In 1996 No Greater Love, an humanitarian organization based in Washington, D.C., established the National Moment of Remembrance. After questioning school children about the meaning of Memorial Day and finding they were totally unaware of it’s purpose, No Greater Love hoped to raise public awareness of America’s heroes and their valor. The idea clicked with President Bill Clinton and Congress. Since 1997, it has become a standard American tradition. National Moment of Remembrance requires everybody to be silent for a minute, exactly at 3.00 pm (local time), and reflect on the glory of those who have died in service to our country.
Calista Jo, after spending her holiday watching birdie T.V. on the catio, decided to extend her minute of silence into an afternoon snooze in a sunpuddle. Her paw and the base of the catio’s cat condo/tree became her pillow.
How ever you spent your holiday yesterday, we pray that you took a moment to remember and honor those Americans who gave their lives to ensure our freedom.
We pray for and thank all of those currently serving our country.
I love you guys. Really. XOXO
Lovely post. We took a moment to reflect on what Memorial Day means and we hope many others did too. Calista Jo, you’re beautiful!
We took a lot of moments in silence yesterday, even going as far as closing our eyes for full moments.
What a lovely post!
Have a wonderful Tuesday…
Noodle and crew

Very nice post, I am very thankful for all who gave their lives for our freedom
What a lovely shot and wonderful post, Calista Jo and Janet. Thank you for sharing this, and for encouraging everyone to take time to remember our heroes, the true reason behind Memorial Day.
We haven’t heard that before…to have a moment of silence at 3pm. But if we recall, we all were pretty silent at 3pm yesterday. Well, ‘cept Wally…who may have been snoring just a little.
Calista Jo chose a wonderful way to remember!
OMC! At three pm, the petcretary was busy getting her report of what to do at her work in the nursing home.
Um…this year she had no time to stop and think…though she did before she left fur work:)
She was the only worker who had anything on to mark the day as a special one. What is with peeps these days.
She had wanted to spend some time with several of her men residents to talk about their time in the service, but she was way too busy, she almost didn’t even get a break…
She will be able to be off on July 4th…and for her that will be fun because the Thunderbirds will be at the Balloon festival/air show held here each summer. That is always awesome to see…and sometimes talk to the men who fly in those.
We had a quiet day yesterday…….we always think about those who serve our country as Mom grew up in an Air Force family and it was her life…..some things stick with you forever. Hope you all had a good weekend…….
Love, Sammy and Mom Pam
We didn’t know about the 3PM tradition, but we did pause and give thanks.
