Playing in the Dirt
Stinky bounces from paw to paw as he waits for Periwinkle to arrive. When she comes tumbling out of the teleportation tunnel, he throws his arms around her in a huge paw hug. “I am so happy to see you,” he shouts, not realizing his mouth is right near Periwinkle’s ear. She jumps back, but isn’t angry and gives him a huge grin. “I am thrilled to see you too and excited to find out what we are going to do today,” says Periwinkle.
“I really hope you like what I have planned. We are staying here and helping my mom repot some plants,” Stinky tells her. Disappointment is evident on his face when he sees a little frown on Periwinkle’s face. Stinky doesn’t say anything more; he just grabs Periwinkle’s paw and leads her to the backyard. When they arrive among the pots and plants, Stinky says, “I promise this will be fun. We get to play in the dirt.” He then asks, “Does your mom ever let you do that?”
“Of course not, silly. I am a house cat!”
“Well that’s what makes our adventures extra fun. We can do whatever we want one day a week, and I think playing in the dirt sounds like oodles of fun,” Stinky tells her.
“But, it also sounds like a lot of work,” Periwinkle tells him.
“We don’t have to do it all ourselves. My mom is going to help,“ Stinky tells her while pointing out the plants.
“Wow, Stinky, are we going to plant all of those? That will take all day!”
“I think we are only going to do the purple ones. Mom will plant the coleus in her pots out front tomorrow, and my dad will probably plant the herbs.”
“Whew, that’s a relief,” Periwinkle tells him and asks Mom Janet the names of the flowers.
She tells Periwinkle that they will be planting gomphrena, which are the bright pink flowers, heliotrope, ageratum and lobelia.
The tabbies dig in and start filling the pots with dirt and shaking fertilizer into them in preparation for Mom Janet to put the plants in.
When they are finished, Mom Janet puts the pots on the retaining wall, and the tabbies admire their work.
“These look really great, Stinky, especially with those peonies in the background.” Periwinkle gives Stinky a whisker kiss and adds, “I actually did have fun. I’m happy I got to help do this, and I can’t wait to come back and see the plants after they get bigger.” Periwinkle then asks if they can check out some of the other flowers in the garden?
Touring the Garden
“Hey, Stinky, this is one cute kitty. Does he have a name?” asks Periwinkle.
“I don’t think so,” replies Stinky. “He’s just for decoration.”
“Stinky, these irises are beautiful. I love the purple color.”
“I am so happy I got to see these azaleas in bloom, Stinky. They are gorgeous!”
After a garden tour, it is time for the tabbies to wash the dirt from their paws. While doing that, Stinky tells Periwinkle how Kizmet snuck out of the catio screen door before Periwinkle arrived. “She really gave Mom a fit. She would run down the stairs to the yard. When Mom got there, she would run back upstairs, but just as Mom would get to the top, she would run down again. They did that five or six times, before Mom got her hands on her.”
Periwinkle knows that was not a good thing, but she can’t help but giggle, and she hides behind her paws.
Finally it is time for the tabbies to kick back and enjoy the catio with Stinky’s fursibs and share some Temptations treats and conversation.
After a nice visit, Stinky walks Periwinkle to the teleportahion tunnel where they share lots of whisker kisses and paw hugs. And with the usual tears in their eyes, they say, “good-bye,” and Periwinkle is gone in a whoosh.

That was such a good time looking at your beautiful garden Stinky. What fun watching you and Periwinkle dig in the dirt to help Mom and you even got dirty paws MOL. We get those a little at home too. Less now that the grass has grown in from winter. Thanks for having us along for the fun!
Wow, you two sure did a great job helping! Can you come and help us with our planting, too? Please? 🙂
WoW! What a great job you guys did! Do you like diggin in the garden as much as me? And Stinkys Mom’s yard looks terrific! Look at all those lovely blossoms! Our Mom is looking forward to ours starting.
Stinky’s mom has so many beautiful flowers. XO
Maybe you two can help plant some catnip another time.
We’re glad your Mom safely corralled Kizmet ! Hope she had her FitBit on so her steps got counted,
That was fun you two and you are both super helpers!
Planting is so much fun. I’m going to help mom when she starts. It’s a bit early here for transplants. The transplants usually go in at the beginning of June. Seeds go in around May 24th. So we are antsy to start but it still gets down to 0c at night.
Tyebe….hugs to Snap
Scientists say that working in dirt is good for a person; something about smells and microbial effects.
You two are welcome in my yard anytime, to do some gardening…*wink*
What a great job you both did! Those flowers are so pretty. And getting your paws in some dirt had to feel good. 🙂
You two did a great job helping mom Janet with the planting of those beautiful flowers. I sure enjoyed seeing your beautiful garden too. Well done. Another fine adventure.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Scritches all around and my best to mom Janet. ♥
We like to be with Mom when she is doing stuff outside, but wer’re discouraged from “helping.” Your plants and pots look pretty. XOX Lucy and Xena
Stinky,
I had such a fun time today. I liked getting my paws into the dirt and helping in the garden. I loved seeing your flowers because we don’t have anything like them at my house.
Paw pats and headbonks,
your girlfriend,
Periwinkle
What a pawsome adventure this week! Helping Mom Janet pot up all those beautiful plants was a lot of work but just look how GORGEOUS those plants look decorating the retaining wall! You all could make a fortune if you started up a planting business – everyone wishes someone ELSE would do their planting for them! HAHAHAHAHA
Hugs, Teddy
That was great, can you come and help our petcretary next?? MOL!
Those planters are gorgeous as are all the flowers, love those peonies. Mine didn’t like where they were transplanted after they were rescued from a bulldozer…and they only make a few leaves but no flowers. Hmmm, might need you to come by and help my transplant them all over again!
