THANKFULS & BUMMER OF A SUMMER

 Thankful Thursday

It is important to be thankful each and everyday, and sharing those Thankfuls on Thursday is a great reminder to always look for the good in every situation. Like I always say, “Believe in Silver Linings.”

This week Audrey is sharing the Kitties Blue thankful.

thankfuls bummer summer: Tabby Cat in a grey tent with a plaid base.

Dad Tom put together the new tent I gave the kitties for Christmas to replace the one Cooper Murphy won years ago at Cat Scouts.  Most of the gang have tried it out. Audrey is a huge fan. Raleigh squeezed in with her at one point and forced her out. Wish I had gotten of photo of them in it together. As kittens, I transferred them to Cooper’s tent when I cleaned out their enclosure. You can see Raleigh and Audrey as adorable little kittens in the old tent on the post, “Spark of Compassion.”

I am thankful our temperature has warmed up after being dreadfully cold day after day. That and the rain we are having is melting what is left of our snow. Yippee! Unfortunately that does mean the sun disappeared, but I always like the warmer weather!

Kitties Blue and I are thankful for all our followers, supporters and friends.

Periwinkle & Stinky are thankful I answered their questions on Tuesday; though, they didn’t love all the answers. If you missed their Adventure this week, click here.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Thursday is also poetry day. Teddy and Angel Sammy from Two Spoiled Cats provided the most hysterical, inspiration photo for this week’s poetry challenge. I had loads of fun writing this one.

Man on a beach covered in bandages and sipping a tropical drink through a straw.

Bummer of a Summer

Summer vacation is supposed to be fun—
the ocean, the beach and the glorious sun!
But when snorkeling, a jellyfish stung my face,
and I crashed my jet ski when I tried to race.
My son kicked me in the groin with his swim fin,
and the sun has fried my winter-white, delicate skin.
So, now I lounge here sipping this rum punch
long before it’s even time for some lunch.
Vacation has definitely turned out to be a bummer!
I think I will have a staycation next summer.

THANKFUL ON THURSDAY & A HAIKU

If it’s Thursday, it must be time for thankfuls and poetry. This week, we will be starting with thankfuls.

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful we finally had some snow–about three inches. I will no longer need to listen to my friends complaining that we have not had any in forever. Don’t get me wrong, I like seeing the snow fall, as it did all day Monday. But at the conclusion, I want it to melt quickly. Unfortunately, with the coldest temperatures we have had since December 2022, that is not happening. I am definitely NOT thankful for the cold.

On Tuesday, I was one of two first commenters on The Tuesday Teaser at Two Spoiled Cats. I received this badge. (It also snowed where Teddy lives!)

THANKFUL: TUESDAY TEASER FIRST COMMENTER BADGE.

Kitties Blue and I want to thank those of you who visited our Looking Back post yesterday, everyone who joined the Sunday Selfies blog hop and all those who follow us and comment on our post.

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by Angel Brian. To participate, post on you blog for what you are thankful, then click on the badge below to be transported to Brian’s Home.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Kitties Blue and I had a good giggle when we saw the photo Angel Sammy and Teddy from Two Spoiled Cats selected for our inspiration this week. I know, however, I would not be laughing if I was the woman in this photograph.

Seagull bites woman on the nose as she and her man imitate Rose and Jack's pose at the front of the ship in Titanic

My poetry for this week is a haiku.

Are you kidding me?
This was deeply romantic.
Disgusting seagull!

THE VET & AMOROUS PRAIRIE DOGS

Thankful Thursday

Lisbeth and I have the first of the thankfuls this week. We visited our vet, Dr. Kaitlyn McBane, on Monday. I know Lisbeth was not thankful about going to see Dr. McBane. She let me know at full voice all the way there.

Tuxedo cat at the vet's office with veterinarian.

My first thankful is that our wonderful (but retired) vet, Dr. Kathie Neel, recommended Dr. McBane. She is so kind, friendly and knowledgeable and treats Kitties Blue with such care.

Our second thankful is that all of Lisbeth’s bloodwork was normal. I took her to see Dr. McBane with the fear she might have diabetes or hypothyroidism due to the condition of her fur and skin. Lisbeth gets probiotics, but we will be switching her to Omega 3s and a topical foam in a hope to clear up the problems.

The next thankful comes from Sawyer and me as well. We both appreciate each and everyone of you who continue to pray for him and wish him well. I don’t always mention when he has a seizure. They happen with regularity and it takes him longer to recover each time. He is so precious to us, and I wish we could do more for him.

As the kitties and I tell you often, we totally appreciate your support, following and friendship.

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by Angel Brian, and we so appreciate that he continues to host this hop from the Rainbow Bridge. To participate in the hop, click on the Thankful badge.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

The Two Spoiled Cats, Teddy and Angel Sammy, provided us with an adorable photo of prairie dogs to serve as this week’s inspiration for a poem.

hugging and kissing prairie dogs

Amorous Prairie Dogs

Come here snookums and give me a kiss.
Hug me with your tiny paws…pure bliss!
Please don’t my amorousness dismiss.

We can retire to our coterie
where I can woo you with poetry,
as I have a huge vocabulary.

We’ll spend our one hour for this year
getting very close together, my dear,
before our mating window should disappear.

MISSED OPPORTUNITY? & THANKFULS

Thankful Thursday

Each week on Thursday, we share our thankfuls and join the Thankful Thursday blog hop hosted by Angel Brian. As usual, we have several thankfuls, and Sawyer has asked to go first.

Sawyer is thankful for the wonderful Christmas gifts his girlfriend Noelle (Friends Furever) sent him. Unfortunately he had a seizure the day they arrived, so he really wasn’t up to playing then. But, he wanted to share this photo and let Noelle know publicly how appreciative he is, especially for the treats. Sawyer does apologize for looking so grumpy. In his defense, I did bother him while he was napping.

Grey tabby cat posing with Christmas gifts for which he is thankful.

I am thankful for the beautiful gift Noelle’s mom, Sharon, sent me as well as the gifts from other wonderful friends.

I also am thankful for being one of two first commenters on the Tuesday Teaser at Two Spoiled Cats. What made that even more fun was the fact that Noelle’s mom, Sharon, was the other first commenter. We both received this badge.

Tuesday Teaser First Commenter badge.

Kitties Blue and I are thankful to everyone who follows us, joins our Sunday Selfies blog hop and comments on our posts. We wouldn’t be here without all of you.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

It’s time for poetry today as well. Each Thursday, Angel Sammy and Teddy (Two Spoiled Cats), provide interested participants with an inspiration photo on which to base a poem. Here is today’s photo followed by my poem.

Child with blue coat, red scarf and striped knit hat catching snowflakes on tongue.

MISSED OPPORTUNITY?

This is something I didn’t do as a kid,
as snow didn’t fall where I lived.
One day, however, we had a freak snow,
but about catching snowflakes I didn’t know.
My sister made snowballs, put them in the freezer!

For some years I lived in the mid-part of our nation
where we got too much winter precipitation.
No longer a child, I really didn’t find it much fun—
days and days waiting for the warmth of the sun
to melt the filthy remnants of winter’s wrath.

Now I live where we’ve had years with heaps of snow
and some when there has been nothing to show.
The earth’s warming has changed the climate here.
These days snow rarely finds its way anywhere near—
no chance to catch a snowflake on one’s tongue.

I did write another poem based on a snowy inspiration photo to which I added Cooper Murphy. It is titled, “Snow Cat,” and you can find it here.

NEW YEAR OPPORTUNITIES & POSSIBILITES

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

NewYear’s Eve is just a few days away, and angel Sammy and Teddy (Two Spoiled Cats) have provided us with an appropriate inspiration photo for this week’s poem.

New Year - Opportunities & Possibilities: An older couple wearing party hats and celebrating the new year.

At our age, Dad Tom and I rarely stay up to greet the New Year, but these two senior citizens appear to be having a great time. Of course, with drawn curtains, there really isn’t any way to tell what time it was when the photo was snapped. Anyhoo, none of that matters when it comes to my poem.

New Year – Opportunities & Possibilities

With every new year we hope and pray
for the promise of great things: If we
are ill, with God’s grace and the right
treatment we will be cured; if we play
the lottery, maybe we’ll win big!
We pray our kids or grandkids will get
good grades and be accepted to
a prestigious college. Maybe our
boss will recognize our extraordinary
abilities and give us a well-deserved raise.
No matter our age, a new year offers
imagined as well as unimagined
possibilities and opportunities.
We reach for them with hope, a smile and
a shared kiss at midnight with a loved one.

Thankful Thursday

It’s easy to be thankful around Christmastime. We share greetings with family and friends, give and receive gifts, help out our favorite charities and have yummy treats to eat. I am particularly thankful our gifts arrived at their destinations in time for Christmas, and that I got all the Kitties Blue cards in the mail before the holiday. When those will arrive to our friends living in other countries is anyone’s guess. Hopefully, they’ll have a nice surprise for Valentine’s Day.

Kitties Blue and I are thankful for all the greeting cards they have received. I have promised them we will share the cards with everyone in a future post.

Kizmet and Audrey are thankful for each other!

New Year - Opportunities & Possibilities: A grey cat and a torbie cat sleeping and resting their heads on each other.

And, of course, we are thankful you visited us today. The kitties and I hope to see you again tomorrow as well for Feline Friday, featuring Raleigh, and Friendly Fill-ins.

THE REAL SANTA & THANKFULS

Thankful Thursday

As Christmas draws closer, I am thankful that most of my preparations are completed. All ten packages going to family and friends made it to the post office today. Only two will not arrive before Christmas, which is better than I expected. And they are scheduled to be at their destinations on the 26th.

I also finished writing our annual newsletter, “Blues’ News,” which was emailed ahead of schedule yesterday.

The Kitties Blue Christmas cards, which I didn’t order until December 13, arrived on Monday (three days prior to the promised arrival date). Though they will arrive after Christmas for most of you, I will have them in the mail prior to Christmas. I couldn’t be happier.

Kizmet asked me to thank everyone who left Gotcha Day wishes for her. Dad Tom put a brand new, fancy scratching post together, which she’ll have to share. Unfortunately, that’s what happens in a multi-cat household.

I am thankful for receiving three badges as a result of being one of two first commenters as well as the first right guesser on the Tuesday Teaser at Two Spoiled Cats.
The Real Santa: Three Tuesday Teaser badges.
Kitties Blue and I are thankful to each of you who have sent us holiday greeting cards. Your friendships are priceless, and we are so thankful to have you in our lives.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Wow, can you believe that Christmas is now only four days away? I hope the Santa in Teddy and Angel Sammy’s (Two Spoiled Cats) inspiration photo for today’s poem isn’t seriously injured. Could turn Christmas Eve into a disaster!

The Real Santa: An obviously fake Santa lying on the floor with their head buried under Christmas gifts.

The REAL Santa Claus

This Santa looks deflated.
Those hands are definitely feminine!
Did the real Mr. Claus discover
this imposter on his turf
and decide to bury her in gifts
to play a trick on all the kids,
who came to sit on Santa’s lap?
Today, no department store fake
will replace the REAL, red-suited man.
He’ll meet each and every child
and pledge a visit on Christmas Eve,
as long as they promise to always believe
in the one-and-only, true Santa Claus!

© Janet Buickerood Blue – 12/20/2023

After I wrote this it reminded me a a really fun Christmas song by The Beach Boys, “Santa’s Beard.” It always makes me happy when I hear it. Hope you enjoy it!

I tried to write a poem that included Kitties Blue, but couldn’t get it right. I plan to keep working on it, and if I can pull it off, I will post it on Caturday.

THANKFUL FOR CHRISTMAS

Thankful Thursday

Each Thursday Kitties Blue and I like to share the things for which we are thankful, and Christmas is the perfect time to do that.

Periwinkle and Stinky are thankful their gingerbread cats tasted delicious; though, they may have looked less than appetizing. (Periwinkle and Stinky shared photos of our three Christmas trees in their post on Tuesday. Click on the link in the previous sentence if you’d like to see them.)

Kitties Blue are not only thankful for heated floors on cold days but also radiators.

thankful for Christmas: Three cats (a grey one, a Manx grey tabby and a torbie cat) warm themselves on a radiator.

I am thankful I have completed at least 90 percent of the gift wrapping duties.

The gang and I are thankful to those of you who have sent us holiday greetings. Unfortunately our cards will be arriving at your homes after Christmas, as I failed to order them in a timely manner. (We don’t want any of you to think we have forgotten you when you do not receive a card prior to Christmas.)

Kitties Blue and I are thankful to each of you for being our friends, following our blog and leaving comments.

Thursday also is the day when we share a poem based on an inspiration photo selected by Angel Sammy and Teddy from Two Spoiled Cats. Here is today’s fun photo followed by my poem.

thankful for Christmas: Mr and Mrs. Santa Claus in front of a U.S. Air Force plane.

Christmas is Saved

It’s difficult to deliver gifts
when all the reindeer call in sick!
But Mrs. Claus knew of a resource
and called in the U.S. Air Force.
They loaded up Santa’s sleigh and goodies
to deliver to all the world’s kiddies.
Santa was thankful Christmas was saved
and upon the Air Force bestowed great praise!

MISADVENTURE & THANKFULS

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

If it’s Thursday, it’s time for Angel Sammy and Teddy’s (Two Spoiled Cats) weekly poetry challenge. They provide an inspiration photo and participants try to write a representative poem of the image. I often add one or more of the Kitties Blue to the photo and think it might have been fun to do so here. Unfortunately, I’d already written the poem when I thought of it. I can now imagine them balancing on the feet of the human obstacles.

misadventure thankfuls: Berlin policeman on a motorcycle jumping through the legs of five other policemen.

Here is my poem sans felines.

Misadventure

Some might think the motorcyclist a daredevil,
but the men below are the courageous ones
to stand on their heads, spread their legs and pray
their fellow officer doesn’t miss his mark.
This stunt seems ridiculous. What do they
have to prove? Agility, bravery, competence?
Looks more like misadventure that could end
in disaster. I’ll keep my eyes closed until it’s over.

JUST SAY, “NO!” & THANKFULS

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

This week’s poetry inspiration photo from Angel Sammy and Teddy (Two Spoiled Cats) frankly scared me. You would never find me in this situation, which my poem clearly states.

Just Say, “No!” TO A CROWD OF HOLIDAY SHOPPERS.

Just Say, “No!”

I hate crowds anytime of the year,
but at Christmas, they ruin my mood.
I become overwhelmed and angry, yet
I am not a grinch. Shopping for perfect
gifts for family and friends is fun,
but shoppers pushing and shoving—
stampeding like a herd of elephants—
annoy me. Not worth it…just to save
a few dollars. The holidays are a time
to celebrate with love, lights, gingerbread
cookies and maybe a little alcoholic
egg nog. Consternation and stress spell
disaster for me. So, I’ll stay home,
visit Amazon on-line and just say, ”No,”
to the crowds of crazies and confusion.

© Janet Buickerood Blue – 11/29/2023

Even before shopping on the web existed, I avoided the crowds at the mall by using catalogs for all my holiday shopping.

Thankful Thursday

Thursday is not only poetry day, but also the day when we share our thankfuls for Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday blog hop.

Stinky and Periwinkle are first up today. They are both super appreciative of those who accompanied them on their adventure to the pyramids of Teotihuacan (“The City of the Gods”), Mexico. Dad Tom was the one who suggested this adventure, as he visited the site some years ago and found it fascinating.

Personally, I am thankful that all my inside garland and wreaths are up, two of three trees are in place and one partially decorated. It helped that Thanksgiving was a bit early this year. I still have a ton of work ahead, but I feel I am making good progress.

As always, KittiesBlue and I are thankful for each of you who visit and leave comments. Your support and friendship is what keeps us blogging.

C.J.’S VET VISIT & A POEM OF LOVE

Thankful Thursday

Each Thursday, the kitties and I like to share things for which we are thankful. Voicing gratitude is important in order to keep a positive outlook on life.

This week I am thankful that our wonderful vet, Dr. Neel, recommended Dr. McBane as her replacement. Calista Jo and I had an appointment with her yesterday. She is thorough, friendly and kind, and I really like her. Unfortunately C.J. was not pleased with being in the PTU or traveling in the car. I was nearly deaf from all the meyowling and caterwauling there and back.

She was mostly well behaved while we were in the exam room, as she did a lot of self-soothing purring.

Calista Jo may have eosinophilic granuloma. She received an antibiotic injection and will be on steroids for the next three weeks.

I got several photos of her while she was quiet. Unfortunately, I cut the tips of her ears off in the best one.

C.J. vet visit: Large dilute tortoise shell cat lying on a pick towel.

I also am thankful Dad Tom and I were able to attend two concerts this past week. The first featured Cote Deonath, The Ultimate Elvis, which Periwinkle & Stinky shared with you on their adventure. If you missed that, click on the link in the previous sentence. We also attended a wonderful concert by Graham Nash.

As always, Kitties Blue and I appreciate your friendship, support and comments.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Each week our dear friends, Teddy and Angel Sammy, (Two Spoiled Cats) share an inspiration photo with the hope that some of their followers will write a poem about it. This week’s photo is totally precious. It looks so much like our Cooper Murphy and Lisbeth; though, we would never find the two of them in a such an embrace.

An orange tabby cat and a tuxedo cat embracing with the tuxie cat bathing the tabby.

Love’s Embrace

Love is not partial to any gender
or species. It is universal and meant
to be shared. A smile, warm hug, kind word—
each has its place and time; is
appreciated and reciprocated if the
heart is pure, the intention true.

© Janet Buickerood Blue – 11/15/2023

This poem is definitely unfinished, but I have been unable to bring it to a satisfactory conclusion. If I can complete it, I will share it again in a future post.
