NATIONAL FERAL CAT DAY SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #426

National Feral Cat Day badge with portraits of four cats.

As promised in yesterday’s post, Sawyer is here to host our hop on National Feral Cat Day. And I didn’t even have to bribe him to take this selfie! I will reward him, however, for being so cooperative.

Sawyer thought, with Halloween just around the corner, I should add something representative of the season to his selfie. Of course, I was happy to oblige him.

Now, Sawyer and I hope you will oblige us by posting a selfie and joining our blog hop. It’s such a good way to stay in touch with your current friends as well as make some new friends. As a reminder, you don’t have to post today to join, and the hop remains open through Thursday.

I know we mention it every week, but we wouldn’t be here without your support, following, comments and friendship. Thank you! Kitties Blue and I love being part of the pet blogging community.

Birthday Wishes

Today is the birthday of a very special person and amazing friend, Mom Sharon, from Friends Furever. Please join us in wishing her a happy birthday and sending best wishes for a purrfect day. We are certain her kitties, Raz, Noelle (aka Periwinkle) and Reesie, will be spoiling her with lots of love and cuddles.

Kitties Blue and I will be back tomorrow with a review of a great, holiday novel, How Snowball Stole Christmas. I will be giving away my copy of the book. So, please join us then and leave a comment for the opportunity to win the book.

Have a terrific easy Sunday.

PICTURE PURRFECT KITTEN

Sunday Selfies: Week #423

picture purrfect kitten: tabby kitten in a frame with pink flowers and purple ribbon.

Audrey is more social than Raleigh and is not camera shy (as yet), so she happily snapped a selfie to share with you. At 17 weeks old, she has lost that totally kitten face. They grow up way too quickly.

All the Kitties Blue hope you weren’t camera shy this week and snapped a selfie to share with them as well as your other pals. All anipals are welcome regardless of species. It’s always fun to make new friends, so we hope you’ll invite your friends to join in the fun.

A Special Birthday

KittiesBlue and I are sending birthday best wishes out to a dear and treasured friend. Please join us in wishing Teddy and Angel Sammy’s mom, Pam, a special birthday filled with love and happiness.

You can wish her a happy birthday at Two Spoiled Cats!

Comment-a-thon Results

If you missed yesterday’s post, I announced the winner of a $40 donation from Angel Mau and Misty May’s birthday. Lone Star Cats will have the opportunity to select a pet rescue, shelter or charity to receive the donation. Once I find out where the money will be going, I’ll announce it here.

Thank you for being here today and for following, supporting and befriending us. Wishing you all an easy and happy Sunday.

18TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION & COMMENT-A-THON

Caturday Birthday Art

Today Misty May and Angel Mau celebrate their 18th birthday. My wish for today would be that Mau was still with us to celebrate. He was a wonderful cat with a warm and generous heart. I think about and miss him everyday.

birthday celebration comment-a-thon with kitten and adult photos of two tuxie cats

Their birthday card includes two of the very earliest photos taken shortly after we adopted Misty may and Mau in November of 2004. As youngsters they were bonded but grew apart as years passed. Mauricio was the nurturer, but he lavished his attention on others of the Kitties Blue and not his sister.

Though Misty May has been deaf for a few years and suffers from thyroid disease, she just keeps going like that Energizer bunny. She prefers to spend her days on the front porch and her nights on my pillow. She occasionally decides to spend an afternoon on one of our neighbor’s porches but is always home in plenty of time for meals.

I recently learned that male cats have shorter lifespans (up to two to three years less) than female cats, so that may be the reason Misty May is still with us and Mau isn’t. He received his angel wings on July 17, 2020.

Party Time

Cooper Murphy created an exceptionally cute cake. And we have some raspberry and nip-garnished, pink champagne to accompany it. Please help yourselves.

Misty May and Angel Mau will be participating in Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s Caturday Art blog hop. You can do the same by clicking on her badge.

Comment-a-thon

In honor of Misty May and Angel Mau, Kitties Blue and I are having a comment-a-thon. I will donate $1 for every comment (one per person, please) made on this post through midnight Thursday. One commenter, selected through Random.org, will have the opportunity to select the pet rescue or charity to receive the donation. So please feel free to invite all your friends to join the party and comment.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

It is time again for selfies. And miracle of miracles, I know who your host will be. And she’s already snapped her photo. But that’s as much of a hint as you’ll get. You will need to join us again tomorrow to find out which of the girls it is.

Thanks for joining us for today’s celebration. Have a purrfect day.

FORGETFULNESS, FORGIVENESS & FILL-INS

Friendly Fill-Ins

This week our fill-ins are filled with apologies. It seems my brain is a little fuzzy, and I have not been remembering things I should. I also had to ask for help again, and I am grateful Sawyer (and Stinky) once again stepped up to assist. We all used teal italics for our fill-ins, and explanatory information is in parentheses.

1. Sawyer & Stinky: I am not always so forgetful and inconsiderate. (Yesterday was Friends Furever’s, Noelle and Periwinkle’s, birthdays, and we blew it…no cards and no gifts! Yikes! So, today, we at least have a card.)
forgetfulness & forgiveness: birthday card with bouquet of pink while and purply flowers as a birth card for a great tabby cat waring a pink flower and a grey cartoon tabby cat wearing a purple flower

1. Mom Janet: I am not always so forgetful and inconsiderate. (Yesterday was Ginger Cat Appreciation Day, and I did nothing for my boys [though, I did post something on Instagram], Cooper Murphy and Raleigh. I am pretty ashamed of myself and hope they will forgive me.)

forgetfulness & forgiveness: background of yellow flowers for a belated Ginger Cat Apreciation Day with two ginger cat photos cut into heart shapes.
Our friend Teddy (Two Spoiled Cats) was the representative for Ginger Cat Appreciation Day, which makes me even more embarrassed at forgetting it.
2. I refuse to eat okra and a bunch of other stuff.
3. Sawyer: I would happily accept a job offer at The Temptations factory.
4. Acrobat is a job I could never do.
The kitties are joining the Friendly Fill-ins blog hop hosted by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Lorianne (Four-Legged Furballs). To do the same, check out either of their blogs on Thursday for the sentences to be filled in. You can join the hop by clicking on their badge.

Feline/Friendship Friday

Kitties Blue also will be participating in the Feline Friday (Comedy Plus) and Friendship Friday (Create With Joy) blog hops.

If I can remember what day it is, we’ll be back tomorrow with some Caturday Art!

PAWFULS OF THANKFULS & A WEE POEM

Thankful Thursday

Thursday is the day for sharing thankfuls, and we have lots of them today.

Astrid & Lisbeth get to share their thankfuls first.

Astrid thanks her husband Sampy for her birthday card with his photo. She loves how he appears to be reaching out to her in the photo.

Pawfuls of Thankfuls: Birthday cat with a tuxie cat reaching out with his right paw.

Lisbeth thanks her boyfriend, Angel Charles, for her e-card, and Astrid thanks Charles’ family for hers.

Both girls send thanks to everyone who sent them birthday wishes here and on Instagram.

Sawyer is thankful his dad was there for him when he had a seizure Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately, he only made it one week since his last one. But one week is better than one day!

Pawfuls of Thankfuls: grey tabby cat wrapped in a blue towel recovering from a seizure.

Dad Tom and I are thankful that Raleigh and Audrey are doing great! They continue to wear their harnesses for several hours each day and enjoy playtime outside their enclosure. They, however, continue to snooze a lot, as kittens do.

Pawfuls of Thankfuls: brown tabby kitten and orange tabby kitten snuggling.

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by Brian. If you’d like to participate, post on your blog for what you are thankful. Then enter the URL from Brian’s badge in your browser to pop over to Brian’s Home.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Thursday is also poetry day. Angel Sammy and Teddy (Two Spoiled Cats) provide an inspiration photo, and we provide a poem. Here’s today’s photo.

Pawfuls of Thankfuls: huge wave almost engulfs nearby people.

I  have a very short poem to accompany it, and the photo is without a cat. Felines are not fond of water, and I decided not to subject any of the Kitties Blue to this torrent.

Daredevil

Surf’s up, catch a wave, hang ten.
Then get back up and do it again.
Only a surfer could enjoy this wall of water
And not run away; though, he ought to.

To participate in Thoroughly Poetic Thursday, click on the poetry badge. You’ll be taken to Two Spoiled Cats where you can find next week’s inspiration photo. And please read Angel Sammy’s poem when you visit. We know it will terrific!

🎂CELEBRATING ASTRID & LISBETH🎁

Birthday Party Time

Astrid and Lisbeth were just kittens and the youngest of the Kitties Blue when I began The Cat on My Head. They turned one year old a month later. I thought it would be fun to share a few of the birthday cards I made for them in past years.

Here is their birthday card for this year.

2022 birthday card celebrating Astrid (tortie) and Lisbeth (tuxie cat).

If you are unfamiliar with Astrid and Lisbeth’s story, you can check it out on The Felines page by clicking the tab at the top of this page. The short version is that they were both born on August 17, 2011, but they are not related. They were, however, raised together along with Lisbeth’s littermates and Astrid’s brother, Bobby, by Lisbeth’s mother.

Cooper Murphy, of course, made them a special cake.

Lisbeth & Astrid's birthday cake feature a star and a crown.

Please join our birthday girls and all the Kitties Blue as we celebrate. We have the cake as well as shrimp, nip ice cream, champagne and berry ice tea.

Thanks for joining our celebration today.

Black Cat Appreciation Day

Before signing off, we’d like to give a shout out to all our black cat friends, as today is Black Cat Appreciation Day. Years ago we had two black cats, Thelma and Twinkle. I’ve wanted another black cat for many years, but it has just never happened. But I still appreciate their beauty. Best wishes to every black cat everywhere.

INDEPENDENCE DAY 2022 SPARK

Sparks

Independence Day 2022 Spark: Quote from post body from Cavell on a red, white and blue, stars and stripes background.

The author of today’s quote was not an American, but none of us, regardless of nationality, should hold hatred or bitterness in our hearts.

Edith Louisa Cavell was a British nurse. During World War I, Cavell saved the lives of soldiers from both sides without discrimination and helped some 200 Allied soldiers escape from German-occupied Belgium. She was arrested under martial law and accused of treason. Cavell was found guilty by a court-martial and sentenced to death. Despite international pressure for mercy, she was shot by a German firing squad on October 12, 1915, at age 49. Her execution received worldwide condemnation.

The night before her execution is when she said, “Patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred or bitterness towards anyone.”

Sparks is the creation of Annie from McGuffy’s Reader. Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend. Annie stated when she began Sparks, “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world.”

Awww Mondays

Too much birthday celebrating?

Grey, Manx (tailless) tabby cat sleeping on his face.

Sawyer is participating in the Awww Mondays blog hop at Comedy Plus. I think he is always awww-adorable!

The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky

Your favorite cartoon tabbies, Periwinkle and Stinky, will be taking their next adventure tomorrow. These two comical and fun-loving youngsters visit all types of interesting places and have oodles of fun when they’re together. One of the best things is that they enjoy taking you along with them, so please plan to meet them right here tomorrow!

🎂SAWYER’S 5TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION🎁

Feline & Friendship Friday Birthday

Today we are having a big celebration to mark Sawyer’s firth birthday. Last year at this time, he was on his walkabout and unable to celebrate until he was home safe three weeks later.

I made this collage with Sawyer’s first photo from when he joined the family. It’s in the upper left corner. The others were selected as they represent Sawyer on the dates closest to his birthday as well as one of his first photos after he returned home last year. It’s in the lower left corner. The upper right is the last photo before he went missing.

Probably the happiest birthday Sawyer had was in 2019 when he caught a mouse!

Sawyer's 5th birthday: Collage of seven photos of grey tabby cat as well as birthday graphics.

When Sawyer first started having seizures, they were extremely bad and uncontrollable. We made several trips to the emergency vet in the middle of the night, and we almost lost him at least once. We honestly feared he would not live to see this birthday. Then, of course, when he took off last year, we never expected to see him again. That he was spotted and we got him home was a true miracle.

So today is special. Happy birthday little guy. You mean the world to us, Noelle and all your friends around the world.

Cooper Murphy, of course, made a cake. It looks almost exactly like baby Sawyer.

We’ve also got lots of noms and drinks, so please help yourselves and stay as long as you like.

There also are toys to play with and to take home.

Sawyer's 5th birthday: felt fish toys and crocheted mouse toys

Sawyer will be joining both the Feline Friday and Friendship Friday blog hops at Comedy Plus and Create With Joy respectively.

What’s Coming Up

Astrid was supposed to share photos of her anniversary gifts and Kizmet of her birthday gift today, but they will do that sometime next week. Sawyer has a gift waiting from Noelle, and he’ll share that next week as well. Friendly Fill-Ins will be included with our Caturday Art tomorrow. And, of course, we’ll have our usual Sunday Selfies post.

Thanks for joining us today and helping us celebrate.

KITTIES CELEBRATE 2ND BIRTHDAY & 6TH ANNIVERSARY

Thankful Thursday

Today is a big day at our house with a birthday and an anniversary to celebrate.

Sixth Anniversary

birthday & anniversary: collage with two heart-shaped photos, one of a tortie cat and one of a tuxie cat

Six years ago today Astrid and Sampy (Sampson Hall) were married at the Blog Paws Conference. You can see the wedding post at “Introducing the Newlyweds.”  In celebration, we have a card and cake (baked by Cooper Murphy) for them.

birthday & anniversary: sixth anniversary card with wedding cat couple, a heart and flowers

birthday & anniversary: two-tiered, square cake with lavender flowers

We all offer our best wishes to this sweet and adorable couple. We are thankful they found each other and that we are able to celebrate with them today.

Second Birthday

Today Kizmet turns two. She’s officially no longer a kitten; though, she is still full of kitten energy! And she continues to act like a monkey. We also have a card and another cake from Cooper Murphy for her.

birthday & anniversary: birth and party favorsday card with photo of grey cat

birthday & anniversary: pick and white cake with macarons and a grey fondant cat for decorations

We are truly thankful we adopted Kizmet. She has brought hours of laughter and love into our lives. We never know what mischief she’s going to get up to. She has a special birthday gift on its way, which we think will bring her oodles of fun and lots of entertainment for Dad Tom, me and her fursibs. I’ll make certain she tells you all about it and shares photos.

Please join us as we celebrate. Help yourselves to cake and champagne or lemonade. And stay as long as you like.

As Kitties Blue and I do each week, we thank you for your support and friendship. These are the best gifts any of us can receive.

To participate in the Thankful Thursday blog hop, hosted by Brian, enter the URL for his site in your browser.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

With apologies to Teddy and Angel Sammy, I didn’t write a poem today. I will include one in tomorrow’s post or share it as a stand-alone post.

🎂 HAPPY BIRTHDAY SELFIE 🎂

Sunday Selfies: Week #392

Today is our dad’s birthday. We have promised not to tell his age, so we’ll just say that he’s been on this earth for three-quarters of a century. As we are cats and cannot count, we have no idea how long that actually is.

We wanted to do something extra special to celebrate, so we gathered together (minus one of us) to sing a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday.

happy birthday selfie

Did you say that you are unable to hear is? Okay…we’ll try to sing louder!

As you can see a certain tortie is missing from the choir. She can decide to assert her tortitude at the most inopportune times. She said she didn’t want to be part of the group but would be doing something special on her own. What a diva! We guess we better see what she has done.

happy birthday selfie

Well, that is pretty nice, but we still think she shouldn’t be so capricious.

Our dad really is one of the very best cat dads. He feeds us, gives out treaties and is the World’s Best Poop and Pee Scooper. Mom also does the first two, but the last is all Dad. And we all know how important that job is.

All of us, including Mom and Astrid, hope you will leave a comment and wish our dad a happy birthday!

Hopping Time

Now it is your turn to join in the fun by adding your selfie to the blog hop. Even if we are occupied showing our dad how much we love him, we still want to see your adorableness represented here. And don’t forget, you can join up anytime through Thursday.

Please don’t be shy about asking your friends to join in the fun. A party is always better with lots of participants.

Thanks for your continued friendship and support.
