Happy Tuesday

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CCII

Meow Like a Pirate Day

When Periwinkle comes tumbling from the teleportation tunnel with the usual whoosh, Stinky greets her with a huge paw hug and an, “Ahoy, matey.” Periwinkle begins to giggle and clap her paws together.

“Oh, Stinky, I was hoping we’d be celebrating Meow Like a Pirate Day. It is such a fun holiday.”

“How could we miss it? Do you think all our readers know that is how you and I got our names?”

“Some may not. You should tell them.”

“Yes, of course,” replies Stinky. “Well, our names were actually our alteregos’, Noelle and Sawyer’s, pirate names. I could not find the reference to Periwinkle, but Sawyer’s pirate name was Captain Stinky One-Eyed Biggs.”

Periwinkle giggles. “That really is a silly name, Stinky. I like that I have a pretty name.”

“You should. It matches your beauty and sweet personality.”

Periwinkle blushes and gives Stinky another big paw hug and a whisker kiss. She then asks him what he has planned for today.

Whydah Gally

Stinky tells her that they are going to West Yarmouth, Massachusetts, to learn about the only authenticated and positively identified pirate ship, the Whydah Gally, which sank off the coast of Wellfleet, MA, on April 26, 1717.

“Wow, Stinky, that sounds really cool. Let’s get going,” says Periwinkle, as she takes his paw and leads him into the teleportation tunnel.”

When they arrive at their destination, the Whydah Pirate Museum, Periwinkle squeals with delight when she sees two of the pirates outside the museum. “Stinky, they look so real. Let’s get our photo with them.”

When they enter the museum, Periwinkle begins looking around for the actual ship. When Stinky sees her quizzical expression, he tells  Periwinkle that the ship is still at the bottom of the ocean where it was discovered 30-feet below the surface in 1984 by the shipwreck salvager and underwater archaeological adventurer, Barry Clifford. It is currently buried under 10 to 50 feet of sand, in depths ranging from 16 to 30 feet deep. It’s spread for four miles, parallel to Cape Cod’s easternmost coast.

“Well, phooey. I thought we were going to get to see and board the ship, Stinky.”

“I’m sorry Periwinkle, we will get to see a model and then a replica of the ship, which we can board.”

“I guess that’s okay. Let’s go see that model, while you tell me about it.”

Model of the Whydah Gally

“The Whydah Gally was built in 1715 as a slave ship. It was on its maiden voyage when it was hijacked by the pirate, Samuel “Black Sam” Bellamy, shortly after leaving Jamaica where it had traded and sold 500 slaves from Africa, gold, ivory and jewelry. The ship was carrying precious metals, sugar, indigo, rum, logwood, pimento, ginger and medicinal ingredients back to England when Bellamy hijacked it. Bellamy and his crew used the Whydah to pirate additional ships. The Whydah had the treasure of 53 other ships on board when it sunk.”

Bellamy is best known as the wealthiest pirate in recorded history, and one of the faces of the Golden Age of Piracy.

Sinking of the Whydah

“How did it sink, Stinky?” Periwinkle asks.

“The 100-foot, 300-ton, 28-gun Whydah encountered a Nor’easter with 70 mile per hour winds causing ocean swells of up to 30 feet. Though, the captain and crew were within sight of land, they were unable to navigate in the storm and slammed into a sandbar stern first. The ship broke apart and all but two of the 145 men and one child aboard died. The two survivors were Welsh carpenter, Thomas Davis, and the ship’s pilot, 16-year-old Miskito Indian, John Julian. Julian was sold as a slave to John Quincey, the great-grandfather of president John Quincy Adams after the ship sunk.”

“Even though they were pirates, Stinky, that’s still pretty sad that only two people lived,” exclaims Periwinkle.

“The ship was carrying four and a half tons of stolen treasure. According to cartographer and commander of the Bay Colony’s naval militia, Cyprian Southack, at least 200 men plundered the ship of its bounty, including 180 bags of gold and silver.”

“Holy cow, Stinky, that’s a lot of money. Can we check out some of the artifacts here at the museum?”

“Sure, let’s check out some of the loot found aboard by Clifford.”

Items from the Whydah

“Stinky, think of all the stinky goodness and treats and toys we could buy with that money,” exclaims Periwinkle.

“I’m surprised I didn’t think of that Periwinkle.”

“Hey, Stinky, let’s check out that anchor.”

“I did not intend for you to climb on it, Stinky. Please get down,” Periwinkle requests. Stinky grudgingly obliges, and the tabbies move to the next exhibit.

They check out the bell from the ship, discovered by Clifford in 1985. It is inscribed, “The Whydah Galley 1716.”

The recovered bell from the Whydah Gally.

“Periwinkle, let’s check out some of the cannons and the ship’s replica.”

“Are you going to climb on the cannons Stinky?” Periwinkle asks.

Stinky giggles and replies, “Probably.” Periwinkle rolls her eyes.

“Stinky, you can be such a troublemaker. One of these days you are going to get us kicked out of wherever we are visiting.”

“Maybe so, but until I do, I am going to keep having fun,” Stinky replies.

Once again, Periwinkle rolls her eyes. Then she grabs Stinky’s paw and pulls him down. They spend some time exploring The Whydah’s replica.

Concretion

When they exit The Whydah replica, Periwinkle spies a large and very strange looking object. She asks Stinky if he knows what it is? Having no idea, Stinky takes Periwinkle’s paw and leads her to the object.

“Periwinkle, the sign says, that this is part of a 3,500 pound concretion. Items encased in this mass of hardened sand and stone include human remains, plus what appear to be a pistol, cuff links, a belt and additional personal items. Taken from the wreck site several years ago, everything inside was protected over the centuries until conservationists started removing the material, and that is when they discovered the bones.”

“That’s cool and creepy at the same time,” says Periwinkle. She adds, “I don’t know about you, Stinky, but my paws are getting pretty tired, and my tummy is growling.”

“Aargh, Periwinkle, I think we should head back to my house and plunder ourselves some grub and grog!”

“Stinky, you are so silly, but I totally agree.”

Home Again

After a quick trip in the teleportation tunnel, the tabbies arrive at Stinky’s House. Stinky’s mom fixes them a snack, and they retire to the catio to enjoy the nice weather and visit with Stinky’s fursibs. Periwinkle tells them all how sorry she is about Misty May getting her angel wings. They all thank her for her consideration.

After their snack, it’s time for Periwinkle to return home. Before she leaves, Stinky tells her that they have shared just a small amount about The Whydah Gally and Samuel “Black Sam” Bellamy. He explains that a Google search of either The Whydah or Bellamy will bring up oodles of websites with additional information that their readers might find interesting.

Finally, it is time for Periwinkle to return home. She tells Stinky how much she enjoyed this unique Meow Like a Pirate Day adventure. She and Stinky share lots of whisker kisses and paw hugs. Then Periwinkle enters the tunnel, and with the usual wave, blown kiss and whoosh, she is gone. Stinky retires to the bedroom to nap and dream of his love, Periwinkle.

The End

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CC

A Celebration for Periwinkle

Stinky is ready when Periwinkle comes tumbling from the teleportation tunnel right into his waiting paws. Once she rights herself, her mouth falls open as she sees the room is filled with balloons. Being a smart cookie, Periwinkle asks, “Are these for me for my birthday?” Stinky blushes, says “yes,” and then apologizes for himself and Sawyer missing her and Noelle’s birthdays on September 1. Periwinkle throws her arms around his neck and gives him a big hug and whisker kiss. “Stinky, this is so much better than an online or snail mail card.”

Still embarrassed, Stinky tells her that he can tell time but hasn’t quite figured out the calendar and relies on his mom to remind him of important dates, and he is pretty certain Periwinkle knows that her track record has been pitiful lately.

“Stinky, please stop apologizing, it’s okay. Now, let’s get this party started. I assume there is a party.”

“Yes, of course, but you need to put on your tiara first,” Stinky replies.

“Periwinkle, the main reason for our celebration today is your birthday. But we also have something else to celebrate.”

“Oh, goodie, two things to celebrate. What is it, Stinky?”

200 Adventures

“This is our 200th adventure. That is nearly four years of adventuring,” Stinky tells Periwinkle.

“Wow, that is a really big deal. I sure have had a lot of fun on all those adventures and hope we can have at least 200 more!”

“Me too, Periwinkle!”

“So, what are we doing to celebrate?” asks Periwinkle.

In reply, Stinky takes Periwinkle’s paw and leads her outside. Once again, she is amazed by what is awaiting her, “Stinky, this is beautiful,” Periwinkle exclaims. “Did you do all this for me?”

Lunch in the Garden

“Well, I did have some help from my mom.”

Periwinkle throws her paws around Stinky’s neck and gives him a hug. “You are so romantic, Stinky!”

Periwinkle Stinky birthday 200 adventures: Two cartoon tabby cats sitting at a fancy table in a field surrounds by candles and Periwinkle plants.

“I love all the Periwinkle plants,” says Periwinkle.

“Soon, you’ll be able to run through an entire field of them. Mom and Dad are having a huge portion of our side yard planted with periwinkles.”

“Is that just for me, Stinky?”

“I am not sure about that. It may be just one of those happy coincidences,” Stinky tells her. He then asks Periwinkle if she is ready for lunch? She tells him, “yes,” and asks what they are having. Without telling her, Stinky motions to his mom to bring out their plates: a shrimp cocktail to share as well as steak and lobster tails.

The two tabbies immediately dig into their meals and do not speak until they have eaten every morsel and licked their plates clean.

“Stinky, that was so delicious. I am absolutely stuffed.”

“Me too, but I do hope you have saved room for cake. Cooper Murphy has baked two beautiful ones for us.”

“Two cakes, why two?” asks Periwinkle.

“One for your birthday and one in celebration of our 200 adventures.”

Nap Time

“Stinky, I don’t think I could eat another bite right now. What would you think about having a little nap first?” Stinky tells Periwinkle that he thinks a nap is a wonderful idea. The two tabbies return to the house and curl up in the bed Noelle gifted Sawyer for Christmas 2022.

Birthday Cards

When Periwinkle and Stinky wake up they return to their table outside where Stinky has some cards for Periwinkle. He tells her that she has to click on each one to see it. He also tells her that the first one is just for fun!

“Stinky, those were so much fun. We need to make more for other occasions.” Stinky agrees with her and promises they will.

Cakes

Finally it is time for cakes, and Cooper Murphy delivers the ones he has baked.

Periwinkle claps her paws together when she sees the cakes and then gives Cooper Murphy a huge hug. “Thank you, Cooper, these are so beautiful. You have become a masterful baker.”

Cooper thanks Periwinkle for the compliments and cuts both tabbies huge slices from each cake. He asks if it is okay for him to take slices to all the Kitties Blue. Periwinkle and Stinky tell him to please do so.

After finishing their cake and helping each other lick the frosting from their faces, Periwinkle asks to visit with all the Kitties Blue and Stinky’s parents. Periwinkle also takes a few minutes to thank Stinky’s mom and Cooper Murphy for the parts they played in making today so wonderful.

Saying Good-Bye

Finally it is time for Periwinkle to depart. She tells Stinky, “Thank you for such a beautiful and thoughtful celebration. I loved every moment of it. I am so happy you are my boyfriend.” She then adds, “Would it be okay for me to take my tiara home as well as some cake for my mom, Noelle and Reesie?” Stinky hands her a box. “Cooper Murphy has already wrapped up some of both cakes for you to take home, and, of course, you may keep your tiara.”

Periwinkle and Stinky spend several more minutes whisker kissing, paw hugging and whispering, “I love you,” to each other. Then with tears in her eyes, Periwinkle enters the teleportation tunnel, blows Stinky a final kiss and is gone in a whoosh.

As he always does, Stinky heads to the catio for a nap and dreams of Periwinkle.

🌻 THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CXCVIII 🌻

Take Your Cat to the Vet Day

Stinky has planned a nice quiet adventure for today and is looking forward to Periwinkle’s arrival. When he hears the familiar whoosh from the tunnel, he sprints to its opening and is ready to catch Periwinkle when she comes tumbling out. They spend several minutes whisker kissing, paw hugging and catching up on the occurrences of the past week.

Stinky is ready when Periwinkle asks what the plan is for the day, but he doesn’t tell her immediately. First he tells her that they have a PSA. “Today is National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day. Actually Misty May is going to the vet today, as she has some kind of growth on her left eye. Mom says that she’ll keep everyone posted after she is seen,” Stinky tells Periwinkle.

“I am so sorry to hear about Misty May,” Periwinkle says.

“Thanks, Periwinkle. I am certain not every cat will be going to the vet today, but it is a good reminder for people with cats needing check-ups to call and get an appointment. You and I are definitely lucky that we never have to see a vet.”

Be An Angel Day

Stinky continues, “It is also Be an Angel Day. My mom thought we could have an adventure where you and I shared all the angels from both our homes with our readers. I thought that was a great idea, but with the huge gathering of cats we had two weeks ago, I thought that would just be too much. So I planned something for just the two of us.”

“Stinky, I like the way you think! So, what’s the plan?”

“Let’s hop back into the teleportation tunnel. We are not going too far, so it will be a quick trip, and you can see what I have planned.” The tabbies do just that, and moments later arrive at their destination.

Beaver Dam Farm – Buchanan, VA

Periwinkle Stinky sunflowers: field of sunflowers

When Periwinkle sees what is stretching out in front of them, she is unable to speak, which rarely happens. She finally regains her voice and says, “Stinky, I have never seen so many sunflowers. This is beautiful! Where are we?”

“This is Beaver Dam Farm in Buchanan, Virginia. Every year they have a Sunflower Festival. It was started in 2016 to help diversify the Beaver Dam Farm dairy income. This year’s festival is from September 8 to 18. I asked if we could come early, so we wouldn’t be trampled on by all the people who come to the festival every year.”

“It’s really cloudy, Stinky. Do you think it’s going to rain?” asks Periwinkle.

“No, it’s supposed to clear up,” Stinky tells her. “I see you have found a sunflower for your furs. You look lovely. ”

“Thanks,” says Periwinkle and gives Stinky a kiss on the cheek.

Stinky takes her paw and leads her into the flower field.

“Stinky, look, they have corn planted among the sunflowers. I wonder why they do that?”

Planting Corn and Sunflowers Together

Stinky tells Periwinkle, “I noticed that in some of the photos my dad has taken here in past years, and looked up the reason: Sunflowers attract ladybugs, which eat aphids, fruit flies, mites and other insects that plague corn. Both the corn and sunflowers produce chemicals that increase corn production and enhance the taste. In addition, the roots of the corn plants can go after and utilize nutrients and water deeper in the soil than any other crop. The sunflowers take advantage of these root channels and follow them to extend further into the soil to find even more nutrients and water.”

“Thanks, Stinky, that is very interesting, and I can always depend on you to do the research for our adventures,” Periwinkle tells him.

Getting Up Close

“Look, Periwinkle, I’m almost as tall as this sunflower.”

“Stinky, you climbed the stalk didn’t you? You better be careful. I am not certain that stalk can support you.” Stinky jumps down before the sunflower bends over and dumps him on the ground.

“Stinky will you boost me up so I can get close to the flowers like you did?” Stinky helps periwinkle climb up on his shoulders.

“Thank you, Stinky. My head is almost as big as this sunflower.”

“Stinky, this really is wonderful to get to enjoy these happy flowers out in the fields and fresh air.”

“I totally agree, Periwinkle. We always have sunflowers in our yard every summer, as the birds drop the seeds everywhere. Unfortunately, unless they are in the window box or the containers where Dad grows herbs and his peppers, the groundhogs eat them.”

“That is too bad, Stinky.”

Periwinkle Stinky sunflowers: large sunflower in foreground with field of sunflowers behind.

“Stinky, it sure would be nice if we could each take a flower home to our moms.”

“We can, Periwinkle. The owners of the farm have one for each of us.”

Periwinkle Stinky sunflowers: Two cartoon tabby cats in front of a field of sunflowers and each holding a sunflower

“It looks as if the fog and clouds are returning, so I guess it is time to return to my house, Periwinkle. I don’t know about you, but I could use a snack.”

“Me too, Stinky!” Periwinkle and Stinky reenter their tunnel for the trip to Stinky’s house.

At Home

When they return to Stinky’s house, he gives his mom the sunflower, and she fixes a snack for the two tabbies. When they finish, they go out to the catio to visit with Stinky’s fursibs. While on the catio, Periwinkle notices not only a sunflower in the yard but also a bunny. Can we visit with the bunny?” Periwinkle asks.

Stinky tells her, “of course,” and leads Periwinkle to the yard. The two cats spend a few minutes visiting with the bunny.

Periwinkle Stinky sunflowers: Two cartoon tabby cats, a live bunny and a live sunflower.

Then it is time for Periwinkle to head home with her sunflower for Mom Sharon. Stinky leads her to the tunnel. They share whisker kisses and paw hugs, and with a wave and a blown kiss, Periwinkle is gone in a whoosh.

Stinky returns to the catio for a nap with the other Kitties Blue as well as dreams of Periwinkle.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CXCVI

A Surprise for Periwinkle

Stinky is super excited for Periwinkle’s arrival. He thinks this is going to be one of their best adventures ever. When Periwinkle arrives, he quickly gives her a whisker kiss and paw hug and then ushers her back into the teleportation tunnel before she can ask any questions. Moments later they arrive at their destination. Stinky tells Periwinkle to put her paws over her eyes before exiting the tunnel.

When she opens her eyes, Periwinkle immediately recognizes where they are. “Stinky, we’ve been here before, when we went on our Mill Mountain adventure and again when we visited the Mill Mountain Zoo. Are we going to visit the animals again?” she asks.

“Not today. But we are going to have a visit with some special animals,” Stinky tells her.

International Cat Day Celebration

“Whatever do you mean?” asks Periwinkle. Stinky tells Periwinkle to turn around. When she does, she exclaims, “Oh my gosh, Stinky, where did all these other cats come from?”

International Cat Day: Twenty-one cats gather under a sign reading, International Cat Day Celebration 2023 and in front of two bicycle sculptures.

Stinky explains that it is International Cat Day, and he has invited some of their friends from other countries to join them in a picnic featuring foods from their countries.

“Stinky, what an amazingly fabulous idea. Who all is here?”

“I hope I can get this right…here goes. From the Netherlands we have Peachy and Stippie. Caspurr, Trixie and Shimshi are joining us from Israel. From the UK, we have Athena and Erin and the entire B Team (Amber, Smooch, Parsley, Pandora, Fudge, Melvyn). Toulouse, Sienna, Miranda and Jack are here from New Zealand. Loulou is joining us from France. From Switzerland, Pixie and Zorro are here, and our North American neighbor, BellaDharma, is here from Canada.”

“Stinky, I will never be able to remember all their names,” bemoans Periwinkle. “And, I don’t speak any foreign languages.”

Stinky replies, “I wanted to get nametags for everyone, but I was worried they’d lose too much fur when they removed them. You don’t have to worry about what language to speak. I am fairly certain everyone can meow in English; though, in some cases we may not understand because of their accents. But stop worrying, we are all here to have fun and enjoy some noms from our various countries. I expect our mouths will be too full to do a lot of talking.”

Periwinkle leans toward Stinky and whispers in his ear, “Do you think our U.S friends will be upset we did not invite them to the party?”

Stinky replies, “I certainly hope not. We’ll just have to cross our paws that doesn’t happen.”

Periwinkle nods and decides to stop worrying and just enjoy herself. As all the kitties wait for the noms to be delivered, they visit with each other and do some sightseeing.

The Roanoke Star

First stop is Roanoke’s famous neon star.

Sign with information about the Roanoke (Mill Mountain Star) in Roanoke, Virginia.

Stinky reads the sign to everybody and then giggles when he realizes the star and his mom are the same age. Periwinkle gives him a quizzical look, but he just winks at her and suggests they all have their photo with the star.

International Cat Day: Twenty-one cats and two cartoon tabby cats gather beneath the neon Roanoke Star.

Roanoke Valley Overlook

When they finish with the photo, they head to the overlook to check out the view of the Roanoke Valley and pose for another photo.

Periwinkle is happy Stinky has decided to behave himself and has not climbed on anything. She panics, however, when Pixie and Shimshi jump up on the railing. She politely asks them to get down. They agree to do so right after their photo is taken.

Mill Mountain Zoo Photo Op

Stinky tells the gang he wants to show them the Mill Mountain Zoo, that he and Periwinkle visited in a previous adventure. He says that they do not have time to visit today, but he and Periwinkle hope each of them will return for a visit there in the future.

They all agree that they’d like to return another time to visit the zoo.

After their photo at the zoo entrance, the felines head toward the spot Stinky has selected for their picnic. It is nice and shady; though, the day is very warm. Stinky is just happy that the really, really bad storms of the past few days have moved on.

What’s for Lunch?

Stinky tells Periwinkle, “I asked each individual or cat family to bring a dish from their country to add to our picnic.”

“That sounds cool. I usually like trying new things,” she replies.

Stinky asks Miranda what the Dash Kitten Crew has contributed. She tells him she has brought two dishes, Southland Cheese Rolls, also known as Southland Sushi, which consist of a slice of bread with cheese rolled up like sushi with a generous helping of butter and then grilled. They’ve also brought Paua fritters, which are made from edible sea snails, also known as abalone.

Next, Periwinkle asks Pixie what she and Zorro have brought from Switzerland. Zorro tells the tabbies, he and Pixie have Rösti, a kind of potato cake that can be combined with almost any ingredient. Their Rosti is prepared with smoked salmon.

Next up are the J-Cats from Israel. They too have two contributions: Rugelach (one of Stinky’s mom’s favorites) and Limonada, fresh lemonade spiked with mint.

Next Loulou presents what she has brought from France: Bouillabaisse and Creme Brûlée.

Erin steps forward with Fish and Chips. And Athena has brought Shepherd’s Pie.

By this time, Stinky’s mouth is watering, and Periwinkle hands him a napkin to wipe his chin.

Peachy and Stippie present their offerings from the Netherlands: Bitterballen, croquette-type snacks created from thickened meat stew, rolled in breadcrumbs and deep fried; and fresh herring filets.

Finally, it is BellsDharma’s turn. “I bet you thought I would bring Poutine, but I didn’t. I have Sushi pizza. It consists of a fried rice patty topped with salmon, tuna, crab, avocado slices and spicy mayonnaise. I left off the soy-wasabi sauce, as I think that would be too hot for us.”

“Wow, this is going to be quite a feast,” says Periwinkle, and the asks, “What did we bring Stinky?”

“Some traditional American fare, hamburgers and hot dogs,” replies Stinky.

“Wow, Stinky, I sure hope everyone is hungry. This is quite a feast,” exclaims Periwinkle.

All the cats gather together to lay out the blankets Stinky has brought to sit on. When they’ve finished, the felines fill their plates and pick spots to enjoy their meals and conversation with their friends.

After all the kitties have had seconds, and in some cases thirds, and cleaned up the area, they agree it is time for a nap. They all settle down for a nice rest.

Time to say, “Good-Bye”

Unfortunately, once everyone is awake, it’s time to say, “good-bye.” The felines spend quite a long time hugging, exchanging recipes and promising to keep in touch. And everyone agrees they would like to make this an annual event.

Finally, the individuals and families head to their teleportation tunnels for trips home to their own countries. Periwinkle and Stinky make certain all their friends are off safely before entering their tunnel for the quick trip back to Stinky’s house.

When Periwinkle and Stinky arrive at his house, all his fursibs and Mom and Dad want to hear about the day, and the tabbies animatedly tell them all about it. When they are finished regaling them with news of the delicious food and the wonderful new friends they have made, it’s time for Periwinkle to head home. She and Stinky spend several more minutes whisker kissing and paw hugging. Then with a blown kiss and wave, Periwinkle enters her tunnel and is gone in a whoosh. Exhausted, Stinky heads to the bedroom where sleeps until the following morning.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CXCII

Stinky is busy gathering supplies for today’s “adventure” when he hears rumbling from the teleportation tunnel and scampers to the foyer to catch Periwinkle as she tumbles out with the familiar whoosh. She is giggling and throws her paws around Stinky’s neck. She gives him a big whisker kiss and, as usual, asks, “What is the plan for today’s adventure?”

“I hope you won’t be disappointed, but we are staying right here. It is so dang hot, I really don’t feel like going anywhere,” Stinky replies.

“Are we just going to hang out on the catio?”

“Nope, I do have a project for us. We are going to make something for our moms.”

“Cool, what is it?”

All American Pet Photo Day

Stinky explains that today is All American Pet Photo Day, and since they are all-American cats, he wants to make some scrapbook pages for their moms with some of their favorite photos of themselves and their alter egos, Noelle and Sawyer. Stinky tells Periwinkle, “I know my mom posted some scrapbook pages previously, but it was two years ago when I was on my walkabout. So I know we have lots of other photos from more recent adventures.”

Periwinkle treplies, “I think that is a great idea for such a hot day. Let’s get to work.”

“Thanks for understanding. You can use my mom’s laptop to select photos you want to use, and I will use the iPad. I have them set up on the kitchen island.”

Periwinkle and Stinky head to the kitchen and get busy selecting photos and creating their scrapbook pages. They chatter as they work, telling each other about their week.

Scrapbook Pages

When they each have finished three pages, the tabbies take turns sharing with each other. Stinky lets Periwinkle go first.

Scrapbook page with multiple photos of cartoon tabby cats.

“That is really pretty, Periwinkle, and I your photo selections are purrfect,” exclaims Stinky. “Now it’s my turn.”

“What wonderful times we have had together, Stinky. I know I am looking forward to lots more adventures. I think this was purrfect for All American Pet Photo Day. Is it time for a snack?”

“Yep. Let me clear off the island.”

“Excellent selections. When we finish, we can share some with your fursibs.”

After their snack, Periwinkle and Stinky take treats to the catio to share, and Periwinkle visits with Stinky’s family. Unfortunately, after that, it is time for Periwinkle to head home. The two tabbies spend a very long time paw hugging and whisker kissing before Periwinkle enters the teleportation tunnel. As she enters, the two blow each other a kiss, and she is gone in a whoosh.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CXC

Periwinkle is quite curious about today’s adventure. Stinky asked her to get to his house before the sun comes up. Not being a fan of missing out on her beauty sleep, she groaned when she got his text. But not wanting to miss out on spending the day with Stinky, she does as he asked.

Stinky is waiting with open paws when she comes tumbling from the teleportation tunnel with the usual whoosh. After a brief whisker kiss and paw hug, Stinky leads her back into the tunnel. Moments later, they arrive at their destination.

Sunrise

Immediately Periwinkle sees why Stinky wanted her to arrive so early at his house. The sun is just coming up over the mountain.

The sun coming up behind a mountain with a swinging bridge in the foreground.

“Stinky, this is breathtaking. Where are we?”

“That is Grandfather Mountain in the distance. It is 5,946 feet above northwest North Carolina and is part of the United Nations’ Southern Appalachian Biosphere Reserve. The mountain is estimated to be 300 million years old, and certain rock formations date back 1.2 billion years.”

Mile High Swinging Bridge

“Wow,” is all Periwinkle can say. Stinky asks her is she would like to go across the Mile High Swinging Bridge, as it will give them a 360-degree panoramic view. She declines but asks Stinky to tell her about it.

“Well, it is America’s highest suspension bridge. It is more than one mile in elevation, in other words 5,280 feet above sea level, and is 228-feet long. The chasm below is 80 feet.”

“Yep, I definitely don’t want to go out on it,” says Periwinkle.

Stinky takes Periwinkle’s paw as if to drag her toward the Bridge. She swats him away, and he grabs her in a big hug. He whispers to her that he’d never force her to do anything.

Stinky continues to tell Periwinkle about the bridge. “The original bridge cost $15,000 to construct and was fabricated in Greensboro. It was erected atop the mountain, which took three weeks. It was dedicated in 1952 and rebuilt in 1999. The rebuild used its original towers. Galvanized steel was used to replace the flooring, cables and side rails. The cost to rebuild it was $300,000. Unlike the original bridge, this one swings very little due to its improved construction. It does, however, sing—somewhat like a harmonica.”

The thought of that makes Periwinkle giggle.

Exploring Grandfather Mountain

The tabbies spend the next few hours exploring the area.

Stinky has to do a little climbing, and Periwinkle, as usual, admonishes him to be careful.

“Stinky, look how gorgeous these rhododendrons are. I wish we could pick some to take home to our moms.”

“That would definitely get us in trouble. We have some blooming at my house. They aren’t as colorful, but if you like, you can take some of those home to Mom Sharon.”

“Thanks, Stinky.”

“Oh boy, thanks for planning a picnic, Stinky. I am famished from all this hiking.”

“Me too.”

After lunch and a short nap, Periwinkle asks Stinky, “What’s next?”

“We are going to see Mildred the Bear.”

Periwinkle gives Stinky a quizzical look, as he takes her paw.

Outside the Center, Stinky and Periwinkle find Mildred the Bear.  Stinky immediately climbs up on her front leg. Periwinkle decides not to say anything and jumps on the back of one of the cubs. “Oh Stinky, I thought Mildred was going to be a real bear,” exclaims Periwinkle.

“She was at one time. Mildred was born in 1966 at the the Atlanta Zoo. Two years later, Mildred needed a home in the wilderness and was brought to Grandfather Mountain to help increase the black bear population. She came with a male bear, but the moment he was released he disappeared. Mildred lived to age 26 and during that time birthed her own cubs as well as cared for orphaned cubs.”

“That is very cool, Stinky.”

“There is a lot more to the story. If our readers would like to read about Mildred, they can check out the website, Only in Our State, or read the book, Mildred the Bear, by Hugh Morton.

“Let’s go inside, Stinky.”

“Good idea. There is loads to see here, but it’s about time for us to head home. My dad, however, who has been here before, told me about something we should see. This is part of the Fauna Wall, which shows the diversity of species in the area with bird sculptures and animal imagery.

Clockwise from upper left corner: Rose Breasted Grosbeak, Wood Thrush, Eastern Screech Owl and Downy Woodpecker.

“These are really beautiful, Stinky. I don’t know if we have these birds in Florida, as I have never seen them around my house.”

“I have seen woodpeckers at my house, but I don’t know about the others, As I said, there is lots to see here. Our readers can find a list at Grandfather/Wilson Center.

Heading Home

“So, Periwinkle, it does seem to be time to head home,” says Stinky, as he takes her paw and leads her to the teleportation tunnel. Moments later they arrive at Stinky’s house. After a quick visit with Stinky’s fursibs and parents, Stinky and Periwinkle head to the yard to collect some rhododendron flowers for Mom Sharon. Finally, it is time for Periwinkle to head back to her house. She and Stinky spend several minutes paw hugging and whisker kissing before Periwinkle enters the tunnel. And then with a wave and a whoosh she is gone.

Stinky heads to the catio to nap and dream of Periwinkle.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CLXXXIX

Periwinkle’s Arrival

Stinky is super excited for today’s adventure, especially as he and Periwinkle didn’t have one last week. He’s bouncing around the foyer waiting for Periwinkle’s arrival when she comes tumbling out of the teleportation tunnel. Before she can say a word, Stinky grabs her paw and leads her back into the tunnel for a quick trip to downtown Roanoke. When they arrive, Periwinkle is breathless from the quick turn-around. She is finally able to ask Stinky, “Where are we?”

The Virginia Museum of Transportation

“This is The Virginia Museum of Transportation, and we are going to visit the Queen of Steam,” Stinky replies.

Periwinkle gives him a quizzical look, to which Stinky does not respond. He just takes her paw and leads her through the building to the railroad tracks behind. That is when Periwinkle sees what he is referring to, and her mouth falls open in awe. ”Holy cow, Stinky, I think that is the biggest thing I have ever seen.”

The Queen of Steam

“That is the Norfolk & Western (N&W) Class J 611 Steam Locomotive, which was built here in the N&Ws East End Shops 73 years ago. It originally carried passenger cars between Norfolk, Virginia, and Cincinnati, Ohio, and also ferried the Southern Railway’s (SOU) passenger trains between Lynchburg, Virginia, and Bristol, Tennessee. The 611 has been in Pennsylvania for the past four years. It arrived back in Roanoke just 10 days ago,” Stinky explains.

A Tour & a Few Facts

As they walk toward the locomotive, Stinky tells Periwinkle that of the 14 J Class locomotives built between 1940 and 1950, the 611 is the only one still in existence. It was first retired from service in 1959. All the others were taken out of service in 1958 and 1959, as the railroad began to experiment with diesel-fueled locomotives. Upon retirement, the 611 was donated to the Museum.

In 1982, J611 was restored to operation by the Norfolk Southern Railway (NS), N&W’s successor. It became the main line star of the NS steam program. It pulled excursion trains throughout the eastern United States.

“Wow, Stinky,  these wheels are huge. How much do you think the locomotive weighs? It must be a lot if it needs such huge wheels.”

“Just the locomotive weighs 494,000 pounds which is equivalent to 224.1 tons,” Stinky tells Periwinkle.

“That number is so big, I find it incomprehensible,” replies Periwinkle

“Come on, Periwinkle, let’s check out the front.”

“Stinky,  do you really think it is okay for us to climb up here?”

“These are actually steps behind us, and I don’t see any signs telling us we can’t,” Stinky tells Periwinkle. He also tells here that the streamlined appearance was designed by N&W Tool Supervisor, Franklin C. Noel.

The tabbies hop down after a few minutes to check out the inside of the locomotive.

Periwinkle starts to get nervous when she sees Stinky eyeing the controls. “Don’t you dare touch those. You do not know how to drive a train, and I am certain that would get us in trouble,” Periwinkle admonishes Stinky. She then asks him how fast the locomotive can go? Stinky tells her that the maximum speed is 80 to 110 miles per hour.

Restoration & Excursions

Stinky explains that the 611 was retired again in late 1994, when NS ended its steam program. But, in early 2013, the Museum helped raise $3.5 million from 3,000 donors to once again restore J611 to operating condition. After a year of restoration work at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, North Carolina, the locomotive returned to excursion service in mid-2015.

In 2017, the Virginia General Assembly designated the 611, also known as the Spirit of Virginia, as the official state steam locomotive. In 2019 and 2021-2023, No. 611 visited the Strasburg Rail Road (SRC) in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, running short tourist excursion trains in the Pennsylvania Dutch countryside.

“I don’t know if the 611 is now back in Roanoke permanently, but the plan is to begin offering excursions again later this summer. If that happens, I know my parents would want to take one,” Stinky tells Periwinkle.

“Oh, so would I,” replies Periwinkle.

“Okay, I promise to watch for news of any scheduled trips,” Stinky tells her.

Other Railway Cars at the Museum

“Stinky, can we check out a few of these other train cars?” asks Periwinkle.

“Sure, where do you want to start?”

Periwinkle points to a green passenger car.

“Periwinkle, did you know that politicians used to take trains when they were campaigning. These trips were called ‘whistle stop tours.’ The politician would make a series of quick appearances or speeches at small town railway stations over a short period of time. They would stand on the platform above us and give their campaign speech.”

“That is super interesting, Stinky. Let’s go check out that caboose next,” suggests Periwinkle.

“Stinky, why don’t most trains have cabooses anymore?”

“There are a few reasons. Trains became really long and the conductor could no longer see the entire train from the caboose. Also, ends of freight trains now are monitored by remote radio equipment called ‘End of Train’ devices, or EOTs. The small boxes fit over the rear coupler and are coupled into the train’s air brake line.”

“That sounds very technical, but I think I understand,” replies Periwinkle.

A Final Memory Photo

“Periwinkle, I am not exactly sure what this sign means, but I think it would be a fun place for a memory photo.”

“That sounds cool. Let’s do it.”

After their photo, the tabbies hop down and head to the teleportation tunnel for the return trip to Stinky’s house.

At Stinky’s House

When Periwinkle and Stinky arrive at his house, they tell his parents and fursibs all about their adventure. Then, Stinky’s mom fixes them a snack, which they enjoy on the front porch. Finally it is time for Periwinkle. to return home. The tabbies share lots of whisker kisses and paw hugs before Periwinkle enters the teleportation tunnel. Finally, with one last wave, she enters and is gone in a whoosh.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CLXXXII

A Lame Plan

Periwinkle arrives slightly early for this week’s adventure taking Stinky by surprise. He doesn’t have any time to even worry about whether or not Periwinkle will enjoy what he’s planned. Unfortunately he’s not near the tunnel when she comes tumbling out. But when he hears the whoosh, he quickly hurries to help her up.

After several whisker kisses and paw hugs, Stinky asks, “Periwinkle, did you know that today is National Pet Day?”

“No, I didn’t. Are we going to spend the day petting each other and your fursibs?”

“No, and celebrating it isn’t what I originally planned, but my mom said what I wanted to do is lame.”

“What was that Stinky?” asks Periwinkle.

“I had colored some Easter eggs and asked one of our resident bunnies to hide them for us to find,” explains Stinky.

“I think that would have been fun Stinky, but if we aren’t going to do that, what is the plan?”

National Pet Day

“National Pet Day is an annual event celebrating all of our friends with fur, fins and feathers. I thought we could give our friends some ideas of how to spend it. We’ll concentrate on cat activities, as you and I are felines,” Stinky explains.

“Oh, I think that is an excellent idea! Can I go first?”

“Of course,” replies Stinky.

Treat Time

“This is especially for you and my brofur, Raz. Pet parents can give their cat a few extras of his favorite treat, but they shouldn’t let him help himself. He might hork. I know both you and Raz have helped yourselves on more than one occasion.”

“Periwinkle, I am certain I have never done that,” exclaims Stinky.

“Then what is this?” asks Periwinkle showing him the evidence.

“I’m certain those fell off the counter all on their own,” argues Stinky. Periwinkle just rolls her eyes.

“Periwinkle, how about getting your cat some fresh or dried catnip?”

“That’s a good one, Stinky. Let’s see if Astrid will share some of her’s with us!”

“I think we’re going to have to sneak some while she’s looking away, Periwinkle.”

Play Time

“Spending additional time today playing with your cat is another good idea,” suggests Stinky. Your human can throw your favorite mousie or other toy for you to retrieve. Mau liked doing that,” Stinky tells Periwinkle. The red dot (laser) toy and wand toy are fun as well. One of our favorite toys at my house is a bird that hangs from an elastic cord in the doorway. Raleigh particularly likes to play with it.”

“Hey, Raleigh, give us a turn,” Periwinkle shouts. Raleigh totally ignores them.

TV Watching

“That really does look like fun, Stinky. You know, lots of cats like to watch TV. I know there are lots of shows on about animals that any cat would enjoy. Here’s a few: The Zoo from Inside, My Pack Life, The Aquarium and Too Cute Cats. All are on Discovery+. World’s Funniest Animals is on The CW, and Animal Clips is on National Geographic. There are dozens of others.”

“They also should check out Animal Planet as well as YouTube and Instagram,” says Stinky. “Also, my sisfur, Kizmet, enjoys sports shows with lots of movement and balls, like volleyball, basketball and soccer. She even enjoys Paralympic tennis.”

Grey cat sitting with paws outstretched and resting on the television while it watches Paralympic tennis.

“Stinky, I can see that Kizmet actually has her eyes right on the ball. That is so cool! I bet lots of other cats would enjoy sports as well.”

Going Outside

“Some cats like to go for a walk on a leash or a ride in a stroller. That would be fun for our readers who live in places where spring has actually arrived. And both Misty May and Kizmet have gone for bike rides with our dad,” adds Stinky.

“Stinky, Kizmet just invited me to go with her for a stroller ride.”

“That’s cool. Can I come too?”

“Nope, this is just for girls,” Periwinkle replies.

“Wow, Stinky, that was really fun. You need to try it sometime. I’m sorry we left you out today.”

Video Games

“I guess it’s okay, Periwinkle. I did come up with another idea while you were gone. There are fun video games for cats, like Mouse for Cats, Cat Fishing 2 and Cat Fishing Simulator.”

“I saw your mom’s post, ‘Can Cat’s Cooperate,’ from yesterday with Cooper Murphy, Astrid and Audrey playing Mouse for Cats. It really looked like fun. Hey, Stinky, it looks like Cooper is playing now. Maybe he’ll let me join him.”

“Cooper Murphy appears to have fallen asleep. Come play with me, Stinky.”

“I think we should finish our list first and then we can do whatever you want,” Stinky replies.

“You’re right,” Periwinkle tells him.

“I have a sort of silly idea, Periwinkle. Some animals really love snuggling down into warm laundry, like my sisfur, Calista Jo. Humans could do a load of laundry today so their kitty could curl up when it comes out of the dryer nice and warm.”

“She sure does look warm and snuggly. But, you know, Stinky, the very best thing pet parents can do today is spend time snuggling and cuddling their cat if s/he enjoys that. And look, Misty May is in your dad’s lap right now. I think you should join her.”

Cuddle Time

“Good idea,” Stinky tells Periwinkle before joining Misty May.

“Stinky, I think we came up with some really great ideas, but I know humans can come up with lots more.”

“I agree, Periwinkle, and they can even help animals that don’t have homes by donating money, food litter or toys to their local shelter.”

“Stinky, I think that’s the best suggestion of all.”

“And after pet parents do some nice things for their animals, they can treat themselves. It’s Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s.”

Periwinkle giggles and gives Stinky a big paw hug before the two head to the kitchen for some of those extra treats.

Finally it is time for Periwinkle to head home. The two tabbies spend several minutes cuddling and whisker kissing. Then Periwinkle enters the teleportation tunnel and with a wave and whoosh is gone. As he always does, Stinky heads for a cozy spot to nap and dream of his beautiful girlfriend.

The End

Periwinkle and Stinky will be heading over to Comedy Plus to join in the Happy Tuesday blog hop.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CLXXX

Periwinkle’s Arrival

Stinky is waiting by the teleportation tunnel for Periwinkle’s arrival and hopping from paw to paw. He is certain Periwinkle will enjoy today’s adventure. She is right on time, and Stinky is ready to catch her as the tunnel pitches her out with its usual whoosh. She’s giggling when he catches her, and they share several whisker kisses. Without giving Periwinkle the opportunity to ask what they’ll be doing, Stinky leads her back into the tunnel.

All American Circus

Minutes later they arrive at their destination, and Stinky leads Periwinkle inside the National Guard Armory in Greenfield, Indiana. When she sees what awaits her, her eyes grow big and she begins clapping and bouncing up and down. “Oh, Stinky, is this what I think it is?” She asks. “I have always wanted to go to a circus!”

“I knew you would like this,” exclaims Stinky. He then explains the reason for the visit today.

“We are at the All American Circus. They are one a few circuses in operation. However, today in 1881 the Greatest Show On Earth was formed by P. T. Barnum and James Anthony Bailey. The Barnum and Bailey circus closed in May 2017, so we are seeing another circus performance. However, I just learned this morning that the Greatest Show on Earth is returning after a six-year hiatus. They will begin touring, with an all human show, in September. I definitely will take us to see that as well. After all, who wouldn’t want to see the Greatest Show on Earth. We will have to wait a little while, as that circus will be in Florida in January of 2024 and in North Carolina the following month. It doesn’t have any dates for Virginia.”

“That sounds like a wonderful plan, Stinky. It will give us something to look forward to.”

Before taking their seats, the tabbies get a big tub of popcorn and some bottles of water. Stinky convinces Periwinkle not to get any cotton candy, as she would end up with her furs all stuck together. Just thinking about how that would look makes both tabbies giggle.

Meeting the Ring Mistress

Once they find their seats, the Ring Mistress comes over to meet them and give them the opportunity to take a photo with her.

Periwinkle gushes, “Stinky, I think it is so cool that a female has the most important job of this circus. It’s usually a man leading the show.”

Stinky replies, “My mom is always reminding me how much things have changed since she was a girl and how many opportunities are now available for females.”

Rosales Family

As soon as the met and greet is completes, the Ring Mistress introduces the first act, The Rosales Family. They present a juggling performance and some cool feats of balance. Stinky is invited to join in one of the balancing acts.

Periwinkle can hardly believe how brave Stinky is. Though, he is always climbing things, this is much more difficult. When he returns to his seat, Stinky cannot stop smiling. Periwinkle gives him a big hug and congratulates him on his bravery.

Corde Lisse Aerial Acrobatics

Next the tabbies enjoy some aerial acrobatics on the corde lisse (smooth rope in English). Periwinkle watches with her mouth open. “Wow, Stinky, I wish I could wear pretty costumes and do those tricks,” Periwinkle exclaims.

Stinky gives her a wide-eyed look and asks, “Do you think you’d like to join the circus?”

“Oh no, I wouldn’t enjoy all that traveling, but I do like to dress up in pretty things. I probably would hork, though, if I did all that twirling.” Periwinkle tells him. They both giggle as they imagine Periwinkle’s lunch landing on the audience.

Ladder Artist

Next up is the ladder artist who displays amazing feats of balance and dexterity.

He invites Stinky to join him on the ladder, but when Stinky sees the knife in the performer’s mouth, he declines. Periwinkle is relieved when Stinky uses his common sense.

Rola Bola

The next act up is the Rola Bola. It is another balancing act. This one is atop towering cylinders.

The performer is really cute, and when he asks Periwinkle to join him, she is tempted. “Periwinkle, if you get injured, you know your mom will be really upset and probably blame me. I don’t think it’s a very good idea,” says Stinky.

“You’re right, Stinky, and it does look pretty scary!”

Globe Of Death

The final act of the show is the Globe of Death with two motorcycle riders speeding around inside a steel, globe-shaped cage. Both Periwinkle and Stinky decide they don’t want to watch an act that has the word death it.

So, while that is happening, they meet the Rosales Family and have a memory photo taken.

After the photo and a visit with Carmen, Jorge and their children, it is time for Periwinkle and Stinky to head back to their tunnel. They hold paws and enter together. With the familiar whoosh, they are on their way back to Stinky’s house.

Snack Time

Though they did eat a lot of popcorn, the tabbies decide they still need a snack and enjoy it on the front porch.

After their snack and a quick visit with Stinky’s fursibs and mom and dad, it’s time for Periwinkle to head home. The tabbies spend several minutes paw hugging and whisker kissing. Then with blown kisses and waves, Periwinkle enters the teleportation tunnel and is gone in a whoosh.

Stinky retires to the catio to nap and dream of his sweet Periwinkle.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CLXXVI

Train Trip

Stinky is anxious for Periwinkle’s arrival so they can get started on today’s adventure. They will be making a whistle-stop tour around Stinky’s home state of Virginia. When he hears the familiar whoosh from the teleportation tunnel he is waiting with open paws to intercept Periwinkle. After some whisker kissing and paw hugs, Stinky takes Periwinkle’s paw and leads her back into the tunnel for a a very quick trip to the train station in downtown Roanoke.

When they arrive at the station and Periwinkle sees what Stinky has planned, she claps her paws together & exclaims, “Oh goody, a train trip. This is so exciting.”

“I hope our friends will think so,” says Stinky.

“Why wouldn’t they?” asks Periwinkle.

USA/World Spay Day

“Well, because they aren’t coming along. You know, Periwinkle, those who adventure with us are well aware of how important it is to spay and neuter their pets and companion animals as well as feral cats living in colonies. And last year, over on your blog, we did a special PSA for USA/World Spay Day. In fact, if our followers want to read more about it, they can click on the link to that post.  So, while we are busy spreading the word around my state, we are going to give our readers the opportunity to revisit some of our favorite past adventures from my blog.”

“I like the idea that I get to spend the day with you riding on a train, so I hope our readers won’t mind that they won’t actually be joining us today,” replies Periwinkle.

“Periwinkle why don’t you select a favorite adventure first,” says Stinky.

Tea Party

“That’s easy. I loved the Tea Party you had for me on June 8, 2020!”

(To visit any of the past adventures, click on the photos.)

“That was a great adventure, Periwinkle. I got to invite some of the woodland creatures who hang out in our yard.”

“I loved meeting all of them. They were so kind to me.”

Double Date with Tyebe and Cooper Murphy

“I really enjoyed our trip to Sandstone Falls in West Virginia on March 30, 2021, when we went hiking, fishing and picnicking with Cooper Murphy and his girlfriend Tyebe.”

“That was great. It’s fun to include friends in our adventures occasionally; though, I do prefer when it is just the two of us,” Periwinkle tells Stinky.

Tortola, BVI

“Stinky, visiting your parents favorite vacation spot on Tortola in the British Virgin Islands on May 10, 2022, was one of the most exciting and romantic adventures ever! I’d like to visit there again.”

“It really is beautiful there, Periwinkle. We can definitely go back sometime,” Stinky tells her.

Eagles

“Our trip on the James River on April 27, 2021, to visit the Eagles was one of my all time favorites,” Stinky tells Periwinkle.

“Oh, Stinky, me too. We were so lucky they liked us and didn’t try to eat us for their lunch!”

Preparing for Thanksgiving

“My turn again, Stinky. I had so much fun when we went to Mau’s Bake Shop on November 26, 2019, and he helped us make Thanksgiving pies, and we made you a Gotcha Day Cake.”

“That was a great one, as Mau was still with us then. And I really liked my cake,” replies Stinky.

“Those really were great adventures, Periwinkle. I hope our friends had fun revisiting them.”

“I sure know I did, Stinky. We have had so many great adventures…176 to be exact! And I am happy we were able to remind everyone how important it is to spay and neuter their pets.”

“It looks like it’s time to return to my house for a snack and a visit with all my fursibs.”

“Sounds good to me, Stinky,” replies Periwinkle.

After a snack, visit and quick nap, it is time for Periwinkle to return home. She and Stinky spend several minutes whisker kissing and paw hugging. With a final wave, Periwinkle hops into the teleportation tunnel for the trip home.

Stinky heads to the bedroom for a nap already thinking about seeing Periwinkle next Tuesday.
