THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CCLXX

What’s The Plan

Stinky is waiting for Periwinkle by the teleportation tunnel hoping she will be on time as well as hoping she won’t be disappointed by his plan for the day. Stinky doesn’t have long to wait or worry, as he soon hears the familiar whoosh and is ready to catch Periwinkle as she comes tumbling from the tunnel.

After several minutes of paw hugging and whisker kissing, Periwinkle asks, “Are we going to go outside and play in the snow?”

Stinky tells her, “No, we have a layer of ice sandwiched between two layers of snow, and it’s very slippery.”

“Oh, good, I am really not a fan of the cold,” replies Periwinkle. “So, if we are not going out in the snow, what’s the plan? I saw what you wrote for one of the Friendly Fill-Ins last Friday about getting married this year. Are we going to pick a date and plan our wedding?”

“Well, no, but we are going to plan and throw a party. Today is Cooper Murphy’s ninth Gotcha Day. Some idiot dumped him in January of 2017 when we had a snow storm. We know he was abandoned, as he had been neutered, was about 15 months old and when Mom advertised him on every web-site available for lost/found pets, he went unclaimed.”

“You know, that really sucks! But he got a great home,” Periwinkle tells Stinky.

“Yep, and that’s why we need to give him a nice party.”

“So, what is the plan?” Asks Periwinkle.

Time to Bake

“Well, you know, since Mau passed away, Cooper has become our resident baker, but we cannot very well ask him to bake his own cake. I’ve been watching that Great British Baking Show on TV with Mom, and I think I’m ready to tackle baking a cake with your help.”

“Yikes, Stinky, are you sure about that?”

“Well, we’ve baked pies and cookies and lemon bars, so yes, I think we can do it! But we better get started so we have time to decorate and party when it’s finished. I think we have everything we need,” Stinky tells Periwinkle.

“Stinky is that little orange cat the cake topper? It is so cute!”

“Yes, it is. The face looks a bit more like Raleigh than Cooper Murphy, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to make anything that even resembled Cooper, so I ordered it off the internet.”

“Good thinking!”

“We need to get a move on and get this in the oven. When it is done backing, it has too cool before we can decorate it.” Stinky and Periwinkle get busy and they soon have three layers in pans and in the oven.

When they have finished cleaning up the kitchen, Stinky brings out supplies so he and Periwinkle can make a card for Cooper Murphy.

“I’ve got some colored pencils, cut-outs of Cooper Murphy and some stickers we can use,” Stinky tells Periwinkle. And he asks her to do the lettering as her printing is much better than his.

When the card is finished, they get the cakes that have been cooling on the counter and begin decorating. When finished, they go in search of Cooper.

Surprise!

“Stinky, where do you think Cooper is?”

“He’s either napping somewhere or playing with the laser toy Noelle gave Sawyer for Christmas. He and a couple of my other fursibs are sort of obsessed with it.”

Periwinkle and Sawyer find Cooper Murphy, Kizmet, Audrey, Sawyer and Raleigh in the bedroom around the red dot emanating from Sawyer’s new toy.

“Wow, Stinky, you were right. That toy really is popular. I know Noelle will be happy to see Sawyer in there. You know, I don’t think your fursibs even realize we are here. They are mesmerized by that dot.” (Dot is right in front of Sawyer’s paws.)

Stinky leans over and whispers to Periwinkle, “I know how we can fix that,” and then tells her what to do on the count of three.

“One…two…three.” Stinky and Periwinkle yell in unison, “Surprise!” All five kitties look up at Periwinkle and Stinky and wonder what is going on. “Cooper Murphy, it’s the anniversary of your Gotcha Day nine years ago, and we are having a party,” says Stinky.

“Wow, cool, thanks!”

“First we have a card for you,” Periwinkle tells him.

“And Mom and Dad made you a card as well,”says Stinky.

“Thanks, everybody, these are really nice,” says Cooper.

Time for Noms

“Mom made lots of delicious noms for us,” Stinky tells the others.

“This looks so yummy! Let’s dig in,” exclaims Cooper Murphy.

All the kitties pig out until they are over full. They start heading off to find sun puddles for naps until Stinky says, “Doesn’t anybody want cake?”

“There’s cake? Who baked it?” asks Coop. Periwinkle and Sticky shout in unison, “We did?”

“Should I be worried? Have you two ever baked a cake before?” asks Cooper.

“Nope, but we have made lots of other things, and we did have a recipe,” declares Stinky.

“Well then, bring it on,” Cooper replies.

The Cake

“Holy cow, that is incredible, Stinky and Periwinkle. If it tastes half as good as it looks, I may have to hand over all the baking duties to the two of you!”

Stinky and Periwinkle are flattered by the compliment but tell Cooper Murphy that they are not ready to take over such a daunting task. Before anyone else says anything, Cooper blows out the candles and grabs a pawful of cake. All the others follow him and soon everyone is eating cake with their paws. Soon the cake is finished; though, all the cats are covered in crumbs and frosting. Much time is spent with cleaning their furs, and then most of the Kitties Blue head off for a nap.

Periwinkle and Stinky spend time cleaning up their own furs and then the mess left by all the Kitties Blue. When they finish, it is time for Periwinkle to head home. The tabbies spend time paw hugging and whisker kissing before Periwinkle enters the teleportation tunnel and is gone with a final wave and blown kiss.

Stinky heads to the bedroom to join his fursibs for a nap.
