National Pet Wedding Week

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CCXL

Stinky is always excited for Periwinkle’s visit and is up early to groom his furs and get his breakfast. He’s pacing next to the teleportation tunnel when she arrives with the familiar whoosh. He sweeps her up in a giant paw hug, and they share some whisker kisses. Before she can ask, Stinky tells her they have a choice of adventures for the day. They can help his mom scrub the upper deck or they can create some art.

Periwinkle being a very bright kitty knows she does not want to spend her day outdoors in the heat scrubbing. “Thanks for the options, Stinky. I didn’t mind when we helped your mom doing her spring planting or when we wrapped Christmas gifts while she had COVID, but I believe I will select the art project.”

World Pet Memorial Day

“Very smart. That’s my choice as well. Today is World Pet Memorial Day, established by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) as a day when humans can memorialize their pets that have gone to the Rainbow Bridge. So, I thought we could make some scrapbook pages featuring the angels from our two families.”

“I remember when we celebrated that back in 2021. Let’s link to that post. Some of our friends might have missed it,” replies Periwinkle.

“Good idea, Periwinkle. And it is also National Pet Wedding Week, so we can do a special page for Mau and Allie and Astrid and Sampy. It’s also Adopt a Cat Month, but my mom said we can’t do that!”

“Well phooey. Maybe my mom will consider adopting another cat,” replies Periwinkle. “I miss Raz, and I think I’d like to have another brofur.”

Stinky tells her that he’ll keep his paws crossed for that. He then Leads Periwinkle to the kitchen where he has their art supplies stacked on the island.

“I guess you think you’re pretty smart, as you knew I wouldn’t select the cleaning project,” Periwinkle exclaims. Stinky just gives her a wink and they get started creating.

Periwinkle’s Pages

“Periwinkle, I think you should share your pages first,” Stinky says.

“Ladies first, huh” Stinky giggles and nods his head, yes.

“I think it is so cool that you have woofies to share. Mom and Dad had two dogs when our first brofur came to live here. Their names were Smack and Poppy. Mom got Smack when she was in college, and she and Dad adopted Poppy before they got married. Mom doesn’t have any photos on her computer, so I didn’t make a scrapbook page for them,” Stinky tells Periwinkle. “Let’s see your next page.”

“Periwinkle, that page is so beautiful. Your mom is going to love it!”

“Thanks Stinky. Here’s my last page.”

“Stinky, do you think is is okay that I included our cousin, Trooper?”

“Absolutely. Everyone remembers Cousin Trooper,” Stinky replies.

“Okay, Stinky, now it’s your turn to share.”

Stinky’s Scrapbook Pages

“I have four pages, Periwinkle. We have 14 Kitties Blue angels.”

“Stinky, I love that drawing of Mau that the Cat Scouts’ Denmaster did.”

“Me too. Mom chokes up whenever she sees it. Here’s my next page.”

“Wow, Stinky, the only one of those kitties I knew was Misty May.”

“Me too, Periwinkle. The others were way before my time. Don’t you think Mackenzie looks a lot like Cooper Murphy?”

“Yes, definitely,” replies Periwinkle.

“Stinky, you sure had a lot of brofurs and sisfurs that neither of us knew,” Periwinkle exclaims.

“I know, Scooter was the very first of the Kitties Blue and Steamer was the second. And, by the way, Steamer was a girl.”

“That sure was a funny name for a girl.”

“Someday, I will tell you the story behind it,” Stinky tells Periwinkle.

“Stinky, Thelma and Twinkle sure were gorgeous black panfurs,” says Periwinkle.

“Yes, they were. Mom has always wanted another black cat, but it just hasn’t worked out. Maybe, someday!”

National Pet Wedding Week

“Stinky, let’s share the wedding page we created together.”

“Mau and Allie were so cute as Legos,” states Periwinkle.

“I think that was from Cat Scouts,” Stinky tells her.

“I sure hope we can get married someday,” Periwinkle tells Stinky. Stinky blushes but doesn’t reply. Periwinkle knows he is afraid to make such a huge commitment due to his seizure disorder, so she doesn’t say more.

Time for Some Fun

I heard you have some bunnies hanging out in your yard. Do you think we could visit with them?” asks Periwinkle.”

“Sure, let’s go,” replies Stinky and takes Periwinkle’s paw.

“Squee, they are so adorable, Stinky. I like the lizards in our yard, but I think I’d like to have some bunnies.”

“We are pretty lucky to have so many cute critters considering we live in the city. Periwinkle, I’m getting pretty hungry. Let’s go get a snack, okay?”

“You bet. You don’t need to ask twice,” she replies.

Periwinkle & Stinky head to the catio to enjoy some Fancy Feast and treats along with the other Kitties Blue. After the snack and visit, it’s time for Periwinkle to return home. She and Stinky head to the teleportation tunnel where they share whisker kisses and paw hugs. Then with a blown kiss and a wave, Periwinkle disappears into the tunnel and is gone in a whoosh. Stinky returns to the catio to nap and dream of Periwinkle.
