DO YOU MAKE YOUR BED?

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #68

As we do each Friday, we are participating in the Friendly Fill-Ins blog hop hosted by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). Kitties Blue have allowed me to complete all the fill-ins. My completions are in teal italics.

To join the hop, click on the badge below to go to Annie’s blog where you can add the link to your post. Both Annie and Ellen publish the Fill-Ins on Thursday, so if you haven’t joined in this fun hop, check out their posts next week so you can complete the Friendly Fill-Ins. It’s a fun way to learn a bit more about your fellow bloggers.

1.  Making the bed is a waste of time, But Dad Tom likes it made. He does it each day, usually having to work around Lily Olivia and Calista Jo.

Lily naps through Friendly-Fill-ins.

With 18 years of practice, Lily Olivia is the consummate napper.

2.  My favorite app is PhotoFaceFun.

3.  My first car was a lemon yellow 1966 Plymouth Valiant with black interior and bucket seats. I was 22 years old when I got it in 1971.

4.  The best car I ever owned was is my current car (a 2011 red Ford Fusion), because it has heated seats and a vanity plate that reads, PRRFCT!

Mau would like to add that he has owned three “cars.” His favorite is his Cat Scouts Hooligan Paddy Wagon. If you’ve never seen it, visit our post, “Cat Scouts: Start Your Engines.”

Friendly Fill-Ins

Prior to leaving for 2015 BlogPaws Conference

As this is a short post today, Kitties Blue and I would like to take the opportunity to ask for your continued prayers, purrs and POTP for the Friends Furever kitties, Allie (Mau’s wife) and Raz’s, Dad Bill. He remains hospitalized and on a ventilator. Thank you.

CARDWOOD DERBY TROPHY FOR MAU & COOPER

Thoroughly Poetic & Thankful Thursday

Writing poetry is hard. Though I write about half the poetry that appears on this blog, sometimes it makes my brain hurt. This week my rhyming mojo is just plain missing. So, I am apologizing now if this week’s offering makes you feel like hissing.

The prompt letter for this week’s poem is “W.”

2017 CARDWOOD DERBY TROPHY

Even Runners-up Can Be Winners

It’s always fun to be declared a WINNER
Even better than having a chicken dinner,
Unless, of course, you are Ashton or Bear,
Then for a tasty chicken is your only care.
Cooper and I were in the Cardwood Derby,
And Cat Scout Denmaster thought us worthy
Of this cool trophy for being first runner-up.
I think this is what they call a loving cup.
To receive it was a huge surprise.
We could barely even believe our eyes.
Both our names on a plaque are engraved
To indicate the stiff competition we braved.
Cat Scout Obi won for the second year
In a super fast dragster that had no peer.
But all the others followed our Paddy Wagon,
And in the dust we left their tails a draggin’.
Next year we’re planning to drive mush faster,
As this Derby race we’d someday like to master.
But as you can see we’re not complaining
Just planning for our designing and training,
As WINNING this race would be such a pleasure,
As well as a memory we would always treasure.

We are joining Teddy and Angel Sammy at TwoSpoiledCats, and hope you will do the same by writing a poem each Thursday. It’s a great way to exercise your brain. To read their poem and find links to other poems, click on Sammy’s badge. We believe that Teddy is also writing a poem about his Derby wins and trophy.

As you might suspect, winning this cool trophy finds us very happy and thankful. So we are entering Brian’s Thankful Thursday blog hop as well. To join that hop, click on Brian’s badge.

Do you have something for which you are thankful, like being plied with catnip while your humans are away at the BlogPaws Conference? Let us know in the comments.

Ciao and meow, Mau

I’M A PROUD TUXEDO CAT

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Once again Mauricio has taken paw to paper to write a poem for Teddy and Angel Sammy’s Thoroughly Poetic Thursday. Our prompt letter for this week is “T.”

Tuxedo Cats

I have a tuxedo. I’m decked out in white and black.
Thankfully I don’t wear a top hat, as I’m a cat.
My formal wear goes from my ears to my toes.
While some cats have white spats, I have pantyhose.
If you’re a feline with more white than black,
Some may unwittingly call you a cow cat.
But I consider those white furs a dinner jacket.
You’re just as formal as I am; they need glasses.
Unless, of course, you like to wallow in the dirt
And scuff up that fine, pristine tuxedo shirt.
Then someone may think you really are a cow.
If that happens, you must let out a loud meow
To let them know you’re wearing special furs.
And once you’re clean they’ll know for sure,
You’re a proud and stunning cat in formal wear
Ready for a quiet day of napping or a fancy affair.
But whatever your color and type of furs,
You are special and should be proud of what’s yours!

Thankful Thursday

Screen Shot 2017-04-26 at 11.35.21 PMWe mentioned after the Cat Scouts Cardwood Derby that Denmaster would be sending Mau and Cooper Murphy a special prize, called Hooligan in a Can. The boys and I thought this was a joke, so we were surprised when a package arrived. And there it was, sporting a Cooper Murphy-like orange kitty on it’s label.

If you enjoy pranks and shenanigans, you’ll be clapping your paws in delight for Hooligan in a Can. Here’s what you’ll find inside:

  • Premium Catnip Toys, Silvervine, Valerian and Cat Treats to Get Your Cat High
  • Everything your hooligan cat needs for a night of shenanigans!
  • Euphoria-inducing catnip, Silver Vine and Valerian Root takes your cat to her Happy Place
  • Premium interactive cat toys (including the Red Dot game with 3 extra batteries) offer special appeal!
  • Got the munchies? Two packs of premium cat treats have gotcha covered.

Though this was a gift for Mau and Cooper Murphy, Kitties Blue all share and are thankful to Denmaster for this cool gift. Mauricio is working on a poem for Denmaster to express his gratitude. Sometimes he just can’t help himself when it comes to writing in rhyme.

…IT’S TOTALLY OKAY TO BE HAPPY AND SAD AT THE SAME TIME…*

Cat Scouts Cardwood Derby Results

This is the happy portion of today’s post.

The Hooligan Paddy Wagon - Cat Scouts Cardwood DerbyOur Cat Scouts, Mau and Cooper Murphy, are thrilled to report that they did quite well in this year’s Cat Scouts Cardwood Derby thanks to our readers and friends voting for them. No they did not take first place. For the second year in a row, Scout Obi took that honor in his Furrarri. But…wait for it…they and Cat Scout Teddy (Angel Sammy’s young brother) and his Moojuice Truck were the first runners-up. Jackson Galaxy was this year’s celebrity judge. This is what he said about Cooper and Mau’s entry, “Since I deal with hooligans in my line of work, I could use a Hooligan Paddy Wagon!”

Cooper Murphy and Mau also placed in two of the four voting categories. These were determined by popular vote. They placed second in the Most Creative category and third in the Crowd Favorite category.

This is what Denmaster said about the boys’ entry, “I’d also like to thank Scout Mau and Scout Cooper Murphy for their service in keeping hooliganism down at the event. Scouts Reno and Homer (two of Denmaster’s Cat Scouts) enjoyed their time in the Hooligan Paddy Wagon. As a thank you for the service, you will receive Shenanigans brand ‘Hooligan in a Can.’ Hooligan in a Can purrvides you with all the stuff you need to engage in shenanigans and mayhem. It is not endorsed by the Cat Scouts High Council.” We don’t think this product actually exists!

Cooper Murphy, Mauricio and I would like to thank all of our friends and followers who voted for them.

Nellie Gets Her Wings

We learned yesterday that a good friend and blogging icon, the beautiful Queen Nellie, passed on Good Friday. Though Nellie’s health has been failing for quite sometime, she and all her friends hoped to celebrate her 19th birthday with a big party on May 15th. We know she’ll be having a huge party at the Bridge with all her friends who passed before her. And we know she was greeted with huge hugs and rousing purrs and woofs. Though she is no longer with us physically, she will remain in our hearts and memories forever. Run free, Nellie! We love you.

Nellie, Forever (1)

If you haven’t had the opportunity, please stop by Nellie’s blog, Nellie on the Edge, and leave your condolences for her mom, Barb.

Sunday Selfies Blog Hop: Week #139

Phoebes-Traveling-ShadesWe have been waiting and waiting and waiting… Last summer we joined Pheobe’s (15AndMeowing) Traveling Shades tour. Summer came and went, fall came and went, winter came and went, and we were still waiting. Finally the shades reappeared, being worn by Mudpie (Melissa’s Mochas, Mysteries and Meows). We had hope that we’d get our turn. And two days ago the sunglasses arrived in our mailbox.

Petretary wants to get at least one photo of each of us wearing them. We are not going to hold our collective breaths, but let’s make it clear right now—ain’t ever gonna happen! One reason for that is the shades don’t fit all of us. Lily Olivia tried them on but they just kept falling off. Then I, your selfie host today, tried them on. They were too small for me. With any luck at least one of my fursibs will have a head that is somewhere between the size of Lily’s and mine.

I did manage to snap a couple of so-so selfies with the shades atop my head. Then I went to piZap and picked a nice springtime frame to complement the frame on the shades. And here it is. Sorry I didn’t look at the camera.

Astrid thought she was pretty special last week when she got three posts in succession. My plan is for the same thing for myself. Keep your paws crossed for me.

Cat4-001

Now, the petretary says that I have to do the business of this post. Frankly, I think that is her responsibility, but if I want that third post, I figure I best comply.

This is our Sunday Selfies blog hop. All critters and their humans are invited to join in the fun. The link to add your selfie is below as is the code to add the hop to your post. If you decide to do this, would you please do us the courtesy of linking back to The Cat on My Head and/or displaying our badge.

If you cannot join us today, the hop remains open through Thursday.

My fursibs and I and the petretary are so grateful to have so many friends and supporters of our Sunday Selfies blog hop. Please accept my sincere thanks on behalf of all of us.

CALISTA JO MEETS CHIHULY

Caturday Art

Screen Shot 2017-04-010

Today’s art was created using the following two photos: Calista Jo rolling around on the kitchen rug and a photo Dad Tom took a few years ago of a glass ceiling at a Chihuly* exhibit in Montreal.

caturdayartbannerAfter laying the ceiling photo over C.J. using PicMonkey, I added one of the “space” effects in the hardlight mode. I followed that by adding the HDR effect and the double border in Picasa.

CAT SCOUTS: START YOUR ENGINES!

Not So Wordless Wednesday

After Misty May hijacked the blog yesterday, Cooper Murphy and I decided to do the same. This means the petretary was forced to put her scheduled post on the back burner again. Woohoo…Kitties Blue = 2/petretary = 0. How many days do you think we can keep this up?

Bet you are wondering what is so gosh darn important that we had to bump petretary’s post. It is the third annual Cat Scouts Cardwood Derby. It is my third entry, but only Cooper’s first, as he’s a new Scout.

I think this is my most pawsome entry to date. Seems Mom and I are getting to be better builders with each successive year. And Dad Tom helped some this year as well. I know that made a huge difference.

Cooper Murphy and I want to share some photos of our Cat Scouts Hooligan Paddy Wagon. We are up against some stiff competition this year: a Furrari, Bucatti, milk delivery truck, a monster truck and a flying saucer, just to name a few of the entries. Voting will begin soon to determine the popular vote winner. We hope we can count on your votes. We’ll let you know how and when you can vote.

Okay, now that I’ve set the scene, here are a few photos.

We’ll share more photos in another post. If you’d like to see my previous two Cat Scouts Cardwood Derby entries, you can do so here and here. I think you’ll agree that this year’s entry is superior to my previous ones.

Giveaway Reminder

You only have two more days to enter our current giveaway. We are giving away a really wonderful product: the KittyRoo sweatshirt. It offers a warm and snuggly pouch for kitty or a small puppy. The petretary claims this hoodie (with cat ears) is luxuriously soft and comfy. She feels as if she has on her P.J.s when she’s wearing it. To read our original review and see some photos, click here. To win a sweatshirt for you and your human, leave a comment on the KittyRoo post prior to 5 p.m. ET on Thursday, April 6.

Though this is a darn wordy post, we are still entering the Wordless Wednesday blog hops.

MISTY MAY’S ONE-EYED SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #77

Misty May's one-eyed selfie: Tuxedo Cat lying down and winking.

Misty May claimed that she didn’t need more than one eye open to take a good selfie. For a kitty who doesn’t do the selfie thing very often, I’ve got to admit she did a darn good job. She was resting her head on her dad’s knee when she snapped this.

If you haven’t entered our Sunday Selfies Blog Hop, what are you waiting for? Ninety percent of cats are taking selfies, which means you are in the minority if you’re not. No cat wants that. So pick up your paw and push the button on your human’s cell phone and hop along with us. If you aren’t a cat, you can still enter. All anipals are always welcome.

Cat4-001Personally, we think tongue selfies are just fine, and we encourage them. What would selfies be without a great tongue shot from Crockett at Lone Star Cats.

The link to join our blog hop is below as is the code to include the hop on your blog. Should you decide to do this, please include our badge and/or link back to The Cat on My Head. Thanks for your continued support.

A THANK YOU AND A REQUEST

My dear friends,

Thank you so much for celebrating my birthday with me. Each and every one of you are so special to me and my family.

I had a very nice and quiet day. The best part was getting bonita flakes atop my dinner and also for dessert. I also got a little piece of Dad’s tuna from his dinner. Oh, and I stole a Wheat Thin, just ’cause I could. I licked it some and then threw it on the floor. Good times. As I dictate this to the typist, I am curled up next to Dad while he watches The Blacklist on T.V.

Two of our wonderful friends made me birthday cards. They are both so beautiful, and I am thrilled to have received them.

Thank you and request from Lily Olivia

This card is from Toby at Doggie and Kitty Caperz. Isn’t he handsome?

Thank you and request from Lily Olivia

This card is from Pipo, Minko and Mom Ingrid at WeBeesSiameezers.

I am not that fond of my brofur Mauricio. But I am feeling generous since he made that gorgeous cake for me. So I offered to do him a favor. As reported earlier, Mau has entered the Cardwood Derby with his Cat Scout University Campus Security vehicle. He could use your votes to to get in the derby finals. The deadline for voting was extended until today at noon EST. We know some of you tried to vote and couldn’t because of an error in the link. Mom sent the correct link to those of you who asked.

For anyone who wanted to vote and couldn’t or anyone else who’d like to, here’s a reminder of what Mau’s car looks like.

Thank you and request from Lily Olivia

You can vote by going here. Several voting categories exist. Mau is listed in each category. I thank you and so does Mau.

Purrs, paw-pats and my heartfelt thanks, Lily Olivia
