Astrid’s and Calista Jo’s first human mom, Diane from Barn Cat Buddies, advertised Calista for adoption by stating she had the loudest purr she’d ever heard. She must have sent Astrid on to her second, human mom, Xan, before she had gained her full purring ability because at this point in time, I think she is winning the purr-off.

Kittens, Astrid and Lisbeth, with mom #2, Xan.
I will admit that, for her size, Calista can really crank it up, especially when she is sitting in my lap. But I have heard Astrid purring when she’s in another room!
I saw a lady on TV several month’s ago whose cat has the Guinness Book of World Records top award for purring for a domestic cat. His name is Smokey, and he lives in the United Kingdom. His purr was measured on March 25, 2011. It reached 67.7 dB on a Class 1 sound level meter.

Calista was purring loudly when Tom snapped this photo.
I wasn’t all that impressed when Smokey demonstrated his skill for the TV cameras. Maybe he had a little stage fright.
So…I am thinking, I better find one of those meters and have Astrid and Calista Jo challenge Smokey’s record. It might be time to knock him off his purring pedestal!
UPDATE: A rescued cat, Merlin, knocked Smokey off his purring pedestal on April 2, 2015. His purr was recorded at 67.8 decibals. Merlin lives in Torquay, Devon, UK, with Tracy Westwood. He was 11 years old when he set his record.
How fun to see Astrid and CJ when they were wee little ones. Ava is a pretty good purrer, but 67.8 decibels … WHOA!
Angel Tamir had such a loud purr that Mom could hear him in the other room too.

Some kitties really DO have loud purrs!
Perhaps the recording studio in Roanoke…The Blues Cat Symphony. Have all kinds of fun in T.**
Hope you had a good week, yay for purring!
