Thoroughly Poetic Thursday
It’s Thursday, which means it is time for a poem and some thankfuls. I’ll start today off with the poem as it segues into the thankfuls that follow. The inspiration photo provided by Angel Sammy and Teddy (Two Spoiled Cats) ended up being merely a jumping off point for my poem. I am fairly certain neither they nor Mom Pam will mind.

In Memory of Brain Wilson
June 20, 1942 – June 11, 2025
We six sisters have been jamming together all our lives.
We can play almost anything you like.
“Do you want jazz, rock, blues or classical?
Whatever you suggest, we’ll make it magical,”
said one of the sisters to an elderly man
who’d been tapping his toes to music from the band.
“How about some music from The Beach Boys.
That will take me back to my years as a teen.”
The ladies conferred, launched into their
arrangements of “Surfer Girl,” then “Fun, Fun, Fun.”
The man swayed to the music and began to hum.
He felt like a young buck going to pick up his date−
worrying they’d miss the concert if he was late.
When the songs ended the man had tears in his eyes,
applauded loud enough for the sound to reach the skies.
With a smile for the ladies, the man left for home and bed
with the song, “In My Room,” playing in his head.
As he fell asleep, he was at peace, but
when he awoke, it all seemed like a dream.
Once more with tears in his eyes, he recalled his teens,
remembering the girl from the concert who became his wife;
and, though now an angel, would forever be in his life.

Each week Angel Sammy transmits his poem from the Rainbow Bridge to Teddy for publication. Sammy writes incredible poetry, which is why we always suggest you head over to Two Spoiled Cats to read his weekly contribution. You can get there by clicking on the poetry badge. While there, check out the inspiration photo for next week and join us then in writing a poem.
Thankful Thursday
Each Thursday, Kitties Blue and I also like to share the things for which we are thankful and then participate in Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday blog hop.
As the title of this week’s poem intimates, it was inspired not just by the photo but also by the death yesterday of Brian Wilson. The Beach Boys are one of Dad Tom’s and my favorite musical groups. We have seen them perform many times and in many different locales throughout the years. I first saw them in concert on February 28, 1964, at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds in San Jose, California. Dad Tom and I saw Brian Wilson for the last time in concert along with Al Jardine, Jardine’s son and a variety of back-up musicians in Elmwood Park here in Roanoke, VA, on August 20, 2016.
We also saw The Beach Boys (without Brian Wilson) here in Roanoke on June 18, 2024. You can see that post here.
I am thankful, as I know Dad Tom is as well, for all the opportunities we have had to enjoy the music from the talented Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys. We will continue to listen to that music often.
I am thankful our vet and I are working toward getting Sawyer’s phenobarbital levels back in the therapeutic range, ideally between 15 and 30 µg/ml. In April, it was around 12 µg/ml, and last week only at nine. If you missed Periwinkle & Stinky’s post on Tuesday, Sawyer had another seizure Monday night (just six days after the previous one last Tuesday).

As I reported last week, we were trying a new compounding pharmacy, Best Pet Rx. Well, after they did not fill the prescription for the amount ordered by Dr.McBane, we are moving on again. If you have been with us for any length of time, you know our biggest problem is getting Sawyer to eat his food with his meds in it; though, they are tuna flavored. Some years ago we investigated getting them compounded to administer transdermally, but the cost was prohibitive. We are going to try that route again through Wedgewood Pharmacy in New Jersey. They have been partnering with veterinarians since 1981 to provide a broad range of compounded medications. If any of you have used this pharmacy for your pet(s), Sawyer and I would love to know what your experience has been with them.
Sawyer thanks everyone for the purrs, prayers and POTP they have sent him recently and throughout the years.
Periwinkle and Stinky are thankful to those of you who adventured with them on Tuesday for World Pet Memorial Day.
As always, Kitties Blue and I are thankful for those who visit and comment on our posts and join the Sunday Selfies blog hop. And, of course, we are thankful you stopped in to see us today.
We will be participating in the Thankful Thursday blog hop over at Brian’s Home Forever. To join us there, click on the Thankful badge below.

Chaplin: “Dennis told us about Tucker’s many adventures with compounding pharmacies over the years. We hope you find a reliable one that can get Sawyer’s medication done the way it needs to be done!”
Your poetic tribute to this brilliant musician is beautiful.
Lots of prayers for Sawyer and for you as you deal with getting meds and getting them into him where they can do some good.
That was a beautiful poem/tribute to Brian Wilson. He was one smart man. I highly recommend Wingate in Nashua NH for compounding. XO
Oops, I totally forgot to say thanks for joining Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
That was a fun tribute poem. Brian Wilson was a magical musical talent. We’ve seen them several times before too and one year when we lived in WV I got to go to their sound check before the concert and I got to say hello to them all.
We’ve always had good results with Wedgewood too.
The perfect tribute to Brian Wilson with your poem. He and the Beach Boys were favorites of our peeps in their much younger days. Too bad he had to struggle so much with his life because he was just so talented.
Woos – Misty and Timber
First of all – fabulous poem……lots of memories when it comes to the Beach Boys – AND my dear friend Janet you have always seemed to me to be the ultimate “California Girl”! The Beach Boys music lasted for SO MANY YEARS and will live on because the songs were fun and meaningful and made people happy. I have lots of GREAT memories – saw them only once at Wolf Trap here in Virginia. I’m hoping your pharmacy will do a good job compounding Sawyer’s meds – he worries us all and I know he worries you too as those seizures are scary for him and ALL of us who love him. Thanks for having fun with us and Angel Sammy for Poetry Thursday – your poem was total PERFECTION!
Love, Pam
That was a beautiful poem. A fitting memorial to Brian Wilson. The Beach Boys are an icon of an era gone-by. Best of luck on finding a good pharmacy for Sawyer’s needs.
Terrific story poem.
Wishing you luck with the compounding pharmacy.
We have been using Wedgwood Pharmacy for sometime now for eyedrops. At the beginning there was a shortage and they couldn’t fill the prescription for a while but they kept us informed of the delays. They’ve always been prompt with information and helped us when we needed to get the medication refilled. We’ve been happy with them. Best of luck to you and I hope they work as well for you as they have for us.
That was a fabulous poem. How lucky you are to have seen the Beach Boys in purrson!
We hope the pharmacy works out. We used one called Specialty Pharmacy here in Melbourne to compound meds for Angel Tamir and later for Angel Ellie. They were excellent. https://www.specialty-pharmacy.com/
The Florida Furkids with love and whisker kisses to Sawyer from Noelle
Cute picture and good poem! We hope everything works out well with the compounding pharmacy and that Sawyer will do well. We were very sad about the loss of Brian Wilson too.
What a beautiful poem! I didn’t know Brian Wilson died yesterday, so sad.
I am sorry Sawyer had another seizure and hope the new pharmacy will fulfil the new prescription properly and his levels will improve.
What a sweet poem!
I sure hope that you can get Sawyer’s medicine compounded properly ad that it will help to stabilize his levels and reduce the number of seizures.
