HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO C.J.

An Awww Mondays Birthday Celebration

I knew Calista Jo’s birthday was on the horizon, but didn’t realize we had inadvertently passed it by a couple of days. She doesn’t know we are late. If she did, she would be complaining non-stop. Complaining, in a high-pitched whine, is what she does best.

Calista Jo joined the Kitties Blue crew shortly after I began this blog. She was our second Barn Cat Buddy (BCB) adoption. She was a member of a litter of four cats (three girls and one boy). Her name at the time was Josette (Josie for short), which didn’t really suit her. But more about that later.

C.J. and her sisters were at a BCB adoption event. I attended in order to drop off catnip toys, which at the time I was making for the group to sell. I was attracted to Josie, and told my friend Diane (the founder and President of BCB at that time), that if no one else wanted to adopt her, I might be interested. By the time I left the event, a couple and their teenage son had completed an adoption application for Josie. I have always believed if something is meant to happen it will, so I went home with no regrets.

A few days later, I got a call from Diane. The adoption application for Josie had not been approved. She would be coming to the house to deliver her. It was meant to be after all.

Here is the official announcement of her arrival with some cute kitten photos: “New Barn Cat Buddy Joins Blue Household.”

Renaming

We decided to keep Josette as our new kitten’s middle name. None of the names on my list of potential cat names, however, seemed to fit with it. While running names through my brain, Calista popped into it and stuck. As they say, the rest is history, and Calista Josette has now reached the age of 14.

Let’s Party

As we always do, we asked our resident baker, Cooper Murphy, to create a cake for C.J. Once again, I think he outdid himself.

A Birthday Spark

A dilute tortoise shell cat celebrates her birthday with a Spark from Madeleine L'Engle and a current photo of herself and one as a kitten for Awww Mondays.

I did use this Spark six years ago, but it seemed appropriate again.

The author, Madeleine L’Engle (1918 – 2007), was an American writer of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and young adult fiction. She’s best known for A Wrinkle in Time and its sequels.

KINDNESS MATTERS SPARK

Sparks/Awww Mondays

I used a similar photo a few weeks ago, but it also included Cooper Murphy. The biggest surprise, however, is that Raleigh is back for the second day in a row. That is a big deal!

A peach-colored tabby cat and a white and black kitten snuggle tiger and share a Spark from Joseph B. Wirthlin, "Kindness is a passport that opens doors and fashions friends. It softens hearts and molds relationships that can last lifetimes."

I think the importance of kindness is being overlooked currently by too many people. I believe deeply in this Spark and do my best to practice kindness. And I know those of you who blog about pets truly are the kindest and most compassionate human beings. However, maybe someone else will see this and think twice before saying or doing something hurtful.

The author of today’s Spark, Joseph Bitner Wirthlin (1917 – 2008), was an American businessman, religious leader and member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). As a member of the Quorum, Wirthlin was accepted by the church membership as a prophet, revelator and seer.

Today is National Best Friends Day. Consequently, I searched for a representative Spark. I found a plethora of wonderful ones. Along with sharing the one I selected, I must thank those of you who, through my many years of blogging, have become dear and cherished friends. You have made my life so much happier and better. JOY, GRATITUDE & CATNIP

Dad Tom got some catnip plants on Caturday and gave the kittens some sprigs on Sunday. Cooper Murphy and Raleigh quickly took over the nip, and this was the result. Audrey waits in the background for a turn with the nip that would never come to pass.

The Spark is a rather simple one, but appropriate I think. The author, Karl Barth (1986-1968), was a Swiss Reformed theologian. Barth was featured on the cover of Time magazine on April 20, 1962. According to BibleHub, the “article highlighted Barth’s lifelong commitment to doctrinal clarity and moral courage. It covered his resistance to Nazi ideology in the 1930s, when he stood with the Confessing Church against state control of the gospel.” Additionally, “it touched on his monumental work, Church Dogmatics, which sought to set Christian teaching under the lordship of God’s self-disclosure.”

My Spark today may not exactly represent Memorial Day, but I still found it appropriate for the current state of life in the USA.

History does seem fated to repeat itself. It may be in a slightly different manner, but I think we can all agree that the violence, racial profiling and anti-semitism currently plaguing our country as well as the war against Iran needs to end.

As we remember those who died for our freedom, I will be praying for peace in the United States and around the world.

CATIO KITTENS AGAIN & A FREEDOM & JUSTICE SPARK

The kittens are back again today enjoying some catio time.

Tali is a fan of the very highest perch available. Gibbs has his eyes closed at the moment, but he is in the prime bird watching spot. The bird feeders are right outside the catio adjacent to that perch.

Usually I have a message in mind when I select a Spark to share. When I don’t, I often check for those born on the date of my post. That is what I have done today. April 27 is the birthdate of Coretta Scott King. After reading through a long list of her quotes, I found one that speaks to me and reflects the times in which we currently live. I think you will agree it is appropriate.

CATIO KITTEN & SPARK ON AGING

Awww Mondays

We have been having extremely hot temperatures for April, so the catio is fully occupied most days. Usually, I am sharing photos of the boys on the catio, but Tali is a huge fan as well.

Our temperatures will be plummeting the next few days with the temperature tonight and Tuesday morning predicted to be at freezing. That isn’t supposed to last, however. I know all the Kitties Blue will be happy for that.
