Awards

AN ABUNDANCE OF AWARDS

We would like to thank Sophie and Mom Beverly from moggiespurrs for sharing all of these great awards with us. Her generosity is unsurpassed and greatly appreciated.

The Award for Love and Kindnessaward-loveandkindness

The Rules:
1. Share an act of kindness another blogger has done for you. Brian and Dad Terry (Brian’s Home) were always willing to help me when I first started blogging and had questions about WordPress. I am passing this award on to them, however, for all they do to help kitties find homes through the blog, Forever Home Wanted.
2. Thank the person who nominated you for the award, and link back to their blog.
3. Nominate those bloggers whom you feel practice Kindness and Love — you choose how many! All of my nominees are at the bottom of this post.

Wonderful Team Member Readership Award

The creator of this award said: “As bloggers, we are also readers.
That is a part of blogging as listening is a part of speaking.”

The Rules:
1. Show appreciation of the blogger who nominated you, and link back to them in your post.
2. Add the award logo to your blog.
3. Share 7 things about yourself. I usually share things about the kitties, but I have decided to share some things about myself for a change.

  1. The only time I had a nickname prior to getting married was in high school. I was called Allison after the character played my Mia Farrow on the TV drama Peyton Pace.
  2. My favorite word is serendipity.
  3. The one thing that makes me very angry is stupidity.
  4. I was Editor-in-Chief of my high school yearbook.
  5. Tom and I started riding a tandem bike in 2000.
  6. I finally discovered “my passion” at age 63 when I started this blog.
  7. I put myself through college working as a movie theater cashier.

OUR BLOGOVERSARY AND A GIVEWAY

Welcome to Kitties Blue

2nd Blogoversary

When Kitties Blue and I began this blog two years ago we had no idea what we were doing. We received some basic instructions on how to use WordPress by our web-site designer and then were set loose to make our mark in the blogosphere. For our first 36 posts, our commenters consisted of one to a handful of friends. With our 37th post, “Scary Cat” on Halloween Wordless Wednesday 2012 we received three comments from individuals we didn’t know. It wasn’t until November 27, 2012, that we received comments from two individuals who still comment occasionally.

It was just last month when our legitimate comments surpassed our spam comments in number received. As of Sunday evening, we had received 10,153 valid comments. And if you were with us yesterday, you know that today marks our 401st post.

One goal I have for the blog which we have yet to achieve—receiving 50 comments on a post. Maybe today will be our lucky day.

blogoversaryWe were going to hang some streamers to celebrate, but Giulietta had other things in mind and refused to let go of them. With that in mind, we will just have to proceed to a special award for all our followers and our giveaway.

Without those of you who have befriended us during the last two years we either would have given up this project or been foundering  untethered somewhere in space. It is with our sincere and heartfelt appreciation that we made a little something for all of you. It is an award, but it comes with NO rules. We would be honored if you would display it on your blog and link to us, but that is up to each of you. We want to thank Nellie  (Cat from Hell The Thoughts and Mewsings of Nellie in the City) for designing this cool badge that we used to create the award.

And now for the fun part—our giveaway. We have two items and you only need to leave a comment prior to Thursday morning (July 24) at 8 a.m. EDT to be in the drawing. The first is for an autographed copy of the book, Sal Everybody’s Pal, which we reviewed recently. If you click on the book name, you can read the review and see some of the exquisite illustrations from the book. This giveaway is open to all readers.

Drinkwell-Original-Pet-Fountain blogoversaryThe second item we will be giving away is this new Drinkwell Fountain. This giveaway is open to U.S. residents only.

Winners will be determined by using Random.org.

grumpy-cat-catnip blogoversary

free_lemonade blogoversarySo it seems we we should finally get this party started. Today we are serving catnip cupcakes and lemonade. Please help yourselves and enjoy.

And once again, thank you so much for following us. We hope you will continue to do so in the future.

With purrs and paw-pats from Kitties Blue and hugs from me, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Janet

THANKFUL THURSDAY: SHINE ON AWARD

We recently were nominated for the Shine On Award by Astrid’s boyfriend Sampson and his fursibs from the Kitty Cat Chronicles. Thank you so much. We have always admired this award and are tickled that you passed it on to us.

The award does come with a few rules:
1. Visit and thank the blogger who nominated you.
2. Acknowledge that blogger on your blog and link back.
3. Share 7 random facts about yourself.
4. Nominate up to 15 bloggers for the Shine On award, provide a link to their blog in your post, and notify them on their blog.

So we have taken care of the first two on the list. Now for the seven random facts (which we are turning into eight for obvious reasons).

Lily Olivia: Leo (Critters in the Cottage) and I keep trying to get together for a date, but our humans stay so busy they can’t seem to help us make it happen.

Mauricio: I am in love with my girlfriend Allie (Friends Furever), but she says that we haven’t been together long enough for me to say it.

Misty May: I won’t come in the house for breakfast or dinner until I see one of the humans at the door with a filled food bowl in hand.

Giulietta: If I am shut out of a room I want in, I will scratch the door continuously until it is opened.

Fiona: Sometimes I get to go out in the yard with Mom when she works in the garden, so I often think it is okay to go out on my own and sneak out if I can. I always come right back when I am called ’cause I know what I am doing is naughty and not allowed.

Astrid: I chased Lisbeth a couple nights ago. She took off and ran right through our cat drinking fountain throwing water all over the kitchen and knocking the top off the fountain. Fun times!

Lisbeth: My very favorite thing to do is eat the fresh flowers we always have in the kitchen.

Calista Jo: I have two sisters, Ellie and DeeDee, who are “failed” fosters ’cause they needed to be adopted as a bonded pair. It never happened. I can attest that they have one of the best moms ever. You can read about them here.

Blogs we are nominating for this award:

Critters in the Cottage (link above)  on a more personal note   Lone Star Cats  Sushi’s Diary  Random Felines  Bailey Boat Cat  Colehaus Cats  Fur Everywhere  Clooney’s Num Num Fund

This award has been around before and we know it is making the rounds again, so we are going to stop here with nominations. We know so many of our other furiends we would normally nominate have received it recently. If you already have it, please forgive our duplication.

We’ll be back tomorrow with Calista Jo and “Doozy of a Snoozy.” And please don’t forget to join us for our 2nd Blogoversary this coming Monday, July 21.

Purrs and paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

ROCKIN’ & ROLLIN’ AT THE SOCK HOP

The gym was awash in girls with colorful poodle skirts and boys in leather jackets boppin’ to a fifties beat at the Cat Scouts Sock Hop Friday night. Most of the girls selected the traditional pink poodle skirts. But others, like Scout Dezi, were less traditional. She was a vision in all blue to match her eyes. And CatPhillips and Madi (Raz’s date) were ravishing in red.

Sampson & Astrid, Lisbeth & Charles, Allie and Mau

Sampson & Astrid, Lisbeth & Charles, Allie & Mau

I was so proud to have three of my kits in attendance: Scout Mau and his girlfriend, Scout Allie; Lisbeth and her friend, Scout Charles; and Astrid with her boyfriend, Scout Sampson. I think they all look so adorable.

sock hop bus

Though a lot of Scouts had some classic cars to transport themselves and their dates to the Hop, many decided to take the Party Bus so they’d have extra time to visit with each other. Astrid, Lisbeth, Mau and their dates were part of that group.

The big event of the night was the Dance Contest, and the Scouts really threw themselves into it with all four paws. I’m thinking that a Dancing Merit Badge is in order. Of course, Kitties Blue and their dates participated. They even got dressed in special outfits to show off their moves.

Allie & Mau show of their flexibility.

Allie & Mau showed off their flexibility during a Jitter Bug.

Charles & Lisbeth both being a little shy selected a a subdued Lindy for their dance.

Charles & Lisbeth decided to perform a less vigorous dance.

Sampson & Astrid kick up their heels to become one of the nights winners.

Sampson & Astrid kicked up their heels and won a trophy.

The Scouts voted for their favorites in the Dance Contest. Four couples tied for first place, including Astrid and Sampson. They earned one of the coveted trophies.

They practiced for many hours, and it really showed. I am so happy for them both.

Both Charles and Sampson are very thoughtful young men. Prior to the dance Charles sent Lisbeth a darling retro charm bracelet, which she was so excited to wear to the dance.

Astrid and Sampson anniversaryAnd Sampson sent Astrid this sweet anniversary card and lovely necklace. She says she is never taking it off. I am hoping Sampson doesn’t mind me sharing his heartfelt card as I have already put it on our sidebar along with their trophy.

What can I say…I’m a proud mom.

THANKFUL THURSDAY: A CATLESS VERSION

I know this is a cat blog, but the felines will not be featured in today’s Thankful Thursday post. I do know, however, if they understood what was happening, they would be standing on their hind legs giving their dad a big round of APAWS. I hope my readers will forgive me for going in a different direction today.

Tom Blue (L) receives “Frier” Award from USA Volleyball

Last night, Kitties Blue Dad, Tom, was recognized for more than a quarter century of devoted service to USA Volleyball and FIVB (Federation of International Volleyball) when he received  the prestigious Harold T. Friermood “Frier” Award, the top organizational award given by USAV, at the 69th Annual Dorothy C. Boyce Awards Banquet at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel.

In accepting the award, Kitties Blue Dad said, “I am overwhelmed – USA Volleyball’s been a big part of my life. I am sorry Janet wasn’t here tonight. She supported me through 25 years of gallivanting around the world for USA Volleyball and FIVB. She was significant in her work for USA Volleyball.”

Needless to say, I am super proud of him. I did know he was receiving the award, and I had been given the opportunity to fly to Phoenix to surprise him. However, I never would have been able to keep the secret if I had been “missing” for the day I was traveling. Kitties Blue Dad would have been worried out of his mind if he couldn’t reach me. And it seems I made the right decision as I am still suffering terribly from the scorpion sting I received at BlogPaws.

I will always be sad that I missed this big event, but no less thrilled for Tom. I hope my readers will join the kitties and me in congratulating him.

If you have any interest in reading the entire story about the award and presentation, you can do so by clicking this link: USA Volleyball Honors Tom Blue.

MONDAY MEOWSINGS: THE YOO-HOO! YOO-HOO! AWARD

Our furiend Nissy from Nerissa’s Life is celebrating receiving 100,000 page views on his blog. In honor of that accomplishment, he developed this new Yoo-Hoo! YOO-HOO! (one of his favorite sayings) Award.

We are so honored o be one of his recipients and delighted to accept the award. The rules for accepting the award are pretty simple.

1) Post the award on your blog and thank the blogger who gave it to you. Thank you Nissy for developing this new award and passing it on to us.

2) Visit at least three of the blogs that are receiving the award along with you and leave a
comment.
3) Tell us all three things you have to celebrate. You know, three things for which you are
thankful.

We are thankful that our sweet Astrid and the wonderpurr Sampson have found each other. We’re also thankful that Mauricio was in the very first group of Cat Scouts to be purrmoted to the rank of Cougar. Finally, we are so super thankful that Spring has finally arrived

4) Pass along the award to seven other bloggers and let them know you have done so. Here are our seven:

Friends Furever  Kitty Cat Chronicles   The Island Cats  Tom Cat Commentary by Tim   Critters in the Cottage  The Cat from Hell   TwinkleToe Tails

We know none of our recipients received this from Nissy, but we sure hope they haven’t already received it from another source.

Have a great week y’all.

Purrs and paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calists Jo

HAPPY PURRDAY WITH A GIFT FOR OUR READERS

F&G4th

Giulietta and Fiona want to share something with efurrybuddy visiting today, not just in celebration of their Purrday but in anticipation of Spring as well. As we had a combo of snow, sleet and freezing rain yesterday, we are so anxious for Spring to arrive.

polarvortex2We know that all of our furiends are just as sick and tired of Winter as we are, so for efurrybuddy visiting us today, we have this very special Badge/Award! It has no rules. Feel free to pass it on to anyone you like as we think just about efurryone on the planet deserves to have it. Just please ask your recipients to state that it originated right here at The Cat on My Head.

Please stop by and visit My Three Moggies today as well. Our furiends, Archie, Oscar, Henry and Mom Michelle are featuring us on their blog, Facebook, Twitter and at showmeCats as their Fur Friends of the Month.

A Rainbow of Birthday Party Balloons

THANKFUL THURSDAY: AND THE AWARDS GO TO…

Kitties Blue!

We are embarrassed by how many awards we have received and not reported about. We love each and efurrybuddy who thinks highly enough of us to pass on an award and are humbled by just how many of you there are. So without further apologies, here they are.

SunshinePicnicAward

We received this reason to have a pawty, The Sunshine Picnic Award, from our good friend Sammy at onespoiledcat. Since we have some sun today, we think it is the purrfect time to invite 10 special friends for a picnic and and suggest things they can bring with them. Sammy will be our Special Guest and only has to bring his furrabulous self.

The invitees are: The Florida Furkids, Allie (Mau’s girlfriend), Ellie, Raz and Cubby from Friends Furever. Please bring the warmth of Florida. Our sisfur, Nylablue (Nylablue and Sherri-Ellen’s Purrfect Pad): Please bring Twinklestar. We haven’t seen her in a while. Oh yeah, and some of that nommy candy made from the maple syrup in Canada. Our brofur, Bailey (Bailey Boat Cat): Please bring your turtles, as it might be one of the last times we get to see them. We promise not to make turtle soup. Spitty (Spitty Speaks) who we serve as faithful Viceroys of Treasure Island: Please bring some fresh Sourdough bread and Dungeness crabs. We know you already have this award, but we hope you will come anyway and bring these noms. Mom says she has the green papers to pay you back. Clooney and Neyteri (Clooney’s Num Num Fund): Please bring noms of your choice. We do like Temptations. And finally, Timmy, Toby, Einstein, Rumpy, Buddy-Budd, Miss Fitz and Mr. Buttons (Tomcat Commentary by Tim): Will you please bring Grilled Sticky Buns with Butter and some Hot Nip Chocolate like you brought to Campfire. That was one of the bestest desserts, according to Mau.

If any of you want to have a picnic (if you haven’t already) and pass along the award, you can invite any or all of us (Kitties Blue) as your special guest(s) and invite others to bring the picnic fixings.

The Lighthouse Award

The Lighthouse Award — A Blog That Brings Light To A Dark World. We don’t know if we do that or not but are so grateful to Beverly and Sophie at moggiepurrs for passing this along. It does have some rules and guidelines:

1. Display the Award logo on your blog.

2. Write a post and link back to the blogger who nominated you.

3. Inform your nominees of their nominations.

4. Share three ways that you like to help people.

a) Mom volunteers for a TNR/Rescue group, Barn Cat Buddies. We got her involved in this because Lisbeth, Astrid and Calista are all alums of this group; b) Mom and Mau pawticipate in Service Projects through Cat Scouts; c) Mom tries to pay it forward by helping new bloggers when they have questions or problems she has encountered and solved.

5. There is no limit to the number of people you can nominate. We nominate: Animal Shelter Volunteer Life, Brian’s Home and Cat in the Fridge  for their efforts in finding homes for kitties, Piranha Banana for being a therapy dog, Waffles from Glorgirly for being a therapy cat, Gracie from Goodness Gracie for all the hard work she does at Cat Scouts as Patrol Leader of the Wolverines.

sunshine-award-sunflower frum Musings By Marty

This bright and beautiful Sunshine Award came from our dear sisfur, Nylablue. We are supposed to pass this on to ten blogs that inspire us. Nylablue has already passed this on to several of those we would have selected, but we think these are some wonderpurr choices: Angel Prancer Pie, Manx Mnews, A Tonk’s Tail, Athena, Cat Goddess, Eric and Flynn’s Adventures, Cat Chat with Caren & Cody, CATachresis, Colehaus Cats, My Three Moggies and Cat from Hell.

The Field Of Flowers Award

We are excited and honored to be nominated for the Field of Flowers Award by The Kitty Corner and also from Living With Loulou. We usually have some Daffodils and Tulips blooming by now, but with the never ending Polar Vortex, we don’t think that will be happening any time soon, so this colorful award is a delight to have. The rules for this award are as follows:

1.   Thank the blogger who nominated you.

2.   Display the award on your blog.

3.   Nominate 7 other blogs and let everyone know why you are presenting them with the award. The reason we are nominating these blogs is because they make us happy and deserve bouquets.

4.   Tell the 7 nominees of their nomination.

We are happy to be nominating and sending flowers to: Friends Furever, Critters in the Cottage, The Kitty Cat Chronicles, Twinkletoe Tails, Furries of Whisppy, moggiepurrs and Tomcat Commentary by Tim.

We were super tickled to receive this Excellence Award from Nissy at Nerissa’s Life. After all, his is one of the most excellent blogs we know. Our nominees are Nylablue and Sherri-Ellen’s Purrfect PadonespoiledcatFriends Furever, Savannah’s Paw Tracks, Katnip Lounge, Bailey Boat Cat, Spitty Speaks and Colehaus Cats.

And finally, just today we received two awards. The first, the Most Influential Blogger award, is from our friend Austin Towers from CATachresis. He said that somewhere along the way, the rules for this award had been lost. That suits us just fine, as we are pretty sure you have quit reading by now. There are some very influential bloggers out there to which we are passing along this award: Sparkle he Designer Cat; Chronicles of Zee and Zoey; Brian’s Home; GlorgirlySometime’s Cats Herd You, Katie Isabella and Stunning Keisha.

And from our friend Timmy (link above), we received this award. We do already have it but are most appreciative of his having thought us worthy.

We would promise you that we will never get this behind again, but we have absolutely no control over the human’s priorities, and we know that most of you have the same problem and so will understand.

If any of you don’t accept awards or if any of you already have the award we have given you, we apologize for the inconvenience. Just remember that we are recognizing you in this way ’cause we think you are pawtastic!

Purrs and Paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

p.s. Please check back with us on Sunday if you want more information on that mousey!

THANKFUL THURSDAY WITH MATCH.CAT UPDATE

We all are so super thankful today. We have dates for the Queen of Hearts Dance! We will not reveal ourselves dressed in our ball gowns or our dates in their tuxes*, but we do want to introduce y’all to our dates.

Image 5Misty May will be accompanied by Mau’s very handsome friend and fellow Cat Scout, Wally, from The Island Cats.

Image 8

The stately Leopold from Critters in the Cottage will accompany Lily Olivia to the Dance. Though he is still recovering from recent surgery, he has promised they can have a few dances and not spend all their time chaperoning the youngsters.

03-Texas

Lisbeth was so tickled to hear from her Howl-o-ween Ball date, Texas, from Texas, A Cat on New York Austin and find out that he wanted to accompany her to the Dance.

Image-002

Astrid will be on the arm of the green-eyed Tuxie, Sampson, from Kitty Cat Chronicles. Wait until you see them. They make the cutest couple!

Image 3-001

Our very young lady, Calista Jo, will be on the arm of Zorro from Swiss Cat Blog. Mom expects they will be having more of a play date than a dance date.

Image 9-001We bet most of you recognize this handsome man-cat and self-proclaimed King, Spitty from Spitty Speaks.  Our inseparable sisfurs, Giulietta and Fiona, are honored that he will be their date for the evening. They are still pinching themselves as he could have asked any of the many gorgeous girl/lady-cats who have dated him.

Image 2Of course, Mauricio is attending with his girlfriend, the most lovely and sweet Birman beauty, Allie, from Friends Furever.

Please don’t forget to check back on February 14 to see all the couples dressed and bejeweled for the Queen of Hearts Dance and then pop over to the Dance at Madi and Mom to see all the attendees.

* For several days, Mom wasn’t sure that she was happy that our plea for dates had turned out so well. She was up to her eyeballs in ball gowns and tuxedos trying to get us all dressed and our photos made to submit to the Dance committee. We girls sure had fun picking out dresses and even changing our minds a couple of times.

We also have an award for which we are thankful today.

We received this most pawsome award from our dear friends the Florida Furkids from Friends Furever and thank them from the bottom of our furry little hearts. Mau’s lovely girlfriend Allie is a Florida Furkid. We have linked to them above.

Under Mau’s Rules we must pass this award to his Worldwide Wildcats Troop Leader, Sammy at onespoiledcat, but he’s the one who gave it to Friends Furever. And we must pass it to Allie, but she gave it to us.

Next it should go to our honorary sisfur and brofur, Nylablue from Nylablue and Sherri-Ellen’s Purrfect Pad, and Bailey from Bailey Boat Cat. To or knowledge neither have this and so we are passing it on.

Additionally, the girls want to pass it on to all their Queen of Hearts Dance dates:

Wally – The Island Cats  Leopold – Critters in the Cottage  Texas – Texas, A Cat in New York Austin   Sampson – Kitty Cat Chronicles  Zorro – Swiss Cat Blog  Spitty – Spitty Speaks

We do have a couple of other things for which we are thankful, but we don’t want them to get lost in the shuffle, and we don’t want them to detract from what we are listing here, so we will save them until next week.

Purrs and paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

THANKFUL THURSDAY WITH GIULIETTA AND THE RED DOT

It is a known fact that I DO NOT play! I shun the Play Circuit track toy and the Cat’s Meow. Feather toys annoy and scare me. And forget the red dot. It moves too fast, and too many of my fursibs are charging through the house in a pack trying to catch it. And they don’t care who is in their path. At best, I will sit on the stairs and watch them.

But wait…what is this? It’s a red dot. It’s moving about the room all on its own. Mom is not controlling and whipping it around sending all the morons other cats into a frenzy. How could this be?

Here it comes…I'm ready!

Here it comes…I’m ready!

Hey, look everybody. I caught the dot.

Hey, look everybody. I caught the dot. (Please forgive the blurry quality of this photo. Mom’s photographic abilities are not always up to par.)

Hey, it’s a new toy, and it generates a slower and more erratic red dot. Mom is no where in sight and my competition seems to be holding back a little. Dot, do you want me to play? You do. Well, maybe just a little.

Wow, this is fun. Watch out dot, here I come!

Hey, dot, where did you go?

Hey, dot, where did you go?

This Independent Gyrating Red Dot Generator* (my name for it) makes a crazy whirring sound. When I hear it, I come running from wherever I am in the house. I think the other cats hold back a little (though they do play sometimes) when they hear this ’cause most of them don’t like strange noises. Yippee for me ’cause I don’t mind! I will even let Chris (our housekeeper) bring the vacuum right up to my toes without budging.

Unfortunately, Calista Jo decided she wanted to play during this particular session. As she is young and rambunctious, I deferred to her pouncing playfulness.

Calista watches the red dot draw near, and...

Calista watches the red dot draw near

…and sweep right across her paws.

…and sweep right across her paws.

Sorry, red dot! It was fun while it lasted and, I know we will be together again soon.

Purrs and Paw-pats, Giulietta

Blog of The Year 2013 AwardNow for a few words from Mom: I had promised a while back to award the 2013 Blog of the Year Award to anyone needing just one star in order to have all six. I heard from only one kitty, Oui Oui from Twinkletoe Tails. So…here is your final star, Oui Oui. And hint, hint…we only need one more star to have all six as well.

Several of you left comments on our attention-getting Easy Like Sunday: Full Stools post about where your mind went (and it wasn’t to furniture) when you read that headline. That’s pretty much what I expected and was surprised more of the commenters didn’t say that.

Our bag lady, Astrid, wanted me to tell you about her bag. It’s the only one she has selected for napping. I believe this is because it is the insulated grocery bag which has all the Barn Cat Buddies adoption binders, paperwork and thank you notes. I believe she thinks by sleeping in that bag she can prevent me from working on anything that has to do with other kitties.

Product Details* This is the toy I recently purchased for the kitties.

FroliCat BOLT Interactive Laser Pet Toy

A final few words from Giulietta: Mom was not being as generous as she wants you to believe. Though I am especially grateful, I know she purchased this because she is just plain L-A-Z-Y. One of her New Year’s Promises was to actively play with us everyday. Now she and Dad think they can turn this thing on for several 15-minute sessions per day, and we will all be purrfectly happy, and she will be keeping her promise.

Note to Mom: N-O-T!
