FURRY YARD FRIEND HOSTS SELFIES

Sunday Selfies: Week #298

Welcome to the Sunday Selfies blog hop. I visit Kitties Blue yard often to eat sunflower seeds and plants. It’s an honor to be asked to host this week’s hop! I hope you don’t mind that I only took a profile selfie.

Besides the hop, some other things are going on today, and the Blue crew asked me to share these with you prior to inviting you to hop.

Purrs & Prayers Please

A very dear friend is in the hospital and needs prayers from the humans, purrs from all the kitties and POTP from all our anipal friends.

It hurts our hearts that Dad Terry’s heart is hurting, and we really want him to get better quickly and rejoin his family.

Remembering Zoey

Dearest Ann from Zoolatry made the badge above for Terry. But Ann also needs our purrs and prayers as she grieves for her unique and beautiful Zoey who received her wings and flew off to the bridge on April 18.

Zoey was a frequent participant in our Sunday Selfies Hop. Run free sweet girl. We will miss you.

We are fairly certain all of you have left your condolences for Ann, but if not, please click Zoey’s photo.

Hopping Time

Okie dokie…it’s finally time to share your selfies and hop with us. Your friends and all the Kitties Blue look forward to seeing your smiling faces each week. You don’t even need to post on Sunday to join us, so please add your link below.

Remember to keep your families safe and healthy. That nasty virus is still infecting and killing people, and we do not want any of you to lose your precious human(s). And we don’t want to lose any friends.

FOODIE SELFIES: GOT LUNCH?

Sunday Selfies: Week #257

Prior to sharing two selfies of myself, I have two confessions to make.

  1. Dad Tom helped me with my selfies.
  2. In spite of what you see in my selfies, I am a hit-and-miss eater. I usually eat better for Dad than I do Mom. He claims it’s all in the presentation, and he does that better. Honestly, it all looks the same to me—a white bowl with a blob of some flavor of Fancy Feast laced with chicken- and/or grape-flavored medicine. If that sounds nommy to you, your taste buds must be wacky. To be honest, it all comes down to whether or not I am hungry. If I am, I’ll eat the stuff, and if I am not…well, I think you get the idea.

Anyhoo, here are my selfies.

Sunday Selfies

What do you think? I am hoping a certain young lady cat won’t be grossed out by my messy face. Maybe I can get her to help me clean up a bit.

Seizure Activity

Mom hinted in yesterday’s post that things haven’t been great for me recently. In our Thankful Thursday post, she reported that I had recovered well from my previous seizure and heat stroke and was five days seizure free. Unfortunately, I didn’t stay that way. I had a seizure on Thursday afternoon.

Mom and Dad heard a commotion on the upper deck and jumped up to investigate just as I came flying down the catio stairs. Dad grabbed me when I was halfway through the spindles about two feet from the bottom.

Luckily, it was not a gran mal so heat stroke was not a concern. And it did stop spontaneously after Mom and I were both covered in gobs of slobber. Whew…that was a close one! I did, however, cut my nose. Just adds to my tough guy image.

Everyone has been so kind and supportive, and I really appreciate each and everyone of you. I am a bit embarrassed to ask for continued purrs, prayers  and POTP, but if you have a little to spare, I could certainly us them. Thank you!

Time to Hop

We were happy to see that Linky Tools started working last week and only a couple of photos were missing. All of us Kitties Blue have our paws crossed that this week the hop will be working at 100 percent efficiency. But before you jump on board, here are those tips Mom likes to post for any newbies.

  • The link to add your selfie to the hop is below.
  • You also will find below the code to use if you’d like the hop to appear on your blog.
  • Posting on Sundays is not necessary to join.
  • You do not need to be a cat to enter. All anipals are welcome regardless of species.
  • The hop remains open for entries through Thursday midnight.
  • Please be so kind as to display our badge and/or link to The Cat on My Head.
  • Take the opportunity to visit some of the other hop-alongs and make some new friends or reconnect with some old ones.

If you are joining us for the first time, welcome! We are delighted to meet you and hope you will return often. And for all our longtime friends and purrticipants: We love you!

Purrs and paw-pats, Sawyer

SPARK FOR SAWYER

Sparks

Sparks

Sawyer is nothing if not resilient. He truly amazes us. The photo above was taken Saturday as he was recovering from a seizure and heat stroke on Friday. He hasn’t completely recovered, but he is up and walking around a bit and eating. We were able to get valium in him and his temperature back to normal at home, but he did go to our vet on Saturday for some fluids.

I absolutely do not know how this little kitty continues to bounce back; though, each time it takes him longer to recover. If only we could control his seizures but this progression is typical with his diagnosis of feline hippocampal and piriform lobe necrosis.

Dad Tom and I want to thank Teddy and Mom Pam for their Sunday Selfies post with this sweet badge for Sawyer and the request for prayers and POTP.

Teddy’s mom is an integral part of my support system, and she loves our little guy bunches. Thanks also go to all those who commented on her post and are keeping Sawyer in their prayers.

The author of today’s Spark, Steven Pressfield, is an American author of non-fiction, historical and military fiction, and screenplays. He is best known for his book, The Legend of Bagger Vance, which was made into a movie staring Matt Damon and Will Smith.

Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend, Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). Annie has been taking a “break” from blogging, so there is no hop. Unfortunately, during this break, Annie has been the victim of a hacker. This has continued to keep her off-line and caused her much distress. Please continue to send prayers to Annie and her family as they work to get their lives back to normal. And finally, the handsome and charismatic Cooper Murphy is here to join the Awww

Many of us believe in Annie’s vision: “If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!”

Awww Mondays

And finally, our precious little Sawyer is joining the Awww Mondays blog hop at Comedy Plus. To join click on the badge below.

Wishing everyone a great week.

OUR LITTLE STAR

Caturday Art

I hope no one is tired of seeing our little guy, Sawyer. He does get lots more blog time while others sit in the background. Of course, all those Kitties Blue, except Cooper Murphy, have been here since the inception of The Cat on My Head. So, he does have some catching up to do. All this is to let you know that Sawyer is back again today for Caturday Art. And he is doing what he does best—snoozing.

Caturday Art

To create the art, I began with the “Light” filter in Painnt and changed a few of its basic settings. I used piZap to add the stars and Picasa for the rose-colored vignette and border.

I am not sharing the original photo this week. It is very dark and “muddy,” which is why I used it for today’s art.

Sawyer is joining the Caturday Art blog hop hosted by Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty. This is one of our favorite hops for the opportunity it allows for creativity. To join the hop or check out some of the other arty submissions, click on Athena’s badge.

POTP Please

I know everyone continues to send purrs, prayers and POTP to our little guy, for which Dad Tom and I are grateful. Regardless, I am asking you continue to do so. Sawyer had another seizure last night, less than 48 hours after the one on Wednesday. This was a grand mal. Any seizure hurts our hearts, but these always take so much more out of him and us.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Another week has slipped right past us, and that means tomorrow is the day for you to spruce up your furs, put the sparkle in your eyes, and a cheesy grin on your face. After all, you want to look your very best in your selfie and when you hop. We love seeing all our regular and loyal supporters each week as well as any newcomers.

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

CATURDAY ART IN SILHOUETTE

Caturday Art

Today’s art features Sawyer in silhouette against the screen of the catio. He is trying to get to a squirrel (represented by a red puff ball here) on the bird feeder. The squirrel will be more evident in the original photo.

I used the Flowers effect from Painnt to create the art and added the multiply filter from the Color Composition section. I rounded the corners with Picasa.

Sawyer is joining the Caturday Art blog hop on Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s blog. If you’d like to see other art or join in with some of your own, click on Athena’s badge.

Here is the original photo.

Sawyer and I are embarrassed to continue to ask for your purrs, prayers and POTP, but he desperately needs them. He had another seizure yesterday afternoon. Little more than 60 hours had past since his previous one. The is the shortest time between any of his seizures.

Some of you have mentioned trying CBD oil to control his seizures. State law prohibits Dr. Neel from even discussing CBD oil with us. She could lose her license just for talking about it. I have investigated it a bit, but do not know how it might interact with Sawyer’s current meds. If anyone has used CBD oil and can offer first-hand accounts of how it worked for your cat, please let me know in the comments. Thank you.

Sunday Selfie Reminder

We’ll be watching the Kitten Bowl tomorrow and suspect many of you will be watching that as well as Super Bowl LIII. Before you get involved in all the celebrations and overeating, take the opportunity to snap a selfie and join our weekly blog hop. We’ve heard a rumor that your host might be Mau. This is his wife Allie’s early warning so she can be sitting down when she visits.

We look forward to seeing you.

SAWYER MAKES BAIL & SAYS, “THANKS.”

Thank You

Dear  Friends,

I am happy to report that I am home, and I am fine; though, a little wobbly when I walk. That happens when you are stuck in a cage for a day and a half. It made me realize how sad and confining life is for the kitties and pups who will be spending the holidays in a shelter somewhere. I am such a lucky kitty to have a loving and forever home.

Anyhoo, I started my new meds (Keppra) at dinner time tonight. I now am taking phenobarbital, Zonisimide and the new med. Mom and Dad are praying this will finally control my seizures.

The best news is that I don’t appear to have suffered any brain damage. One would think I had if you believe the tall tale one of the staff ladies at the Emergency Vet told Mom and Dad. She said I let her cradle me in her arms like a baby. I think she must be hallucinating. I would never allow such a thing. I did, however, let Mom hold my paw this afternoon while we napped together on the bed.

Please accept my sincere thanks for all the purrs, prayers and POTP you sent my way. They helped lots. If you have a few of each to spare, can you please use them to ask that the combo of these three medications finally stop my seizures.

Caturday Art

In appreciation of your friendship, love and support, I asked Mom to turn a new photo of me sleeping in the sphere into Caturday Art. I really hope you like it.

Thanks

Mom created this using the Hyperrealism effect from Painnt and an overlay from piZap.

This is how the art looked prior to adding the piZap overlay.

And finally, here is the original.

I am going to pop over to Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s blog and join her Caturday Art blog hop. I sure hope to see many of you there. If you would like to join me or just check out art from your fellow bloggers, click on Athena’s badge.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

We Kitties Blue can hardly believe this is the last Sunday before Christmas and that a new year is almost here. We know everyone is busy with decorating, wrapping, baking, writing cards and going to parties, but we hope you can spare a few minutes to snap a selfie and join us for our weekly blog hop.

Mom also will be posting our Thoroughly Poetic Thursday poem tomorrow. She wrote it before I had my seizure and doesn’t want to waste a “good” poem. Plus we cannot let down our friends, Angel Sammy and Teddy.

With many thanks, love, purrs and paw-pats, Sawyer

SAWYER UPDATE

Sawyer seizure

Dad Tom and I thank everyone who has sent purrs, prayers and POTP for our little fellow, Sawyer.

Right now Sawyer remains hospitalized. He is being treated by a wonderful veterinarian, Dr. Maureen Noftsinger. She is the vet who saved Lily Olivia’s life after she was hit by a car. If you do not know about that incident, you can read about it here, “Lily Olivia is a Survivor.”

Dad Tom and I visited Sawyer yesterday afternoon. I held him and talked to him for a long time. He seemed content in my arms. He was responsive but quiet…definitely not his usual “piss and vinegar” self. He was agitated by a noisy dog in the waiting room and other noises.

Our regular vet, Dr. Kathryn Neel, is out of town, but I had a 20-minute conversation with her by telephone. At the conclusion of that, Dad Tom and I decided not to take Sawyer to the vet school at Virginia Tech for additional evaluation. It is cost prohibitive and findings would not change his treatment plan. A third medication (Keppra) will be added to the two (phenobarbital and Zonisimide) he is already taking. The Keppra needs to be formulated for him, and Dr. Noftsinger doesn’t want to send him home until she can get him on it and observe him. We are hoping he can start on that today.

Dr. Noftsinger doesn’t think that Sawyer suffered any permanent or significant brain damage, but based on his level of activity when we saw him, I think it’s a bit too soon to make that determination.

We will visit him again today with the hope of bringing him home today or tomorrow.
I will continue to post updates here. Thanks again for the support, purrs, prayers and POTP. We are sincerely grateful.

PLEASE PRAY FOR SAWYER

Prayers PleaseLast night a little after 9 p.m., Sawyer started seizing.  It was the third Wednesday in a row with him having a seizure. After about five to ten minutes, it was evident that the seizure was not going to stop. A quick phone call to the emergency vet and we were on the road.

He was given valium as soon as we arrived, which stopped the seizure. By that time it had been going on for about 50 minutes. His temperature was 106 degrees at that point. We had to leave him at the hospital, where he is getting fluids and has a cooling blanket too bring his temperature down. He is on seizure watch, so valium can be administered immediately should he begin to seize.

When we left to come home, Sawyer was mildly responsive but mostly “out of it” from exhaustion and the valium. We hated leaving him, but if anything happens, we will get an immediate phone call. This is the same Emergency Vet where Lily Olivia’s life was saved, and we do trust them totally.

Our biggest fear right now is brain damage from the high fever and duration of the seizure.

If you can send some prayers and POTP his way, we would all be grateful.

I had planned to participate in the Thankful Thursday blog hop and had written a poem for Thoroughly Poetic Thursday, but I will post those things later in the day or tomorrow.

Thanks for your support.

THE STORY OF MATT THE ANT

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

If it is Thursday, either one of the Kitties Blue or I will be writing a poem. This is a fun event started a couple of years ago by our friend, Sammy, at Two Spoiled Cats. We used to write poems based on a letter of the alphabet, but now Sammy and Teddy provide an inspiration photo each week. This is the photo we were given this week.

The Story of Matt the Ant

There once was an ant as big as a cat.
All his ant friends called him Matt.
He was robust and strong as a giant,
So all the ant minions were always compliant.
When he signaled them to move a rock or a twig,
They did it posthaste no matter how big.
You see, they were afraid of his giant size,
As they thought this was exceedingly wise.
They knew he could flatten them quick as could be
And find others like them to take up his plea.
Though Matt was as timid as a lovely ladybug,
His great size made others think he was a thug.
He brought water and snacks all through the day
And even gave them time off to play.
Still they always worried one day they’d be hurt
When his big giant foot smashed them into the dirt,
So they did his bidding with nary a complaint,
Working hard until they felt totally faint.
Matt wanted to reassure them he’d hurt them never
But, though his brain was big, he wasn’t that clever.
He knew the ant minions’ fear was acute,
But poor giant Matt was born totally mute.
Then finally one day an idea came to his brain
Of how to communicate he was totally humane.
He signaled the ants to lay sticks in a certain way,
Knowing they would do it without any delay.
When finished he signaled them all to step back.
Soon the ants were charging Matt as if to attack.
Instead each rushed up for a hug and handshake
After reading the message Matt instructed them to make.
“Dear ant friends, you all are like family to me,
And today I have the pleasure to decree:
I will take over all your jobs and chores,
And you are free to travel the world and explore.
All these menial jobs I find incredibly easy and fun,
And I’m strong enough to do all of them as just one.
After your vacation, should you decide to return,
You will never have a reason for fear or concern.
I will work with and beside you everyday
And which jobs you want to work you’ll have a say.
No matter the differences we have in our size,
We are and always will be equals in my eyes.
Now go on your way and do exactly as you like;
I am your protector and you I will never strike.”
Once the hugs and handshakes were completed
Matt invited everyone to grab a rock and be seated.
He brought them all drinks and a giant repast
And into the night the party did last.
In the morning all the minions set right back to work.
They wanted to show they trusted they wouldn’t be hurt.
And Matt was there working right by their sides
To show them his love and heartfelt pride
In their acceptance of him with no trepidation—
No longer judging him on size rather than reputation.
This story has a moral to which you’ll agree:
To judge someone blindly is a serious misdeed.

Admittedly, I got carried away today with my poem. I just couldn’t seem to end it. If you read the entire poem, thank you.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday is not a blog hop, but you can leave a copy of your poem or a link to it in the Comments at Two Spoiled Cats. To go there, click on the poetry badge. Though now an angel, Sammy continues to write a poem each week and transmit it from the Rainbow Bridge. His poem is always a winner and shouldn’t be missed.

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by our friend, Brian. Each Thursday we get to share for what we are thankful. This week Dad Tom is thankful for the badge he received from Two Spoiled Cats for being the supplier of the Tuesday Teaser photo.

We are especially thankful that our humans no longer live in California. The wildfires are scary and devastating. One of Mom’s high school classmates lost everything in the Paradise (Camp) fire. We also are thankful that a neighbor was able to save her dog and that she is safe. We are praying for everyone in California, including Mom’s nephew, who is a Captain with CalFire. We hope you’ll join us in our prayers.

We are joining the blog hop over at Brian’s. To participate, click on his badge below.

SPARKS: OVERCOMING ADVERSITY

Today’s Spark

Before Hurricane Florence ever made landfall, the predicted path had us taking a direct hit. We were lucky, however, the storm weakened and changed direction. What is left of it, as a now tropical storm, started making its presence felt yesterday with wind and rain. Flash flood warnings have been issued, but we are safe and will suffer no ill effects, except for the ever-growing mud pit in our back yard.

While watching the news, seeing the amount of water causing devastation in many parts of North Carolina, noting with sadness how many individuals have had to be rescued from flooded homes and reflecting on those who lost their lives, the first word that came to mind was adversity.

Looking through possible quotes to use for today’s Sparks post, I came across this one from Michelle Obama.

Sparks - Adversity

I certainly am not trying to downplay the impact of the storm or the really tough challenges facing those who felt its wrath, but I do believe they will come out stronger on the other side with help from those of us who are lucky enough to be mostly uneffected.

All my prayers go out to everyone facing the weeks and months of cleaning up and getting their lives back to normal.

About This Photo

The photo was taken last December when Sawyer was just an itty-bitty kitten. As bruiser Cooper Murphy tried to get the upper paw, Sawyer never gave up the fight. Even now, Cooper Murphy outweighs Sawyer by a good 10 to 12 pounds, but the little guy doesn’t back down. He sees himself as a big cat in a little body.

I apologize for not covering Sawyer’s boy bits, but he’s just so darn adorable, I didn’t want to tamper with the photo.

Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend, Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). Annie is taking a “break” from blogging, so there is no hop.
