LIFE RESTORING LOVE

Sparks

With Valentine’s Day tomorrow, I wanted a Spark about love. When I found this one from Lydia Marie Child, it “spoke” to me.

Photo of a bright red male cardinal with the following quote from Lydia Marie Child: The cure for all the ills and wrongs, the cares, the sorrows, and the crimes of humanity, all lie in the one word 'love'. It is the divine vitality that everywhere produces and restores life.

Dad Tom took the photo yesterday when we were having non-stop rain. We have several male and female cardinals that visit our yard and bird feeders daily.

Whether they symbolize love, loyalty or are embraced as spiritual messengers, cardinals are conspicuous in mythology and literature through the centuries. Many individuals believe cardinals appear as messengers from Heaven bringing love and comfort when loved ones have passed away. In Native American lore, cardinals represent devotion, loving relationships, courtship and monogamy. In Christianity cardinals and the blood of Jesus are used as the symbols of everlasting vitality. At Christmas their presence is seen to represent hope and joy. And seeing a bright red cardinal means that the individual is being blessed with good luck and fortune.

So I think this photo is the perfect backdrop for today’s Spark.

I found the author of today’s Spark, Lydia Maria Child, to be particularly interesting. She lived from 1802 to 1880 and was an American abolitionist, women’s rights activist, Native American rights activist, novelist and journalist. In spite of her long list of accomplishments, she may be best known for her poem “Over the River and Through the Wood.”

Sparks is the creation of Annie from McGuffy’s Reader. Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend. Annie stated when she began Sparks, “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world.”

The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky

Those two fun-loving tabbies, Periwinkle & Stinky, will be setting off on their next adventure tomorrow. As it will be Valentine’s Day, I suspect Stinky has something special planned for his lovely lady, Periwinkle. You can join them right here, and they certainly hope you will. They always have more fun when you tag along. So, please drop by and lend them a hand or paw in whatever they get up to! They’ll be waiting for you.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CXXVI

A Look Back

Stinky waits for Periwinkle by the tunnel as he usually does. He hopes Periwinkle remembers they are having a home-based adventure. He doesn’t want her to be disappointed.  When he hears the familiar whoosh, and she tumbles out, Stinky grabs her in his paws and gives her a big whisker kiss. He notices she is wearing a backpack and asks her about it.

Periwinkle replies, “I know we are adding to our adventure scrapbook today, and my mom sent along some supplies.”

“Wow that’s great. With what my mom set out, we should have lots of cool things to use. We have everything set out on the dining room table.”

“I know you didn’t get to help with the scrapbook pages your mom and I made the day before you came home from your walkabout, and some of our readers may not have seen them. They can find those here. That was our 93rd Adventure; though, you weren’t here to share it.”

“Periwinkle, I can hardly believe it, but this is our 126th Adventure. I know I have forgotten some of them. This will be a nice opportunity to revisit a few. Where do you think you’d like to start?”

Bacon Camp

“We definitely need a page for Bacon Camp where we went with our friend, Teddy from Two Spoiled Cats,” Periwinkle tells Stinky.

‘Well, there’s one I absolutely don’t remember,” Stinky replies.”Let’s see if we can find some photos.”

“I know Teddy will really enjoy seeing that page,” exclaims Stinky.

Kennedy Space Center

“One of my very favorite adventures, Periwinkle, is when you took me to the Kennedy Space Center”

“Great choice, Stinky!”

Party Time

Periwinkle & Stinky scrapbook - remembering some past parties“I have enjoyed some of our parties,” replies Periwinkle. The two shuffle through their photos and find one’s they like.

  • Stinky had a tea party for Periwinkle with some of his friends from Kitties Blue yard.
  • The tabbies planned a Gotcha Day Party for Cooper Murphy.
  • Stinky threw a Gotcha Day Party for Periwinkle & Kizmet.

“Stinky, what are some of your other favorites?”

Theme Parks

“I enjoyed the theme parks, as I got to take you to one called Periwinkle Park. And we got to meet the Sesame Street characters at Sesame Street Land. We also went to two Dr. Seuss Parks: the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden and Seuss Landing at Universal Studios.”

“Periwinkle, I was just looking back at the pages you and my Mom made, and they sure a fancier than what we are doing. I think I need to step up my game. I’m just not as artistic as you two are.”

Periwinkle gives Stinky a big hug and tells him, “Stinky, don’t be silly. It’s about the memories, not the format or artistic quality.”

Halloween

“Stinky, we can’t forget Halloween. We always have fun dressing up, plus we get to visit Walter and the black cats every year and take the supplies they need.”

“And last year we got to go to a pumpkin patch and pick out our own pumpkins to decorate,” Stinky reminds her.

Mill Mountain Zoo

“How about the zoo, Periwinkle? That was a great adventure meeting all those cool animals!”

“That’s is a great one Stinky. It took us two posts to show everything, and your Mom won a Certificate of Excellence from the Cat Writers’ Association for our story. I think that makes us two extra special tabby cats.”

Stinky giggles and blushes, but shakes his head in agreement.

The Red Dot

“Periwinkle, your mom told me that you really had fun when we celebrated Dot Day and Felt Hat Day at your house, so let’s make a page for that.”

“Thanks, Stinky. I really did have fun that day, and I think we looked fabulous in our hats.”

“I agree Periwinkle, but then we always clean up nicely, except for maybe the time we helped my mom in the yard.”

They both giggle at the memory.

Baking With Mau

Stinky tells Periwinkle that he has a final adventure he would like to share, as it includes his big brother as well as the cake Periwinkle made him for one of his Gotcha Days.

Besides that, he think they look particularly cute in their chefs hats.

“Wow, this has been fun,” Periwinkle tells Stinky. “Maybe every six months or so, we can make more pages. Eventually we can have a really big scrapbook to look at whenever we want.”

“I like that plan, Periwinkle.”

The tabbies agree that their paws are tired from all the cutting and pasting and that it’s time for a snack and visit with Stinky’s fursibs.

Both Periwinkle and Stinky are disappointed when it is time for Periwinkle to head home, but they agree it has been fun revisiting some past adventures. Stinky escorts Periwinkle to the teleportation tunnel where they share lots of paw hugs and whisker kisses. After several minutes, it’s time for Periwinkle’s departure, and she is gone with a final wave and whoosh!

Stinky retires for a nap in the bed Periwinkle gave him for Christmas.

The End
