KIZMET CATURDAY ART

Caturday Art

Kizmet Caturday Art: Back of a grey cat's head turned orange and covered in bubbles for an art project.

Our sweet angel, Mauricio, was a sports enthusiast. He always watched volleyball with his dad. Kizmet is our current sports fan. She doesn’t discriminate and enjoys all sports. In this photo for Caturday Art, she was sitting on her dad’s lap watching with him on his iPad.

I used the Arbol de Vida effect from Painnt and an overlay from piZap to create the art.

And, of course, there’s a puzzle for those of you who enjoy them.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday. That means your humans most likely will be busy. With that in mind, we suggest you get your selfie snapped today and ready to upload first thing Sunday morning.

After you’ve joined the hop, grab your favorite treats and settle into your favorite easy chair to watch the revamped Kitten Bowl. Last year there was no Kitten Bowl due to the Hallmark channel canceling the program. Renamed the Great American Rescue Bowl (GARB), it will air on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. ET on the Great American Family channel. Not only will it feature kittens needing homes, but puppies as well as adult dogs and cats. Check to see if your television provider offers this channel. If not, you can view it on a variety of steaming channels.

Thanks for joining us today and please do come back tomorrow. You know we love seeing your adorable faces.

MISSING FIONA, THANKFULS & A POEM

Ooopsie…I just discovered I didn’t post this at midnight!

Thankful Thursday

Kitties Blue and I are joining the Thankful Thursday blog hop hosted by Brian. If you’d like to participate, post on your blog for what you are grateful, and then click on Brian’s badge to visit his blog and linkup.

  • Today is the sixth anniversary of our precious kitty, Fiona, receiving her wings. We definitely are not thankful that she is no longer with us, but eternally grateful to have had her in our lives. I think of her everyday. If you haven’t read the poems her sister Giulietta and I wrote for her, they are on the sidebar. This is the link to her obituary post, “Farewell Fiona.” She’ll be loved always.

Grey cat on couch

  • I am thankful I have completed a good portion of the Christmas decorating and have started addressing Kitties Blue holiday cards. These projects are eating up hours each day, so I must add to the thankful my apologies for Kitties Blue and my lack of visiting and commenting.
  • Cooper Murphy is thankful for earning another merit badge at Cat Scouts by learning about turkeys and passing his quiz.

  • Dad Tom and I are thankful Sawyer has been eating well lately; though, he did have a seizure prior to our returning home this past Saturday after celebrating Thanksgiving with family.
  • As always, Kitties Blue and I are especially thankful to all of you who follow, support and comment on our current posts and those we are sharing in our Looking Back links. But, more than anything, we are blessed to have your friendship.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

It was definitely a difficult task this week to figure out how to add Kitties Blue to Teddy and Angel Sammy’s inspiration photo for their poetry challenge. Requiring even more effort was coming up with a suitable poem. The poem is a bit lackluster, but the gang and I hope you’ll enjoy it nonetheless.

An African woman carrying five clay pots on her head and four in her hands with cats and five cats around her feet.

Potted Cats

This nice lady is bringing us nine pots,
So we each will have our own cozy bed.
Four of us are trying them out,
But none of us are on her head.
Lisbeth actually enjoys being up high,
But if she fell, there might be blood shed!
She’s waiting ’til her bed’s on the ground
Where she’ll add a nice warm bedspread
And curl up for a good long nap
Until it’s time for Kitties Blue to be fed.
We thank this lady for her generosity,
Because we Kitties Blue are all well-bred!

If you haven’t been participating in Teddy and Angel Sammy’s poetry challenge, I recommend you give it a try. It’s the perfect opportunity to use your imagination and creativity. Check out Two Spoiled Cats, by clicking on the poetry badge, for next week’s inspiration photo. And please read Angel Sammy’s poem. He is a terrific and masterful poet.

So that’s it for today. We look forward to seeing you all again tomorrow.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CLX

Autumn Leaves & Waterfalls

Stinky is more excited than usual to see Periwinkle for their adventure. As he last saw her on Halloween, he’s had to wait eight days for their get together. He’s delighted when he hears the teleportation tunnel rumbling. Moments later, with a whoosh, Periwinkle is ejected right into his waiting paws. They spend a bit more time than usual paw hugging and whisker kissing before Stinky takes her paw and leads Periwinkle back into the tunnel.

They arrive at their destination in North Carolina. When Periwinkle sees the beautiful colors in front of her, she squeals in delight. “Stinky, this is amazingly beautiful. Where are we?”

Pisgah National Forest

“This is Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina. We’ve come to look at the autumn leaves. My mom says the leaves are the prettiest she has ever seen. She’s super old, so they must be spectacular. I know we’ve had similar fall adventures, so I hope this is okay?”

“Yes, absolutely,” replies Periwinkle. “I definitely don’t get to see this at home.”

“That is Looking Glass Rock in the background. It has an elevation of 3,969 feet and is very popular with hikers,” explains Stinky.

“We aren’t going to climb it, are we?” asks Periwinkle in a shaky voice. “I know how much you like to climb things and get up really high.”

“Nope, I think that’s too high for even me,” Stinky tells her.

“Wow, Stinky, I can hardly believe how beautiful these leaves are,” exclaims Periwinkle.

“They certainly are. The Blue Ridge Parkway is always a great place to see flowers in the spring and colorful leaves in autumn. That’s the Buck Spring tunnel behind us. Do you want to walk through it?”

“I think I’ll pass. We don’t have a flashlight, and from here it looks pretty dark!”

First Waterfall Stop

Two cartoon tabby cats next to waterfall, called Lower Falls, in North Carolina.

“Oh, boy, waterfalls,” exclaims Periwinkle as she claps her paws. “I love them, and we haven’t visited any in ages.”

Stinky tells her these are called Lower Falls. He is surprised that Periwinkle has climbed higher than he has, but doesn’t say anything. He doesn’t want to call her attention to it in case she gets frightened.

“Stinky, this is even a better view of Looking Glass Rock,” says Periwinkle.

“Yes it is,” Stinky replies.

Picnic Time

Two Cartoon tabby cats sitting on a red plaid blanket and having a picnic at Living Waters waterfall below the Blue Ridge Parkway along the north fork of the French Broad River in Balsam Grove.

“Oh boy a picnic. Thank you Stinky. You are the most thoughtful boyfriend. I love listening to the water, and this will give us lots of time to do so while we have a snack.”

“This waterfall is called Living Waters. Right now we are below the Parkway along the north fork of the French Broad River in Balsam Grove,” Stinky replies.

“Well, it certainly is a lovely spot.”

After their snack the tabbies fall asleep listening to the falls. They only take a short nap prior to moving on to the final attraction of the day.

Dry Falls

Two cartoon tabby cats and colorful fall leaves at Dry Falls in North Carolina.

Before even asking where they are, Periwinkle admonishes Stinky for climbing so high. Secretly he wishes he’d said something to her when she climbed above him at Lower Falls. Stinky is tempted to blow a razzberry at her, but remains the gentleman and refrains. He tells her they are now at Dry Falls.

“That’s a funny name. This waterfall has more water than the others,” Periwinkle tells Stinky.

“The name comes from the fact that a trail lies behind the falls where we can walk without getting wet,” Stinky explains.

“Let’s go do that,” says Periwinkle.

Stinky agrees and tells her that after they go behind the falls, it is time to head back to his house. They join paws and stroll behind the waterfall giggling and enjoying each other’s company. They stop a couple of times to share whisker kisses. Then the two tabbies head to the teleportation tunnel for the speedy trip back to Stinky’s house.

Visiting the Kittens

After arriving at Stinky’s, Periwinkle says, “hi,” to Stinky’s parents. Both tabbies then head to the catio where they find Calista Jo, Audrey, Cooper Murphy and Raleigh. Bird watching seems to be on the day’s agenda, and Periwinkle and Stinky join in.

Two cartoon tabby cats on a catio with three other tabbies: a ginger, a brown and a buff colored one as well as a dilute tortie cat.

Periwinkle remarks that she is happy they have had a warm fall day for the adventure. Cooper Murphy tells her that the temperature has broken a record. The high was 83 degrees. The old high temperature for the date was 78 degrees.

Finally it’s time for Periwinkle to head home. She says “good-bye,” to all the Kitties Blue. She and Stinky spend several minutes paw hugging and whisker kissing. Then with the familiar whoosh of the teleportation tunnel, Periwinkle is on her way home.

Stinky returns to the catio to hang out in the sun with his fursibs.

The End

Periwinkle & Stinky are joining the Happy Tuesday blog hop at Comedy Plus.

REMEMBER ME THURSDAY 2022

#SeeTheLight

Did you know that 100 percent of Kitties Blue were stray/feral/abandoned, born to a stray mom or adopted from a rescue? Not all kitties (and other companion animals) are as fortunate as Kitties Blue. Last year we shared the history of how each of our cats, except, of course, newbies, Audrey and Raleigh, became a member of the Kitties Blue crew. You can read about those histories on the post, “Kitties Blue: Remembering to #SeeTheLight.

Today is Remember Me Thursday, a world-wide event sponsored by the Helen Woodward Animal Center. Its mission is to help everyone #SeeTheLight about pet adoption by remembering and honoring pets awaiting forever homes as well as those who lost their lives waiting to be adopted. It’s also intended to encourage individuals to spay and neuter their pets and to adopt pets waiting in shelters for forever homes.

#SeeTheLight: Large ginger cat holds a sign for #SeeTheLight for pet adoption.

Disclaimer: Items with the Remember Me Thursday logo appearing in this post were provided to me free of charge
to promote Remember Me Thursday on my social media accounts: The Cat on My Head  blog and Instgram at Kitties.Blue.

Some facts from the Remember Me Thursday website.

More than 50 percent of U.S. households have at least one pet. Even so, 6,000,000 cats and dogs enter animal shelters in the United States each year. While many pets are fortunate to find a loving, forever home due to the efforts of rescue organizations, each year over 900,000 cats spend the final moments of their lives in a shelter.

How to Help

According to the site, Pet Pedia, 625,000 pets were euthanized in 2019. That is a staggering number, but according to the Helen Woodward Animal Center, orphan pets could avoid this fate with more help from us. You can help by adopting from your local shelter or rescue and encouraging your friends to do the same. And if you can’t adopt, please consider fostering or sponsoring.

To learn more about what you can do, visit, “Information to Inspire” on the Remember Me Thursday site.

You also can help your local shelter or rescue by entering your rescue pet’s story in the Remembering Me Thursday Contest. Here’s what you need to do to enter:

  • Submit your pet’s photo and story directly to the contest page.
  • Or, post a picture of your best friend on social media using both the hashtags #RememberMeThursday and #SeeTheLight.

Deadline for entry is September 30.

You can check out all the great prizes on the website.

In 2020, we shared this poem and wanted to share it again. We will share our Thoroughly Poetic Thursday poem tomorrow.

OPT TO ADOPT ORPHAN CATS

Most of us were orphans at one time,
Whether roaming the streets or shelter confined.
But then one day our luck suddenly changed.
Two humans’ hearts we would claim.
They took us home to keep us safe forever
With food, shelter and love as our caregivers.
So today, will you please a candle light
And pray for the orphans to not give up the fight,
As they wait and long for their special human
To find them and become their number one fan.
And tell your friends to promote Remember Me Thursday,
So kitties worldwide can have their special gotcha day!

© Janet Buickerood Blue – 09/24/2020

Tomorrow at noon, we will be participating in Remember Me Thursday on Zoom. Kitties Blue and I hope you’ll join us there. Registration is required at the Remember Me Thursday site.

We also will be lighting a candle here at home to remember all our Kitties Blue, including angels, Giulietta and Fiona, whose mom was a stray cat.

Thankful Thursday

Dad Tom are thankful that we have been able to give a home to 22 cats.

Sawyer, Dad Tom and I are thankful he hasn’t had a seizure in 29 days. He needs some POTP, however, has he has been particularly bad about eating lately. That is usually the precursor to a seizure.

Cooper Murphy is thankful that Helen Woodward Animal Center included some toys with the Remember Me Thursday supplies.

18TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION & COMMENT-A-THON

Caturday Birthday Art

Today Misty May and Angel Mau celebrate their 18th birthday. My wish for today would be that Mau was still with us to celebrate. He was a wonderful cat with a warm and generous heart. I think about and miss him everyday.

birthday celebration comment-a-thon with kitten and adult photos of two tuxie cats

Their birthday card includes two of the very earliest photos taken shortly after we adopted Misty may and Mau in November of 2004. As youngsters they were bonded but grew apart as years passed. Mauricio was the nurturer, but he lavished his attention on others of the Kitties Blue and not his sister.

Though Misty May has been deaf for a few years and suffers from thyroid disease, she just keeps going like that Energizer bunny. She prefers to spend her days on the front porch and her nights on my pillow. She occasionally decides to spend an afternoon on one of our neighbor’s porches but is always home in plenty of time for meals.

I recently learned that male cats have shorter lifespans (up to two to three years less) than female cats, so that may be the reason Misty May is still with us and Mau isn’t. He received his angel wings on July 17, 2020.

Party Time

Cooper Murphy created an exceptionally cute cake. And we have some raspberry and nip-garnished, pink champagne to accompany it. Please help yourselves.

Comment-a-thon

In honor of Misty May and Angel Mau, Kitties Blue and I are having a comment-a-thon. I will donate $1 for every comment (one per person, please) made on this post through midnight Thursday. One commenter, selected through Random.org, will have the opportunity to select the pet rescue or charity to receive the donation. So please feel free to invite all your friends to join the party and comment.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

It is time again for selfies. And miracle of miracles, I know who your host will be. And she’s already snapped her photo. But that’s as much of a hint as you’ll get. You will need to join us again tomorrow to find out which of the girls it is.

Thanks for joining us for today’s celebration. Have a purrfect day.

HIDING FROM KITTENS SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #419

Grey cat is hiding from kittens amidst stored blankets.

When the kittens are having their daily playtime, Kizmet often joins them. Yesterday they were exceptionally rambunctious, and this was Kizmet’s defense. She tried hiding from them by climbing into the cabinet where we keep extra blankets. She decided it would be a purrfect place to snap her selfie.

A second photo exists that Kizmet and I think you’ll really want to see. I’ll share it on Wednesday, so please drop in again then.

Your Turn to Share

Kizmet and all her housemates are anxious to see your selfies. We all know they’ll be exceptional and make us smile. If you get it done quickly, you’ll have the entire day to enjoy your easy and cuddle with your humans. Of course, if you cannot participate today, you can join us anytime through Thursday.

Thanks to everyone who joins our hop, leaves comments, follows and supports us!

Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day

Rainbow Bridge Day

Today is also Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, which was started in 2013 by Deb Barnes (Zee & Zoey’s Chronicles) in memory of her kitty, Mr. Jazz. It is a day to remember and honor all our family and friends with fur, feathers or fins to whom we have said farewell.

Many of our fur kids received their wings long before I began this blog, and today I am remembering them: Our dogs, Smack and Poppy, and cats, Skooter, Steamer, Daphne, Thelma, Louise, Chloe, Twinkle, Madison and MacKenzie. I also will be thinking fondly of those Kitties Blue who have passed since the inception of The Cat on My Head: Fiona, Lily Olivia, Mauricio and Giulietta. I will be remembering Mau’s wife, Allie, and Lisbeth’s boyfriend, Charles, as well.

You can find photos for all but Charles and dogs, Poppy and Smack, on The Felines page, which is on the menu bar at the top of this page.

Dad Tom and I have cherished and loved each and every one of our fur kids and remember them fondly.

Kitties Blue send purrs, and I send hugs and prayers to everyone who is remembering a beloved furred, finned, or feathered family member today.

Thanks for joining us. We appreciate each of you.

PORTRAIT IN BLACK & WHITE

Sunday Selfies: Week #417

Portrait of a black and white (tuxedo cat) in a black and white polka dot frame with a butterfly.

I hope you don’t mind seeing me today. I know those kittens are super cute, but this blog was named for me after all. And I certainly don’t get many opportunities to be featured. I actually asked to take the selfie today and be your host, so I could invite you to my birthday party on Wednesday. I will be turning 18. Only two Kitties Blue (Daphne and Lily Olivia) have lived to be older than I am now. Of course, Daphne passed away before Mom started our blog. You can find out more about her by clicking on The Felines tab at the top of the page.

Anyhoo, to celebrate my birthday as well as that of my angel brofur, Mau, Mom said I could have a comment-a-thon. We haven’t had one in ages, so I am super excited I will get to host it. So, please remember to come back on Wednesday to party with me and all the other Kitties Blue. If you leave a comment, you might be selected by random drawing to choose where we send our donation.

Hopping Time

Now that I’ve filled you in on my plans for Wednesday, I sure hope you’ll join today’s hop. It’s easy and fun. Just snap a quick selfie and enter the link to your post below. You don’t even need to post today. The hop remains open through Thursday. I am looking forward to seeing your adorable faces.

If you have trouble entering your link for any reason, let us know in the comments. My mom can help you join the hop.

Thanks for being our friends, followers and supporters.

Purrs and paw-pats, Misty May

ART IN FLIGHT

Caturday Art

With apologies to our friends over in Trout Towne, we present today’s art.

Art version of a photo of a hummingbird in flight next to a feeder.

Hummingbirds come to our area as early as April, but they don’t seem to get to our yard until July. Currently we have two females coming to the feeder, the one in the photo and another about half its size.

As you might suspect, I did go back to Painnt to create this. The effect is called Rhody. I changed the hue from the original. And, of course, the rustic frame is from favpng.

I did make a puzzle as well.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

If you are like me and retired, you may have trouble keeping track of what day of the week it is. The only thing that keeps me from totally getting confused is this blog. I didn’t post on Friday due to some hosting issues and so thought yesterday was Saturday. Back on track, at least for the moment, I know tomorrow is Sunday, which means selfies and hopping.

As usual I have no idea who your host might be.  I do know a couple of kittens, however, that are probably up to the job. Whichever of the Kitties Blue is here, they all hope you’ll join in the fun and post a selfie. This really is a great place to make new friends.

Hoping to see you tomorrow. Have a great Caturday.

SOME MIGHTY HUGE THANKFULS

Thankful Thursday

We have a variety of mighty huge thankfuls this week for Brian’s Thankful Thursday blog hop.

Kitties Blue may not be thankful for the following, but Dad Tom and I are grateful for the opportunity to look after these two munchkins.

huge thankfuls: two tabby kittens wrapped in a colorful towel.

If you visited our Wordless Wednesday post, you already got a glimpse of these two. Meet No Name #1 (male buff/orange tabby) and No Name #2 (female brown tabby). They arrived here Tuesday evening after I agreed to take them from a friend. I’m fairly certain you are wondering if they are joining the Kitties Blue crew. At this time, that is not the plan, which is why they are unnamed. But only time will tell.

They have not met the Kitties Blue but all are aware of the others. #1 and #2 have a vet appointment tomorrow afternoon. Depending on how that goes will determine if they will be allowed to interact with the permanent residents.

Sawyer actually has the biggest and best thankful of the week. He hasn’t had a seizure in seven weeks! I’m always delighted when the time between seizures is extensive, but it also causes me to be on high alert in anticipation of one.

Stinky and Periwinkle told you that the Cat Writers’ Association awarded them Certificates of Excellence for two of their adventures. If you missed that post and would like to know which adventures received recognition, you can do that at “Happy Tuesday Announcement from Periwinkle & Stinky.” In addition to those C0Es, I am thankful for receiving two others: one for a photo of Kizmet, which you can see at “Krazy Kitten Kizmet’s Toesies & Tailio“and one for a post remembering Giulietta, “Thankful for 11 Years.”

Finally, we are, of course, thankful for your support, following and friendship. It means the world to us.

If you’d like to join the Thankful Thursday blog hop, enter the URL for Brian’s blog in your browser and pop on over to his blog.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

I must apologize to our wonderful friends, Teddy and Angel Sammy (Two Spoiled Cats), for not writing a poem today. I may try to have one for you and them tomorrow, but I am not making any promises. Along with kitten caregiving, I have three additional projects in the works. But please do not let the lack of my writing a poem stop you from visiting Two Spoiled Cats. Angel Sammy is a masterful poet, and his poems are always worth reading. Click on his badge to visit now.

See y’all tomorrow.

6TH ANNIVERSARY OF ANGELS ALLIE & MAU

Caturday Art

Though these two precious and purrfect angels cannot be with us today, except in our hearts and memories, we would never miss wishing them a happy anniversary. They will be loved and remembered always by their families and many others.

My art today is a collage with some special memories. I’ve done many collages for Mau and Allie, but a few of today’s photos may be new to you. The one of them in The Lady Allie swan boat from Cat Scouts is an all-time favorite of mine.

angels anniversary: collage with sledding photo, space photo, duck boat, wedding and formal portrait of tuxedo cat and birman cat.

I miss these two everyday, and I know Allie’s mom, Sharon, does as well. I suspect some others of you also miss them.

Cooper Murphy made a lovely cake for Mau and Allie and, of course, we have champagne.

Please join us in celebrating and remembering our special angel wife and husband. If you were not following us when these two tied the knot at Cat Scouts, you can check out their wedding at “A Grand Affair.”

I did create a jigsaw for all who enjoy puzzling.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

We have had quite a week of celebrations and milestones. So, Kitties Blue are ready for a nice easy Sunday, but first one of them will need to step up, snap a selfie and takeover tomorrow’s hosting duties. No clue as to which of them it might me. We sincerely hope many of you will take selfies as well and participate in our hop. You know how much we and all your other friends enjoy seeing your precious faces.

Until then, please celebrate with us and enjoy your Caturday.
