Sawyer Update
Before I post the photo of Raleigh for Feline Friday, I have an update on Sawyer. (If you missed Wednesday and or Thursday’s post with info on what’s been happening with Sawyer, click here for Wednesday and here for Thursday.) Yesterday morning I got a phone call from the vet’s office at 8:30 a.m. When they drew his blood on Wednesday, they did not get enough to run the phenobarbital profile, and they asked me to bring him back in. Yippee! Hooray! Goodie goodie! Yeah … I didn’t reply with any of those exclamations.
All I could do was get up, get in the shower and with difficulty and Dad Tom’s help get him loaded back into the PTU and the car. He was, as always, mute coming and going. But he let me know his displeasure with his usual 💩 deposit in the PTU! He did not stay out of it this time, and the tech who drew his blood also had the privilege of cleaning him up. I informed the assistants at the front desk that I would not be leaving until Dr. McBane or one of the other vets verified that between the two blood draws they had enough to run the test.
I was able to talk to Dr. McBane, and she assured me, they had enough blood. She also had already called a pheno prescription in to a new pharmacy. Like the last one (Akina), it too is in northern Virginia. I had planned to move his prescription to a local compounding pharmacy after Akina screwed things up so badly last time. The new compounding pharmacy is Best Pet Rx, and Dr. McBane highly recommended them. They ship free with next day delivery, so we should have his phenobarbital tomorrow with an extra supply so we can adjust his dosage as needed. Sawyer and I will keep you posted on how this all plays out.
Feline Friday
Raleigh is here today to participate in the Feline Friday blog hop.

This is Raleigh’s go-to spot when hanging out the lower level of the catio. You can just see one of his ears in the lower left corner of the tent. This tent was in our bedroom until Cooper Murphy decided to use the top for sharpening his claws. When it got so ratty looking I no longer wanted in the house, it went to the catio, which is when Raleigh commandeered it.

Friendly Fill-Ins
The Friendly Fill-Ins blog hop is hosted each Friday by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Lorianne (Four-Legged Furballs). They publish the fill-in sentences on their blogs each Thursday. I did not get any help with completing the fill-ins this week. My usual helper, Sawyer, said he was too tired and too miffed to offer any assistance. I sure cannot blame him for copping an attitude! So, I have completed all four sentences myself. I used teal italics for my completions, and any explanatory information is in parentheses.
1. My plans for June include reading and judging the Cat Writers’ Association Contest entries in four categories and having the vet do our annual home visit for exams and vaccines for Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Kizmet.
2. I would love to have Marge Piercy or Anne Tyler mentor me. (My first choice would have been Pat Conroy if he were still alive.)
3. Being diagnosed with a progressive neuromuscular disease was an aha moment for me.
4. I was not prepared for having so many health issues when I reached adulthood.

Thanks for dropping in to see us today. We will be back tomorrow with some Caturday Art.

Poor Sawyer, poor you having to deal with a return trip to the vet. I’m glad you won’t have to drive far (or at all) to get his new script. I’ve got 2 best friends who deal with almost disabling chronic disease every day, but neither one lets it stop them. I think about what they both go through, and wonder if I would just curl up in a ball and give up…good for you for persevering!
Charlee: “Oh no! Poor Sawyer! You had to go back a second time?!”
Oona: “If you would like Oona to come in and work some ninja moves on whoever didn’t draw enough blood the first time, just let her know. Oona bets SHE wouldn’t have a problem drawing enough blood from them!”
What an ordeal to get Sawyer taken care of by the vets! I hope they get back to you quickly and can adjust the dosage if needed.
Raleigh, that’s a great napping spot.
I’m glad you can get a home vet visit for all the rest of the kitties.
Thank you for linking up with Feline Friday!
That must have been frustrating to have to go through all that for more blood. The new pharmacy sounds good. Thank you for participating in the fill-ins. great answers except I am sorry you have health issues. I wish I had a home vet. XO
Those were all interesting fill-in answers. Poor Sawyer having to go through that again. Purrs little dude.

GAH!
That’s such a pain in the patootie, to have to bring a cat BACK AGAIN to the vet’s office.
What a bummer you had to go back but it’s good that you have a new pharmacy. We’re praying that the new prescription works better. We know Angel Raz is proud of Sawyer for being a PTU pooper!
The Florida Furkids with love and whisker kisses to Sawyer from Noelle
I’m with Jackie about being surprised they didn’t know they needed more blood from Sawyer the FIRST time….making you two come back is so much trouble. Glad he has a new prescription – we worry so much about that boy!! Great job on the fill-ins too…..I just want to say for a dear friend who has a neuromuscular disease you don’t let that stop you and I have ALWAYS admired that about you!!!
Hugs, Pam (and Teddy too)
I am glad they drew sufficient blood the second time. I am surprised they couldn’t see it wasn’t enough the first time. I used to have a weekly blood test, but now only monthly. The nurse would sometimes say to me that it didn’t look enough and she would try again.
I hope the new prescription arrives promptly.
We’re glad to hear that Sawyer’s prescription is in the works!
