Birthday

🎂 HAPPY NINETEENTH BIRTHDAY ANGELS 🌈

Together Again

On July 17, three years ago, our sweet Mau left us. On Friday, the 15th, his sisfur, Misty May, joined him at 2:45 p.m. He missed his 16th birthday by two months. Misty May missed her 19th by two days.

Misty May started going down hill the day after her Tuesday vet visit. By Thursday evening, it was evident that she would not make it until today. I put her on my pillow at bedtime, which was her place, and she slept there until she moved in between Dad Tom and me, which had always been Mau’s spot. Friday morning she was unable to stand. I held her all day both before and after she passed. She was in my arms when she flew away.

So today, Dad Tom and I wish these two special angels a happy birthday. I hope you will enjoy these photos of them as kittens. They were almost eight when I started this blog, and you can find dozens of photos of them here as adults.

They were both truly loved and will be missed and remembered always.

Sunday Selfies: Week #474

Please join our angels, Mau and Misty May, on this hop and share your selfie with the eight remaining Kitties Blue and all your other friends.

Thank you for stopping by today to say, “good-bye,” to our two beautiful angels. Also, thanks for following, commenting and supporting us. We truly appreciate your friendship.

I will be taking the day off tomorrow, but Periwinkle and Stinky will be here on Tuesday for Meow Like a Pirate Day.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CC

A Celebration for Periwinkle

Stinky is ready when Periwinkle comes tumbling from the teleportation tunnel right into his waiting paws. Once she rights herself, her mouth falls open as she sees the room is filled with balloons. Being a smart cookie, Periwinkle asks, “Are these for me for my birthday?” Stinky blushes, says “yes,” and then apologizes for himself and Sawyer missing her and Noelle’s birthdays on September 1. Periwinkle throws her arms around his neck and gives him a big hug and whisker kiss. “Stinky, this is so much better than an online or snail mail card.”

Still embarrassed, Stinky tells her that he can tell time but hasn’t quite figured out the calendar and relies on his mom to remind him of important dates, and he is pretty certain Periwinkle knows that her track record has been pitiful lately.

“Stinky, please stop apologizing, it’s okay. Now, let’s get this party started. I assume there is a party.”

“Yes, of course, but you need to put on your tiara first,” Stinky replies.

“Periwinkle, the main reason for our celebration today is your birthday. But we also have something else to celebrate.”

“Oh, goodie, two things to celebrate. What is it, Stinky?”

200 Adventures

“This is our 200th adventure. That is nearly four years of adventuring,” Stinky tells Periwinkle.

“Wow, that is a really big deal. I sure have had a lot of fun on all those adventures and hope we can have at least 200 more!”

“Me too, Periwinkle!”

“So, what are we doing to celebrate?” asks Periwinkle.

In reply, Stinky takes Periwinkle’s paw and leads her outside. Once again, she is amazed by what is awaiting her, “Stinky, this is beautiful,” Periwinkle exclaims. “Did you do all this for me?”

Lunch in the Garden

“Well, I did have some help from my mom.”

Periwinkle throws her paws around Stinky’s neck and gives him a hug. “You are so romantic, Stinky!”

Periwinkle Stinky birthday 200 adventures: Two cartoon tabby cats sitting at a fancy table in a field surrounds by candles and Periwinkle plants.

“I love all the Periwinkle plants,” says Periwinkle.

“Soon, you’ll be able to run through an entire field of them. Mom and Dad are having a huge portion of our side yard planted with periwinkles.”

“Is that just for me, Stinky?”

“I am not sure about that. It may be just one of those happy coincidences,” Stinky tells her. He then asks Periwinkle if she is ready for lunch? She tells him, “yes,” and asks what they are having. Without telling her, Stinky motions to his mom to bring out their plates: a shrimp cocktail to share as well as steak and lobster tails.

The two tabbies immediately dig into their meals and do not speak until they have eaten every morsel and licked their plates clean.

“Stinky, that was so delicious. I am absolutely stuffed.”

“Me too, but I do hope you have saved room for cake. Cooper Murphy has baked two beautiful ones for us.”

“Two cakes, why two?” asks Periwinkle.

“One for your birthday and one in celebration of our 200 adventures.”

Nap Time

“Stinky, I don’t think I could eat another bite right now. What would you think about having a little nap first?” Stinky tells Periwinkle that he thinks a nap is a wonderful idea. The two tabbies return to the house and curl up in the bed Noelle gifted Sawyer for Christmas 2022.

Birthday Cards

When Periwinkle and Stinky wake up they return to their table outside where Stinky has some cards for Periwinkle. He tells her that she has to click on each one to see it. He also tells her that the first one is just for fun!

“Stinky, those were so much fun. We need to make more for other occasions.” Stinky agrees with her and promises they will.

Cakes

Finally it is time for cakes, and Cooper Murphy delivers the ones he has baked.

Periwinkle claps her paws together when she sees the cakes and then gives Cooper Murphy a huge hug. “Thank you, Cooper, these are so beautiful. You have become a masterful baker.”

Cooper thanks Periwinkle for the compliments and cuts both tabbies huge slices from each cake. He asks if it is okay for him to take slices to all the Kitties Blue. Periwinkle and Stinky tell him to please do so.

After finishing their cake and helping each other lick the frosting from their faces, Periwinkle asks to visit with all the Kitties Blue and Stinky’s parents. Periwinkle also takes a few minutes to thank Stinky’s mom and Cooper Murphy for the parts they played in making today so wonderful.

Saying Good-Bye

Finally it is time for Periwinkle to depart. She tells Stinky, “Thank you for such a beautiful and thoughtful celebration. I loved every moment of it. I am so happy you are my boyfriend.” She then adds, “Would it be okay for me to take my tiara home as well as some cake for my mom, Noelle and Reesie?” Stinky hands her a box. “Cooper Murphy has already wrapped up some of both cakes for you to take home, and, of course, you may keep your tiara.”

Periwinkle and Stinky spend several more minutes whisker kissing, paw hugging and whispering, “I love you,” to each other. Then with tears in her eyes, Periwinkle enters the teleportation tunnel, blows Stinky a final kiss and is gone in a whoosh.

As he always does, Stinky heads to the catio for a nap and dreams of Periwinkle.

The End

Periwinkle and Stinky will be hopping along with Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday. If you would like to join them, click on the badge below.

🎂ANOTHER BELATED BIRTHDAY🎁

Lisbeth & Astrid Turn Twelve

I’ve messed up again when it comes to birthdays. Yesterday, Astrid and Lisbeth turned 12. I have to thank the vet for sending them birthday greetings, or I have no idea when I would have realized my mistake. Sometimes, I really am a bad mom.

For those of you who don’t know, Astrid and Lisbeth are not related, but they were raised together as kittens by Lisbeth’s mom, Tuxie. Astrid and her brother, Bobby, were discovered on a roof as babies with no mother cat to be found. They were placed in foster care with Tuxie and her litter of kittens. Astrid and Lisbeth were great friends and inseparable until they decided they would each rather be loners. They were both, however, very close with big brother, Mauricio.

I have a birthday card for them.

Astrid Lisbeth 12th birthday: Birthday card with Portraits of a tuxedo cat and a tortoise shell cat with flower garlands on their heads.

And Cooper Murphy did bake a cake.

Astrid Lisbeth 12th birthday: Birthday cake decorated in lavender and auger colors with roses as decorations.

We have a few noms and drinks and hope you will join in wishing the girls a very happy birthday.

Because of my boo-boo, I will be posting this week’s Friendly Fill-Ins with my Caturday Art tomorrow.

The girls, however, will be joining the Feline Friday blog hop hosted by messy mimi’s meanderings. If you’d like to do the same, click on the badge below.

Thanks for joining us today.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY BOY

Celebration Time

Today our baby boy, Sawyer, turns six years old. Granted, he is not the youngest male among the Kitties Blue, but I will always see him as our baby boy. I feel so blessed and grateful that he is here to celebrate it with us.

It was uncertain if he would survive a few of his early seizures. Trips to the emergency vet in the middle of the night when seizures wouldn’t stop, and the day he had to be intubated and placed in a coma due to an unending seizure, made a future for him seem precarious at best. Though he still has his seizures, thankfully they are somewhat controlled by his meds.

He even missed his fourth birthday when he left on his three-and-a half-week unauthorized tour of the neighborhood in 2021. We never expected to see him again, so any birthday we get to celebrate with Sawyer is a bonus.

I made him a card from the entire family.

And Cooper Murphy baked him a cake.

It wouldn’t be a party without noms: shrimpies, tuna, treaties, fresh nip, nip ice cream and crispy bacon. Enjoy!

Please stay and celebrate for as long as you like. Thank you from Dad Tom, me, and all the Kitties Blue, but especially Sawyer, for coming by today to celebrate.

If you weren’t following us when Sawyer became a member of the Kitties Blue crew, you can check out the original post at, “Sawyer’s First Gotcha Day.”

Caturday Art

I am counting Sawyer’s birthday card as art, so he is joining the Caturday Art blog hop hosted by Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty. You can do the same by clicking on her badge.

I did not make a puzzle for you today. I’ll see if I can do one tomorrow.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Speaking of tomorrow, we will be right here waiting for you to take part in our Sunday Selfies blog hop. We know you want to show the world just how super cute you are, and this is the place to do it. If your peeps will be busy celebrating the upcoming holiday and cannot get you here tomorrow, the hop is open through Thursday. So no excuses allowed!

See you soon.

C.J.’s HIGH BEAM ART

Caturday Art

Dilute tortoise shell cat with laser (high beam) eyes in a colorful piece of artwork surrounded by a wooden frame.

Calista Jo is back today for Caturday Art. The photo was taken on her birthday right after I gave her the blue octopus toy. She didn’t want it then nor when I gave it to her later on the bed. I had to use the flash to take her photo, so she ended up having high beam eyes.

I did use Painnt again for the art. The effect is Amateur Crochet. I increased the saturation by about 50 percent, as the colors looked a little muddy. I used piZap to add the Pop filter at 50 percent. The fame is from the favpng app.

And here’s the link to C.J.’s puzzle.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

This week has not flown by like it usually does, as we have been inundated with rain for the past several days. The days have seemed unending. Anyhoo, we’ve finally made it to the day prior to selfie day. So, that means it is time for Kitties Blue and I to remind you to snap your selfie and join our hop tomorrow. I think our sweet Lisbeth may be your host.

Have a terrific Caturday. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

KITTIES BLUE CELEBRATE C. J. & NATIONAL SELFIE DAY

Belated Birthday Wishes

So, my mom is an idiot. Did you know that yesterday was my birthday? My mom had to visit the Cat Blogosphere to find out. As it  was Periwinkle’s turn to plan her and Stinky’s adventure, our mom didn’t even post anything yesterday. I am more than a little hurt. And now she says I have to share my birthday post with National Selfie Day, and I’m not even on the badge for that. Pffft! You’d think she’d treat me better. After all, I sleep smushed up against her as close as I get every single night!

Here’s the cheesy card she made me to make up for the slight.

Pink and purple birthday card with photo of red haired woman and tiny dilute tortoise shell kitten.

Hey, that’s me and Mom right after I was adopted. I was so tiny, I made Astrid (who is the next to smallest Kitties Blue) look like a giant. Mom recently reshared the post with that photo as part of her Looking Back series. If you missed it, here’s the link, “Rolling, Sliding and Somersaulting.”

I also got one of the toys from the most recent Cat Lady Box. If you follow us regularly, you know that Kizmet claims those about 90 percent of the time. But, on occasion, Mom is able to hide them away before she sees them.

National Selfie Today

Badge for National Selfie Day featuring six cats.

As I am one of the three Kitties Blue missing from this beautiful badge created by Ann from Zoolatry, Mom said I should have a selfie today with my new toy. As you know, none of us here are big fans of taking selfies, but I thought I better oblige her. It did, however take me more than 25 tries to get something she agreed to use. Oh yeah, that blue octopus is my new toy. I have absolutely no interest in playing with it.

If you are participating in National Selfies Day but do not regularly join our Sunday Selfies blog hop, we hope you will link to it with your today’s selfie. The hop always remains open through Thursday. Here’s the link to this past Sunday’s hop, “Father’s Day 2023 Selfies.”

Wordless Wednesday/Looking Back

As I got extra wordy for Wordless Wednesday, Mom decided not to share a Looking Back post this week.

But, we are still going to join the Wordless Wednesday blog hop at Comedy Plus. You can join be there by clicking on the WW badge.

Thanks for joining us today.

Purrs & Paws pats, Calista Jo

p.s. I am now 11 years old. I better get treated lots better on my Gotcha Day in October!
p.p.s. Mom’s not as forgetful and mean as I make her out to be.

A SPECIAL BIRTHDAY SPARK

Spark for Dad Tom

Birthday card for the Kitties Blue dad, Tom, with his photo cut out as a star and a quote from Madeleine L'Engle that says, "The great thing about getting older is that you don't lose all the other ages you've been."

I have to agree with Kitties Blue, Dad Tom is a great cat dad. He’d have to be to put up with the shenanigans of the current crew as well as all those that came before. He’s a total pushover. As I write this, he just gave up his chair to Misty May and Kizmet. And he rarely has enough room for himself in bed at night. He’s the chief pooper scooper as well as meal and treat distributer. Kitties Blue and I are so fortunate to have him in our lives.

I selected a Spark I think is totally appropriate for today’s birthday celebration. Both Dad Tom and I have had great lives with many wonderful adventures and memories. But we are happy to be in our 70s, except for all the aches and pains of old age. When asked how he is, Dad Tom’s usual reply is, “I’m still looking down on the daisies.”

The author of today’s Spark, Madeleine L’Engle (1918 – 2007), was an American writer of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and young adult fiction. She’s best known for A Wrinkle in Time and its sequels.

Sparks is the creation of Annie from McGuffy’s Reader. Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend. Annie stated when she began Sparks, “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world.”

The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky

Those two fun-loving tabbies, Periwinkle & Stinky, will be setting off on a new adventure tomorrow. It is Periwinkle’s week to plan what they’ll be doing, so you’ll need to join them over at Friends Furever. They’ll be waiting for you.

NATIONAL FERAL CAT DAY SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #426

National Feral Cat Day badge with portraits of four cats.

As promised in yesterday’s post, Sawyer is here to host our hop on National Feral Cat Day. And I didn’t even have to bribe him to take this selfie! I will reward him, however, for being so cooperative.

National Feral Cat Day: Portrait of a grey tabby cat with a small cat and broom for Halloween in the lower right corner.

Sawyer thought, with Halloween just around the corner, I should add something representative of the season to his selfie. Of course, I was happy to oblige him.

Now, Sawyer and I hope you will oblige us by posting a selfie and joining our blog hop. It’s such a good way to stay in touch with your current friends as well as make some new friends. As a reminder, you don’t have to post today to join, and the hop remains open through Thursday.

I know we mention it every week, but we wouldn’t be here without your support, following, comments and friendship. Thank you! Kitties Blue and I love being part of the pet blogging community.

Birthday Wishes

Today is the birthday of a very special person and amazing friend, Mom Sharon, from Friends Furever. Please join us in wishing her a happy birthday and sending best wishes for a purrfect day. We are certain her kitties, Raz, Noelle (aka Periwinkle) and Reesie, will be spoiling her with lots of love and cuddles.

Kitties Blue and I will be back tomorrow with a review of a great, holiday novel, How Snowball Stole Christmas. I will be giving away my copy of the book. So, please join us then and leave a comment for the opportunity to win the book.

Have a terrific easy Sunday.

PICTURE PURRFECT KITTEN

Sunday Selfies: Week #423

picture purrfect kitten: tabby kitten in a frame with pink flowers and purple ribbon.

Audrey is more social than Raleigh and is not camera shy (as yet), so she happily snapped a selfie to share with you. At 17 weeks old, she has lost that totally kitten face. They grow up way too quickly.

All the Kitties Blue hope you weren’t camera shy this week and snapped a selfie to share with them as well as your other pals. All anipals are welcome regardless of species. It’s always fun to make new friends, so we hope you’ll invite your friends to join in the fun.

A Special Birthday

KittiesBlue and I are sending birthday best wishes out to a dear and treasured friend. Please join us in wishing Teddy and Angel Sammy’s mom, Pam, a special birthday filled with love and happiness.

You can wish her a happy birthday at Two Spoiled Cats!

Comment-a-thon Results

If you missed yesterday’s post, I announced the winner of a $40 donation from Angel Mau and Misty May’s birthday. Lone Star Cats will have the opportunity to select a pet rescue, shelter or charity to receive the donation. Once I find out where the money will be going, I’ll announce it here.

Thank you for being here today and for following, supporting and befriending us. Wishing you all an easy and happy Sunday.

18TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION & COMMENT-A-THON

Caturday Birthday Art

Today Misty May and Angel Mau celebrate their 18th birthday. My wish for today would be that Mau was still with us to celebrate. He was a wonderful cat with a warm and generous heart. I think about and miss him everyday.

birthday celebration comment-a-thon with kitten and adult photos of two tuxie cats

Their birthday card includes two of the very earliest photos taken shortly after we adopted Misty may and Mau in November of 2004. As youngsters they were bonded but grew apart as years passed. Mauricio was the nurturer, but he lavished his attention on others of the Kitties Blue and not his sister.

Though Misty May has been deaf for a few years and suffers from thyroid disease, she just keeps going like that Energizer bunny. She prefers to spend her days on the front porch and her nights on my pillow. She occasionally decides to spend an afternoon on one of our neighbor’s porches but is always home in plenty of time for meals.

I recently learned that male cats have shorter lifespans (up to two to three years less) than female cats, so that may be the reason Misty May is still with us and Mau isn’t. He received his angel wings on July 17, 2020.

Party Time

Cooper Murphy created an exceptionally cute cake. And we have some raspberry and nip-garnished, pink champagne to accompany it. Please help yourselves.

birthday celebration comment-a-thon: glasses of pink champagne with mint and raspberries

Misty May and Angel Mau will be participating in Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s Caturday Art blog hop. You can do the same by clicking on her badge.

Comment-a-thon

In honor of Misty May and Angel Mau, Kitties Blue and I are having a comment-a-thon. I will donate $1 for every comment (one per person, please) made on this post through midnight Thursday. One commenter, selected through Random.org, will have the opportunity to select the pet rescue or charity to receive the donation. So please feel free to invite all your friends to join the party and comment.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

It is time again for selfies. And miracle of miracles, I know who your host will be. And she’s already snapped her photo. But that’s as much of a hint as you’ll get. You will need to join us again tomorrow to find out which of the girls it is.

Thanks for joining us for today’s celebration. Have a purrfect day.
