BLOG THE CHANGE FOR ANIMALS WITH BARN CAT BUDDIES

BLOGTHECHANGE

As part of Blog the Change, we are excited to share the following information with you from Barn Cat Buddies (Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo’s alma mater).

Thanks to a generous grant from the McCausland Foundation, Barn Cat Buddies announces The FREE Feline FIX! The goal is to spay/neuter/rabies vaccinate approximately 600 felines this winter totally FREE to cat/kitten owners AND caretakers of managed colonies. The mission is to hugely impact the number of litters that would be surrendered to local pounds and shelters this spring and summer.

Making this an incredible offering for cat owners/caretakers is the lack of restrictions to taking advantage of this opportunity.

1. No income requirement.
2. No zip code requirement
3. No limit to the number of cats per household and
4. Open to community (feral) cats as long as a caretaker is feeding and monitoring the cat or colony.

PLEASE NOTE: This grant ONLY covers the cost of a spay or neuter, rabies vaccine and ear tip for cats in traps. The surgeries will be performed at Angels of Assisi (our Santa Kitty Toy Hop recipients). If the Assisi medical staff determines a feline needs additional medical treatment, that is the responsibility of the pet owner. To apply simply call the Barn Cat Buddies hotline at 504-344-8707 ext. 3* do not leave your message on Assisi’s line please.

Please spread the word through social media!

THAT FACE, THAT FACE, THAT SWEET, ADORABLE FACE

swizzle collage-001

Once again, I am sharing the lovely and adoptable Swizzle, who I sponsor at PAWS. Her face “spoke” to me the moment I saw her photo. And she has become very special to me as meowmeowmans (Kevin Hatori), Animal Shelter Volunteer Life, continues to check on her for me and send photos and updates.

I know she is only one in a world filled with kitties longing to have a loving and forever home, but I feel as her sponsor that I have accepted the responsibility to assist her in finding that one special place and person to call her own. If she could tolerate a home with eight fursibs, I would hop in the car and bring her home to Virginia from Connecticut.

Swizzle was originally adopted from PAWS but returned as her pet parent could not take her along when moving to a no-pets-allowed home. She is six years old and loves to be brushed, petted and rubbed behind the ears. She will reward the giver of this attention with purrs. Please click here to read her complete profile. You just may not be able to resist that face and find the love of your life.

Once again I am participating in Athena and Maria’s Caturday Art Blog Hop. To create this photo, I started with Picasa and added the HDR-ish filter to the original photo. I then headed over to EnjoyPic and added that photo to the collage. I then reloaded it into Picasa and used the Comic Book filter. I am quite partial to anything with this soft and ethereal look and hope all of you like it as well. To participate or see the other submissions, click on the badge.

Tomorrow will be our Sunday Selfies Blog Hop. You do not have to be a cat to enter. All critters are welcome as are your humans. And I promise the kitties will do a better job of visiting and commenting on the blogs of all who enter. Their dad and I were out of town last weekend, and the kitties and I still haven’t gotten caught up with our visiting and commenting. Hope you can forgive us!

SWIZZLE’S OUT OF THIS WORLD SUNDAY SELFIES

SwizzleSelfies

If you haven’t met her, this is our honorary sisfur, Swizzle. She is one of the kitties at PAWS in Connecticut. Kitties Blue and I have set it up so that we will be sponsoring her on a continuing basis until she finds a home.

Isn’t she a beauty? I must thank meowmeowmans (Kevin – Animal Shelter Volunteer Life) for once again helping her take her selfies. When he and his family are at the shelter, they visit and give her extra love and skritches from me.

But like all shelter kitties, Swizzle really wants and needs her own loving home. She is six years old and was returned to PAWS by her original owner who moved to a place that does not allow pets. Please click HERE to read Swizzle’s bio on the PAWS web-site.

Swizzle is participating in our Sunday Selfies Blog Hop and invites you to join us. If you’d like to use the link code to include the hop on your blog, I only ask that you display our badge and/or link back to us.

Apology to Mauricio

I had promised Mauricio that he could report on his surprise birthday party at Cat Scouts yesterday for Man-Cat Monday. Unfortunately, I was feeling a bit “under the weather” and wasn’t able to help with the typing. His post has been rescheduled for Friday.

Sunday Selfies Thank You

I want to express my appreciation to everyone who joined, supported and promoted our blog hop again on Sunday. Woofies, kitties, and our favorite bun, Speedy, submitted some pawsome selfies. I am delighted to report that I think enough submissions (only a couple fewer this week) are being received to make this a permanent feature of The Cat on My Head.

SUNDAY SELFIES: PEEK-A-BOO SWIZZLE

swizzle selfie peek-a-boo

Peek-a-boo, I see you! Can you see me?

It’s Honorary Kitty Blue, Swizzle. My furiend, meowmeowmans, helped me take this selfie.

I am still available for adoption at PAWS. I’m six years old, spayed, current on all my vaccinations and I’ve tested negative for FIV and FeLV.

Though Kitties Blue have promised to sponsor me until I get adopted, I sure would like a home of my very own. Click here to visit me.

And don’t forget that this is a Sunday Selfies Blog Hop. All the Kitties Blue hope you will enter your selfie below.

Purrs and paw-pats, Swizzle

HONORARY KITTY #3: MEET SWIZZLE

Inspired by Sparkle‘s mom, Janiss, our mom decided to sponsor a kitty from PAWS (Pet Animal Welfare Society, Inc.) of Connecticut and welcome her as an Honorary Kitty Blue. We have a full house here, and the only way Mom can add any kitties to our furmily is by making them an honorary member.

Honorary Sisfur Swizzle

Honorary Sisfur Swizzle

While viewing the photos of all the kitties available for adoption from PAWS, one particular lady stole her heart. Her name is Swizzle and she is six years old. We think she looks quite like one of us and one of our angels as well. What do you think? Click here to see our entire furmily.

This past weekend, Dad Kevin (meowmeowmans) from Animal Shelter Volunteer Life spent some time with Swizzle giving her extra snuggles and attention for Mom and taking some photos for us.

Swizzle was adopted from Paws with her sisfur when they were eight weeks old. Swizzle lost her sisfur some time ago and has been lonely. She’s back at Paws now as her human had to move to a place that does not allow pets.

This is what Swizzle has to say about herself: I have tons of love to bestow on a new person. I just love to be brushed and petted! Sometimes I’m playful and love the track ball. Mostly I’m happy to just sit next to you. Rub behind my ears and I’ll purr happily with my head against your leg. I don’t mind being picked up, but I’m not a lap cat. I do not like dogs at all. I’ve lived with older children (tweens). I can be tolerant of other cats, but nobody can replace my sisfur. I’m indoors only. I do not like loud noises and can be jumpy at times.

Swizzle had a bit of a haircut to remove matted fur.

Swizzle does admit to having some litter box issues since losing her sisfur. It has been determined that this is a behavioral problem. Finding love and a new home may be just what she needs to correct this behavior.

Sizzle is spayed, current on all her vaccinations and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.

Mom plans to sponsor Swizzle until she finds her furever home. If, like our mom, you fall in love with Swizzle and think she would be a purrfect addition to your furmily, click on the link in the first paragraph.

We will give you periodic updates here as to how Swizzle is doing.

Purrs and paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

p.s. Don’t forget to join us tomorrow for our Blogoversary Thank Yous and the announcement of the giveaway winners. You have until 8 a.m. today to leave a comment and have your name entered in the drawings.

SAL EVERYBODY’S PAL BOOK REVIEW

Sal Everybody's Pal- Sal finds a Forever HomeThis is the sweetest and most beautiful little book, and I am delighted to recommend it.

Sal Everybody’s Pal is an adoption story as told by the author’s (Diana Alvear) cat, Sal (Salvatore Valentino). It is perfect for all ages, even the youngest child who requests a story at bedtime.

Art Prints!-Sal, Stormy, or Lucky !Sal watches as his friends at the animal shelter, Stormy and Lucky, get adopted and leave for their forever homes. And though he cheers them on, he too yearns for the same thing. At the conclusion of the story, Sal gets his wish.

We all know that not every cat is fortunate enough to leave the shelter so Diana’s motivation to write this story is an important one. Her hope is to teach children to adopt pets (especially older ones) from shelters and rescue groups…and more importantly to teach them that “all animals deserve love, respect and forever homes.” These, of course, are lessons for all age groups.

Sal Everybody's Pal- Sal finds a Forever Home

Stormy

The story is heart-warming in itself but is made even better by the exquisite hand-painted, watercolor illustrations created by Chandler Strange.

Diana hopes to create a legacy for Sal, a special needs kitty, (who was her “soul kitty” and by her side for eight years before passing away as an elderly cat) by helping other homeless animals. Ten percent of the book’s profits will go to animal rescue groups and volunteers.

This beautiful book, as well as additional products, are available at www.salpals.com for $12.99 (hardcover) or $3.99 (Kindle version). One lucky reader of The Cat on My Head will win their very own pawtographed copy by leaving a Comment on our 2nd Blogoversary post one week from today (July 21). It will come with an adorable bookmark and decal as well.

Diana plans to follow-up in the future with additional books and other products.

I was so pleased to receive two pawtographed copies of Sal Everybody’s Palone for myself to review and one to give away to one of our readers. I was in no way, however, told what to say. My recommendation of this book represents my true belief that it is worthy of being read and gifted.
