THREE PEEKING CATS

Feline/Flashback Friday

Without any new photos to share with you, I dug way back into my photo archives. This photo is from October 4, 2012. It features Fiona, Lisbeth and Giulietta. I think it is a good accompaniment to this week’s Looking Back post, “Cats in High Places.” If you missed checking out that post, click on the link. I guarantee you will enjoy it.

Lisbeth and our two angels will be participating in the Feline Friday blog hop at messymimi’s meanderings. To participate click on the Feline Friday badge.

Friendly Fill-Ins

Time again to let you know a bit more about Kitties Blue and myself by completing the weekly fill-ins. Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Lorianne (Four-Legged Furballs) host the Friendly Fill-Ins blog hop. On Thursday they each select two sentences to be filled in by hop participants, and you can find those on both blogs. Enter the hop by clicking on the graphic.

I got some help with filling in from both Stinky and Sawyer. And even the one fill-in I did is about Sawyer. He is the most helpful of all the Kitties Blue when it comes to the Friendly Fill-ins. We all used teal italics, and additional info is in parentheses.

1. Stinky: Having adventures with Periwinkle is always super fun.

2. Sawyer: Did you know that I like treats?

3. I know how scary it is when Sawyer has a seizure all too well.

4. Sawyer: I can’t explain why I don’t like the medicine Mom and Dad put in my noms. (One of them is even tuna flavored!)

Thanks for dropping in to see us. We’ll be back again tomorrow with some Caturday Art.

FLASHBACK ANGEL ART

Special Birthday Wishes

Today a very special lady is celebrating her birthday: Mom Sharon from Friends Furever. We all love her dearly and wish her the best day filled with lots of kitty love.

As our original star baker, Angel Mau, was Sharon’s son-in-law, I asked him to bake a special cake for her.

If you have the opportunity, please stop by Friends Furever and wish Sharon a happy birthday.

Thank You

Dad Tom and I and all the Kitties Blue want to thank each of you who left us a kind and caring comment on our post about Giulietta gaining her angel wings. I will begin replying to each comment personally tomorrow.

If you missed that post, the link to it is at the bottom of this one.

I made this puzzle of the special collage I did for Giulietta. I hope those of you who enjoy working the jigsaw puzzles will enjoy it.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Our little whippersnapper, Sawyer, will be here tomorrow to host our weekly Sunday Selfies blog hop. He asked me to invite you to join him by sharing your selfie with us and all your friends. Hope to see you tomorrow.

THANKFUL FOR 11 YEARS

Giulietta (March 18, 2010 – October 10, 2021)

When Giulietta shared her selfie with you on Sunday, both she and I knew it would be her last. At the time, however, we weren’t prepared to share or accept that fact.

When I adopted this ball of floof on May 7, 2010, she and her sister were just seven weeks old. They were undoubtedly the cutest kittens I’d ever seen. We nicknamed them Tribble and Trouble, after the Star Trek episode, ‘The Trouble with Tribbles.” At the time, I had no idea neither would stay in our lives for such a short time. Fiona left us at age six on December 1, 2016, which seems like only a minute ago. And now, at just age 11, Giulietta has been reunited with her sister.

Giulietta had been lethargic for a few days. Being a low-energy cat and somewhat reclusive since losing her sister, we were not immediately concerned. Then Dad Tom noticed her tongue looked white. Finding her gums were white as well, we took her for a check-up on October 7. She was anemic and after blood work, we were given a preliminary diagnosis of large cell lymphocytic leukemia. We didn’t know the vet Giulietta saw, but he didn’t think she was critical. His plan was to refer her to the Vet School at Virginia Tech. We agreed and brought Giulietta home.

The following morning she was having trouble breathing, and we went back to our vet’s office. She was given some oxygen, and we brought her home again with oral steroids and antibiotics. It was obvious, however, that she was quickly going downhill and in pain. I contacted our wonderful, semi-retired, long-time vet, Dr. Kathie Neel.

Saying Good-Bye

On Sunday morning, Dr. Neel came to the house and helped Giulietta join her beloved sister, Fiona. It was all ridiculously sudden, and neither Dad Tom nor I were prepared to lose her. But it was the right thing to do, and she passed peacefully in my arms.  Yesterday, Dad Tom and I placed her to rest in a spot in the garden not too far from Mau. I will be making a unique marker for her and will share a photo when it is in place.

Here is a special collage of our beautiful girl.

Thankful Thursday

Eleven years with Giulietta was not nearly enough. She was a sweet and precious girl, and like her sister, her life was too short. But we are so thankful for the time we had together. She will be remembered lovingly and stay in our hearts always.

UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

Sparks

After Cooper Murphy bit my hand on Saturday, I started thinking about unconditional love. I knew he didn’t do it to hurt me. He just wanted to get my attention and let me know he didn’t want me to stop brushing and giving him scritches. It’s not the first time he’s bitten me, and I never get mad at him. I love him unconditionally, which is what prompted today’s Spark.

unconditional love

Growing up, my sister and I did not receive unconditional love from our parents. They always had expectations they expected us to meet. I was always a little better at this than my sister, as she was seven years older, and I learned a lot from her mistakes. And we were exceptionally fortunate our paternal grandparents did give us that unconditional love.

The Bite

As I said, it’s not the first time Cooper has bitten me. I’ve always expected it’s what got him abandoned in the snow by his previous family. This is the first time, however, I needed antibiotics for one of his bites. I suspect I reacted so badly, as this is the exact spot where Sawyer gifted me with a bite when I grabbed him to bring him home.

Sparks is the creation of Annie from McGuffy’s Reader. Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend. Annie stated when she began Sparks, “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world.”

The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky

Tomorrow is our favorite day of the week, as it’s when Periwinkle and Stinky, share an adventure. They’ll be taking off from here tomorrow for this week’s adventure, which promises to be oodles of fun. These two fun-loving tabbies really, really hope you will join tham.

TAKING CARE OF EACH OTHER & THANKS FROM GIULIETTA

This quote from Harvey Fierstein represents my feelings exactly. During these uncertain times, supporting and being there for each other is even more important!

If you are unfamiliar with Fierstein, here’s some information from Wikipedia. Harvey Forbes Fierstein is a 65-year-old, American actor, playwright, and voice actor. He’s best known for his roles as Frank Hillard in Mrs. Doubtfire and the voice of Yao in Mulan and Mulan II. Fierstein won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for his own play Torch Song Trilogy and the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for playing Edna Turnblad in Hairspray. He also wrote the book for the musical La Cage aux Folles, for which he won the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical, and the book for the Tony Award-winning Kinky Boots. He was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2007.

Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend, Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). Annie is taking a “break” from blogging, so there is no hop. Many of us still continue to post a Spark on Monday, as we believe in Annie’s vision: “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!”

Awww Mondays/Thank You

Giulietta is back today to say, “thank you,” for the kind birthday wishes yesterday. She’s a bit miffed with me, as I did not mention that it was, of course, Angel Fiona’s birthday as well. She may have her wings, but Fiona has never left our hearts, so I must acknowledge that she too would have turned ten on the 18th. It still breaks my heart that she had such a short life.

Giulietta is joining the Awww Mondays blog hop at Comedy Plus. To join her click on the badge below.

The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky

Tomorrow, our favorite tabbies, Periwinkle & Stinky, will be off on another adventure. It will be posted at Friends Furever, and I really hope you will visit and support this fun-loving duo.

GIULIETTA TURNS NINE

Happy Birthday

Today Giulietta celebrates her ninth birthday, as does her sister, Angel Fiona. These sisters were the most adorable kittens and the best of friends. They were inseparable right up until Fiona flew off to the Rainbow Bridge. It breaks our hearts that Fiona isn’t here to celebrate with Giulietta. We suspect the other ten Kitties Blue at the RB will be hosting a huge party for her.

As Monday is when we share an inspirational Spark, Giulietta is presenting it.

As animals are known for giving unconditional love to their humans, this Spark seemed purrfect for today’s celebratory post.

Giulietta received this lovely card from Pipo, Dalton, Benji and their petcretary, Ingrid (Meezer’s Mews and Terrieristical Woofs) and sends her thanks to them.

Please join us in celebrating. Mau baked a cake in his Cat Scouts Bake Shop, and we have pink champagne.

Happy Birthday Giulietta and Angel Fiona

We love you both!

Sparks

I have used a quote from Brian Tracy previously for a Spark. If you missed it and do not know who Brian Tracy is, check out this post, “A Spark of Gratitude from Sawyer.”

Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend, Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). Annie has been taking a “break” from blogging, so there is no hop. Unfortunately, during this break, Annie has been the victim of a hacker. This has continued to keep her off-line and caused her much distress. Kitties Blue and I ask for your continued prayers for Annie and her family as they try to reconcile this mess and get their lives back to normal.

Many of us believe in Annie’s vision: “If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!”

RARE GIULIETTA SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #183

When Mom told me I had to take the selfie and host the hop this week, I was not amused. I am not inclined to show-off, especially as I no longer have my sisfur by my side. In fact, I am really an introvert. I spend almost everyday in my hidey hole. In fact that’s where I took my selfie.

Giulietta's Sunday Selfie

I stuck my paw out and snapped my selfie while frowning at Mom. She did say that you all will enjoy seeing my feeties, even without the toe beans.

Saying Good-Bye

We all are nursing our hurting hearts as we remember and honor Mr. Jack Freckles (Meezer’s Mews and Terrieristical Woofs) today. We really loved that woofie. His health had been fragile for a very long time, but he and his fursibs always joined us for Sunday Selfies. MJF earned his wings last Monday, February 5.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Jack Freckles. You were and will remain loved forever.

If you have not had the opportunity to leave your condolences for MJF’s family, click on the link above.

We just found out that we lost another dear friend, just yesterday. Sister Kit from Brian’s Home is the latest Crotchety Cougar to get her wings and fly off to the Bridge. If you haven’t done so already, please visit Brian’s Home and leave your condolences. We will honor Sister Kit on next Sunday’s blog hop.

Blog Hop

If you are new to hopping or to Sunday Selfies, here are some simple guidelines. If you are a regular, skip over this part.

  • The link to add your selfie to the hop is below.
  • You also will find below the code to use if you’d like the hop to appear on your blog.
  • Posting on Sundays is not necessary to join.
  • You do not need to be a cat to enter. All anipals are welcome regardless of species.
  • The hop remains open for entries through Thursday midnight.
  • Please be so kind as to display our badge and/or link to The Cat on My Head.

Thanks for joining in the fun. It is raining here, so we’ll be snuggled in with Mom watching the Olympics today. How about you? Do you have a favorite winter sport? I think I’d like to try Slopestyle snowboarding. My feeties are so big, I probably wouldn’t need the board.

Thanks for joining us.

Purrs and paw-pats, Giulietta

GIULIETTA REMEMBERS FIONA

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Giulietta Remembers Fiona.

Until

I miss you each day.
Until we meet in heaven,
The pain will remain.

© Giulietta Blue 11/01/17

Eleven months ago, I lost my sisfur, Fiona. I still miss her as do Mom and Dad. She was beautiful and special, so I decided to remember her today with this little haiku. I don’t think I need more words to describe exactly how I feel.

The prompt letter this week for our poem was, “U.” That’s one tough letter with few good words from which to select. Because of that, I selected one of the prompt words. The words for this week are: 1) Ugly, 2) Under, 3) Uncle and 4) Until.

We are joining Teddy and Angel Sammy’s Thoroughly Poetic Thursday. To read Sammy’s poem, which he transmits from the Bridge each week, and find links to other poems, click on the badge below.

Thankful Thursday

As we also do each Thursday, I am joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday blog hop. I am thankful everyday that I had six years with my sisfur. We all have wonderful memories of her. To join the blog hop, click on Brian’s badge below.

SISTERS’ GOTCHA DAY CELEBRATED IN ART

Caturday Art

Last week baby Lisbeth had the spotlight for our Caturday Art. At the time she told you it was close to the date of our Gotcha Day in 2011. Well we popped up on Dad’s Facebook page yesterday, the 13th…our official Gotcha Day. We don’t really celebrate our Gotcha Day, as Mom and Dad know the date of our birthday. Mom decided, however, she would use that photo of us for today’s art.

Astrid and Lisbeth's Gotcha Day celebrated with Caturday Art.

We are not sure what we think of this. Lisbeth looks totally evil. Even though she isn’t always the sweetest of cats, this creation definitely doesn’t do her any favors. I think maybe Mom should have totally gone Halloween with this and given Lisbeth a witch’s hat, but I had no say in the matter.

To create this “art,” if you can call it that, Mom used Pixlr, piZap and Picasa. I’ll admit she didn’t have the best photo to start.

Gotcha Day - October 13, 2011.

Neither of us look very happy, or we were extremely exhausted. And check out those ears!  We both are very happy to have grown into them.

We are entering Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s Caturday Art blog hop. To join and/or find links to other art creations, click on Athena’s badge.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Yep…it’s almost time to slap a smile on your face and snap a selfie for tomorrow’s hop. Who will be stalked, bribed or bamboozled into being your host is anybody’s guess.

We were delighted to see so many back on the hop last week. Mom didn’t do a very good job of taking us visiting last week, but life is settling down around here, and we are getting back on track. Thanks for being so patient with us.

Purrs and paw-pats, Astrid

MEETINGS, RULES, LEARNING & NIPHEADS

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #65

We are back with this week’s Friendly Fill-Ins. Mom completed numbers 1, 2 and 4, and we kitties completed number 3. We think she did a pretty good job this time around, and we totally agree with all her completions. As always, we (Mom and us) used teal italics for our portions of the sentences.

Usually, Mom has long, drawn-out explanations along with her filled-in portions, but they really were not necessary today.

1. Meetings are boring unless they are meetings with friends for lunch.

2. Rules suck but are necessary or our lives, those of others, our society and the world would sink into chaos. It already may be there!

3. The best time to get treats and/or nip is when Chris comes to clean the house. She is not stingy like our parents. As soon as she arrives, we all gather around her.

Lisbeth and Astrid wallow in nip for the Friendly Fill-ins post.

4. I have learned that if I remain open to new information and ideas, I will never stop learning.

Friendly Fill-Ins is a blog hop hosted each Friday by Ellen (15AndMeowing) and Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). Each week Ellen selects the first two incomplete sentences and Annie selects the second two. The hop is on Annie’s blog, which you can get to by clicking on the fill-ins badge.

If you haven’t participated previously in this fun hop, give it a try. It is an excellent way to learn a bit more about your blogging friends.

Coming Up

Mom will be here tomorrow with what is sure to be some wild and crazy art for the Caturday Art blog hop.

We also hope to announce the winner of the $80 rescue/shelter donation from Allie and Mau’s Anniversary Comment-a-thon. An alternate winner was selected using Random.org as the original winner did not respond to our e-mails.

Our Sunday Selfies blog hop this week will be dedicated to a dear friend and new angel, Mitalee HoneyBee, from Critters in the Cottage. Please make a special effort to join us and honor this sweet and beautiful angel.

Until then, we remain your faithful friends.

Purrs and paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy

p.s. Will you please continue too send your purrs and POTP and ask your humans to pray for Allie and Raz’s dad, Bill, who remains hospitalized.
