While Mauricio is busy with The Cat Scout Jamboree (for which I am his designated typist), I have decided to do something for the first time…share an old post. I went back to my first year of blogging: 2012. This was the only post that published on a Thursday in November. It just happened to be Thanksgiving.
As none of you were reading my blog then, I thought you might enjoy it. I had only two comments that day, which was one more than usual. Most of my posts back then only garnered one comment. That was always from Meredith (my friend’s daughter).
So here it is with an added photo of Calista Jo (also an oldie but from a post the following week).
ARE KITTIES EVER THANKFUL?
by JANETBLUE on NOVEMBER 22, 2012
Not only are my eight turkeys normally not thankful for anything on this earth—they are cats after all—but they also are pretty ticked off that I am not preparing the Martha Stewart turkey roasted with a white wine and butter soaked cheese cloth covering it and basted in super goopy, maple syrup. Heck, I’m disappointed in myself for not making this fowl of deliciousness!
But I put Tom on a plane yesterday for Argentina so he can teach an International Volleyball Referee Course, and the closest I plan to get to a turkey is Michael Angelo’s frozen Chicken Parmesan. I will miss the roasting turkey and baking pumpkin pie smells. I think I have a pumpkin aroma candle somewhere. That should do the trick!
While I am waiting for the current temperature of 32 degrees to get a little closer to the predicted 64 degrees so I can head outside for a day of gardening, I am watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. And what should be at the start of the parade? The Hello Kitty balloon. What an auspicious start!
Calista did seem pretty happy sharing my blueberry yogurt this morning! To show her appreciation, she sat in my lap purring and kneading. How blessed I am to have such a sweet, little furball to snuggle up to me before taking off to play with one of her favorite toys: the torn-off edge of my granola bar wrapper.
And now for the news I promised you, the weight of today’s newspaper: 4.4 pounds. It fell short of the promised 5 pounds. However, the number of pages of ad inserts far surpassed the prediction. They number a whopping 700. If I planned to shop, I think Black Friday would be well past by the time I poured over all that newsprint. So…off I go to the recycling bin and then the garden.
So that was it. Hope you enjoyed this blast from Thanksgiving past.
I bet the 2014 BLACK FRIDAY newspaper won’t come close to that of 2012. The evening news tonight said that retailers are already advertising and offering BLACK FRIDAY sale prices. My response to BLACK FRIDAY is always, “Just say, ‘No.'” That was actually the post following this Thanksgiving one.

This made me smile! =) You are an amazing writer and have grown such a wonderful community here. Thanks for the mention, can’t wait to see you!
We think we remember that post and boy, did the mention of blueberry yogurt get our mouths watering all over again! Purrs…
That was such a fun flashback! When I was single, I stayed “local” one Thanksgiving. I do not have any family here, and I did not feel like cooking a turkey just for myself. So I had tacos. Go figure. Hahaha.
That’s amazing that the newspaper weighed nearly five pounds. Wow.
So glad to hear you got a thank you note from Swizzle! Now if I could just get her to lay in her bed when I am there (no luck yet). We’ll give her lots of pets and love from you this weekend. 🙂
Hugs!
We like blasts from the past! Our mommy doesn’t shop on Black Friday unless it happens on the computer. She doesn’t do early mornings or crowds very well!
Wow the size of that newspaper and Mum complains about her Saturday and Sunday papers have a squillion leaflets and supplements of things she has no interest in that she tosses in the recycling bin without looking at them!
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
Thank you for this great post! Have a wonderful weekend (even if you find yourself shopping).

Yep, my peeps won’t leave the house on Black Friday. Up here the Sunday papers have been bursting with ads since before Halloween and every weekend has doorbuster specials. But, no, the smell of a candle doesn’t come close to the smell of a baking pumpkin pie.
We’re the same way about Black Friday. No THANK you!
Great post! The mom doesn’t even bother with looking at the Black Friday ads. All of them go directly into the recycle bin!
We enjoy these Throwback Thursday memes! We must try one one Thursday.
A fun blast from the past! We only had one or two comments on our blog when we first started too… my mom and maybe one of my friends. It’s amazing how that has all changed! We enjoyed your 2012 Thanksgiving post. We hope you won’t be spending Thanksgiving along this year! And we agree 100% about Black Friday shopping. Mom has never gone before, and she says she never will. We also don’t support stores being open on Thanksgiving Day! We hope that everyone gets to spend the holiday with their family. Hope you all have a great day!
Sampy sends 2948720234985703 kisses from Camp Joy, and we all send love and hugs to all!
Great post, I have only been reading blogs for 7 months so this was new to me. I am going to weigh our paper this year, thanks for the idea. It is my favorite paper day of the year 🙂
Seems like newspapers are not like comic books in size (maybe even in content). xxoo
OOPS I meant ARE like comic books in size (and perhaps content as well). xxooxx
Great to have a blast from the past! Do the newspaper delivery boys still chuck the paper from the bike as they ride by? I remember seeing that years ago on American TV. It could do some serious injury if you should open the front door at the wrong time!! MOL
I love blasts from the past!

That was a great post back in 2012…….and you’re right of course about newspapers THESE days vs. then…..so much less “poundage” which is fine with us. Love that photo of Calista Jo……CUTE!!! As for the Jamboree – things have gone well so far…..let’s hope that continues!!
Hugs, Sammy and Pam
Fun blast from the past. We can’t believe the size of that newspaper. The head peep needs to start collecting paper for mulching the garden and that would go a long way!
Great blast from the past. OMD re the newspaper. Have a tremendous Thursday.
Best wishes Molly
We’re melting seeing you as you were a kitten ! Purrs, and special kiss on the nose from Zorro
We had fun reading that fur the furst time!
And yes…we do *not* do that Black Friday mass frenzy either. Sanity and peace are worth more than that…and it still irks meowmy that these days the magnitude and earliness of this ‘got to have it’ junk just grows and grows. If peeps would spend time with their loved ones in meaningful ways that would be worth more than any $$ could buy. We grew up with hardly any $$ but we lacked for nothing, having parents, clothing, food and a roof over our heads. Thats what matters.
What an adorable photo of Calista Jo!
Thanks for sharing this post, sweetie! It’s a great one! 🙂 Have a wonderful Thursday! 😀 xx Roxy & Tigerlino <3
We love your flashback. Sounds like you get a whopper of a paper! That should make lots of great ripping, er, reading.
MOL!
I love it! Blasts from the past sometimes shows us not much has changed, but in this case, I think the way we shop has now undergone a transformation. Some weeks, the UPS man is my steady friend. Enjoyed your post, Janet.
