Sparks
After Cooper Murphy bit my hand on Saturday, I started thinking about unconditional love. I knew he didn’t do it to hurt me. He just wanted to get my attention and let me know he didn’t want me to stop brushing and giving him scritches. It’s not the first time he’s bitten me, and I never get mad at him. I love him unconditionally, which is what prompted today’s Spark.
Growing up, my sister and I did not receive unconditional love from our parents. They always had expectations they expected us to meet. I was always a little better at this than my sister, as she was seven years older, and I learned a lot from her mistakes. And we were exceptionally fortunate our paternal grandparents did give us that unconditional love.
The Bite
As I said, it’s not the first time Cooper has bitten me. I’ve always expected it’s what got him abandoned in the snow by his previous family. This is the first time, however, I needed antibiotics for one of his bites. I suspect I reacted so badly, as this is the exact spot where Sawyer gifted me with a bite when I grabbed him to bring him home.
Sparks is the creation of Annie from McGuffy’s Reader. Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend. Annie stated when she began Sparks, “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world.”

The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky
Tomorrow is our favorite day of the week, as it’s when Periwinkle and Stinky, share an adventure. They’ll be taking off from here tomorrow for this week’s adventure, which promises to be oodles of fun. These two fun-loving tabbies really, really hope you will join tham.
unconditional love – The Cat On My Head is an original and beautiful love story that is perfect for fans of Haruki Murakami and contemporary fiction.
Ouch! Heal fast – I’m glad you were quick about getting antibiotics. Keep an eye on it until you are sure the meds are greatly bringing down the infection.
That is a great spark. I am sorry you needed antibiotics, but glad you got them- hope you heal quickly. XO
That looks painful. Chris bites me all the time but almost never hard enough to draw blood. I call them love bites. Frankie bites less often but a little harder than Chris but they are still love bites too because he only does it when I am petting him and he is purring. We had a cat years ago, Sneakers, who would bite hard after he had enough petting. Those were not love bites and we had to be careful not to pet him too long.
Love Bites are something I accept, but at times are beyond enduring. Every night Gidget climbs into bed with me for her time. With so many cats, I am just one person trying to give too many their fair share of my time. With Gidget, it’s bedtime. She is semi feral, so she’s always been skittish. But she picked this time to hang out with me. She is impossible to handle, so her claws are always in need of clipping. She scratches if I’m not fast enough to pull my hand while she flails around, wanting to be pet. And then the love bites start. They aren’t actual bites, but teeny tiny bites where she pierces a smidge of skin…that hurts like the devil. Repeated nips makes me feel abused. I know this is her way of being affection, so I endure until I’m done and shoo her off. Your bite is evidence that Cooper Murphy is very blessed to be your fur child.
We hope you heal up quickly. The picture of Cooper makes him look very thoughtful.
My doctor just automatically updates my tetanus shots though none of mine are chronic biters.
Ouch! Hopefully your hand heals quickly. We’re trying to teach the new kittens to not bite. They moderate each others’ biting during play, but we have to give a stern “no” or occasionally a finger tap on their mouth when they bite our legs or feet. They can bite their toys all they want!
My that is a bad bite but love it unconditional. Einstein does the same thing but does not break the skin. He got the one finger tap of his nose when he was little if he bit too hard like other cats will do to teach and he learned. Poor Cooper probably did not get that lesson
I’m glad you got the antibiotics and I hope your hand heals quickly. Good spark!
That is a really good Spark and we sure hope your hand heals up quickly.
My Cooper Murphy bit you? Looks painful. I know you’re not mad at him and I wouldn’t be either.
Love the Spark.
Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Scritches all around, a smooch to Cooper Murphy and a hug to mom. ♥
That really is unconditional love. I guess with cats, you can’t teach them not to do that(?) May your poor hand heal quickly. I’ve been bitten by cats I’ve groomed, and I know how much worse it is than a nip from a dog. (Which is why I no longer groom cats.)
Purrs for quick healing. We know Cooper Murphy didn’t mean to hurt you. We’re glad you had your hand looked at and got antibiotics.
The Florida Furkids with love and paw pats and headbonks to Sawyer from Noelle. Periwinkle can’t wait for tomorrow!
I am so sorry that happened. I know he didn’t mean it in anger but the result is hard to deal with. I am not surprise at all that you feel the same unconditional love as you always have. That is who you are.
Ouch! Teddy gets “fired up” with a brushing sometimes – becomes a little manic and has been known to take a swipe at me – so far I’m fast enough to avoid any stabbing. I think when they love being brushed and “tended to” they get a little wound up and maybe overstimulated and VOILA – good old Mom is the target. Anyway, hope the hand is better with the antibiotics. Cooper – Teddy says BE EXTRA SWEET TO MOM! Love your SPARK as unconditional love is so important but sometimes hard to find.
Love, Pam
Yes, we do love our beloved family members and no matter the circumstances, the love continues…we forgive and get going again.
That sure is one ouchie looking hand. Hope the antibiotics do the trick.
POTP for good healing.
WOW. Did a doc see it? You may need antibiotics but mama would not know because hers swelled up to twice that and started up her arm…but yes, it was accidental completely. I simply do not bite, ever except for love nips when bathing THEM. So sorry for your hand.
