THE MANY COLORS OF TALI

Caturday Art

Bi-eyed, white and calico kitten in an art rendering in many colors along with a. colorful and sparkly frame.

To create today’s art I used Tali’s “Growing Up Selfie” from week #621 on July 12 of our Sunday Selfies blog hop. To turn it into this colorful image, I used the Watercolor Dream effect from Painnt. In that app, I added Multiply from Color and Lomo from Coloring. The frame, as usual is from favpng.

Here’s a puzzle for all our jigsaw fans, and it is not as hard as it appears.

A POEM OF PEACE & THANKFULS

Thankful Thursday

We are starting with thankfuls today for Angel Brian’s blog hop.

💐 Ten years ago today, Angel “Mau”ricio and Angel Allie (Friends Furever) were married at Cat Scouts. (Of course, they were not angels at the time.) Scoutmaster officiated and all their friends and fursibs attended.

⛈️ We have been having significant rainfall almost every day. Unfortunately, we remain in an “emergency-level” drought. Rain is approximately 7.8 inches below normal throughout the Commonwealth. This represents the second driest year on record. The driest was 2002. Our region has only received 57 percent of the rain that is normal for this time of year. Nonetheless, we are thankful for what we have been getting and pray it continues.

🥳 Periwinkle & Stinky are thankful for each of you who joined their adventure on Tuesday. They celebrated the anniversary of Angel Sawyer’s Gotcha Day and our blog’s 14th blogoversary.

😸 Kitties Blue and I are thankful for each of you who visit and comment on our posts, and especially for those who join our Sunday Selfies blog hop.

We will be hopping over to Angel Brian’s Home to participate in the Thankful Thursday blog hop. To join us there, click on the Thankful badge.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Thursday is also poetry day. The Two Spoiled Cats, Teddy and Angel Sammy, presented us with a bucolic inspiration photo this week. I have added Gibbs to my photo. He is that tiny white and black speck on the deck.  In the poem, his name is Charlie.

A cabin in the peaceful setting in the woods with a cat on the deck.

A Place of Peace

Our cabin in the woods
may look rundown and shabby,
but it brings peace to my soul.

No phone, internet, TV
or noisy, nosey neighbors … just
burbling creek sounds and Charlie.

While I daydream, read or nap,
Charlie chitters at the squirrels
then joins me for a snack.

We watch birds and butterflies,
fireflies, like magical fairies,
when the sun dips behind the trees.

The hours and days pass peacefully.
We enjoy each other and our refuge
until we reluctantly return to city living.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CCCL

The Arrival of Periwinkle & Another Kitty

Stinky waits by the teleportation tunnel for Periwinkle. She is always punctual, so he knows he won’t have to wait long. Moments later, the teleportation tunnel begins to vibrate. Periwinkle tumbles out with the familiar whoosh. Before Stinky can set her upright, Noelle tumbles out behind her. Periwinkle is only slightly surprised to see her.

“Stinky, I was fairly certain I knew what you had planned for today, but now that I see Noelle, I know I am right.”

“Well, you are a really smart kitty, so I am not surprised you figured it out. We will be celebrating the anniversary of Angel Sawyer’s second Gotcha Day … the day that our Mom rescued him from his three-and-a-half week walkabout.”

“I am happy that you continue to remember that all important day when Sawyer came home. It truly was a miracle and a relief that he was unharmed,” states Noelle.

“Mom said we could do something today we have not done in the past.”

“Oh, I love a surprise, what is it?” asks Periwinkle.

Giveaway

“We are going to give away two copies of Purrseverance. The winners will be able to read Sawyer’s story as well as that of many of their other friends.”

“That is a super idea. What will readers need to do to win?”

“Just leave a comment on this post before midnight ET on Friday. Mom will use Random.org to select the winners.”

“I know this is a special day for another reason as well,“ says Periwinkle.

“That’s right, it is the fourteenth blogoversary of The Cat on My Head.”

Reminiscing

“It really is a strange coincidence that your mom brought Sawyer home on the anniversary of the blog,” replies Periwinkle.

“I know, and that is not the only unusual occurrence. The person who found Sawyer and snapped his photo lived in the house where Mom and Dad adopted their first kitty, Skooter. A friend of Mom’s lived there in the 80s.”

“He was obviously meant to come home. It is just too bad it took so long,” says Periwinkle.

“I know. That was extra time we all would have loved to have had with him. Mom thinks about him constantly and how much joy and sorrow he brought to our family.”

“So, what are we going to do today besides the give away?”

“That is a very good question?” As Sawyer’s birthday was just three weeks ago, Mom did a post for him then,” replies Stinky.

“Yes, but that was a party. She hasn’t shared photos since she let everyone know he went to the Rainbow Bridge,” interjects Noelle.

“She’s right, Stinky. We should find some photos your mom didn’t share back then, and make a couple more scrapbook pages for him.”

Scrapbooking

“Sure, we are really good at that. I will gather the supplies.”

After Stinky gathers what they need, the three cats get busy selecting some photos. “Lots of these, I don’t remember,” declares Stinky.

“He was such a cutie pie,” says Noelle with a tear in her eye.

“Indeed he was,” agrees Stinky and adds, “We all used to giggle at him when he looked like he was hopping like a bunny. Being a Manx cat, his back legs were longer than his front. Mom says, when she pictures him in her mind, most times that is how she sees him. She thinks his tailless butt was super cute.”

“I’ll agree with that,” says Noelle with a giggle.

“Noelle, I think you should be the first to share the page you made,” says Periwinkle.

“Thanks, I would like to go first. I miss Sawyer so very much.”

“That is so sweet, Noelle,” exclaims Periwinkle as she gives Noelle a hug. “Stinky, is it okay if I go next?”

“Of course.”

“That’s beautiful, Periwinkle,” Stinky says. “I guess it is my turn.”

“I am feeling very sad, now,” states Noelle.

“Oh, I think we all are,” Periwinkle tells her.

“I think I can cheer us all up. Cooper Murphy has baked some cakes—one in memory of Angel Sawyer and one to celebrate the blog’s 14th anniversary. We have beverages to share as well,” Stinky tells Periwinkle and Noelle.

A Celebration Cake and a Remembrance Cake

“As usual, Cooper Murphy has outdone himself,” Noelle exclaims.

“Let’s get all my fursibs together to celebrate the blogoversary and remember Sawyer. He was special, and I know we all wish he was still with us,” suggests Periwinkle.

Stinky goes in search of all the Kitties Blue and they join he, Noelle and Periwinkle for some cake, beverages and a group photo.

Finally, it is time for Noelle and Periwinkle to head home. Noelle thanks Stinky for including her in the remembrance for Angel Sawyer and the blogoversary celebration. She then heads into the teleportation tunnel for the trip home so Periwinkle and Stinky can spend some time together.

The two tabbies spend several minutes paw hugging, whisker kissing, and saying, “I love you,” to each other.  Then Periwinkle enters the teleportation tunnel and with a wave and blown kiss is gone in a whoosh.

Stinky heads to the kitchen to clean up their craft supplies and then finds a nice sunpuddle for a nap and dreams of Periwinkle.

The End

The tabbies, all the Kitties Blue and Noelle will be joining the Happy Tuesday blog hop hosted by Sandee at Comedy Plus. If you would like to do the same, click on the Happy badge.

ROUND-UP REPORT & FILL-INS

Feline Friday

Well, ten days have passed since the roundup, and Kitties Blue have recovered. Actually it wasn’t so bad. They all were woman-handled, except Audrey who escaped to the living room. She was only scheduled for a pawticure, but she didn’t know that.

Everyone was fairly well-behaved except Cooper Murphy and Astrid … the largest and smallest of the gang.

Cooper did not want to be weighed or have his claws trimmed and fought like a wild cat.

ROUNDUP REPORT: Large ginger tabby cat with his tongue out and a red towel wrapped around his head.

I expected Dr. McBane to chastise Cooper for his weight, which has ballooned to 21+ pounds. Instead of reprimanding him (me), however, she said cats which have been abandoned, as he had been, often become food insecure and never get over it.

As for 5.9 pound Astrid, she curled her paws around the edge of the scale and had to be pried off at least four times before she could get her vaccine and claws trimmed. I didn’t get a photo of her shenanigans, as I was trying to help pry up her paws.

ROUNDUP REPORT: Tortoise shell cat having her heart listed to.

Calista Jo, Kizmet and Lisbeth were not happy campers, but they behaved. Like Astrid, C.J. and Lisbeth are senior kitties and have lost weight, but are definitely not wasting way and are in good health.

ROUNDUP REPORT: Collage of three cats having a check up by the vet.

Raleigh only had his claws trimmed and Sawyer had blood drawn for a phenobarbital check. Though, Sawyer has been getting his pheno meds transdermally for five weeks and has not had a seizure (that we know of) for the past month; the level of pheno in his blood has dropped even more and is way below a therapeutic level. Right now, however, we are in a wait-and-see mode before making any additional changes. to his meds.

So that’s the report from this year’s roundup.

Friendly Fill-Ins

The Friendly Fill-Ins blog hop is hosted each Friday by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Lorianne (Four-Legged Furballs). They publish the fill-in sentences on their blogs each Thursday. Thankfully, Stinky stepped up again to help out this week. We both used teal italics for our fill-ins. Any additional or explanatory information is in parentheses.

1. The best part of the summer is watermelon, apricots and peaches.

2. I can’t believe that I ever dated someone who became a director with the CIA. (That is true!)

3. Stinky: I would happily spend time with Periwinkle every single day.

4. I could use a break from the heat and humidity.

“UNTIL HE RETURNS” & THANKFULS

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Here we are again on Thursday and writing some poetry based on an inspiration photo provided by those Two Spoiled Cats, Teddy and Angel Sammy.

Here’s this week’s super cute photo followed by my poem.

A ginger tabby cat with its paws in dirty, old, white sneakers waiting for its human to return.

Until He Returns

These shoes are much too big for me,
but they smell like my human, make me feel safe.
If I fit inside, I would curl up real tight,
not come out until he returns to me.

I don’t know this boisterous woman
he called the cat sitter; she smells like dog,
keeps trying to touch me, ruffle my furs,
laughs at me when I hiss and growl at her.

I want my human, his warm lap, soft voice,
gentle fingers scratching behind my ears.
If I could drag these shoes under the bed,
I would hide there until he returns to me.

Thankful Thursday

Each Thursday, Kitties Blue and I also reflect on the things from the past week for which we are grateful.

Kitties Blue, and especially Sawyer, are thankful to each of you who visited and commented on our “Two Ameowzing Anniversaries” post which celebrated our 13th blogiversary and the anniversary of Sawyer’s second Gotcha Day (the day I brought him home from his walkabout).

We are always thankful for those of you who participate in our Sunday Selfies blog hop.

Periwinkle and Stinky are thankful for those who joined them on their adventure to Paint Bank, Virginia.

Both Dad Tom and I are thankful the temperature has dropped from the 90s to the 80s, so we could get some work done outside. yesterday.

Staring light-colored ginger tabby cat with "airplane" ears and big pupils. Finally, we are all thankful that Raleigh decided to come back in the house after about 36 hours in the yard. This was his third escape, and like the last time, he was out in off-and-on, very heavy rain, which amounted to 2 1/2 inches. He never leaves the property, but it still causes me so much stress. I cannot get him to keep a collar on and his microchip doesn’t do anything to help me locate him. He needs an AirTag, like Sawyer, Kizmet and Audrey wear, and he also needs to quit escaping. The screen door from the catio to the stairs leading to the backyard now has a heavy duty bolt out of the reach of prying paws.

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by Angel Brian. To join us there, click on the thankful badge.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CCXCVIII

Though both Periwinkle and Noelle stopped in yesterday when Stinky and Sawyer were celebrating the anniversary of their return home after their walkabout four years ago, Stinky is excited to go on an adventure with Periwinkle today. They stayed at his house the last two times he was in charge of the planning. So, he promised Periwinkle something special for today.

Stinky does not have to wait long until he sees the teleportation tunnel start to vibrate. With a whoosh Periwinkle tumbles out right into his waiting paws. After several minutes of whisker kissing and paw hugging, Stinky takes Periwinkle’s paw and leads her back into the tunnel. Moments later they arrive at their destination: a huge, bright yellow house. “Oh, Stinky, I recognize this. It is the Lemon Hotel where your parents spent their anniversary,” gushes Periwinkle.

Lemon Hotel – Paint Bank, Virginia

“That’s right, Periwinkle, this is the Lemon Hotel in Paint Bank, Virginia. My mom and dad said there are some fun things we can explore and then spend the night here. Let’s get checked in, so we can get started.”

When they enter, both tabbies “ooh” and “ahh” at how pretty the hotel is. Everywhere they look they see unique features and gorgeous antiques. The bright yellow color is so welcoming and happy; though, lemons can represent the challenges and difficulties one experiences in life.

After checking in, Stinky and Periwinkle head to the Blueberry Suite, which is where Stinky’s mom and dad stayed.

Two cartoon tabbies cats, Periwinkle Stinky, in the sitting room of the Blueberry Suite at The Lemon Hotel.

“Stinky this is absolutely gorgeous. I cannot believe we get to stay here. Let’s check out the bedroom.”

Two cartoon tabbies cats, Periwinkle Stinky, in the bedroom of the Blueberry Suite at The Lemon Hotel.

“This bed looks really comfy too,” states Periwinkle. She then asks Stinky what he can tell her about the hotel.

Stinky explains that the property was originally a hotel and built in 1909 by a Mr. Lemon. It has undergone several different transformations and has been a halfway house, a private residence and a hospital. After falling into disuse and disrepair, it was purchased by John and Nancy Mulvern, who already owned a lodge and the general store in town. It was Mr. Mulvern’s dream to turn the building into a boutique hotel. Unfortunately he passed away prior to accomplishing this. His widow decided to continue the renovation project, which took several years. The Lemon Hotel officially opened in July 2021 and contains six rooms/suites each named for a different fruit grown on the property.

Exploring Paint Bank

After checking out their suite, Stinky takes Periwinkle’s paw and leads her back outside. “There are a couple of things we need to investigate out in the countryside. It isn’t really that far, but I think we should take the teleportation tunnel so we don’t wear out our paw pads.” Moments later, they find themselves further out in the country. Periwinkle squeals when she sees two large bison behind a fence. “Wow, Stinky, look how huge they are.”

“Come on, Periwinkle, let’s go check them out.” Periwinkle looks skeptical about getting any closer. Stinky, however, assures her that he is a bison whisperer, and they will be entirely safe. Once inside the fence, Stinky encourages her to hop up on one of the bison.

“Stinky, please don’t say anything like, ‘giddy-up,'” admonishes Periwinkle. Stinky giggles but minds what she says.

After checking out the bison, Stinky leads Periwinkle to something else he wants to check out. When they arrive, he immediately climbs aboard.

“Stinky, I guess it is okay for us to be on here, as it does seem to be out of commission,” exclaims Periwinkle.

“I sure wish I had one of these,” Stinky tells Periwinkle. “It would be so much fun to ride around town in.”

Periwinkle just giggles. After the tabbies investigate the fire engine a bit more, Stinky suggests they head back to the hotel for a snack.

Back at The Lemon Hotel

“Oh goody, Stinky, lemon bars and lemonade. What could be better or more appropriate.”

“It is perfect, Periwinkle. We’ll be having dinner and breakfast here as well. When we finish our snack, would you like to sit on the porch for a little while?”

“Yes, that sounds lovely.”

Two cartoon tabbies cats, Periwinkle & Stinky, on the front porch of the Lemon Hotel.

“Stinky, this is so peaceful. The only place better is our cottage, don’t you agree?”

“I do, Periwinkle, as it is our special place!”

After some time rocking on the porch and snoozing a little bit, Stinky tells Periwinkle that they have another place to visit.

The General Store

Two cartoon tabbies cats, Periwinkle & Stinky, on the front porch of the Paint Bank General Store.

“Are we going to do some shopping, Stinky?”

“No, there are lots of things to buy here as well as a restaurant, but we are going to check out some of the cool decor,” Stinky replies. “Let’s go in.”

When they get inside, the first thing the tabbies do is check out a diorama with deer, a turkey, a beaver and a fox.

“This is so realistic, Stinky. Thank you for not climbing all over everything.” Stinky decides not to say anything. He just takes Periwinkle’s paw and leads her upstairs.

“This is the Swinging Bridge, for which the restaurant below is named,” Stinky explains.

“Stinky, please mind the sign and do not run.” Stinky pouts but heeds Periwinkle’s wish. From the bridge, the tabbies search out the next attraction and discover a cow wearing shoes. Of course, Stinky hops right up. Periwinkle decides that she might as well join him, as she does not see anyone around to chastise them.

“This is certainly a funny looking cow but probably a bit safer than those bison in the pasture,” states Periwinkle. “What’s next, Stinky?”

“I think you will really like this, Periwinkle.”

“Oh my cat, Stinky, do you think this was once a live bobcat?”

“It sure looks like it, Periwinkle. At least that is something you and I will never have to worry about happening to us!”

“Whew, I am certainly happy about that. What is on the agenda now?”

“Back to the hotel for a nap, then dinner, relaxing on the porch and bed. There is a mill here. It is called Tingler’s Mill, and has a long and interesting history, but we are going to save that for another adventure. I hope that is okay with you.”

“The plan for the evening sounds perfect. And I would love to come back here again.”

Stinky takes Periwinkle’s paw and leads her back to the hotel.

TWO AMEOWZING ANNIVERSARIES

Our 13th Blogiversary

When the Kitties Blue and I set out on this amazing blogging adventure, we had no idea we would still be at it thirteen years later. That is longer than I held any paying job during my time as a worker bee. Maybe this endeavor has endured, as I have no one to answer to except the cats and those of you who visit and read our posts.

The Kitties

When this all began, Dad Tom and I were the human parents to seven cats: Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Astrid, Lisbeth, Giulietta and Fiona. Calista Jo joined us just three months later. Eight cats had come before this group, and Lily Olivia had known all but one of those. She continued to be the bridge between that group and the group that became known as Kitties Blue.

Fiona gained her angel wings in 2016 at just six years old, but the following year two more cats joined the group, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer, bringing our household to a total of nine demanding cats and two human servants. Unfortunately Lily Olivia left us in January of 2018. As the years went by we would also lose Giulietta, Mau and Misty May. And Kizmet, Raleigh and Audrey would join us. (If you are unfamiliar with any of our kitties past or present, check out The Felines page.)

So here we sit with eight Kitties Blue on this 13th blogoversary. During those years, Astrid and Mau would find and marry their soulmates, Sampy (also now an angel) and Allie (an angel along with Mau).

Periwinkle & Stinky

Logo for the Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky with two cartoon tabby cats.On October 8, 2019, I created and introduced two cartoon cats, Stinky and Periwinkle (the alter egos of Sawyer and his girlfriend Noelle [Friends Furever]), as we didn’t have enough cats to deal with already. Periwinkle/Noelle’s Mom Sharon and I began collaborating and sharing “The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky,” on alternate Tuesdays. Those crazy adventurous tabbies have been awarded numerous Certificates of Excellence from the Cat Writers’ Association. Tomorrow, they will share their 298th adventure right here.

Some Other Accomplishments

🐈 Just a couple of other facts before we move on. I began the Sunday Selfies blog hop on August 17, 2014, and yesterday was its 570th week.Cat Writers' Association Muse Medallion

🐈‍⬛ This is our 3,884th post.

🐾 And last October, The Cat on My Head received the Muse Medallion as Best Entertainment blog for 2023.

In celebration of this 13-year milestone, we will be having a giveaway, but more about that later.

Sawyer’s Second Gotcha Day Anniversary

Grey Manx tabby cat, Sawyer, returns from his walkabout.Sometimes events in our universe align themselves purrfectly, and that is what happened on July 21, 2021, when I brought Sawyer home after his three-and-a-half week walkabout. Sawyer found an opportunity to escape from the house on June 26. During the time he was missing, he managed to travel .9 miles from home and end up at the exact house from where Dad Tom and I adopted our very first cat, Skooter, in the mid-80s. So, we now celebrate two anniversaries every July 21st.

(If you are unfamiliar with the story of Sawyer’s walkabout and homecoming, you can read it in the book, Purrseverance, where it is published under the title, “Sawyer: The Lucky Cat.” (Check our sidebar for additional information.)

In celebration of this anniversary, we will be having a second giveaway.

Party Time

With all this talk about celebrating, I guess it is time to get down to it. When Mauricio was alive he became the official baker at Cat Scouts as well as for our blog. After Cooper Murphy joined Cat Scouts, Mau began teaching him the art of baking. When Mau became an angel, Cooper took over the baking responsibilities full-time. As we are celebrating two important occasions, Coop baked two cakes for today.

Anniversary Cake with four tiers and 10 cats.

Gotcha Day Anniversary cake with three tiers, stars and a grey tabby cat on the top.

We also have an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet as well as beverages and everyone’s favorite nip ice cream.

Seafood buffet

Beverages and ice cream.

Please enjoy and stay as long as you like.

Giveaway

To commemorate today, we are going to have a giveaway with three separate prizes. Each will have a little gift for the human and one for the cat(s) [or two for the human if the winner(s) does not share their home with a kitty]. To be entered, you only need to leave a comment on this post prior to noon on Thursday, July 24. Kitties Blue will use Random.org to select the three winners and announce the names on Friday.

What’s Coming Up

As mentioned earlier in this post, Periwinkle & Stinky will be here tomorrow sharing their next adventure. Then on Wednesday we will be celebrating another anniversary. It will be Angels Allie and Mau’s Ninth Wedding anniversary. Thursday will be our day for poetry and thankfuls. For Feline Friday, I plan to share news from this year’s roundup.

Awww Mondays

I had planned to share a Spark today, but will save it for next week. The kitties, however, will be participating in the Awww Mondays blog hop hosted by Sandee at Comedy Plus. To join our gang there, click on the Awww badge.

Thank you so much for celebrating with us today. Without those of you who visit and comment on our posts, Kitties Blue and I would have no reason to be here.

TOE BEAN ABSTRACT ART

Caturday Art

Colorful abstract art of cat paw and toe beans.

When it comes to my art creations, I have always thought the more the better. I have not, however, gone overboard in a very long time. So, it seemed like it was about time to go a little crazy.

I am not sure if it is obvious or not, but this is a paw and toe beans. Well, I guess the title of the post probably did give that away. But, more about that later.

To create this masterpiece, I used the “tuiks” effect from Painnt. And, I did tweak several of the settings there. To that I first added the XOXO filter at 100 percent and then the Bokeh 4 filter at 100 percent. Both are from piZap. Finally I added a frame from the favpng app.

The owner of this paw will be participating in the Caturday Art blog hop hosted by Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty. To do the same, click on Athena’s badge.

Jigsaw Puzzle

As always, I did create a jigsaw puzzle.

Game Time

Kitties Blue and I have not given away anything in a very long time, and so we thought it would be fun to do so. Here’s how this game works. Whoever is the first to guess correctly which of the Kitties Blue this paw and these toe bean belong to will win a surprise. We’ll have something for the human and for the cat(s) to which the human belongs. If the winner doesn’t have any kitties, we’ll provide something for whatever pet(s) they do share their life and home with. So, make a guess. You just might be right! If no one guesses correctly, we will have a random drawing among all those who do guess.

Hopping Time

Tomorrow is not only Selfie Sunday but also Father’s Day. I have no idea what Kitties Blue might have on their furry little minds for our blog hop, but I am certain it will be something to let their dad know how much they depend on and appreciate him. With that said, feel free to do the same when you create your selfie. We do know that you’ll probably have a busy day showing your dad or dad-substitute just how much you love him, so we will understand if you cannot get to the hop tomorrow. That’s why we always keep it open through Thursday.

Thanks for stopping in today. We do hope to see you again tomorrow.
