A Visit to Pop’s – National Banana Split Day
Sawyer sits by the teleportation tunnel waiting for Periwinkle. After his difficult weekend, he cannot wait to see her and get some whisker kisses and lots of paw hugs. He hops from paw to paw in anticipation, listening for the whoosh of her arrival.
After several more minutes, Periwinkle comes tumbling out of the tunnel right into Stinky’s waiting paws. Hugging each other, Periwinkle tells Stinky how sorry she is about his cluster of seizures on Saturday. She adds, “We can just hang out at your house if you are too tired to go anywhere.”
“Thanks Periwinkle, but we have a low-key adventure today, which is really close by. Mom is going to take us; though, as she thinks it is too hot for us to walk. Let me find her and tell her you are here.”
Stinky returns with his mom and the three climb into her car, and the tabbies get buckled into the back seat.
It only takes a few minutes to arrive at their destination…a cute little shop called Pop’s. Stinky’s mom unbuckles the kitties and tells Stinky to call her when they are ready to come home.
As they approach the shop Periwinkle starts reading the outside signs and gets super excited, bouncing up and down and squealing, “Ice cream, ice cream, I’m screaming for ice cream!”
As Stinky laughs, he takes Periwinkle’s paw and leads her inside while explaining that it is National Banana Split Day, and he thought it would be something fun to try.
They enter, find a booth and look at the menus.
“Stinky, I want to try that banana split. Do you think we can ask them to use a nip nanner?”
Stinky does his best not to laugh, as he tells Periwinkle that nip nanners really aren’t edible. Of course, Periwinkle know this and rolls her eyes at Stinky. He realizes she’s just joking and they both begin giggling.
When the waitress comes to the table they order their banana split. While they wait for their order, Stinky tells Periwinkle about the tailless skink that is loose somewhere in his house. “Calista Jo brought it in a couple of days ago, but all Mom found was the severed, wiggly, blue tail in the laundry room. Then Chris saw the live skink in the sun porch yesterday.”
“Can we search for it when we get back to your house?” asks Periwinkle while bouncing up and down in her seat.
Stinky winks at her and gives her a paws up sign as the waitress delivers their banana split.
Without another word, the tabbies dig in and don’t come up for air until they have licked the dish clean! When they see each other’s faces, they are beset by another case of the giggles. Not wanting to make a scene by licking the ice cream off of each other’s faces, they use napkins to clean up as best they can.
“Stinky, that was really yummy, but can we pay now, so we can get back to your house and look for that skink?” asks Periwinkle.
“Okey dokey, Periwinkle,” Stinky says. He pays, calls his mom to pick them up, and the tabbies go outside to wait.
Periwinkle remarks that the neighborhood is cute, and Stinky tells her that The Grandin Theatre where they went on one of their adventures prior to the coronavirus is just around the corner.
Just then, Stinky’s mom pulls up, and the tabbies hop in the car.
When they arrive at Stinky’s house, they hurry inside to go skink hunting. Unfortunately, after a couple of hours searching, the skink continues to remain elusive. Working up an appetite from the search, the tabbies have a picnic in the yard.
When their bellies are full the tabbies have a nice nap. Then it is time for Periwinkle to head home. Periwinkle asks Stinky to send some purrs and POTP to her sisfur, Allie, who hasn’t been feeling well. After Stinky’s promise to do that and oodles of paw hugs and whisker kisses, the tabbies say their goodbyes. Periwinkle enters the tunnel, and in a whoosh is gone.
With tears in his eyes, Stinky returns to the house determined to find the skink and mail it to Periwinkle.

Dear Stinky,
That was such a fun adventure. I loved the banana split and searching for the skink. I’ll bet we find him one of these days!!!
paw pats and headbonks,
Periwinkle
Periwinkle and Stinky, do you know that I’ve never had a banana split?
However, I’ve had my share of ice cream, and we too have a special shop that we adore for yummy ice cream. It’s called Ray’s, in Royal Oak, Michigan.
The Hubby and I used to live near it, and would walk back and forth (to burn off those calories!) I recall they made Cinnamon ice cream, that was SO GOOD!
Glad you two had a good time together.
Oh boy! I love going “skinking” too so I know what fun those two would have had chasing the skink. The banana split looks interesting – my Mom used to LOVE them when she was a kid (a million years ago) but hasn’t had one in forever. You two sure did have a great adventure this week – thanks for sharing with all of us.
Hugs, Teddy
Good luck finding the skink!
