I think the pain, Benadryl and pain medication are starting to make me stupid. I decided to select a photo for Athena Cat Goddess’ Caturday Art Blog Hop without a feline presence. Just call me crazy!
The original photo is below. It was taken on Tortola in the British Virgin Islands at a beach called Smuggler’s Cove. Visitors to the beach had taken large pieces of coral that had washed ashore and placed them in the tree like ornaments.
I created the above version of the photo in Picasa by first using the Pencil Sketch function. I still wanted it to have a beachy feel and used Vignette to add the color around the edges. Finally, to try to bring out the intricate lines of the tree and coral, I applied the Film Grain filter. I am not 100 percent happy with the outcome but satisfied enough to share.

Finally, I’d like to thank everyone for their well wishes with regard to the scorpion sting. Healing is very slow. Some of the swelling has gone down so that my lower leg looks less like a tree truck and more like a leg. The pain has abated enough for me to hobble around but not stand for any length of time. I have been advised to expect a minimum of two weeks for my reaction to the sting to disappear. I expect, with my already impaired circulation, I may be looking at a longer recovery period. I’ll keep everyone advised periodically on my progress. Thanks for caring.
Yow Aunti Janet we do not mind if dere iz no kitteh in da piccie; we iz just glad ya iz gettin bettur…we wishez ya wuud feel ALL bettur sooner tho’…

That coral picture is awesome! Glad to hear you are recovering from your sting … albeit slowly. We’ll keep on purring and praying, okay? Hugs!
We’re glad you did! Sometimes it’s fun to go wild and break a few rules (uh, if there ARE any for cat art, MOL!!)
We’re also glad you’re on the mend. Please be good to yourself and take care!!
We hope you feel better soon! We like what you did with the tree photo! We’ve got most of the beadies for the no-no bracelet so will be playing, we mean making it soon!
Ouch! Feel better soon please.
We really love your tree picture!

Sending healing purrs… Hope the pain dies down quickly.
Oh I love this image because I am still trying to imagine a cat hidden in there 😉 and I prefer it also to the original…I am so sorry you had a run in with the scorpion…we have small ones here and I think they may be the only thing NOT deadly here on our property!! I hope your body tells the toxins to hit the road quickly!! hugs Fozziemum and gang xx
Sorry about your misadventure with a nasty little critter! the sting delivers a toxin and toxins are rather difficult to eliminate from the body. Take courage and give it time !
Your rendition of that beach tree is very effective. If you use Picasa you can intensify the design by a light application of the HRD function. Regulate the levels until you like it. Another application that i use for giving different effects is Fastone Image Viewer. It is a free download. Google also has an image maker they insert as an add-on, called Picmonkey. I do not know if it is available as a download if you do not use google mail. The free portion is pretty interesting, but for me it is not worth to pay extra to upgrade. Google is very invasive, I have had to delete some of their add-ons that I did not want but the image tool is okay.
My best wishes for your recovery !
Sending healing purrz. If you don’t mind me saying, I like the new image better than the original. TW is still scared to use more than one filter on a photo. Very beautiful.
A scorpio sting! OMD! We send you lots and lots of loving healing light! Wooooowoooo! xoxoxoxoxxoo
Oh, no, not a scorpion sting. We’ve heard they are painful and evidently you can attest to that. Sure hope the pain dies down and your leg heals fast.
Like your art tree.
Excellent art!
We are so sorry for the lengthy recovery from the scorpion. Wow that is so scary. I am afraid of scorpions. Lucky they aren’t exactly abundant in the area of Florida I’m in. But when I was younger and we visited Texas every summer I was always afraid I was going to step on one. My Dad when he was young had on in his shirt and it bit him on the back. Continued well wishes for as quick of a healing as time will allow.
That is a really cool photo! I haven’t been over here so didn’t know about your scorpion sting. That is AWFUL, and very scary….I hope you continue to recover and that it won’t take as long as they told you.
you aren’t “crazy” at all…I think it is BEAUTIFUL!
That’s a real cool effect…even if there are no cats in it!
We’re glad you’re on the mend. We purr that you’ll be back to normal real soon.
Is there a cat hiding in that picture were suppose to see?
Very nice art work!! Have a great weekend.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I actually thought of hiding a kitty in the photo. I do have a photo of a kitty from the other end of the same beach. Maybe I will see if the photo is interesting enough to use for next week’s Caturday Art. XO, Janet
Love that photo effect…….very cool……..and I do hope that you’re over this horrible scorpion sting soon Janet – must be awful to have your movement restricted AND have the discomfort too. You were so lucky (although I’m sure it’s hard to think of it in those terms!). Just take your time – get the rest you need because that’s the most important thing!
Hugs, Pam
I never realized Picasa had such editing features – I just tried it and Picasa has the best pencil sketch feature of all I have tired. Thanks for that and the way you used it – well done. Hope you feel better soon…
It’s a really cool image! We hope you feel better soon.
That is very pretty and there could be a cat hiding in there somewhere!
I hope you get feeling better! Not fun!
Very fun photo.
Wishing you a happy Saturday!

Janet, I was actually trying to find the cat in the picture and thinking you hid it very well, time for sleep, huh?! Love both pictures! Sending you lots of good healing thoughts and purrs and tons of Clooney cuddles. I really do hope that the pain will abate soon and that the recovery will be quicker than they expect. Thinking of you…
I’ve been thinking of you and sending purrrrrs. I wandered around all over the grounds and it never occurred to me there might be dangers. There were no screens on the door which I left open ( I was on the 9th floor) and I had two bites on my neck but not itchy like mosquitoes. Tortola I hear is lovely and like this tropical piece a lot.
Oooh, it’s very cool! It almost looks like an X-ray or a fossil!
So glad you are on the mend. Take it easy and enjoy the kitty cuddles!
This is a very cool picture. I am so sorry you are not feeling well. I hope you recover quickly from the sting. Hugs.
