GINGER TABBY UPDATE

As I suspected, our house guest is not Charlie. Charlie’s mom, Rachel, and two human brothers came to the house yesterday morning and confirmed it. I feel so sad for them and pray their Charlie finds his way back home.

Not Charlie seems quite content here. He’s been watching lots of bird TV and doing some serious eating and napping. He is a champion at both the dangle and the double dangle.

We will have him scanned for a microchip within the next couple of days. Tom and others continue to share his photos on Facebook. If he does have a loving home, we want to make sure he finds his way back. If not…

Here are a couple of new photos of our guest, ginger tabby, Not Charlie. He is totally adorable, so feel free to squeee!

We will continue to update everyone as this story unfolds.

ON THE ROAD WITH JAZZY AND BOGIE

Cuteheads Transport

Saturday morning we set out in the cold for Elkin, NC, 129 miles from our home, to pick up kitties, Jazzy and Bogie. Jazzy and Bogie left Atlanta at around 8 a.m., and we were scheduled to pick them up at around 1:30 p.m. for our leg of the journey that would bring them to Salem, VA, with their final destination being Chantilly, VA.

Jazzy, a three/four-year-old, Maine Coon girl, and Bogie, a five-year-old, Manx/Mix boy, are two FIV+ kitties who were surrendered by their human but not because of being FIV+. They were surrendered because of temperament/behavioral issues. Granted, we were with them for only a couple of hours, but the very worst we could say about them is that Jazzy is shy. Bogie was an absolute lover. He let me give him endless head scritches while he purred and made air biscuits!

Jazzy and Bogie loaded up and ready for the next leg of their trip.

I brought sparkly balls for Jazzy and Bogie. They weren’t interested, however. Bogie eventually napped but Jazzy never took her eyes off me. She did finally give me a slow-blink kitty kiss. Sharkie and Blue accompanied us on our road trip so they could meet our precious cargo. This was their last adventure prior to returning home to Bailey on Nocturne.

This is some of what Jazzy’s new mom, Rhonda Dalton, posted on Facebook yesterday: “I put out my hand and she sniffed, head bonked and purrred it up.” Rhonda added, “Oh what a SWEETHEART. What a fool that person was that had her and dumped her at the shelter. If only they had given her the chance.”

Jazzy had been adopted off the internet and was only in her previous home for 15 days before being surrendered.

Be Forever Furless

It is with pleasure that we announce the winners of the Lilly Brush Be Forever Furless: Emma and Buster. I’ll be sending you an e-mail to get your mailing address.

Technical Difficulties

Sunday morning, I discovered that all the e-mail in The Cat on My Head account had totally disappeared, and I was not receiving any new e-mail. After an extended live chat with by service provider, West Host, I was told that the particular server used by my account was full! They were in the process of adding new memory but did not know how long that would take. Approximately 12 hours later, my old e-mail started to load. However, as of 2 a.m. this morning, I still had not received any of yesterday’s mail. I am thankful that finally it all seems to have been delivered.

As my blog is stored on this same server, I discovered that I could not upload any of my photos when I tried to write this post. Consequently, instead of this arriving in your mailbox last night at 12:01 a.m., you are now receiving it some 15 hours later. Due to this, we will not post a Doozy of a Snoozy tomorrow. Without any additional problems (photos from this post have been disappearing as I wrote it.), we will be back for Wordless Wednesday.

Thank you to everyone who joined our Sunday Selfies Blog Hop yesterday. At least that seemed to work thanks to Linky Tools.  If you did, however, try to load a selfie and were unable to do so, the blog hop is still open for submissions. And, of course, we hope you will join us again this upcoming Sunday.

Have a catabulous week!

OUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

As cats, we normally don’t make resolutions, but we are so tired of seeing that letter to Santa efurryday on our sidebar, we decided to make some. We figure if the lazy lady of the manor has something else to post there, she will file that Santa letter away on our poetry page and move on.

So here are our 2015 resolutions, which we have been promised will replace the Santa letter tomorrow. We decided that 12 would be a good number as it’s the number of months in the year.

belly-rub1. Get more scritches.
2. Get more belly rubs.
3. Get more treats and nip.
4. Always come when called unless napping, playing, eating, watching bird TV, day dreaming or participating in other cat-approved activities.
5. If in, demand to go out.
6. If out, demand to come in.
7. Don’t wash our butts in front of company unless it is an emergency.
8. Don’t eat Mom’s flowers when she’s watching.
catsonbed9. Take up as much space in the humans’ bed as possible by sleeping east/west instead of north/south.
10. Clear the kitchen counters of all items whenever possible.
11. Pretend to be deaf whenever a human is speaking to us.
12. Always help Mom with her crossword puzzles and sudoku.

Have you made or do you plan to make any resolutions? If so, we’d like to hear them. We might get some good ideas for next year.

Our brofur Bailey‘s pals, Sharkie and Blue, had another adventure on Sunday. Purrlease drop by tomorrow for details and photos.

MONDAY MEOWSINGS: SECRET PAWS PREZZIES

On the morning of Christmas Eve, Lily Olivia gave Mom 40 face kisses to make up for the cookie fiasco of the day before. So, in the spirit of forgiveness, our humans allowed us to open our Secret Paws prezzies that afternoon. As reported previously, our Secret Paws came from Mom Alana, Crepes, Mrs. Peabody, Louie, Niles, Sprinkle and Doodle from Cat in the Fridge. If you missed seeing the incredible sketch of Astrid that Alana made for Mom, you can see it here.

Here’s a couple photos of our loot with Fiona photobombing in the second one.

We received our favorite treat, Pounce, as well as Simply Nourish Freeze Dried, Turkey Treats. We haven’t tried these yet. We also received two fuzzy mice with feather tails, and a huge pack of Catnip Puffs as well as that cool owl with a feather tail. It hangs from a doorknob.

We are extremely grateful to Mom Alana and all the gang at Cat in the Fridge for these most pawsome prezzies and treats. Secret Paws rocks!

Purrlease join us tomorrow for a special post: Sharkie & Blue’s Most Excellent Cycling Adventure. If you missed our post, We Have Holiday Visitors, Sharkie and Blue are our honorary brofur Bailey‘s plushie furiends. They are visiting from Rome for the holidays.

SANTA KITTY TOY HOP FOR ANGELS OF ASSISI

 Santa Kitty Toy Hop Small

Our humans delivered our food and toy donation for the Santa Kitty Toy Hop on Friday. They went to our local (Roanoke, Virginia) no-kill shelter, Angels of Assisi.

Two of our QC Inspectors, Lisbeth and Fiona, check everything out before it is packed up.

Angels of Assisi offer the following services: Spay/Neuter, Well Pet Clinic, Microchipping, Dentals, Sick Pet Clinic, Feral Cat Clinic, Laboratory Services, Pharmacy and Grooming and these programs: Pets for Life, Hospice, Domestic Violence, Pets for Patroits, Assisted Living Outreach, Biscuit Fund, Harmony Farm and Prescription Discounts.

This is where Mom and Dad delivered the goodies.

This past October, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) announced that Angels of Assisi was the first place winner of the Rachel Ray 100K Challenge, receiving $30,000. During June, July and August, Angels of Assisi adopted out more than 800 animals. That was up more than 400 from the same period last year. The group attributes its success to partnering with the local PetSmart, which resulted in 300 adoptions.

A “Guardian Angel” program also was launched, where the organization covered medical costs that saved 100 animals.

Our silly Mom (wearing her cat ears and Kliban cat Christmas shirt) with Chelsea Ellis, Foster Coordinator, and Bo Nichols, Cat Caregiver.

Currently Angels of Assisi has only about 20 kitties in residence as well as a few dogs. This is way fewer than have been in residence when Mom has visited in the past. Mom and Dad and Chelsea and Bo gave the kitties crinkle balls and other toys to play with during the visit.

Santa Kitty Toy Ho

Some of the residents check out the Bird on the Wire scratcher and a crinkle ball but are more interested in what the humans are doing.

We want to thank Summer, Binga and Boodie’s mom, Janiss Garza, at Sparkle Cat for the idea and getting the ball rolling for the Santa Kitty Toy Hop. It’s always better to give, and we were happy to have the opportunity to help some local kitties who do not have their very own forever home for the holidays.

OUR SECRET PAWS 2014

Finally our Secret Paws prezies are ready to go to the P.O. tomorrow. Mom says it is really hard to accomplish anything with Astrid always glued to her lap. The remainder of us think she should just put Astrid on the floor and get on with her duties, but that tortie girl has Mom wrapped around her paw. She has used the tried-and-true tactic of purring and kneading to make Mom feel guilty whenever she wants to remove her. Pffft!

She unloaded Astrid long enough today to sneak in the guest room and wrap the goodies. She wouldn’t allow any of us to help. We have reputations for leaving claw and fang marks in wrapping paper and getting our furs stuck to the tape. We are sure most of you would agree, those are just the things that give a gift a special purrsonal touch. Besides that, it’s not as if we need to worry that the recipient might be allergic to some cat spit or fur! Our reasoning did not sway her, and so like all of you, we only get to see the photos.

All wrapped up in Hello Kitty paper, of course!

At the completion of the project, the remnants of the packaging and the plastic bag that had stored the nip ended up in the kitchen. Several of us, including Lisbeth, discovered and took pleasure in exploring these treasures.

So that’s it for our 2014 Secret Paws report. We’ll be back tomorrow for a Doozy of a Snoozy Tuesday.

Thanks to all of you who purrticipated in our Sunday Selfies Blog Hop this week. We are still working on getting around to visit each of you. We hope you can find time during your busy holiday schedules to join us again next Sunday.

#99 CAUGHT SNORING ON THE JOB

Giulietta, AKA Quality Control Inspector/Snoopervisor #99, was found sleeping on the job yesterday. While Mom was busy floofing the branches on our big Christmas tree, Giulietta, who was on duty at the time, disappeared. Mom looked all over the living room for her, but she was no where in sight. Then Mom heard it…snoring! Following the sound, this is what Mom found. (Be sure to turn up the volume on your computer.)

Giulietta had burrowed into a pile of bubble wrap and was totally obscured before Mom pulled it away from her head.

When Santa heard about this infraction he expressed great disappointment in Giulietta. He said that he would have let her off with just a warning for hiding and sleeping on the job. However, with the added charge of disturbing the peace with her snoring, Santa said that he was required to give her a ticket as well as assign her additional hours of inspecting and snoopervising.

The following was Giulietta’s reply to Santa:

#99 lies down on the job snoring

Immediately followed by this:

#99 lies down on the job snoring

We are relatively certain that Giulietta is now on Santa’s naughty list!

Book Winners

We are excited to announce the winners of the signed copy of the book, Tail’s from Cyprus as Told by Liza. Wally, Ernie and Zoey (The Island Cats) will be receiving this delightful book.

MEOWING WITH WAFFLES & FRIENDS

Like all the groupies who attended the Bark/MeowWorld Conference in Atlanta, our mom (aka The Traitor) was gaga about getting to spend time with celebricat Waffles (Glogirly)! Though she had met him at BlogPaws in May, she’d had no opportunity to interact. But this time, a Cocktail Party to celebrate Waffles’ debut on the can of Mike’s Harder Firebomb Apple Ale was scheduled for Friday evening.

Meow Waffles

Waffles Posing

When the appointed time arrived our mom The Traitor and Sampy’s (Kitty Cat Chronicles) mom, Emily, headed for the party. They were advised before entering to speak quietly so as not to upset the guest of honor. With the crush of people in Waffles’ hotel room, Mom expected to find that Waffles had retreated UTB. To her surprise, he was out and about greeting his admirers.

The Traitor got up close and personal and fed Waffles some kibble. And she took dozens of photos. We are only sharing a few as this is our blog after all. The Traitor says we don’t need to remind her. She claims that by allowing forcing us us to write this post, she is acknowledging our importance and ownership of this blog.

Waffles dives head first into The Traitor’s purse.

When The Traitor and Mom Emily met up, Mom gave her some homegrown nip for all the kitties and Astrid furs for Sampy. These had been in ziploc bags in her purse. Waffles quickly gravitated toward the lingering aroma.

Mom and Waffles discuss his “naughty” behavior over a can of Firebomb Apple Ale.

We guess, if it is your room and your party, kitties are allowed to do whatever they want. Mom claims to have had a talk with Waffles about his “naughty” behavior, but we think they were canoodling. She says that he seemed to listen, but she noticed forays into other purses as well.

After cocktails 16 of the partygoers braved the wind and rain for a dinner together at Maggiano’s arranged by Mom Emily. On their return to the hotel several of the ladies remained in the lobby in order to continue their visit with Emily.

The Traitor did not confine herself to hobnobbing with Waffles. She also betrayed us with two foster kittens, Stoli & Sangria, from Random Felines. So not only did she come home smelling of Waffles and Huck, she was covered with kitten essence as well. How rude and inconsiderate can one person be?

She’s not sharing info about the conference as she says most of it was pretty boring. According to her the best part was spending time with human and furry friends.

MONDAY MEOWSINGS POTPOURRI

Siblings, Mauricio and Misty May, were great snugglers when they were babies. Not so much anymore!

Upcoming Birthday Celebration

If you have The Cat Blogosphere calendar and remembered to turn the page today, you saw Mauricio and Misty May when they were itty bitty kittens. (The photo here is from the same time.) When we adopted the brother and sister, we dubbed them “The Babies” to differentiate them from the other older kitties. They are babies no more! On the 17th they turn ten years old.

You are invited to join us for a party on Wednesday that will include a giveaway from Pookapet. (You can read about this cool company tomorrow in our Tortie Tuesday post.) And we will have a comment-a-thon with proceeds going to the rescue or shelter chosen by the winner of a Random.org drawing.

Butterfly Light Award

Butterfly Light Award

A few days ago we received and passed on the Butterfly Light Award. We are now giving this to another blog: McGuffy’s Reader. This is my very favorite non-animal-centric blog; though, three kitties (Maggie P., Grizelda and Chloe Jo) and one woofie (Stella) are part of the household. McGuffy’s Reader is normally an award-free blog, but McGuffy Ann is making an exception for this award. If you are unfamiliar with her blog, please take this opportunity to visit.

Sunday Selfies

Yesterday’s Blog Hop was a huge success. Thanks to everyone who entered a selfie as well as supported and promoted the Hop. It is such an excellent way to make new friends. We’ll be doing it again next week, and even if you usually enter other blog hops that day or like to spend an Easy Sunday, you can still enter.

LilyO2-001RANDOM STUFF #4: Happy Labor Day to all our friends in the U.S. and Canada. It is our sincere wish that you are not laboring but spending time with family and friends. Usually considered the unofficial end of summer, the last weekend for public pools to be open, and time for school to start, we are sad to report that all of these things came in mid-August where we live. Mom is glad she was a kid in the olden days when summer vacation was actually three months long!

FINALLY: A must see adorable video of two unusual friends.
