First Class Accommodations

Even if you are forced to travel in economy, your pet can now claim a seat in this “first class” Pet Carrier/ Collapsible Kennel from Smiling Paws Pets. The soft-sided, expandable carrier, available from Amazon, is designed to be in compliance with all TSA and IATA requirements. It is sized for under-seat, in-cabin dimensions for soft-sided carriers. Dimensions are 17 x 11 x 9 inches when not expanded.

The carrier can be expanded on four sides to give your pet room to turn and change positions. Expanded size is 34 x 25 x 9 inches. Maximum pet weight is 15 pounds.

Smiling Paws Pets PTU

The Smiling Paws Pets carrier includes a sturdy reinforced metal frame, A Grade metallic clips, safety self-locking zippers, a sleeve for to accommodate luggage handles or a seat belt and a zippered storage pocket. An attached interior leash can be clipped to your pets collar, allowing you to open the carrier to check on your pet or provide food, treats or water without your pet escaping.

Also included are a padded shoulder strap and handles and an interior removable, faux-sherpa-topped, washable pad. As Sawyer has earned the title of PTU Pooper, this is an important feature for us. And the interior fabric is laminated & leak-proof.

My Favorite Features

  • The carrier folds nearly flat and comes with its own compact, zippered pouch, making storage easy.
  • The mesh areas are not so tightly woven that your pet is unable to see out.
  • The carrier has a top entry with a zipper on each side attached to a single pull cord. This allows you to close the entire top quickly without giving your pet the opportunity to try to escape.

This PTU is intended for cats, puppies and other small pets. If necessary, I could fit two of the smaller Kitties Blue (Misty May, Astrid, Sawyer) together; though, I would never do this due to their incompatibility.  I don’t believe the larger of our cats, Cooper Murphy, Calista Jo and Lisbeth, would be comfortable without all four sides open.

Misty May and Sawyer demonstrate with just the ends open.

This looks great! For medium trips I could open this end to end in the backseat and save myself from having to pop up Plush’s big show shelter that’s wider than my seat. And open the front if he wants to roam more. (He usually just sleeps)

We think that is like a Cadillac of carriers! It would almost be like a miniature tent when its open, so we could take it camping…nah, *she* doesn’t go camping…not even glamping, MOL!!

That looks like a really cool PTU. Although on principle, we hate the PTU, because you know once it makes an appearance in the living room that only means one thing. And the kitty of the house always loses when that happens.

My meowmy is ordering one of these carriers. I hate twaveling, but she says this type of carrier would make me very comfortapurr. Great review! Love, Dori

Mom’s car is super small so the soft-sided ones work best. One of the ones we have always collapses. This sounds better.

What a nice looking carry for a kitty. I can remember battling with kitties trying to get them in a carrier. They saw that thing and they would disappear.

Have a fabulous day. Scritches to all the kitties. ♥

We like this thing. Some of us need more room to expand than others 😉
Thank you for visiting us. We gonna work on our selfies for coming Sunday!

That is a ginormous PTU! If we ever need a new one this will get the nod fur sure

We have one of these, and although we haven’t yet used it as a PTU, Angle uses it daily as her morning napping locale!

It’s really interesting about the expandable part. Might be a fit for 9.5 lb Paprika. I love the part about the top being easy to open. I’v e never been a bee to cram an unsuspecting cat into one of the side sections so the large top is really important. Thanks for the review.

I have my heart set on a sleepypod, but this is a more affordable option.

That really is a nice one. We all much prefur the soft carriers here!

You saw our review yesterday. This is a really nice carrier for the money. Rivals ones that are much more expensive.

First, we wanted to thank you for the incredible prize package. Mommy let us open it yesterday (pictures on our facebook page) and we were allowed to get some of the toys out it was such a treasure trove of goodies Mommy suggested we save some things until another day. MOL especially as she wanted to photograph them and we were running off with them faster than she could get them out. In fact, Yang was helping remove them from the box.

That carrier sounds neat.

That’s like a motor home with pull-outs.

Teddy May 14, 2019 at 5:17 am

I betcha I wouldn’t fit in it BUT it sure looks perfect for most regular sized kitties! It’s very cool that it has “bump outs”……makes it more comfy and gives occupants a lot of options for peeking out. Thanks for sharing!

Hugs, Teddy

We used this for the first time yesterday when Ellie had to go to the vet for her yearly wellness visit. I had some other errands to run, so I opened up the expansions and she enjoyed exploring them. She’s 13 pounds though – and I believe the max is 15. I’m not sure I would use this for Bear … he’s about 14 pounds.
