Thankful Thursday

A POEM OF PEACE & THANKFULS

Thankful Thursday

We are starting with thankfuls today for Angel Brian’s blog hop.

💐 Ten years ago today, Angel “Mau”ricio and Angel Allie (Friends Furever) were married at Cat Scouts. (Of course, they were not angels at the time.) Scoutmaster officiated and all their friends and fursibs attended.

⛈️ We have been having significant rainfall almost every day. Unfortunately, we remain in an “emergency-level” drought. Rain is approximately 7.8 inches below normal throughout the Commonwealth. This represents the second driest year on record. The driest was 2002. Our region has only received 57 percent of the rain that is normal for this time of year. Nonetheless, we are thankful for what we have been getting and pray it continues.

🥳 Periwinkle & Stinky are thankful for each of you who joined their adventure on Tuesday. They celebrated the anniversary of Angel Sawyer’s Gotcha Day and our blog’s 14th blogoversary.

😸 Kitties Blue and I are thankful for each of you who visit and comment on our posts, and especially for those who join our Sunday Selfies blog hop.

We will be hopping over to Angel Brian’s Home to participate in the Thankful Thursday blog hop. To join us there, click on the Thankful badge.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Thursday is also poetry day. The Two Spoiled Cats, Teddy and Angel Sammy, presented us with a bucolic inspiration photo this week. I have added Gibbs to my photo. He is that tiny white and black speck on the deck.  In the poem, his name is Charlie.

A cabin in the peaceful setting in the woods with a cat on the deck.

A Place of Peace

Our cabin in the woods
may look rundown and shabby,
but it brings peace to my soul.

No phone, internet, TV
or noisy, nosey neighbors … just
burbling creek sounds and Charlie.

While I daydream, read or nap,
Charlie chitters at the squirrels
then joins me for a snack.

We watch birds and butterflies,
fireflies, like magical fairies,
when the sun dips behind the trees.

The hours and days pass peacefully.
We enjoy each other and our refuge
until we reluctantly return to city living.

A RIDICULOUS POEM & THANKFULS

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Once again I have taken on the task of writing a poem for Teddy and Angel Sammy’s (Two Spoiled Cats) weekly poetry challenge.

Much like the inspiration photo they provided, my poem is completely ridiculous. The only reason I can think someone would attempt this is as the result of a dare.

Here’s the photo followed by my poem.

Go Ahead & Laugh

Whose idea was this?
I feel totally ridiculous—
like a clown in the circus.

Riding this way is treacherous.
Thinking I could was arrogance,
as I failed in my preparedness.

It may not look so on the surface,
but I actually had a purpose—
to prove my prowess and endurance.

No matter if the task is frivolous,
I will complete it with exuberance.
Then you can laugh at my foolishness!

DOG DAYS & THANKFULS

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Here we are again with some poetry for Two Spoiled Cats, Angel Sammy and Teddy’s, weekly poetry challenge. Last week they gave us a napping pooch as the inspiration photo, and this week they gave us two!

Here’s the photo followed by my poem.

Two dogs napping on pool floats on a hot day.

Dog Days

The dog days of summer have arrived.
It’s hot and humid—we feel barely alive.
We’ve found some relief floating in the pool,
as the water is refreshing and cool.

When the little humans arrive and begin splashing,
we will need to abandon our floats and napping.
But for now, we will relish our relaxing retreat
from this summer’s oppressive heat.

TO SMOOCH OR NOT TO SMOOCH? & THANKFULS

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Time again to write a bit of poetry to accompany an inspiration photo provided by Angel Sammy and Teddy (Two Spoiled Cats).

I have not added one of the Kitties Blue to the photo in quite a long time, so I have added Audrey today. It is a rather silly little poem, but I hope you enjoy it.

Dog on a red sofa asleep on its back with its tongue out with a torbie cat lying next to it.

To Smooch or Not to Smooch?

What a super cute pooch.
I wonder if I should give him a smooch?
That, however, is a super huge tongue.
If he kisses me back it could be my last one—
too much dog spit and I could drown
or at the very least slide right down
to the floor where I might be mangled
by those paws as big as anvils.
I think I best not make any advances.
I am uncertain of my chances—
of surviving!

Thankful Thursday

Thursday also is our day to share some thankfuls from the past week.

Angel Sawyer and Stinky thank those who attended their birthday party here yesterday and the one celebrated on Tuesday at Friends Furever.

It reached 101 degrees F. yesterday and is supposed to be the same for the next couple of days. I am not a fan of the heat, but I’m super thankful that our swim/spa is now up and running, and we will be able to start enjoying it beginning tomorrow.

Kitties Blue and I appreciate each of you who visit the blog and comment, especially those who participate in the Sunday Selfies hop.

KIZMET: ANOTHER MISSED BIRTHDAY & THANKS

June and its important holidays have gotten the better of me. I have barely managed to celebrate any of them on the correct days. So, once again I have missed another birthday (from Tuesday) as well as Cat World Domination Day from yesterday. As this cat believes the latter was invented with her in mind, we will celebrate both today.

Super Meowdel’s 6th Birthday

As Periwinkle & Stinky were off on their weekly adventure Tuesday, we should have been celebrating Kizmet’s birthday. I guess, as we were two days late for Calista Jo’s, Kizmet is not getting any worse treatment.

Collage of a grey kitten, Kizmet, and the same grey cat on her sixth birthday.

Kizmet: Then & Now

Kizmet was our COVID kitty, adopted in December of 2020. We were not even allowed to hold her until after we had officially adopted her.

She’s is the most social of all the Kitties Blue, and she is our official super meowdel. In the now photo, she is giving some birdies a tongue lashing, which does not really show her in super meowdel mode.

Without further preamble or ado, let’s do some celebrating.

As always, there is a gorgeous cake from resident baker, Cooper Murphy. When you compare his caricature of Kizmet to her kitten photo, we think he totally caught her personality.

Purple birthday cake with white and purple striped candy mice and at the caricature of a grey cat named, Kizmet, on the top.

To accompany the cake we have a seafood buffet and some beverages.

Please enjoy the party. In the meantime, I will share some thankfuls for the week.

Thankful Thursday

Dad Tom and I are so thankful for Kizmet. She is a purrfect greeter for anyone who visits, and she definitely was a light in our lives during COVID when we were stuck at home. There isn’t anybody she doesn’t love, except for possibly Tali and Gibbs.

Dad Tom and I completed nine years on the Peloton. My abilities have diminished over time, but I have no intention of quitting anytime soon. Tom now rides his electric bike more often than Peloton, but as long as we are able to be active, we are both super grateful.

Calista Jo is thankful to all those who joined her for her birthday party and left comments for her.

I had a great day on Tuesday for which I am truly thankful. My friend Mary Jane surprised me with a visit that morning. Shortly after she left, I received a telephone call from a dear friend who moved from here nearly 20 years ago. Dad Tom and I are going to plan a road trip to Maine in the fall to visit her. We will make plans to visit some other friends on the way there and home as well.

Periwinkle & Stinky wish to thank Dalton and Benji’s mom, Ingrid, from Meezer’s Mews & Terrieristical Woofs, for suggesting they visit Grouse Mountain, Vancouver, British Columbia, for their recent adventure. They also appreciate those of you who adventured with them and left comments on their post.

And, of course, Kitties Blue and I are thankful for each of you who visit and comment and especially for those who hop with us for Sunday Selfies.

We will be participating in Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday blog hop. To do the same click on the Thankful badge.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Normally, I would be sharing a poem today based on an inspirational photo provided by Angel Sammy and Teddy from Two Spoiled Cats. However, with everything else going on in this post, I am saving that for tomorrow.

Thanks for dropping in to see us today.

TWINS & A HUMMER

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

It’s poetry day for us, as we join Teddy and Angel Sammy (Two Spoiled Cats) for their weekly poetry challenge. They provided an adorable inspiration photo, and I thought it would be easy to write a poem about it. Not so. I wrote two poems, neither of which were very good. Finally with some combining, reorganizing and rewriting, I came up with something passable.

Here’s the inspiration photo followed by my poem.

Twin infants - one crying and one laughing.

Just a Phase?

Twins in looks but not in actions:
Laughter from one, cries from the other.
Never knowing what to expect is a bother;
I’m not always careful with my reaction.

When Mathew giggles, Jeremy cries—
a strange pattern has been created,
and I have found no way to deflate it—
not even with kisses, hugs or a surprise!

Perhaps this unusual phase will pass,
and they’ll both find their moods aligning—
less unsolicited laughter and no more crying.
That’s all this tired mom can ask!

Thursday also is our day to share some thankfuls from the past week.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to take several photos of Raleigh. He certainly has been making himself more available lately, which totally surprises me. I’ll be sharing one of those for Feline Friday tomorrow.

We had our first hummer visitor of 2026 yesterday evening. Though, they show up in the area in April; they never make it to our neighborhood before the end of June or early July. You are probably wondering how we know it was the first of the year for us: Our hummingbird feeder has a camera.

THE INTERLOPER & THANKFULS

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

It’s Thursday and time to write some poetry. Angel Sammy and Teddy (Two Spoiled Cats) post an inspiration photo for those who wish to participate in their weekly poetry challenge. Here’s the photo.

A group of obese women and one male interloper playing at the beach.

This is my second attempt at writing something I wasn’t embarrassed to publish. I think in needs another stanza, but I couldn’t come up with one.

The Interloper

Romping in the ocean was a delight
until this random guy came into sight.
We politely asked him to leave,
but he said this was not our private beach.

He announced he was staying right there.
About our feelings he didn’t care.
We thought this guy just might be single—
so, as widows we decided to mingle.

But he never spoke to any of us again.
Wouldn’t even favor us with a grin.
Just kept romping and showing off
until I ran up and kicked him in the duff!

MEMORIES & THANKFULS

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

As they do each week, our friends, Angel Sammy and Teddy (Two Spoiled Cats) have provided an inspiration photo to spark our imaginations and help us write a poem.

Here’s today’s image followed by my poem.

Photo of a dilapidated cabin on a river.

Memories

Years of neglect hastened its demise.
Once a peaceful retreat—
now a dilapidated eyesore.
Nothing can be salvaged,
but memories from another time.
Children laughing and splashing,
adults relaxing and reading,
birthday parties, anniversaries.
Photos remind me what was,
but my heart aches for what is lost!

Thankful Thursday

What was going to be my primary thankful this week has been postponed. My friend, Etna, and I were scheduled to visit Oscar and Oliver yesterday, but Etna was not well, and so that visit will be happening at some other time. I did share new photos of them yesterday. If you missed those, the link to yesterday’s post is at the bottom of this one.

I finally added Gibbs and Tali to “The Felines” page here on the blog and updated photos of Audrey, Cooper Murphy and Raleigh.

As usual, I totally procrastinated until the last day, but I did manage to send a few submissions to the Cat Writers’ Association annual contest on Sunday.

Kitties Blue and I are thankful to everyone who follows our blog and comments on our posts. We are particularly grateful for those of you who join our Sunday Selfies blog hop.

MOM’S SECRET & THANKFULS

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Whenever Thursday rolls around, it is time to write some poetry and join Two Spoiled Cats’ poetry challenge. Angel Sammy and Teddy provide an inspiration photo for participants to use as a starting place for our poems. Here’s this week’s photo followed by my poem.

An antique chest.

Mom’s Secret

This antique chest was stored away
until I found it in Mom’s attic one day.

She never mentioned it when she was alive.
So, I was curious to see what was inside.

It was locked, I had no key
and no idea where one might be.

With a little work, I loosened the hinges
and was able to pry off the lid.

The inside was packed tight with letters—
definitely not the expected treasures.

I didn’t know the return address or sender
but could see it was someone of the male gender.

Was this an old flame my mom had dated
and should I read them—I debated?

When I discovered every envelope remained sealed,
I knew the truth would never be revealed.

If Mom didn’t read them, neither should I.
This secret she kept will also die!

This poem is definitely unfinished. No matter what I tried, I could not bring it to a satisfactory conclusion for which I apologize.

Thankful Thursday

Thursdays are also the day when Kitties Blue and I like to share the things for which we are thankful. Then we join the Thankful Thursday blog hop hosted by Angel Brian.

Periwinkle and Stinky asked to start off the thankfuls this week. They had a special adventure to The National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia, to commemorate Memorial Day. Not only are they thankful they had the opportunity to share this with you but also for those of you who joined them and left comments on the post. They also are thankful to Dad Tom for capturing so many terrific photographs for them to use.

Though, Lisbeth’s ears have not totally healed from her recent infection; she looks so much better and has started coming back downstairs and hanging out in her usual spot at the top of the dining room cat tree. This makes me very happy.

Dad Tom and I are thankful that we have had a somewhat significant amount of rain over the last several days. We still have extreme drought conditions, but I am counting on having some softer ground so I can begin uprooting all the weeds that sprouted during the rain. Yesterday, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to put plants in the six cement pots on our porch steps.

Kitties Blue and I are always thankful to those of you who read and comment on our posts as well as for those who participate in our Sunday Selfies hop.

ANNIVERSARY THANKFUL & A POEM

Thankful Thursday

On Thursdays, Kitties Blue and I like to share things for which we are thankful from the past week. Then we participate in the Thankful Thursday bl0g hop.

I received another cat kiss from Raleigh. Maybe that boy is softening toward me.

Dad Tom and I celebrated our 53rd wedding anniversary on Tuesday with a nice dinner out. I am so thankful to have such a kind, thoughtful and supportive partner with which to share my life.

Throughly Poetic Thursday

It also is time for some poetry based on an inspiration photo provided by our friends, Teddy and Angel Sammy, from Two Spoiled Cats.

Here’s the inspiration photo followed by my poem.

Child reading under the covers with a flashlight.

Defiance

“Just one more chapter,” I said.
“Mom said, “No, go to bed.”
If Mom finds me, she’ll be vexed,
but I just have to know what happens next.
Will the bad guys win,
or will the police catch and take them in?
I’m not sure what I would prefer,
but I do know one thing for sure:
I cannot be left in suspense,
or I’ll lie awake wondering what does come next!
