THANKFUL TO BE BAD TO THE BONE

Thankful Thursday

Thursday is the day we set aside to list the things for which we are thankful.

Sawyer is first up with his thankful today. Though he was less than keen on having his photo taken, he does want to show off his statue and chirpy bird prize from winning the Bad to the Bone category in the 2021 Golden AssRabbit Award contest.

bad to the bone

Sawyer also was honored with this magazine cover, for which we want to thank Rabbit’s clever and creative mom, Kim. If you don’t follow her blog, It’s a Wonderpurr Life, you are missing out on lots of fun.

Bad to the Bone

Though Dad Tom and I were not pleased with Sawyer’s unauthorized “adventure,” we are proud of him for his win. Cooper Murphy, however, is jealous and already working overtime on his badness, so he can enter next year’s contest.

I am thankful my hand is healing after Cooper’s unintentional (?) maiming.

And, as always, Kitties Blue and I are thankful for your friendship and support.

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by everyone’s pal, Brian. Please say some extra prayers for Brian today, as he is undergoing an endoscopic biopsy in an attempt to determine if he is suffering from IBD or lymphoma. And please continue to send POTP while he and his family wait the for the test results.

If you’d like to join the hop, post on your blog for what you are thankful, and then click on Brian’s badge to link up.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Of course, Thursday also is the day for the Two Spoiled Cats, Angel Sammy and Teddy’s, poetry challenge. This week’s inspiration photo is particularly amusing, and I hope you find my poem equally amusing.

Don’t Forget Your Underwear

Kilts and wind do not make a good team,
Especially if your undies aren’t pristine.
And if you’re leaving home without underwear,
You best check the weather and take care
To avoid a chance of encountering a breeze,
Passersby seeing your bum won’t be pleased.
So if you’ve a kilt hanging in your closet,
Best stay out the wind to avoid any gossip.

If you’d like to take part in next week’s poetry challenge, click on the badge below. You will find next week’s inspiration photo as well as Angel Sammy’s poem for this week. He is a terrific wordsmith, so you don’t want to miss reading it.

Thanks for visiting. We look forward to seeing you again tomorrow.

GRUMPY, BAD TO THE BONE SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #366

grumpy

I may not be the famous Grumpy Cat, but I am the infamous grumpy cat, especially after my walkabout. You can see by this kitten photo that I’ve always had a grumpy face.

grumpyI don’t know how many of you are familiar with Jeff Dunham and his “dummy” Walter, but that’s who my mom and dad think I look like in my baby photos. I do look a little less grumpy as an adult.

Anyhoo, I am here today so I can announce: I did not win the Golden AssRabbit Award for 2021. I am proud to announce, however, that I was the winner in the “Bad to the Bone” category.

This is what AssRabbit (Hermes) had to say about me and my win: “Sawyer’s three-and-a-half-week disappearing act raised concern and blood pressure for so many voters on both Instagram and Twitter and in the blogging world. He was pretty famous for being in the dog house already when he went on his walkabout. Sawyer had some pretty tough competition from others in his category, but when the final votes were tallied, he was the clear winner.”

If you missed my entry to the Golden AssRabbit Contest, you can read it at “Good, Bad or Thoughtless.”

As a winner I will receive a Golden AssRabbit statue, a special kitty toy and an Award Certificate. When I receive my awards, I will share photos here.

Hopping Time

It’s your turn now to share your selfie with us as well as all your friends and admirers. My fursibs and I know none of you will be grumpy, as most of you enjoy taking selfies. And as soon as your done and have joined the hop, you’ll have the entire day to enjoy your easy. Your participation, support and friendship are so important to all us Kitties Blue and our humans. Thank you.

Purrs and paw-pats, Grumpy, Bad to the Bone Sawyer

A MAGICAL POEM & THANKFUL FOR CWA AWARD

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Time for another poem based on an inspiration photo provided by Teddy and Angel Sammy at Two Spoiled Cats. Here is that photo and my poem.

Magic in The Air

I feel magic in the air.
If I enter this boat, I bet it wold take me there,
To the place where frisky kitties romp and play,
And every day concerns are far, far away.
I need a place like that right now…
No virus, protests or riots, but lots of meows.
I’m on overload from the daily news
And think I could be bolstered by some mews,
With furry kitties cuddling and snuggling me
Until this all goes away and we are free
To go about our normal daily lives,
With our spirits and relationships revived.

If you’d like to participate in Teddy and Angel Sammy’s poetry challenge, you can find the inspiration photo over at Two Spoiled Cats. To get there, click on the badge above. And while you are visiting make certain to read Angel Sammy’s poem. He sends it to Teddy each week from the Rainbow Bridge, and it is always first rate. Also, while visiting, look for links to other poems in the Comments section.

Thankful Thursday

In addition to writing a poem each Thursday, Kitties Blue and I join the Thankful Thursday  blog hop hosted by Brian. No matter what is going on in the world or our lives, we always have things for which to be grateful.

Our first thankful is for the 19 days Sawyer had between seizures. Yes, that means he had a seizure. It was Tuesday night, and so the count begins again. We all pray that he will have another long seizure-free spell.

Thankful number two is for Periwinkle, Stinky and Mom’s Certificate of Excellence from the Cat Writers’ Association. They received it for “The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky Part I: Leapin’ Lizards.” Mom was pretty flabbergasted to have the story recognized. She entered it in the Short Story/Flash Fiction category. She’s now in the running for a Muse Medallion. Only one other certificate was awarded in the category, so she has a 50% chance of winning. Regardless, she has no expectation of that happening. We are just super proud of our little tabbies, Stinky and Periwinkle (Friends Furever), and our mom.

Mom got another Firstie badge from Two Spoiled Cats for being one of three first commenters on Teaser Tuesday, along with Friends Furever and Timmy Tom Cat.

Finally, we are thankful for all our friends, followers and supporters. Without you, we would not be here.

To join the blog hop, post on your blog for what you are thankful and then click on Brian’s badge to go to his blog and enter your link.

We continue to pray that everyone stays safe and healthy.

MEMORIES OF THINGS PAST

Thankful Thursday

We are overflowing with thankfuls this week.

Stinky asked to start. He wants to let those who joined Periwinkle and him for their last adventure just how grateful he is. His alter ego, Sawyer, has been having a seizure every six days for the past several weeks, so he is so grateful to have these distractions.

I have the most thankfuls. Last Thursday I completed my 900th Peloton ride and got a shout-out from instructor, Emma Lovewell. I have already completed 10 rides toward my 1000.

I was the sole First Commentor on the Tuesday Teaser at Two Spoiled Cats and I was one of the (though not first) Right Guessers. I got these two cool badges.

The Cat on My Head earned two top blog recognitions. One is from CatPet Club. They named us one of the Ten Best Blogs by Enthusiastic Cat Moms as part of their 50 Cat Lover Blogs We ❤️.

The Cat on My Head also was named a Top Cat Blog at WildernessCat.

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by our friend Brian. We think recalling for what we are thankful each week is important. It helps us remember how lucky and blessed we are. If you agree, post on your blog for what you are thankful. Then click on Brian’s badge and link up.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

We are back with another poem today as part of Teddy and Angel Sammy’s weekly poetry challenge. Here’s today’s inspiration photo and my poem.

I recognize so many of these items, the Beatles & Elvis albums, saddle shoes, Mickey Mouse ears, a lava lamp and so much more. If I was a compulsive saver, these items could be mine.

Memories of Things Past

At first glance this looks like chaos
Possibly the attic of a hoarder.
But look carefully. Each object…
A precious memento arranged
With purpose in a specific group
Mostly by stages of this person’s life.
By examining each we can deduce
Who this stranger is: someone who is
Nostalgic with a wistful affection for
The happy memories of the past.

GOOD DAY SUNSHINE

Sunshine Blogger Award

We were recently given the Sunshine Blogger Award by dear friend, Annie, from the blog: McGuffy’s Reader. We received this award three and a half years ago and are delighted to receive it once again. This Award is a way of recognizing bloggers who are positive and whose creativity inspires others. Annie, it warms our hearts that our blog does that for you.

As with most awards, this one has some rules:
  1. Thank the person who nominated you and add a link to their blog.
  2. Answer the eleven questions sent by the person who nominated you.
  3. Nominate eleven other bloggers, adding their links and asking them eleven new questions.
  4. Notify the bloggers you have nominated.

The questions Annie asked us and my answers (in teal italics):

1. What did you want to be when you grow up?
I always wanted to be a dancer, but with my neuromuscular disease that was never an option. Then I wanted to be a high school Home Economics teacher, but I stink at science. I started writing in the third grade, and it became obvious that’s the direction in which I was headed.
2. Who was your childhood hero?
I don’t remember having one.
3. What is your favourite song?
I have so many, but #1 is probably Van Morrison’s version of “Brown Eyed Girl.”
4. What was your first pet?
We had 13 cats when I was very little: a Persian mom and two kittens and another mom with nine kittens. We gave away all but two cats, Fluffy and Tiger. My sister and I really wanted to keep Fluffy but our parents ended up giving her away as well. The first pet I had of my very own was a cock-a-poo I adopted when I was a sophomore in college.
5. Who was your favourite teacher?
Sara Cooper, High School Home Economics Teacher
6. What was your best vacation?
This is really impossible. I have been on some totally incredible ones, but I’ll have to go with a river cruise that took us all through Russia.
7. What is your favourite time of day?
I don’t think I have one.
8. Who was your first friend?
My next door neighbor, Bobby Fields.
9. What is your favourite season?
Autumn
10. Do you have a phobia?
Fire
11. What would you like to do-over?
College, if I didn’t have to work full-time, which I did my Junior and Senior years.

Here are my nominees for The Sunshine Blogger Award. If any have already received this award, I apologize for the duplication. I do hope you will accept this award even if you decide not to pass it on to others.
These are my eleven questions for those who accept the award. I look forward to reading your answers.
  1. Who is your favorite author?
  2. Why did you start blogging?
  3. Beach or mountains for vacation?
  4. What is your favorite indulgence?
  5. If you had an unlimited amount of money, what would you do with it?
  6. If you could live any place in the world, where would it be?
  7. What is your favorite form of exercise?
  8. What is the most unusual job you’ve ever had?
  9. What was your first job?
  10. Do you believe in ghosts?
  11. Where do you get your news: newspapers, TV, computer?

I am sincerely thankful to Annie for selecting our blog to receive this award. Her creativity definitely inspires me.

Finally, what would a cat blog be without a photo of a cat? This photo is Mauricio wearing the virtual hat Sammy gave him for his birthday. The cupcake represents Mau’s bakery skills and his Cat Scout Bake Shop.

WINNER, WINNER CHICKEN DINNER

Well, actually there was no chicken nor any dinner for that matter. MOUSES! But we did get this terrific badge which we will display with pride on our sidebar.

teaser winner badge

If you don’t know what this is, you need to visit Sammy at onespoiledcat next Tuesday. Every week he presents a mystery photo to identify by giving it’s exact location. A variety of badges can be won for first commenter, first right guesser, correct guesser but not first and the ever popular loser’s badge (the Greenie). We are proud owners of a substantial stack of Greenies.

We actually were first and correct once before back in 2014.

To celebrate this week’s win, we invited Sammy’s Teaser cheerleader, kitten SuzieQ, to stop by and recite a poem we wrote. Take it away Suzie.

Teaser Winner
We are the winners, yes indeed.
We never thought we would succeed.
Greenies seemed to be our fate
Whether guessing early or guessing late.
But finally we got the answer right
Without Googling into the night.
And not only right but first and only!
We guarantee this is not baloney.
We received this badge, and it’s a doozy,
Giving us bragging rights ’til next Tuesday.
So thank you Sammy for this fun game.

We’re no longer hanging our heads in shame!

Thank you Sammy and SuzieQ. We hope it doesn’t take another two years for us once again to be first and correct.

CREATIVE BLOGGER AWARD

We recently received this very nice award, which was new to us, from our pal, Purrince Siddhartha Henry. If you don’t know him, he’s the new kitty at what was Nylablue’s (our honorary sisfur) Purrfect Pad. You can meet Dharth by clicking here.

creative

As with most awards, we have a few rules to follow.

  1. Thank the one who gave you the award: Siddhartha you were so kind to pass this award to us. Thanks! It makes us so happy that you think we (and Mom) are creative.
  2. Link to the blog of the one who gave the award to you: We did that above.
  3. Now we must tell you five things about ourselves. This is a tough one. Which of us get to be the ones to share? What could you possibly not know about us or our mom? After excavating our brains for memories of funny or interesting things about ourselves, we ended up letting Mom list things about herself.
  • Mom and Dad met right after college when he was a Yellow Cab driver and she worked for Budget Rent-A-Car at the Santa Barbara, CA, Airport.
  • If you were to stand on the sidewalk facing the house in which Mom grew up in Campbell, CA, and then look to the right you would be looking straight at the front of eBay’s headquarters, just two blocks away. It is where a huge private estate was located when she was growing up.
  • Mom started riding motorcycles with her dad when she was three years old. Her dad would put a pillow on the gas tank for her to sit on and then strap her to him with a belt.
  • Mom has four tattoos: Pooh, Tigger, a ladybug (for good luck) and our blog logo.
  • Mom’s first pet of her very own was a five-pound cockapoo named Smack who she got when she was a sophomore in College.

Now we need to nominate 15 to 20 blogs to receive this award. This is the hardest part, but here are our nominees with links to their blogs:

Animal Shelter Volunteer Life  Beaded Tail  Clooney’s Num-Num Fund  Cat in the Fridge  Critters in the Cottage  Friends Furever  Island Cats  Kitty Cat Chronicles  Kjelle Bus aka Charlie Rascal  McGuffy’s Reader  Playful Kitty  Random Felines  Spitty Speaks  Stunning Keisha ♥ A Tonk’s Tail

FRIENDSHIP FRIDAY: VERY INSPIRING BLOGGER AWARD

Last Friday we were selected by Magellan and Ramona from Create with Joy as their Friend of the Week and the first to receive the Very Inspiring Blogger Award from them. They will continue to present this award to their featured Friend of the Week for several weeks to come. (To see our original post with regard to receiving this award, click here.)

Very Inspiring Blogger Award

We are inspired in some way by every blog we read. If not, we wouldn’t be reading them.

Today we are passing the award along to many of those blogs. We have selected blogs that we feel provide excellent educational and inspirational messages, those that devote much of their time to fostering and/or adopting and promoting adoption of special needs kitties and those that are huge advocates for adoption of rescue kitties and feature them often on their blogs! We know we will leave out many blogs fitting these criteria for which we apologize.

Some of those named may have this award or do not accept awards. If so, please forgive us for any inconvenience we may cause you.  Here are the bloggers we have selected for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award.

Those receiving this award are encouraged to:

  • Thank the person who nominated them and link to their blog.
  • Display the award logo.
  • Nominate 15 bloggers who inspire you and share their links with your readers.
  • Leave a comment on their blogs so they know that they’ve been nominated.
  • Mention three things that have inspired you during the past week.

We have done the first four of these things but have not mentioned the three things that have inspired us.

Inspiring

Melba

1. Brian’s Home post regarding Melba, a cat in desperate need of fostering or adoption prior to Monday, the 30th, when she is scheduled to be euthanized. Please click here to read her story. And please, please help if you can if only by sharing her story.

2. Our dad’s willingness to become more involved with Barn Cat Buddies by photographing kitties at Petco waiting for adoption. He also cleans cages, plays with and brushes the kitties.

3. Our vet, Dr. Kathy Neel, who treats us like family and not only agrees to make housecalls for our annual exams and vaccinations but also loves coming to our house to take care of us.

Friendship FridayWith this post we are participating in Create With Joy’s Friendship Friday Blog Hop. We also want to thank every blogger who has become our and Mom’s friend. The pet blogger community consists of the most generous, compassionate and caring individuals we have ever met. Kudos and love to all of you.

CATS IN TUTUS & A SURPRISE HONOR

honor

Like cats in tutus and tiaras, we are twirling with excitement. Okay, so Lily Olivia may not look too excited (and she’s only wearing a virtual tutu and tiara), but we are filled with delight and delirious with happiness!

Friendship FridayWe found out on Thursday afternoon that we are the Friend of the Week and have received the Very Inspiring Blogger Award from the Create with Joy blog. (Click on the badge to view the post.)

Create with Joy is one of the most popular and well-read blogs with a Google page rank of four! In our opinion, being featured there is like winning the lottery. And this honor came out of the blue (so to speak).

To celebrate receiving the Inspiring Blogger Award herself, Ramona from Create with Joy decided, over the course of the next several weeks, to select Friends of The Week in a range of categories and pass on the award to them!

Very Inspiring Blogger Award

FNN Roving Correspondent

Ramona asked one of her two adorable cats, Magellan (the newly appointed Roving Correspondent for the Feline News Network), to provide her with a list of some of his favorite Cat Blogs to receive the award and be the Friend of the Week. Mom (yeah, we are calling her that again) and The Cat on My Head were selected from the ranks to be Create with Joy’s first Inspiring Blogger. Did we say we feel honored as well as grateful?

Those receiving this award are encouraged to:

  • Thank the person who nominated them and link to their blog. (The link is above.) Thank you Ramona and Magellan from the bottom of our furry little hearts. We are truly honored to accept this award from you.
  • Display the award logo. See above.
  • Nominate 15 bloggers who inspire you and share their links with your readers. We will do this in another post sometime next week.
  • Leave a comment on their blogs so they know that they’ve been nominated. Ditto.
  • Mention three things that have inspired you during the past week. We will do this as well when we pass along the award.

If you do not know Magellan or his fursib, Tsunami, or d0 not follow Create with Joy, we suggest you check out their site. You are sure to find something you like from the varied and inspiring content.

Purrs, paw-pats and kisses to Magellan and Tsunami, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
