Stinky is excited for today’s adventure and hopes Periwinkle will be when he tells her about it. He is already waiting by the teleportation tunnel when he sees it begin to vibrate, and Periwinkle tumbles out with a whoosh. She is giggling as she often does. “That sure can tickle and ruffle my furs when I am ejected from the tunnel,” Periwinkle proclaims between giggling fits.” As her laughter subsides, she begins to pat down her furs. When she has finished, she gives Stinky a huge hug and some whisker kisses.
“I am happy to see you too, Periwinkle,” Stinky says while they are hugging. “We are not traveling anywhere today; however, I think our adventure should be fun.”
Ginger Cat Appreciation Day
Note: For the purpose of this post, ginger cats will also be referenced as orange cats.
“I do not have a clue what you have planned exactly, but I am fairly certain it will have something to do with Ginger Cat Appreciation Day.”
“Bingo,” exclaims Stinky.”Here are a couple of facts about ginger or orange kitties. The majority are tabby cats and display stripes, swirls or spots. However, there are solid orange cats and other coat variations that do not have tabby markings. The gene for orange coat color is dominant over all other coat colors except white. Here’s an article about ginger (orange) tabby cats: ‘Everything You Need to Know About Orange Tabby Cats’.”
“You know, Periwinkle, there are many famous ginger cats, like Garfield, Heathcliff, Puss in Boots, Crookshanks (Harry Potter), Tigger, Nala, Street Cat Bob, Morris and several others that I suspect most of our readers know about. I did discover one recently neither my mom nor I knew about, and I and want to talk about that kitty first.”
“Who is it, Stinky?”
Orangey
“The cat’s name was Orangey. He was a celebrated movie actor, and was in TV shows and such movies as Breakfast at Tiffany’s with Audrey Hepburn. He won two Patsy awards (1951 and 1961) for his performances. Those are the cat version of the Oscar award. The unusual thing about Orangey, however, is that he was only one of several cats. In actuality, the original Orangey died before his first role, according to his trainer, Frank Inn, and his roles were filled by a variety of other cats.”
“Now, that is interesting. Stinky. Do you think we should get some stand-ins in case we want to take a Tuesday off now and again?”
“That’s an idea worth pursuing, Periwinkle. But we should discuss that in private. We wouldn’t want our friends to know that it isn’t really us on an adventure.”
“Good thinking, Stinky. Who are we going to share next?”
Sammy Kimmell
“I thought we should share a cat who we consider to be famous, our dear friend, Angel Sammy Kimmell.”
“Purrfect. I know a little about him. He was your brofur Mau’s best man when Mau married my sisfur, Allie.”
“That’s right. And he was the first Troop Leader at Cat Scouts and continues to be a renowned and exceptional poet. In fact, if our readers would like to read his latest poem, they can do so at Two Spoiled Cats. If they like that poem, they can check out any of the Thursday posts for others.”
Teddy & Cooper Murphy
“I know, your brofur, Cooper Murphy, and Sammy’s, brofur Teddy were pretty important Scouts as well,” says Periwinkle.
“Yes, they were Co-Troup Leaders following Teddy’s brofur Sammy and then my brofur Mau. Plus Teddy is an exceptional cook. Check out his latest recipe at Two Spoiled Cats. And Cooper Murphy learned his baking skills from Mau who had his own Cat Scout bake shop.”

“Such impressive ginger cats, Stinky.”
Other Cat Scouts & Friends
“I know their were lots of ginger Cat Scouts, including Timmy, Tubby, Wally, Sammy Pilch, Chip and others,” says Periwinkle.
“And we have and have had lots of other ginger kitty friends: Travis, Peachy, Angels Eric and Flynn, Angel Prancie, Angels Derby and Ducky and Angel Crockett.” replies Stinky.
“Stinky, let’s show some photos of other Scouts, friends and your brofur MacKenzie.”
“Good idea, Periwinkle!”

“Stinky, I know some funny stories exist about some of the Scouts. Please share one with us.”
“Okay. Scout Timmy’s brofur Einstein was a prankster, and poor Timmy was always finding his underpants hanging on the flag pole. It became a running gag whenever we went to camp. Denmaster even created ‘Tactical Underpants’ just for Timmy.”
“Oh, that is so funny, Stinky,” sputters Periwinkle through giggles before she adds, “I remember that Sammy Pilch was a huge fan of corn on the cob, and he and his mom Ellen taught craft classes for the Scouts.”
“That’s right. There were so many talented Scouts, like your brofur Raz. And like him, they were not gingers,” replies Stinky.
Other Family Members
Tamir
“I know there was a ginger kitty in your family, Periwinkle. What can you tell us about him?”
“That was Tamir. He was before my time, so I asked my mom about him. Here is what she told me: ‘As all gingers, he was huge. About thirty pounds-ish. He was a showcat. I showed him in the household pet division. He had the loudest purr. One time, I thought there was a helicopter over the house, and then I realized it was him.’ Stinky, I know your clowder contained another ginger tabby besides Cooper and Raleigh. Tell me about him.”
MacKenzie
“That was MacKenzie. His photo is in one of the collages above. He too had a loud, rumbling purr. MacKenzie was Mom’s shadow and followed her everywhere. When she had her broken leg, he never left her side. He had inoperable stomach cancer at the time. Mom and Dad adopted him without ever seeing or meeting him. When they got him, they found out he had a hernia and ringworm.”
“Oh my cat, that’s awful!”
“Yes, especially as he was adopted from a vet practice! It was in another town, and our neighbor picked him up for us, which is why Mom and Dad didn’t know he had those problems.”
Raleigh

“Stinky, I know I mentioned Raleigh earlier, but we better not leave him out.”
“I guess you are right, Periwinkle; though, I am not sure I have much to say about him. He and his sisfur Audrey were feral, and without telling Dad, Mom agreed to take them in for a friend. She had no plan of keeping either of them, but you know how that goes … Anyhoo, he is still mostly afraid of everybody. The only time he will allow either Mom or Dad to pet him is when they are sitting on the toilet.”
Periwinkle doubles over laughing. Stinky just stares at her and says no more, as he knows he has shared too much information.
When Periwinkle finally settles down, Stinky mentions the remaining two gingers that are part of the family.
Oscar & Oliver
“As you know, Periwinkle, two of Tali and Gibb’s brofurs are ginger boys.”
“Oscar and Oliver are so handsome, Stinky.”

“I think all orange kitties are very handsome or beautiful if they are one of the rare female gingers, which is one of the reasons they are so popular. My mom is going to see Oscar and Oliver’s mom tomorrow, but she won’t be seeing the boys, as they are meeting at a restaurant.”
“I hope she does get to visit them again soon. I know it is nice to be able to keep up with ho they are doing,” replies Periwinkle.
“So Periwinkle, what do you say to having a snack. I think we’ve probably shared enough about our ginger family members and friends. I think it is obvious that we like them.”
“Agreed, and I think a snack sounds purrfect.”
Snack Time
Stinky and Periwinkle head to the front porch for their snack; though, it is blazing hot outside. Of course, Periwinkle lives in Florida and is accustomed to the heat.

When they finish eating and visiting, it is time for Periwinkle to head home. Stinky takes Periwinkle’s paw and leads her to the teleportation tunnel where they spend several minutes paw hugging and whisker kissing. Then Periwinkle enters the tunnel, and with a wave, blown kiss and a whoosh, she his on her way home.
Stinky returns to the coolness of the house for a nap and dreams of his beautiful fiancé Periwinkle.
The End
Periwinkle and Stinky will be participating in the Happy Tuesday blog hop hosted by Sandee at Comedy Plus. If you would like to join them, click on the Happy badge.

What a fun post about all the gingers!
When we were first married the neighbors two doors down had a ginger kitty named Lion. He would come around and pay visits to all the homes around here, and not only that one time he came around and wandered inside and sniffed all the rooms on the ground level, and then just sauntered off after his inspection. So funny. We didn’t have any kitties at that time…not till a few months later.
I know a few flame pointed siamese cats, they have orange tabby ‘points’. Very striking to see them with their bright blue eyes!
