FLAG DAY SPECIAL SELFIE

Flag Day

Cat Scout Mauricio is doing a special Sunday Selfie for us today in honor of Flag Day. Cat Scouts will be celebrating this impawtant day with members giving reports about their state flags.

But today is the official day to celebrate our American Flag. The idea of an annual day to celebrate the Flag is thought to have originated in 1885. B.J. Cigrand, a schoolteacher in the Fredonia, Wisconsin Public School District 6, proposed the pupils observe June 14 (the 108th anniversary of the official adoption of our Stars and Stripes) as Flag Birthday.

The official establishment of Flag Day (the anniversary of the Flag Resolution of 1777), however, did not happen unril May 30, 1916, with a Proclamation by President Woodrow Wilson. Flag Day was celebrated in various communities for years after the proclamation, but it was not until August 3, 1949, that President Harry Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14 of each year as National Flag Day.

Here’s the song Scout Mau was singing when he snapped his selfie.

Our Flag

by Linda Brown

(Tune: “Three Blind Mice”)

Stand up tall.
Head up high.

Waving your flag.
Letting it fly.

Our star-spangled banner
Is such a sight,

With thirteen stripes that
Are red and white,

And fifty stars that
Are always bright.

We love our flag!

Cat4-001Wherever you are today and whatever you are doing, we hope you will take just a moment to snap a selfie and share it with us. And please try to visit the blogs of at least some of the other entrants. We have made lots of new friends by way of our blog hop, and you can do the same.

To display the hop on your blog, grab the code below. But please, if you decide to do this, display our badge and/or link back to The Cat on My Head.

Have a great easy Sunday.

With many thanks, purrs and paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Cat Scout Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
