We have always said that our bed is the DMZ. And in most instances that is true. Both cats and humans go there to sleep not do battle. Occasionally a hiss or growl will escape from the lips of one of the pusses or a paw/hand will dart out and whap a bed mate (including me hitting the kitties’ dad to stop him from snoring), but for the most part things are copacetic.
That is why some of our doozies of snoozies occur there. For two nights in a row Lily Olivia and Mauricio were touching each other. Mauricio was awake part of the time, but Lily never knew what was happening. I would have expected him to pull away so as to avoid her calico cooties, but he was totally chill. He even gave himself a bath while this touching was occurring. He did not, however, give Lily a bath. Had he been foolish enough to try, he probably would have gotten a whap.
I suspect Mauricio’s laid-back attitude might have something to do with his fat lip. I think he must be feeling a little puny and can’t be bothered with pestering Lily. I know he has not suddenly taken a liking to her. Though she’s been here the longest, Lily Olivia has always been at the bottom of the pecking order. And the others will “peck” on her whenever they get the opportunity.
Mau and I had a quick visit to the vet today for her to assess what is going on with his swollen bottom lip. She suspects he might have been bitten or stung by a bug (not one of his fursibs). He got an anti-inflammatory injection and will be taking antibiotics for a few days. So maybe we will have a couple more nights of touchy-feely, or maybe we will return to each cat on his or her little patch of bed or human. I’ll keep you posted.
