REMEMBER ME THURSDAY® WITH POETRY

Remember Me Thursday® Awareness Movement

 Remember Me Thursday®

We are joining Remember Me Thursday® and have lit a candle at RememberMeThursday.org for our sweet Swizzle again this year. Swizzle is the kitty we continue to sponsor at PAWS of Connecticut. She’s been waiting for more than two years for her new forever home. We pray daily that this sweet and beautiful senior kitty will find the loving human and home she deserves.

The Remember Me Thursday® global awareness campaign encourages individuals to light a candle this day (literally or virtually) and to opt to adopt, reducing the millions of orphan pets euthanized each year.

Candles lit on this day (the fourth Thursday of September annually) across the world honor the pets who lose their lives without the opportunity to know the comforts of a loving home. These candles shine brightly on the millions of healthy pets who are still awaiting adoption—just like beautiful Swizzle.

Remember Me Thursday®

This being Sammy’s (onespoiledcat) Thoroughly Poetic Thursday and the prompt letter for the week being “O”, I have written a poem for orphan kitties.

OPT TO ADOPT ORPHAN CATS

Most of us were orphans at one time,
Whether roaming the streets or shelter confined.
But then one day our luck suddenly changed.
A human stopped in whose heart we would claim.
They took us home to keep us safe forever
With food, shelter and love as our caregiver.
So today, will you please a candle light
And pray for the orphans to not give up the fight,
As they wait and long for their special human
To find them and become their number one fan.

Please join me, other pet-lovers and advocates and animal welfare organizations around the world in lighting your own candle. Visit the link listed in the first paragraph to light your candle and learn more about Remember Me Thursday®. Or light your own candle at home. Just make certain it is either battery operated or in an area your pets cannot access.

SWIZZLICIOUS SUNDAY SELFIE

Sunday Selfies Blog Hop : Week #106

Today we have a guest host, but she isn’t really a guest as she is our honorary sisfur, Swizzle. But as she doesn’t actually live with us, she is sort of a guest.

Whatever you decide to call her, it best include the word beautiful or lovely. Actually not enough superlatives exist to describe her. But we’ll let you decide for yourselves.

PAWS cat Swizzle

Swizzle lives at PAWS of Connecticut. We first introduced you to her more than two years ago on July 24, 2014 when we began sponsoring her. We have written about her many times since then with the hope of finding her a home. We will sponsor her as long as she remains at PAWS even if that is the remainder of her life. But we pray for her that will not be her fate!

Swizzle and all the other PAWS’ kitties are very lucky as our good blogging friends, Tracey and Kevin (meowmeowmans at Animal Shelter Volunteer Life) are volunteers at PAWS. They always give Swizzle extra loving from us, and Kevin sends us photos of her when he can. We received several new ones a couple of days ago. We selected this one for today due to her head tilt and coquettish expression. We have several others which we will share in the coming weeks.

Swizzle would make a great kitty for a senior citizen looking for a special companion. If any of our readers know of someone looking for a mature kitty, please tell them about our honorary sisfur. To learn more about Swizzle, you can visit the PAWS website. You can also see all the posts we have written about her by searching Swizzle on this blog. The search box is at the bottom of our left sidebar.

Cat4-001It’s now your turn to share your selfie or one of an anipal friend or acquaintance on the blog hop. The link is below as is the code to include the hop on your blog. Purrlease link back to The Cat on My Head and/or display our badge if you do this. And let us know in a comment or e-mail if you have any problems linking up. Mom will make sure you are included. Many thanks to everyone who continues to support and pawticipate in our hop!

Now that you’ve taken care of your selfie, kick back, take it easy and enjoy the last day of the Olympics.

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS A FOREVER HOME

Sunday Selfies: Week #69

Swizzle wants a forever home for Christmas.

This is our most beautiful, PAWS (Pet Animal Welfare Society) of Connecticut, honorary Kitty Blue, Swizzle. We have featured her here often, and she is this week’s guest host for Sunday Selfies.

We have been sponsoring Swizzle for more than a year and a half, and she’d really like to have a loving and forever home in time to celebrate Christmas. Can’t you just see her lying under your tree waiting for Santa Paws to visit? What a wonderful Christmas that would make.

You may have seen Swizzle on the Animal Shelter Volunteer Life blog as well. Kevin (meowmeowmans) and Tracey are volunteers at PAWS and have shared her on their blog. The photos above were taken by Kevin. Kitties Blue and I are grateful that Kevin and Tracey visit Swizzle often and, along with other volunteers, give her lots of love. But we believe in our hearts that it is her turn to have the life she deserves in a loving home.

Swizzle was originally adopted from PAWS with her sister, who unfortunately has crossed the Bridge. She was returned to PAWS when her owner had to move to a “no-pets allowed” home. You can read my original post here. You can also visit her on the PAWS website.

Swizzle’s original information stated she was six years old. In reality she is about 11 1/2 years old, which Kevin confirmed in an e-mail to me this evening. I know this lessens her chances of finding a home, but if you have been thinking about adopting a senior kitty, please consider Swizzle. If you cannot provide her with a home, please share wherever you can and tell your friends about her.

Now it’s time for you to add your selfie to the blog hop. We know everyone is very busy with holiday preparations, but it only takes a minute or two to snap your photo. We are truly grateful to all of you who join us each week and always enjoy seeing what you have to offer. Last week besides the usual kitties and woofies and our Canadian donkey guest host, we were joined by a kangaroo, ponies and some ibex.

You can add your link below as well as get the code to post the hop on your blog. If you’d like to do this, I only ask that you display our Sunday Selfies badge and/or link to The Cat on My Head.

ADOPT A SHELTER PET MONTH FEATURING SWIZZLE

  adopt-a-shelter-pet-month

October is Adopt a Shelter Pet Month, and we know a real sweetie who has been waiting way too long for her forever home. Her name is Swizzle, and we introduced you to her in July 2014. She was waiting at PAWS (Pet Animal Welfare Society) of Connecticut for her perfect family to discover her. At that time we began sponsoring her and welcomed her to the family as an honorary Kitty Blue. You can read that original post here. I knew I would continue to sponsor her for as long as it took for her to find that special home; though, I never expected her to be waiting more than a year later.

If you read The Cat on My Head regularly, you know that I have featured Swizzle here several times. Our dear friend Kevin (meowmeowmans) and his wife Tracey visit and give her loving often as well as share photos with me. Kevin kindly featured her just two days ago on his blog, Animal Shelter Volunteer Life. Yet, Swizzle continues to wait. This is what she has to say:

PAWS cat, Swizzle continues to wait for her forever home.

Here’s part of Swizzle’s bio from the PAWS website:

I was adopted from PAWS with my sister when we were just eight weeks old. She passed away some time ago and I’ve been lonely. After six years, I’m back at PAWS because my owner had to move to a place that did not allow pets. I miss my owner. But things can only get better, right?

I have tons of love to bestow on a new person. I just love to be brushed and petted! Sometimes I’m playful, I love the track ball, but mostly, I’m happy to just sit next to you. Rub behind my ears and I’ll purr happily with my head against your leg. What could be better than that? I don’t mind being picked up, but I’m not a lap cat. I do not like dogs at all. I’ve lived with older children (tweens). I can be tolerant of other cats, but nobody can replace my sister. I’m indoors only. I do not like loud noises and can be jumpy at times.

Swizzle is now about eight years old, spayed, FIV/FeLV negative and up-to-date on all of her vaccinations.

If we didn’t have a full house, I’d drive to Connecticut, pick her up and bring her home to Virginia. Since I can’t do this, don’t you have room in your heart and home for his beautiful girl? If not, please share about her with your friends and family and on your blog if you have one. Let’s find this beautiful, sweet and deserving girl a home for the holidays.

MY PET HUMAN BOOK REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

my pet humanIf you are a cat parent, you probably have been adopted by at least one cat sometime in your life. That’s exactly what happens in My Pet Human, written and illustrated by Yasmine Surovec. Though totally in black and white, the simple, yet masterfully drawn illustrations grace all 112-pages, making this a true “picture” book.

As the story begins, we meet Mr. Independent, an adorable, stray, tuxedo cat. He revels in his carefree lifestyle; though, he must remain constantly on the lookout for the animal control officer. Kitty prowls his territory where he has the places he can find and mooch food. And he has friends in the neighborhood, Ben the dog, Farrah the cat and George the mouse, who tell him what it’s like to have a home and humans. But our independent cat has no interest and feels sorry for his friends as they do not have the freedom he finds so satisfying.

When a family moves into an abandoned, neighborhood house, our fellow decides to check things out. Smelling macaroni and cheese topped with tuna through an open window and having missed dinner the night before, puss goes to investigate and meets a young girl.

To find out more about our friendly tuxedo cat, his new family, and how he and the young girl bond and “save” each other, you’ll have to read the book.

Written for six- to ten-year-olds, Surovec’s book is an excellent teaching tool with lessons about cat “rescue” and care. Nonetheless, any adult with a love for cats will enjoy it as well.

SENSATIONAL SWIZZLE’S SELFIE

Our guest host for today’s Sunday Selfies is our very own honorary Kitty Blue, Swizzle. As Adopt a Shelter Cat Month comes to a close we wanted to share this sensational and beautiful adoptable cat from PAWS Connecticut. We have been sponsoring Swizzle since last July and will continue to do so for as long as she remains at PAWS. Of course, our wish is for her to find the purrfect home and family.
