Periwinkle’s Arrival
Stinky is delighted when he hears the familiar whoosh from the teleportation tunnel, and Periwinkle comes tumbling out into his waiting paws. She is always right on time for their adventures, and today is no exception. The two, as usual, spend several minutes paw hugging, whisker kissing and catching up on the week’s events.
“Stinky, I was so sorry to hear about the awful seizure last Tuesday. But your furs look amazing after all that furminating your mom did,” says Periwinkle.
“Thanks, I guess. I don’t remember anything for which I am super thankful. I do feel much lighter and cooler, though,” Stinky replies.
“Do you have a plan for today?” asks Periwinkle.
World Pet Memorial Day
“Yes, today is World Pet Memorial Day, established by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) as a day when humans can memorialize their pets that have gone to the Rainbow Bridge. I know we celebrated it last year and in 2021, so I didn’t know if that would be something you would want to do again.”

“That would be okay with me. I know last year we made scrapbook pages with our angel family members, so maybe we can do something different this year,” replies Periwinkle.
“I agree,” says Stinky. “What do you think if we go to our cottage and come up with a plan for our backyard that remembers everybody.”
“Oh, Stinky, I think that’s a terrific idea. Let’s go.” Periwinkle grabs Stinky’s paw and leads him back into the teleportation tunnel for the quick trip to their cottage.
“Stinky, I love spending time here. It is so beautiful and the flowers are so fragrant.”

“I agree. It is special! Do you have any ideas on how we can display all our angel fursibs for World Pet Memorial Day?” Stinky asks Periwinkle.
“Let’s go out in the garden and see if we can come up with an idea,” Periwinkle suggests.
The Cottage Garden
When they arrive in the backyard, Stinky tells Periwinkle, “I was thinking we could do something like totem poles with several photos to a pole, but I think we have too many angels for that. Do you have any ideas, Periwinkle?”
“How about if we hang their photos from the tree. I think they would all fit. How many angels are there?”
“Let’s see. Astrid asked if we could include her husband Sampy, and Lisbeth wants her boyfriend Charles to be included. I know you will want to include Cousin Trooper. I think we better get their photos and manually count them.”
“Good idea,” replies Periwinkle. “I’ll get them.” She sprints into the cottage to grab the photos she left by the teleportation tunnel.
When she returns, they take turns counting to make certain they have everybody.
“This looks like everybody. We have 24 angels and 23 photos, as Allie and Mau are together in one photo. What would you think if we strung some colored lights from the branches, and then we could attach the photos to the light strings?” asks Stinky.
“Brilliant, let’s do that!”
World Pet Memorial Day Tree of Angels
The tabbies get busy stringing the lights, which, of course, gives Stinky the opportunity to climb the tree. (He doesn’t tell Periwinkle that he had a seizure Monday night, as he knows she will make him stay on the ground.) Once the lights are in place, they hang all the photos. Then, the tabbies stand back to check out the finished product.
“Oh, Stinky, look, some of our anipal friends have joined us. That is so cool.”

“This looks great. I sure hope it doesn’t rain,” adds Periwinkle.
“I promise that it won’t. This garden is magical,” Stinky assures Periwinkle.
Stinky and Periwinkle decide they should identify all the angels for their readers. Top Row: Madison, Thelma, Tamir, Charles, Cousin Trooper, Raz, Twinkle, Misty May and Cubby. Bottom Row: Clifford, Lily Olivia, Skooter, Ellie, Fiona, Mau & Allie, Louise, Giulietta, Chloe, MacKenzie, Sniffie, Steamer, Sampy and Daphne.
“What would you think of having a picnic out here, so we can admire what we have accomplished?” Periwinkle asks Stinky.
“That’s a great idea. I’ll get our blanket and set it up while you raid the pantry,” replies Stinky.
Picnic Time
“Stinky, I found some treats, but we really don’t have much else.”
“Yippee, my favorite thing,” exclaims Stinky!

“It looks as if our little anipals are beggars as well,” comments Periwinkle.
“It’s okay to give them a few cat treats as a snack, and we do have plenty,” Stinky tells Periwinkle.
“Well, okay, just a few.”
When the tabbies finish their snack, Periwinkle asks, “Are we heading back to your house now?”
“Actually, no. I am pretty tired, so I thought we could stay over until tomorrow. My mom already asked Mom Sharon if it would be okay and she said, ‘yes.'”
“Stinky, that is purrfect. I’d love to stay over. I know hanging all the lights and photos was sort of difficult, but you do seem more tired than usual. Is something wrong?” Periwinkle asks.
Stinky hangs his head and whispers, “I had another seizure last night.”
Periwinkle gathers Stinky up in a huge hug, as tears leak from her eyes. “Oh no! I am so sorry. It wasn’t even a week since your last one. That just is not fair. What did the vet tell your mom about your phenobarbital levels?”
“Nothing. She didn’t call Mom yesterday like she was supposed to. Mom’s pretty ticked off. I suspect she will have straightened things out by the time we get home tomorrow,” replies Stinky.
Periwinkle tells Stinky that she will clean up all the picnic stuff and that he should go into the cottage and go to bed. She will meet him there once everything is put away.
Bed Time

When Periwinkle gets to the bedroom, Stinky is already tucked into bed. As she crawls into bed next to him, she notices something new has been added to their room. “Stinky, did you hang that photo of my mom on the wall.”
“I did, I thought you would like it.”
“Oh, I do. You were so sweet to do that for me. But tomorrow, let’s move it to another room and hang one of the two of us instead,” replies Periwinkle.
“Okay, I like that idea. Thanks for taking such good care of me Periwinkle. I love you.”
“I love you too, Stinky. Good night.”
“Good night Periwinkle.”
The tabbies give each other a whisker kiss and hug and fall asleep in each other’s arms.

Gosh that was a very special spot for a picnic with all the Angels from your two families. There are a whole lot of other Angel friends who watched you all have a lovely “family picnic” too and they are also always watching over you two as you have fun together!!!
