EARTH DAY 2023 WITH KITTIES BLUE

Earth Day Caturday Art

Earth Day graphic with a globe, tree and banner, which reads, "Earth Day," & the nine Kitties Blue.

World Earth Day is a global awareness celebrated every year on April 22. The reason to participate in this event is to enhance the public’s awareness of our earth and environment. Though, celebrated only one day each year; every day should be considered Earth Day. All citizens should take measures to protect our planet.

The first Earth Day (1970) sparked the passage in the U.S. of the Clean Air, Clean Water and Endangered Species Acts as well as the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency.

EARTHDAY.ORG’s theme for Earth Day 2023 is Invest in our Planet™. This is a continuation of the 2022 theme. The theme is focused on involving governments, institutions, businesses and Earth’s more than one billion citizens who participate in Earth Day annually, to focus on natural processes, emerging green technologies and innovative thinking that can restore the world’s ecosystems.

Climate change is real, and it is time to take immediate action if we are to avoid mass extinction of species, catastrophic pollution of the world’s oceans, destruction of communities and displacement of millions of individuals.

Please commit to helping with this cause by reducing your carbon footprint, embracing alternative forms of energy and recycling, reusing and repurposing. Kitties Blue mom and dad have 40-plus solar panels on the roof of their home and always recycle. Also, Dad Tom bikes everywhere when the weather permits.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

It’s that time again tomorrow. Time for you to snap a selfie and share it with us and all your friends. As usual, I’ll be trying to coerce one of the Kitties Blue into participating. As today is supposed to be mostly rainy, I suppose they’ll all be hanging out in the bedroom. That should make it easy to find either a willing or unwilling host. Whichever of the gang ends up here tomorrow, I can guarantee you’ll be greeted with open paws.

Thanks for joining us today, enjoy your Caturday and do something good for the Earth.

EARTH DAY CATURDAY ART

Thanks to Astrid and two devious groundhogs, I didn’t get a post written yesterday. Because of that, our art today is representative of what we would have posted yesterday.

Caturday Art

Our Earth is about 4.54 billion years old. The National Center for Science Education has been able to determine this approximate age through dating rocks and meteorites found here on Earth. Today our planet is at risk from warming temperatures, pollution, drought, wildfires, floods, melting glaciers, rising sea levels, tornados and hurricanes.

Kitties Blue are here to remind you that each of us is responsible for doing our best not to compromise our planet. We must preserve it for future generations.

I did make a puzzle for you. It’s pretty easy.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

One of the gang will be here tomorrow to welcome you and host our weekly blog hop. As usual, they invite you to participate and to ask your friends to join in the fun. Your participation, support and friendship is what keeps us posting and sharing the lives, adventures and antics of Kitties Blue.

Have a terrific Caturday.

EARTH DAY 2021 WITH POETRY & THANKFULS

Thankful Thursday

Cooper Murphy has the main thankful this week. On Easter weekend Cat Scouts held a scavenger hunt/quiz and Cooper Murphy came in second place. As the result, he won a super cool prize. He’s now ready for Summer Camp or the next Jamboree or Quest at Scouts, provided the other members of the Kitties Blue crew let him use his prize.

As we are every day, Kitties Blue and I are thankful for each of you who follow, visit and support us. Without you, we would have given up on this blog years ago.

Brian hosts the Thankful Thursday blog hop. If you’d like to participate, post for what you are thankful and then click on Brian’s Badge to go to Brian’s Home and enter your link.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Our hosts for the Thoroughly Poetic Thursday poetry challenge, Angel Sammy and Teddy, have provided the purrfect inspiration photo for today’s poetry, as today is Earth Day. Here’s the photo followed by my poem.

Earth’s Bounty

Beans, peas, tomatoes and corn—
Fresh and tasty, picked just this morn.
No pesticides or growth hormone,
Just the goodness of being home grown.
Spring and summer are filled with tasty delights.
My mouth waters as I anticipate taking a bite.

If you’d like to try your paw at writing some poetry, check out Two Spoiled Cats each Thursday to find the inspiration photo for the following week. You can visit by clicking the badge below. And while there, please read Angel Sammy’s poem. He transmits it to Teddy from the Rainbow Bridge, and it is always first rate.

Earth Day

World Earth Day is a worldwide awareness celebrated every year on April 22. The reason to celebrate this event is to make people aware of our earth and environment. Though celebrated only one day each year, we should consider every day Earth Day and take measures to protect it.

The first Earth Day sparked the passage in the U.S. of the Clean Air, Clean Water and Endangered Species Acts, and the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency.

EARTHDAY.ORG’s theme for Earth Day 2021 is Restore Our Earth™, which focuses on natural processes, emerging green technologies and innovative thinking that can restore the world’s ecosystems. In this way, the theme rejects the notion that mitigation or adaptation are the only ways to address climate change.

And climate change is real. It is impacting our planet and our lives and it is time for action. The urgency has never been greater, and stakes never higher. We face mass extinction of species, catastrophic pollution of oceans, destruction of communities and displacement of millions.

Our tabbies, Periwinkle & Stinky had a terrific adventure of Tuesday. They provided a wealth of information about Earth Day. If you missed their post, click on their graphic to go to Friends Furever and read it.

Thanks for joining us today. Be nice to the earth!

EARTH DAY 2020 WITH MAU

Wordless Wednesday – Earth Day 2020

Earth Day 2020

Today is the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. Mau thought there was no better place to celebrate than the garden.

Earth Day 2020

World Earth Day is a worldwide awareness celebrated every year on April 22. The reason to celebrate this event is to make people aware of our earth and environment. Though celebrated only one day each year, we should consider every day Earth Day and take measures to protect it.

The first Earth Day sparked the passage in the U.S. of the Clean Air, Clean Water and Endangered Species Acts, and the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency. Under our current Administration, climate change is being denied and many of our environmental protections have been minimized or completely ignored.

But climate change is real. It is impacting our planet and our lives and it is time for action. The urgency has never been greater, and stakes never higher. We face mass extinction of species, catastrophic pollution of oceans, destruction of communities and displacement of millions.

Earth Day 2020

Through 24 hours on Earth Day 2020, EARTHDAY.ORG will drive actions big and small giving diverse voices a platform to demand bold action for people and the planet.

In addition to celebrating Earth Day, Mau is joining the Wordless Wednesday blog hop at Comedy Plus.

ASTRID’S MAGICAL PLACE

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Today’s inspiration photo, selected by Teddy and angel Sammy’s Mom, Pam, is beautiful and contains so many things to spark one’s imagination. I originally had planned to write a Haiku, as the photo said more than a bunch of words ever could. But then, Astrid got her paws on the computer. Once she started typing, she just couldn’t stop. Her poem became more of a short story, and she has her paws crossed that you enjoy it.

Here’s the photo.

A Magical Place

Are my eyes deceiving me?
This wasn’t here a moment ago.
I think I must be dreaming.
That’s it! This has to be a dream.
But I don’t feel as if I’m asleep.
But how could I be on earth,
Yet see it so clearly in the distance?
Is someone playing a trick on me?
Do they want me to think I’m delusional?
No…this must be real.
My paw pads are burning from this hot sand.
And I am really, really thirsty.
In fact, I feel as if I might faint.
That wouldn’t happen if I were sleeping.
I wonder if those other cats are real?
Maybe they can help me figure this out.
“Here, kitty, kitty, kitty.”
Why didn’t that work? That’s how Mom
Calls kitties she doesn’t know.
“Hey you, cat, can you hear me?”
Why are they ignoring me?
Maybe I’m really here but invisible.
Is that even possible?
Was I sucked into some kind of black hole?
Let’s see, what’s the last thing I remember.
Breakfast…check. Watching squirrels…check.
Napping in the sun on the catio…check.
I’ve got it…sunstroke…I fried my brain!
Yikes…how can I fix that?
Do Mom and Dad know?
I wonder if they can straighten this out?
Hey, what was that?
Who’s smacking me on the head?

Astrid speaking out loud: “Cooper Murphy is that you?
You look fuzzy and your stripes are all wavy.
Are you really here, or am I imagining you?
What happened to me? Am I alive?
Why aren’t you answering me?”
Oh cwap…am I dead? I never thought of that.
Did Misty May finally whack me?”

Cooper Murphy speaking out loud: “You’re not dead, but you are a doofus.
You burrowed so far into Mom’s neck
That you passed out cold from lack of oxygen.
Maybe you should come up for air sometimes.”

Wowzers, that sure scared me. That place
Was nice, but I wouldn’t want to live there.
I didn’t smell any stinky goodness or treaties,
And those other cats were not friendly;
Though, they didn’t try to beat me up.
It was beautiful, and interesting, however,
And I wouldn’t mind visiting again,
If I could take my sweet husband, Sampy,
An umbrella for shade and a picnic basket
Filled with shrimpies, nip wine and Temptations.
Then that magical place would be purrfect!

Thankful Thursday

Kitties Blue always have oodles of things for which they are thankful. Astrid received some super cool gifts this week from husband Sampy (Kitty Cat Chronicles) for their anniversary. She’ll share those in another post.

This week the gang is most thankful for boxes. Of course, they are always thankful for boxes, but we’ve had a bonanza of them lately. Dad Tom and I are getting ready to begin a home addition and lots of goodies have been arriving, like tile and light fixtures.  And everyone is enjoying trying them out, either inside or out.

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by everyone’s pal, Brian. To join in, post for what you are thankful, and then click on his badge and enter your post link on his blog.

I usually like to explain how I’ve done my art, but I tinkered so much in PicMonkey, piZap and Picasa, that I lost track of what I did. I can tell you that I used the azalea photo from yesterday’s post as an overlay for the following photo of Misty May. If nothing else the photos represent the beauty and colorfulness of spring.

Today is Earth Day. To continue to enjoy the natural resources and beauty of our planet, like these azaleas, we all need to support and adopt the practices of Reduce/Reuse/Recycle/Restore/Replenish. Please make a contract with yourself to work 100 percent of the time to embrace and practice these planet-saving habits.

Cat4-001Sunday Selfies

Here’s your reminder that it’s time for you to snap a selfie for tomorrow’s blog hop. I am not certain who will be hosting as all the kitties are less than happy with Dad Tom and me. When eight cats of varied, and in some cases multiple (Lily Olivia), purrsonalities are shut into the kitchen to await Dr. Neel and the indignities of annual exams and vaccines, one cannot expect to be liked. In fact, I may have to go out and scare up a guest host from the neighborhood. You’ll need to drop in tomorrow to find out.

Please join Kitties Blue as we celebrate Earth Day 2016. Earth Day is all about preserving our planet and not squandering our resources. If we all work together to reduce our carbon footprints by following the five “Rs,” we can save our earth for future generations.

Here are some facts about Earth Day:

  • Earth Day is nearing its 50th anniversary. The now-worldwide holiday was founded in 1970 by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson, of Wisconsin.
  • Earth Day is now observed around the world with activities celebrating the environment and fighting for its preservation.
  • The Earth Day Network has launched an effort to plant 7.8 billion trees (one for every person on earth). Its theme for Earth Day 2016 is “Trees for Earth.”
  • This year’s Earth Day will be marked by the signing of the Paris Agreement that came out of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in December 2015. The United States is one of 120 countries set to sign the agreement.

Other ways to help save our earth, as well as lives, are ones of which you are all familiar:

ADOPT

SPAY/NEUTER

TNR

We need to reduce the numbers of unwanted animals and stop the euthanization of healthy, adoptable animals. We can do this by being responsible pet parents and advocates for those animals needing our help and protection.

So when you think of Earth Day and about what you can do for our planet, remember the animals inhabiting the earth and do all you can to help those who cannot speak for or take care of themselves.

Thank you.

Purrs and paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

In celebration of Earth Day, I am sharing a few photos of our yard. We live in the city on a lot and a half, and so I have ample space for flower beds. I apologize for things looking rather untidy. I haven’t had much opportunity for gardening this spring.

The final photo is of Calista Jo enjoying a little of the local fauna…one of our resident squirrels.

Have a glorious day and please take good care of our earth by recycling, reusing and repurposing.
