SPLISH SPLASH

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Today’s inspiration photo brought up memories of childhood; though, I was a “goody two shoes” and never would have done what this youngster is doing. I’m more likely to do something uninhibited now, as I have no one to answer to but myself. I no longer need to worry about getting in trouble with my parents. As this photo needs no elaboration, my poem today is short…a haiku.

Lost childhood pleasures
Somewhere in my memory
Now recalled fondly

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday is hosted by Angel Sammy and Teddy (Two Spoiled Cats) with an inspiration photo provided by their mom. Angel Sammy is the master poet and sends his poem each week from the Bridge. It is always worth reading. To do so, as well as find links to other poems in the comments, click on his badge. If you have not participated previously, you also can find the inspirational photo for next week on today’s post.

Thankful Thursday

Sawyer had hoped to be here today with a good report on his blood work, but we have not heard anything as yet. Instead I am doing the thankful for strange bedfellows having a Doozy of a Snoozy. We are always thankful when our kingdom is peaceable.

Thankful Thursday: sawyer and Misty May

Dad Tom and I were shocked and amazed to see Misty May and Sawyer snuggled up together. We can’t say they are friends or enemies. They normally don’t interact at all.

Sawyer looks much bigger than Misty May here, but it is just the camera angle. They actually are just about the same size.

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by our friend, Brian. To join in, click on his badge.

Tomorrow we will participate in the Friendly Fill-Ins blog hop. And, paws crossed, Sawyer will be here with news about his vet visit and prognosis going forward.

PRETTY IN PINK MISTY MAY

Caturday Art

Misty May is the centerpiece of today’s colorful art submission in Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s Caturday Art blog hop.

Misty May is Pretty in Pink.

I used the IVY effect from Painnt and manipulated the hue. The white edging is from piZap and the mat and frame from Picasa.

If you’d like to join us on the blog hop or see other art creations, click on Athena’s badge.

The original photo was taken on our front porch by Dad Tom.

Sunday Selfie Early Warning

Where does the time go? It’s almost the end of July…more than halfway through the year already. And another week has zipped  on by. That means it is time to get yourself all spiffed up for a quick photo before you retire for your easy Sunday. Looking forward to seeing all our old friends and maybe some new ones as well tomorrow.

THE NOTORIOUSLY GRUMPY MISTY MAY

Sunday Selfies: Week #203

When Mom asked me if I wanted to do the selfie today, I declined. Then she told me that Spitty would probably like to see me and so I agreed. Of course, I had no intention of looking like I was happy with taking a selfie. After all, I do have a reputation to uphold. Regardless, I hope Spitty likes my selfie.

Blog Hop

Now it’s your turn to snap that selfie and share it with all your admirers.

I absolutely was going to refuse to include these instructions, but then I read them. I discovered they just might help somebody new to hopping. Imagine that! They actually are useful. Of course, for our long-time hoppers, you can skip all this.

  • The link to add your selfie to the hop is below.
  • You also will find below the code to use if you’d like the hop to appear on your blog.
  • Posting on Sundays is not necessary to join.
  • You do not need to be a cat to enter. All anipals are welcome regardless of species.
  • The hop remains open for entries through Thursday midnight.
  • Please be so kind as to display our badge and/or link to The Cat on My Head.

On behalf of all the Kitties Blue and Mom, I’d like to thank all of those who continue to support our Sunday Selfies blog hop. Your friendship is appreciated and valued. I also am pleased to welcome any newbies to the hop.

HAVE YOU HUGGED YOUR CAT TODAY?

If not, why not? Today is the official International Hug Your Cat Day, so what are you waiting for?

Ahh, your cat does not like hugs, and you are afraid she’ll maul you for trying. Most of us don’t like hugs either. It’s a cat thing, so we have no idea why some idiot person came up with the foolish idea of having an entire day set aside for unwanted hugs. You know it wasn’t the idea of any cat past or present!

Mom did find one of us who begrudgingly allowed herself to be hugged and even smooched. That cat was Misty May. Suck Up!

Sparks on International Hug Your Cat Day

Since, we always do a Sparks post on Monday, Mom decided to combine the two events. So here’s that hug combined with our Spark.

International Hug Your Cat Day and Sparks

Being literary types, we’re fairly certain you are acquainted with Shel Silverstein, but if not, here’s a little info. Sheldon “Shel” Silverstein was an American author, poet, cartoonist, songwriter and playwright. He’s best known for his children’s books and “Black” comedy. He was the recipient of two Grammy Awards, as well as a Golden Globe and Academy Award nomination. Silverstein suffered a heart attack and died at the age of 68 in 1999. You can read more about Silverstein on Wikipedia.

Sparks badgeThough our host, Annie (McGuffy’s Reader), of the Sparks Blog Hop is taking a much deserved break from blogging and our Sparks post is not part of a hop, we continue to support Annie’s vision when starting the Sparks hop: “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!”

Now go hug your cat or, in lieu of that, another person. Our mom loves giving and getting hugs. We know she’ll be trying to hug others of us today. We plan to take turns being the lookout on alert to prevent this affront to our cat selves.

We also are  joining the Awww Mondays blog hop at Comedy Plus.

SMARTYKAT ART & REVIEW

Today’s post, featuring Misty May, has two parts. The first is our entry in Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s Caturday Art blog hop. The second part is a review of SmartyKat® Claw Tower, which Misty May is using in the arty photo.

Caturday Art

I used Painnt again this week to create the art. This is the Aquarelle effect. I topped that with the Metallic overlay and patterned border from piZap and mats and frame from Picasa.

SmartyKat® Review

Here’s the original photo of Misty May working out on the new Claw Tower.

SmartyKat Claw Tower

Kitties Blue are usually skeptical of anything new unless it involves treats, so I had no expectations when I assembled the Claw Tower and set it up in the foyer. Moments later, I let Misty May in the house, and she went right to it and started scratching. I was totally amazed. Luckily I had my phone nearby and could snap a couple of photos. Since this photo was taken, I’ve seen Mau, Calista Jo and Lisbeth using the tower.

The tower comes unassembled and is fairly easy to put together. I had a bit of a problem with the base as it folds in the middle. Keeping it flat to attach the sisal portion was challenging, but once I accomplished that, the rest was a snap. In addition to the sisal portion, the tower has a carpeted portion. It includes three felt, catnip toys, which attach with hook and loop technology, as well as ribbons attached to the top.

Natural behaviors for cats are stretching and scratching. The majority of towers manufactured for this purpose are too short for a cat to stretch to its full length. For this reason, they often remain unused. The SmartyKat Claw Tower is extra tall at 34 inches. Misty May is one of the smaller Kitties Blue, and you can see that several more inches of tower are available, allowing our larger/longer cats to get a full stretch as well.

I like the Claw Tower for its large and sturdy base, making it difficult for Kitties Blue to knock it over. I also like that the cores of both the base and post are made from recycled paper pulp and that the catnip was produced without chemicals or pesticides.

Kitties Blue and I recommend the SmartyKat Claw Tower, and know any kitty would find it to their liking.

You can purchase it from a variety of on-line and brick and mortar retailers for $27.73.

Disclaimer

Kitties Blue received the SmartyCat Claw Tower at no charge as part of our partnership with Propel Communications, a PR and brand engagement partner representing more than 40 pet products and solutions. Throughout the year, we are offered a variety of products to test in exchange for our fair and honest review. The opinions expressed are those of Kitties Blue and myself.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Wow, another week has flown by, and it’s time again to take a selfie of your cutie pie self for tomorrow’s Sunday Selfies blog hop. Kitties Blue were delighted when none of them had to do the selfie last week. They’re back in the hot seat this week. I’ll have to see which one of them I can coerce into being your host.

The gang and I want to thank all the faithful, long-term hoppers as well as the newbies. See you tomorrow.

Comment-a-thon

If you missed our Sunday Selfies post honoring Allie (Friends Furever) on her 16th birthday, it’s not to late to check it out. For every comment posted before 5 p.m. EDT today at Birthday Greetings for Allie or on the Friends Furever site, I will be donating $1 to Friends for Animals Sanctuary in Brevard County, Florida. Allie selected it for the recipient of my donation, as her sister, Noelle, was adopted from there. To visit Allie’s birthday post, click here and then scroll down to Sweet Sixteen Sunday Selfies.

THE ELUSIVE MISTY MAY

Sunday Selfies: Week #191

Misty May has been more demanding since Lily Olivia passed away. And, like Lily, she does not take,”no,” for an answer…ever! Consequently she was right up in our faces this morning. That made it quite easy to coerce her into taking a selfie. Of course, she looks rather stern. That’s her “go to” expression.

Misty May hosts Sunday Selfies

If you are like Misty May and will do almost anything to avoid taking a selfie, she challenges you to put your best paw forward today and show off for all your friends and followers. There is one specific follower that Misty May hopes will like her selfie.

Let’s Hop!

We were delighted to see so many hoppers last week. We look forward to seeing lots of fuzzy, smiling faces again this week.

If you are new to hopping or just need a refresher course to enter our hop, here are some pointers.

Thanks to everyone who follows and supports our hop and blog. Your friendship is what keeps the Kitties Blue and me blogging.

Hugs and purrs to all.

SOFT KITTY

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #99

1. For Easter (or Passover), I usually make Dad Tom an Easter basket with some of his favorite candies or some other little gift.

2. My favorite Easter (or Passover) treat is anything made of dark chocolate. I am not a fan of the popular Peeps.

3. Lately, the song “Soft Kitty” from The Big Bang Theory, is stuck in my head. Misty May is our soft kitty. She has the most luxurious furs. I love running my hand through them.

Fill-Ins

4. The A-Z Blogging Challenge is fun to see and read on the blogs of others. I’ve never participated as I don’t enjoy the constraints it would put on what I post.

Friendly Fill-Ins is a blog hop hosted by Ellen (15 and Meowing) and Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). The intent is to give bloggers the opportunity to learn more about each other, and in this case, a couple of the Kitties Blue.

Ellen and Annie each compose two incomplete sentences for participants to complete. If you’d like to play along, you can find the blank fill-ins on their blogs each Thursday.

The blog hop takes place at McGuffy’s Reader. To join, click on the badge.

A Few Words from Sawyer

On our Wordless Wednesday post, Sawyer the Crusher, many commenters suggested I should have gotten in the paper bag on which I was laying. Trust me, I did. In fact I totally destroyed it going in and out. The bag beneath me was liberally ripped.

NAP, KITTENS & SNOW

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #98

Once again, I received some assistance with the fill-ins. Not only is Sawyer completing one of the fill-ins, but Mauricio is as well.

1. Sawyer: I am the baby in my family. But then you all know that. Mom will use any opportunity to show photos of me.

Sawyer helps with fill-ins.

2. Mauricio: I have two sibling(s), Misty May and a brother I have not seen since Mom and Dad adopted Misty May and me. Here we are as kittens (2004) shortly after our adoption.

Fill-ins with Misty May and Mau.

3. I am looking forward to the BlogPaws Conference in Kansas City, MO, this Spring, as we used to live there.

4. The first sign of Spring this year was snow. Some daffodils, forsythia and our quince bush were blooming when they were covered in snow. Another snowstorm is forecast for Saturday.

A FELINE SPARK

Sparks: Week #21

sparks #21

Being a blog dedicated to kitties, it seemed appropriate to finally do a Spark post featuring a quote about cats. The photo above features Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy, Misty May, Mauricio and Giulietta during one of Chris’s biweekly nip fests.

I was unfamiliar with the author of this quote, so I suspect most of you will be as well. The following information is from Wikipedia:

“Henry Charles Bukowski (born Heinrich Karl Bukowski; August 16, 1920 – March 9, 1994) was a German-American poet, novelist, and short story writer. His writing was influenced by the social, cultural, and economic ambience of his home city of Los Angeles. His work addresses the ordinary lives of poor Americans, the act of writing, alcohol, relationships with women, and the drudgery of work. Bukowski wrote thousands of poems, hundreds of short stories and six novels, eventually publishing over 60 books. The FBI kept a file on him as a result of his column, Notes of a Dirty Old Man, in the LA underground newspaper Open City.”

I am joining Annie (McGuffy’s Reader) for her Sparks blog hop. In establishing the hop, she wrote this, “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!” This is what makes Sparks so special and why I look forward to participating each week.
