Thoroughly Poetic Thursday
Time again for some poetry. Here is this week’s inspiration photo, provided by Two Spoiled Cats.
You may have noticed that three of the Kitties Blue have been added to this week’s photo. This is the third consecutive week I have “tampered” with Teddy and Angel Sammy’s photo, so I believe I owe you an explanation. This is a cat blog, and I’d like to keep my focus on felines. Teddy and Angel Sammy’s mom, Pam, has let me know she and the boys don’t mind my doing this. So, here’s this week’s poem, featuring Kizmet, Lisbeth and Cooper Murphy. Had I not placed them in the photo, my poem would have been quite different. I’m certain some faeries would have been included.
The first stanza is Lisbeth and Kizmet speaking to Cooper. The second stanza is his reply.
Witch’s Brew or Shrew Stew
We wonder what’s in this pot—
A witch’s brew as likely as not?
Does this mean our human is one,
Or are we imagining this explanation?
Maybe she’s cooking us a nice stew—
Perhaps a huge shrew in a yummy roux.
Cooper Murphy come here and help us see
If this is something delicious or just a kettle of tea.
Unless it’s treats or a cauldron of Fancy Feast,
I have no interest in the least.
If you girls do find something you like,
I might consider having a teensy bite.
But if it turns out to be something yucky,
Then I’ll know I was truly lucky
To have avoided that boiling pot
For my nap is this delightful, shady spot!

If you’d like to try writing some poetry, check out Two Spoiled Cats on Thursdays for the following week’s inspiration photo. And while you’re visiting, please read Angel Sammy’s poem. He transmits it to Teddy from the Bridge, and he is a masterful poet. You can click on the poetry badge to go there now.
Thankful Thursday
On Thursdays we also like to share the things for which we are thankful. Here’s what we’ve got for this week.
We are extremely grateful that Brian and his dad, Terry, host this hop each week. It is important for everyone to count their blessings. No matter how good or bad things are, life can throw in a curve ball that knocks us on our derrieres. That’s exactly what happened to Brian’s family this week. On Monday, beautiful and sweet Dolly suddenly and unexpectedly flew off to the Bridge. Then, before we could even process this sad news, we found out that Dad Terry had to have an emergency appendectomy. It breaks our hearts that Brian, Terry, Mom Celeste, Simon and Seal are dealing with so much turmoil, stress and sadness. We send them all our love and prayers. We will remember Dolly on our Sunday Selfies post.
So, you are probably wondering how any of that could make us thankful. It doesn’t! But we are thankful that everyone here is okay. We’re also thankful we live in America. Though things haven’t been exactly peaceful or easy the last couple of years, no other country is waging war upon us and trying to take away our home and freedom. We are devastated by what is happening in Ukraine. It is wrong! I made a “We Support Ukraine” badge a few days ago. It is on our sidebar, and you are welcome to take it and use it if you like.
I do have a personal thankful for all the good wishes from friends on the occasion of my birthday earlier this week.
May each of you reading this, as well as your friends and family, remain healthy and safe.
Brian and family are in my prayers. Great poem. I love the addition of your kitties. XO
Excellent post Kitties Blue. The poem was so true and spot on. Let’s talk about stew and those tasty morsels…SHREWS!
Your kitties look right at home in the picture.
Love the poem. Love all the different takes on the photograph.
We are happy that Dad Terry came through his surgery so well and we’re very sad that Sister Dolly went to the bridge.
Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. Scritches all around, a smooch to Cooper Murphy and Sawyer and a hug to mom. ♥
guyz…WELL DONE on thiz weekz poem !!! ewe all look grate in thiz foto two bye de way ~~~ anda happee bee lated birthday two yur mom; we hope her day rocked and de yeer a head iz filled with happeez and healtheez ♥♥♥
We love the “additions” to that photo and your poem was great.
We purr and pray for those in the Ukraine every day. Such a horrible situation.
The Florida Furkids with love and whisker kisses to Sawyer from Noelle
We’ve always wondered what cats think of cat food!
Thank you for the Ukraine badge; it’s a shame, and hopefully, diplomacy will prevail without anyone else waging war.
The kitties make a lovely addition to the photo and the poem is cool too! We are so sad about all that Terry and his family have been through, but we’re happy that he got help so fast and is now back at home.
I meant to add, we too are heartbroken about what is happening to Ukraine.
While it is possible the addition of the kitties to the photo could detract, your placement and keeping with the “theme” does just the opposite. Please do keep letting the sweeties help make the story (or poem).
We were glad to hear that Terry is back home and recovering. What a terrible week for them all.
I think the point of Poetic Thursday is to be creative and you certainly are. I was very saddened by Dolly’s loss and I hope Dad Terry is okay. I had an appendectomy when I was around 20 and came close to dying.
Oh my…..that’s such a perfect poem for the photo and we REALLY love the addition of the Kitties Blue in the poems you’re doing. We hope that Brian and his family have smooth sailing from now on – too much happening so close together is never easy. As for the Ukraine – every day our hearts break a little more….the one thing every single person on the planet deserves is PEACE and they have none. We hope the situation takes a positive turn ASAP and pray for that every day. Thanks for joining us on the poetic journey of Thursdays!
Hugs, Pam and Teddy too
I am so glad that Terry came through his surgery and is back home now.We are praying for a full recovery.
We are in solidarity with all who are supporting the people of Ukraine, and we pray for all this senseless and criminal war upon them to stop.
I love your take on that poem prompt, and I think its fun that you make the picture(s) have some other details…your sweet kitties…to make your poetry to have your ‘flavor’!
