad’s willingness to become more involved with Barn Cat Buddies by photographing kitties at Petco waiting for adoption. He also cleans cages, plays with and brushes the kitties.

3. Our vet, Dr. Kathy Neel, who treats us like family and not only agrees to make housecalls for our annual exams and vaccinations but also loves coming to our house to take care of us.

Friendship FridayWith this post we are participating in Create With Joy’s Friendship Friday Blog Hop. We also want to thank every blogger who has become our and Mom’s friend. The pet blogger community consists of the most generous, compassionate and caring individuals we have ever met. Kudos and love to all of you.

Purrs & paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

CATS IN TUTUS & A SURPRISE HONOR

honor

Like cats in tutus and tiaras, we are twirling with excitement. Okay, so Lily Olivia may not look too excited (and she’s only wearing a virtual tutu and tiara), but we are filled with delight and delirious with happiness!

Friendship FridayWe found out on Thursday afternoon that we are the Friend of the Week and have received the Very Inspiring Blogger Award from the Create with Joy blog. (Click on the badge to view the post.)

Create with Joy is one of the most popular and well-read blogs with a Google page rank of four! In our opinion, being featured there is like winning the lottery. And this honor came out of the blue (so to speak).

To celebrate receiving the Inspiring Blogger Award herself, Ramona from Create with Joy decided, over the course of the next several weeks, to select Friends of The Week in a range of categories and pass on the award to them!

Very Inspiring Blogger Award

FNN Roving Correspondent

Ramona asked one of her two adorable cats, Magellan (the newly appointed Roving Correspondent for the Feline News Network), to provide her with a list of some of his favorite Cat Blogs to receive the award and be the Friend of the Week. Mom (yeah, we are calling her that again) and The Cat on My Head were selected from the ranks to be Create with Joy’s first Inspiring Blogger. Did we say we feel honored as well as grateful?

Those receiving this award are encouraged to:

  • Thank the person who nominated them and link to their blog. (The link is above.) Thank you Ramona and Magellan from the bottom of our furry little hearts. We are truly honored to accept this award from you.
  • Display the award logo. See above.
  • Nominate 15 bloggers who inspire you and share their links with your readers. We will do this in another post sometime next week.
  • Leave a comment on their blogs so they know that they’ve been nominated. Ditto.
  • Mention three things that have inspired you during the past week. We will do this as well when we pass along the award.

If you do not know Magellan or his fursib, Tsunami, or d0 not follow Create with Joy, we suggest you check out their site. You are sure to find something you like from the varied and inspiring content.

Purrs, paw-pats and kisses to Magellan and Tsunami, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

THANKFUL THURSDAY MELANGE

[follow_me]

One Lovely Blog Award

We want to thank our furiends Cat Scout Shoko and fursib Kali from The Canadian Cats for the One Lovely Blog Award.

To accept this award we must tell you seven things about ourselves. (As always we will give eight answers so we all can pawticipate.) We don’t think there is a darn thing about us you don’t already know. Would it be okay if we share some actual and true facts as well as make some things up? It will be much more amusing. If you are bored, you can try to guess which are true and which are not.

1. Lily Olivia: I have applied for a patent on my recently invented bacon-flavored, edible underwear for cats.

2. Misty May: My best furiend is a stuffed bear named Snuffles.

3. Mauricio: I bite my toenails!

4. Giulietta: I am not afraid of the vacuum cleaner.

5. Fiona: I usually miss breakfast because I hide UTB while all the other kitties head downstairs to eat.

6. Astrid: I once auditioned for the part of The Cheshire Cat in an operatic version of “Alice in Wonderland.”

7. Lisbeth: One of the things on my Bucket List is to go zip lining.

8. Calista Jo: My name was Josette (Josie) when our humans adopted me.

We will now pay the honor forward by nominating eight of our bloggy furiends:

♦ Animal Shelter Volunteer Life ♦ Bailey Boat Cat ♦ Brian’s Home ♦ CATachresis ♦

♦ Eric & Flynn’s Adventures ♦ Lone Star Cats ♦ Tomcat Commentary by Tim ♦ 15 & Meowing ♦

Prize Winners

We recently won some cool prizes from 15 & Meowing and want to say, “thank you.” When the envelope arrived, Lily Olivia immediately pounced on it. She wouldn’t leave it alone until Mom opened the package and gave her a cute crocheted, nip-filled “pumpkin” toy. She immediately took off with it, and we haven’t seen it since.

Another Birthday Card

Finally, Mau & Misty May received this colorful and special card from Timmy, Einstein, Rumpy, Miss Fitz, Toby, Mr. Buttons and Buddy-Budd at Tomcat Commentary by Tim. Thanks gang! If Mom doesn’t fall down on the job again, Mauricio will report tomorrow about his Cat Scout Surprise Birthday party.

MONDAY MEOWSINGS POTPOURRI

Siblings, Mauricio and Misty May, were great snugglers when they were babies. Not so much anymore!

Upcoming Birthday Celebration

If you have The Cat Blogosphere calendar and remembered to turn the page today, you saw Mauricio and Misty May when they were itty bitty kittens. (The photo here is from the same time.) When we adopted the brother and sister, we dubbed them “The Babies” to differentiate them from the other older kitties. They are babies no more! On the 17th they turn ten years old.

You are invited to join us for a party on Wednesday that will include a giveaway from Pookapet. (You can read about this cool company tomorrow in our Tortie Tuesday post.) And we will have a comment-a-thon with proceeds going to the rescue or shelter chosen by the winner of a Random.org drawing.

Butterfly Light Award

Butterfly Light Award

A few days ago we received and passed on the Butterfly Light Award. We are now giving this to another blog: McGuffy’s Reader. This is my very favorite non-animal-centric blog; though, three kitties (Maggie P., Grizelda and Chloe Jo) and one woofie (Stella) are part of the household. McGuffy’s Reader is normally an award-free blog, but McGuffy Ann is making an exception for this award. If you are unfamiliar with her blog, please take this opportunity to visit.

Sunday Selfies

Yesterday’s Blog Hop was a huge success. Thanks to everyone who entered a selfie as well as supported and promoted the Hop. It is such an excellent way to make new friends. We’ll be doing it again next week, and even if you usually enter other blog hops that day or like to spend an Easy Sunday, you can still enter.

THANKFUL THURSDAY: BUTTERFLY LIGHT AWARD

[follow_me]

Butterfly Light Award

We are so proud and excited to show you The Butterfly Light Award we received from Sophie and Mom Beverly from moggiepurrs. This award was originally given to Don Charisma as a thank you from Belinda (the idiot writer) when he helped fix her computer.

Conditions For Accepting The Award

1. Write an acceptance post, making sure you link back to the blogger who awarded you and thank them. You MAY NOT lump this award in with a batch of other awards. Thanks so much Beverly and Sophie for this Butterfly Light Award. You are great friends. The link to your blog is above.

2. Individually name and re-award to a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 9,999,999 bloggers. You must let them know either personally with a comment on their blog OR a pingback.

Here are the bloggers I’m nominating for the Butterfly Light Award. They have spread the light to me and so many others on many occasions. I have selected them for their continued support of their fellow bloggers and for the help they give to animals with special needs or medical problems and/or their work to find forever homes for kitties without ones.

Animal Shelter Volunteer Life

Cat in the Fridge

Kitty Cat Chronicles

Savannah’s Paw Tracks

A Tonk’s Tail

Brian’s Home

3. Link back to Belinda’s blog either to http://idiotwriting.wordpress.com/2014/03/13/i-love-charismatic-geeks/ OR http://idiotwriting.wordpress.com/about/

4. Write a short paragraph – Entitled either “How I’m Spreading Light” OR “How I’m A Positive Influence”

This is one of those things I find hard to do as I consider it rather self-centered. I sort of think that the nominator should write it about their nominee, but if you know me at all, you know I am a rule follower; even though, my kitties are not. So here is my paragraph.

How I’m Spreading Light: Does writing a mostly light-hearted blog count? Seriously, Mauricio and I participate in Service Projects through Cat Scouts, which includes sending birthday and holiday cards to individuals in three different health-care-related facilities. I do try to help newer bloggers when they have questions or problems I have encountered and solved. And I do donate time and money to rescues, shelters and individual kitties.

5. Display Belinda’s lovely “Butterfly Light Award” badge on your blog, which you can see above.

So that’s it for the Butterfly Light Award, but while we are being thankful, we want to express our heartfelt appreciation to all of you who supported, participated in and commented on the last Sunday Selfies Blog Hop. You could have knocked me over with a whisker when I saw how many joined us. We will be doing it again this upcoming Sunday. Please join us and if you have the opportunity, let others know about it.

For those of you with an iPhone or iPad, Mom Emily from Kitty Cat Chronicles has told me about an application called MeowSnap. It is made specifically so kitties can take their own photos. It costs $1.99. I have downloaded it onto my phone, but the kitties haven’t tried it yet as we already have our selfie for this upcoming Sunday. KCC’s Sophie used it to take her selfie for last Sunday’s Hop.

Finally, thanks to all of you who have signed up to follow us on Twitter.

THANKFUL THURSDAY: BEST BIRTHDAY GIFTS EVER

A few days after her birthday, Astrid received a goody-filled box in the mail from her inamorato, Sampy from Kitty Cat Chronicles.

He is so thoughtful, sending her a big jar of her favorite treats, Pounce, which we can no longer find in our area. He also sent some great toys, which you can see in the photos. But best of all (included in the card on which he left his paw print in Astrid’s favorite color, purple) was his actual furs imbedded with catnip. Guess which of the birthday gifts Astrid liked best?

Astrid with Sampy furs

Astrid surrounded by her gifts and checking out Sampy’s nippy furs.

According to Sampy, the cheetah ball with the feathers (foreground left) is one of his favorite toys. I do have photos on my iPhone of Astrid playing with hers. Unfortunately, my phone has died, so I will show those to you at another time.

Card showing Sampy's paw print.

Card showing Sampy’s paw print.

Astrid is standing on the card’s printed message: Because of you, I even smile in my sleep. Among other things, Sampy wrote, “I know this is true because Mom and Dad have told me.” How sweet is that? Sampy said some other lovely things, but Astrid says she prefers not to share these with everybody. Though, if you look closely at the photos, you can easily read the card.

Mau photo bombs Astrid, and she tries to whap him.

Wanting to check out her birthday gifts, Mau photo bombs Astrid. She gives him the stink eye and tries to whap him.

Astrid was thrilled with all her birthday gifts and is sending Sampy more kisses than he can even imagine.

Astrid gets the gifts, and Lily Olivia gets the box.

teasernewfirstguesserIn other news, I am thankful, surprised and delighted that we received the First Right Guesser Award from Sammy (onespoiledcat) yesterday. I only knew the answer first one other time, but figured I was wrong so didn’t guess. I am proud to display Sammy’s newly designed award!

If you haven’t entered our CatLadyPaints giveaway for a print by Katzy, click here to do so. Leave a comment on yesterday’s post, letting me know which one of the above three prints you would be interested in receiving. The winner will be selected using Random.org. Those leaving a comment (one per person please) by September 1 at 8 p.m. EDT will be included in the drawing. The winner will be announced the following day.
