Father’s Day

KIZMET’S DISAPPROVING STARE & A SPARK

Awww Mondays

Grey cat sitting on a wrapped gift.

Kizmet parked herself on top of her dad’s Father’s Day gift and did not want to move, as you can see by the expression on her face. I suspect she knew that his gift was wrapped in a Cat Lady box, and she could smell the catnip toys that had once been inside.

Even if Kizmet appears disapproving, I still think she is awwwdorable enough to join the Awww Mondays blog hop at Comedy Plus. If you would like to meet her there, click on the Awww badge.

Kizmet is also participating in International Box Day

Sparks

Purple Asian clematis with the following quote porinted on the photo, "I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge. That myth is more potent than history. That dreams are more powerful than facts. That hope always triumphs over experience. That laughter is the only cure for grief. And I believe that love is stronger than death." by Robert Fulghum

I found this Spark after our friend, Raz (Friends Furever), got his wings. I think you can intuit why it spoke to me.

The author of today’s Spark, Robert Lee Fulghum, is an 86-year-old, American author and Unitarian Universalist minister. Fulghum is best known for his first collection of writings, All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten.

The photograph is one of Dad Tom’s.

Sparks is the creation of Annie from McGuffy’s Reader. Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend. Annie stated when she began Sparks, “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world.”

The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky

It’s time again for our fun-loving tabbies, Periwinkle & Stinky, to take-off on another adventure. You can catch up with them tomorrow over at Friends Furever. It is Periwinkle’s turn to select what they are going to do. Whatever it is, you know the two have more fun when you join them. So, they’ll be looking for you tomorrow.

Thanks for joining us today.

FATHER’S DAY 2023 SELFIES

Sunday Selfies; Week #461

Selfies of nine cats and one man, their dad, on a Father's Day greeting.

I bet you didn’t expect to see all of us here today, but we couldn’t miss the opportunity to wish Dad Tom a Happy Father’s Day. He is really a terrific dad, and takes extra special good care of us. We all feel as if we hit the jackpot, except for maybe Raleigh, when we became one of the Kitties Blue. We know all our predecessors felt exactly the same. Of course, we also included a selfie of our dad.

Hopping Time

We certainly hope if you have a dad that you are celebrating and honoring him today. If that is the case, please share a selfie of him or maybe a photo of the two of you or even more if you have lots of fursibs.

If you are too busy today, we hope you will join the hop sometime before it closes at midnight Thursday.

Thanks for joining us today and all the other days you come by to visit. We appreciate your following and supporting us, commenting on our posts and being our friends.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO ALL THE DADS

CELEBRATING WORLD’S BEST CAT DAD

Sunday Selfies: Week #409

We imagine many of you are celebrating the World’s Best Cat Dad today. We are fairly certain each of you who have a human dad consider him to be the World’s Best. And we believe that is exactly how it should be. So here’s best wishes for Father’s Day to all the cat dads (as well as all dads) but especially ours.

cat dad selfie: Portrait of Cat Dad Tom surrounded by heart-shaped portraits of the seven Kitties Blue

Thanks Dad Tom for taking such exceptionally good care of us. We love you!

Hopping Time

Now it’s time for you to share your selfie, one of your dad or maybe the two of you together. If you and your dad are celebrating and do not have time to join us today, we totally understand. You can hop over anytime between now and Thursday.

But whatever you do, make certain you give your dad extra cuddles, purrs and love today. That’s exactly what we plan to do!

FATHER’S DAY 2021 GROUP SELFIES

Sunday Selfies: Week #358

Today we celebrate our dad, who we think is the World’s Best Cat Dad. He does everything for us, and we love him bunches. To honor him, we made a special card with his selfie and a selfie of each of us.

If you are wondering about our disguises, it’s sort of an inside joke. But if you look closely at our dad, we think you’ll figure out who is the brunt of the joke. But, we want to assure you, we are not mocking our dad.  This is to let him know we love him so much that we want to be just like him!

Hopping Time

Now it is your turn. If you’d like to honor your dad by sharing his selfie, that would be terrific. And if you’d like to share an usie with the two of you, that would be even better. Whatever you decide to share is okay with us. We just hope to see you here hopping with us. Even if you don’t want to share a selfie and hop, please stop by and check out the selfies of your friends.

WISHING OUR DAD AND ALL DADS A

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART LXXXVII

Best Friends Day

Stinky stands near the teleportation tunnel waiting for Periwinkle to arrive. He is holding gifts for her in his paws and doesn’t want to get too close. Periwinkle usually comes tumbling out of the tunnel right into Stinky’s paws, and he wants to avoid dropping anything.

Best Friends Day

Periwinkle is confused when she tumbles out of the tunnel with the usual whoosh, and Stinky is not there to catch her. When she sees him, she squeals with delight, especially when she sees his gifts. “Stinky, what have you got? Are those beautiful flowers for me and those doughnuts? What is the occasion?”

Stinky explains to Periwinkle that June 8 celebrates lots and lots of different things, and they are going to to get involved with three. While handing Periwinkle the flowers, he tells her, “I have never asked you your favorite color or favorite flower, so I hope you like these yellow roses.”

“Oh yes I do, Stinky. Why did you select these?”

Stinky explains, “Today is Best Friends Day, and you are both my girlfriend and my best friend. Yellow roses represent friendship, joy and caring. They convey happy thoughts and positive feelings of warmth. As my girlfriend you bring all those things to my life.”

Periwinkle wipes a tear from her eye and gives Stinky a big hug and whisker kiss prior to asking him about the doughnuts.

Jelly-Filled Doughnut Day

“Today also is Jelly-Filled Doughnut Day. Cooper Murphy helped me make these special ones in his Cat Scout Bake Shop. They are filled with a special catnip jelly.”

“Can we have one now?”

Stinky tells her, “Of course,” and hands Periwinkle a doughnut and then takes one for himself. They spend several minutes smacking their lips and licking their toe beans, as they enjoy their yummy doughnuts. After finishing the first one, they look at the others longingly and decide to each have another.

“Are we going anywhere today, Stinky?”

“Nope, I hope that’s okay,” he replies and adds, “But I do have something else for you.”

A Poem

Periwinkle starts to bounce from paw to paw in anticipation. Seeing this, Stinky gets very nervous. Then he begins to recite…

Periwinkle, you are my best friend,
And I know you will be until the end.
You are beautiful and kind
And hold a special place in my heart and mind.
We always have fun when we are together
But seeing you more often would make my life better.
I know that cannot happen since we live far apart,
So you will be always in my dreams and my heart.

“Oh, Stinky, you wrote me a poem. That is the sweetest thing ever. Thank you so much!”

“I know it was sort of lame, but I am happy you like it,” Stinky tells her apologetically.

“Stinky, it wasn’t lame at all, and I love it. You are the best boyfriend ever,” Periwinkle whispers as she hugs him tightly.

Hugging her back, Stinky tells Periwinkle it is time for the third celebration of the day; though, it is not actually a celebration. It is a remembrance.

World Pet Memorial Day

Stinky tells Periwinkle that June 8 also is World Pet Memorial Day, created by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), as a day when humans can memorialize their pets that have gone to the Rainbow Bridge. The AVMA suggests some ways to do this, including the creation of a photo collage or scrapbook of the beloved pet, the planting of a tree in their memory or donating money or time to an organization that helps animals.

“Stinky, are we going to do something special for our fursibs that are now angels?”

Stinky tells Periwinkle, “Yes, but not all of them. That would take us all week. We are going to do a special memorial photo for your sisfur, Allie, and my brofur, Mau, as they were the last ones to leave our families as well as husband and wife.”

“Oh, I really like that Stinky. Let’s do it now.”

The tabbies get busy making their special memorial. When finished they show it to Stinky’s mom and dad, who are very impressed and proud of Periwinkle and Stinky for doing something so nice and thoughtful.

Stinky stifles a yawn and asks Periwinkle if she’d like to have a nap and then another doughnut and some Temptations before she has to leave for home. Periwinkle agrees that would be a terrific idea, and the tabbies head to Stinky’s dad’s chair where they curl up together for a nice long snooze and cuddle.

The End

Periwinkle & Stinky are joining the Happy Tuesday blog hop at Comedy Plus.

FATHER’S DAY SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #253

I am the designated Kitty Blue to be your host for this special Sunday…Father’s Day.

Lots of men claim they don’t like cats. I feel sorry for them. They are missing out on lots of love and fun. Of course, we know many cat dads. In fact several follow this blog, and their kitties join Sunday Selfies. We know they are all fabulous dads, but we think our cat dad is the very BEST one.

My selfie is our card for Dad Tom.

Now it’s your turn. If you want to share an usie with you and your dad, that would be terrific, but not necessary if your dad is shy.

CONSEQUENCES & CAT CONFESSIONS

Sparks

Today’s photo was taken by our resident photographer, Dad Tom. It is the Pisgah National Forest shot from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The author of today’s Spark, Sivananda Saraswati [Swami Sivananda] (1887 – 1963), was a Hindu spiritual teacher and proponent of Yoga and Vedanta. Sivananda was born Kuppuswami in Pattamadai, in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. He studied medicine and served as a physician for several years in British Malaya before taking up monasticism. Sivananda was the founder of the Divine Life Society (DLS) in 1936 and the Yoga-Vedanta Forest Academy in 1948. He authored more than 200 books on yoga, Vedanta and a variety of subjects.

Sparks was established as a blog hop by our friend, Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). Though Annie is taking a break from blogging and our Sparks post is not part of a hop, we continue to support Annie’s vision (as do many of our friends) when starting the Sparks hop: “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!”

Our Father’s Day Promises Update

Well, we pretty much failed miserably at our promises we made yesterday. In addition to that, our gifts we had expected to give our dad are on backorder, whatever the heck that means. We know one thing for sure: That’s not our fault!

  • Misty May: I will not sneeze in his face. FAILED
  • Sawyer: I will not try to escape out the front door. SUCCEEDED
  • Lisbeth: I will not growl and hiss and snort at my fursibs. FAILED Not only did I do all of these at Sawyer, but I also  engaged in whacky paws with him.
  • Mauricio/Lisbeth/Calista Jo: We will not hork on the bed or anywhere else in the house. FAILED/SUCCEEDED/SUCCEEDED
  • Giulietta: I will come downstairs for breakfast and dinner, so Dad won’t have to hunt me down. FAILED
  • Astrid: I will let Dad Tom hold me if he would like to do so. HE DIDN’T TRY
  • Cooper Murphy: I will not sleep east/west in the humans’ bed. SUCCEEDED

Guess Dad will have to wait until his birthday (eight months from now) for us to attempt this once again.

FATHER’S DAY 2018 SELFIES

Sunday Selfies: Week #201

As today is Father’s Day, we are dedicating our post to our most excellent cat dad, Dad Tom. We have a special selfie collage, but before we get to that, we all want to make some promises to Dad Tom as his gift for the day.

  • Misty May: I will not sneeze in his face.
  • Sawyer: I will not try to escape out the front door.
  • Lisbeth: I will not growl and hiss and snort at my fursibs.
  • Mauricio/Lisbeth/Calista Jo: We will not hork on the bed or anywhere else in the house.
  • Giulietta: I will come downstairs for breakfast and dinner, so Dad won’t have to hunt me down.
  • Astrid: I will let Dad Tom hold me if he would like to do so.
  • Cooper Murphy: I will not sleep east/west in the humans’ bed.

We are going to do our darnedest to keep these promises; though, that horking one is going to be tough as is Lisbeth’s other promise. But we are going to do our best, and that’s what counts. Right?

Now here’s that selfie we promised. Each of us selected a past selfie and added those to one of Dad’s to make this especially for him.

Saying Good-Bye

All of us are extremely sad about losing two friends this past week. We know they are happy and frolicking at the Rainbow Bridge, with all their friends and fursibs who went before, but that doesn’t mean we won’t miss them. We are sending lots of purrs to their humans as they grieve, and Mom is sending condolences and prayers. Today we are remembering and honoring, Simon from Toby in Charge and Minchie from Cat-a-holic.

If you have not had the opportunity to leave your condolences for your friends, the links to their blogs are above.

A FATHER’S DAY SELFIE COLLAGE

Sunday  Selfies: Week #149

This Sunday is when we officially celebrate our dads and say thanks for all they do for us. We do we should do this more than one day each year, as our dads do things for us everyday. Our human dad is an exceptional cat daddy, and we love him very much. We wanted to do a special selfie with our day, but didn’t want to ask him and spoil our surprise. This afternoon while we had our heads together trying to come up with a plan, our dad picked up Mom’s new cell phone and took a selfie! We immediately got the photo from Mom’s phone and made this collage.

Father's Day with Kitties Blue and Dad Tom.

We wish all dads a happy Father’s Day, and we hope those of you who join us today will share your dad with us if you have one. All anipals, regardless of species, are invited to join our blog hop each Sunday. We truly do have the cutest critters on the internets joining us each week, and we’d love to have you join us. Meeting new kitties, woofies, buns, hamsters, guinea pigs, etc. and making friends is always fun.

Should you wish to join us, the link to add your selfie is below. You will also find the code there that you will need yo add the hop to your Sunday Selfies post. Should you decide to do this, would you please be so kind as to display our badge and/or link back to The Cat on My Head.

If you normally do not post on Sunday but still want to join in the fun, our hop remains open through Thursday.
