THANKFUL FOR 11 YEARS

by Janet Blue on October 14, 2021

Giulietta (March 18, 2010 – October 10, 2021)

When Giulietta shared her selfie with you on Sunday, both she and I knew it would be her last. At the time, however, we weren’t prepared to share or accept that fact.

When I adopted this ball of floof on May 7, 2010, she and her sister were just seven weeks old. They were undoubtedly the cutest kittens I’d ever seen. We nicknamed them Tribble and Trouble, after the Star Trek episode, ‘The Trouble with Tribbles.” At the time, I had no idea neither would stay in our lives for such a short time. Fiona left us at age six on December 1, 2016, which seems like only a minute ago. And now, at just age 11, Giulietta has been reunited with her sister.

Giulietta had been lethargic for a few days. Being a low-energy cat and somewhat reclusive since losing her sister, we were not immediately concerned. Then Dad Tom noticed her tongue looked white. Finding her gums were white as well, we took her for a check-up on October 7. She was anemic and after blood work, we were given a preliminary diagnosis of large cell lymphocytic leukemia. We didn’t know the vet Giulietta saw, but he didn’t think she was critical. His plan was to refer her to the Vet School at Virginia Tech. We agreed and brought Giulietta home.

The following morning she was having trouble breathing, and we went back to our vet’s office. She was given some oxygen, and we brought her home again with oral steroids and antibiotics. It was obvious, however, that she was quickly going downhill and in pain. I contacted our wonderful, semi-retired, long-time vet, Dr. Kathie Neel.

Saying Good-Bye

On Sunday morning, Dr. Neel came to the house and helped Giulietta join her beloved sister, Fiona. It was all ridiculously sudden, and neither Dad Tom nor I were prepared to lose her. But it was the right thing to do, and she passed peacefully in my arms.  Yesterday, Dad Tom and I placed her to rest in a spot in the garden not too far from Mau. I will be making a unique marker for her and will share a photo when it is in place.

Here is a special collage of our beautiful girl.

Angel Giulietta

Thankful Thursday

Eleven years with Giulietta was not nearly enough. She was a sweet and precious girl, and like her sister, her life was too short. But we are so thankful for the time we had together. She will be remembered lovingly and stay in our hearts always.

Angel Giulietta is joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday blog hop. If you’d like to join Giulietta there, please post on your blog for what you are thankful and then click on Brian’s badge.

Cleo’s dad here. My heart goes out to you on the loss of your darling girl Giulietta, as I know- as do so many others- how your heart hurts. Even though she’s no longer suffering it’s no easier knowing there’ll be that emptiness in your home for a long time. It’s crazy how such furry little creatures can attach their loving and loyal selves to us humans. I’m not ashamed to admit I’m tearing up while typing this as it’s yet another harsh reminder of just how short the lives of our owners can be. I still, after all these years, miss my old Orbit and Isaac before him, and our dear girl Cleo has been showing signs of suffering from arthritis and I dread going through what we all must again any time soon. Sending you warm hugs, and purrs from Cleo at this terribly sad time.

You know our hearts ache for you…..it was so hard going away on vacation knowing you were mourning the loss of beautiful Giulietta. I thought about you a lot and hoped that knowing Fiona and her sister were together again would provide some comfort. The photo of the girls as kittens is BEYOND precious. Memories are permanent………….

Our eyes were too leaky to post yesterday. I always have loved both Giulietta and Angel Fiona. They reminded me so very much of my very first cat. Gray was part of my life until she went over the bridge at the age of 13. I loved Giulietta’s attitudes and her photos! Thanks so very much for sharing her with us, each time she always brought back such loving memories. I know you will miss your wonderful gray girl! Sending you virtual hugs! Barb

How sad for the whole Blue family. Giulietta, was a gorgeous girl as was her sister Fiona. They will play together again. You and Tom have enjoyed and loved Giulietta.and she returned this love but being herself. The pain is sharp now but when the grieving subsides you’ll be left with such sweet memories.

You are now undertaking the long journey through grief. While others may share that grief we all walk it alone. There are no right or wrong paths, no proper way to carry oneself on the trek, no set amount of time to complete it. Some steps will come easier than others. There will be rogue waves of grief that you won’t see coming, and knock you back days. But you will come through it. If you get lost let us know. We have been through it before and we might be able to help you find the way out.

We are so very sad to hear this news about fluffy furred and curly whiskered Giulietta. We all loved her pretty little eye heart, floof and whiskers along with her fun personality. I liked how she was her own cat and did her own thing within the family much as I do. When a kitty gets sick really quickly, even if you may know they are not the healthiest, it is so hard to take. We always think if there was something to do but we cats are so darn independent we wont tell anyone about how we feel. We are all crying here with Dad as we remember our dear curly whiskered friend. Purrs and prayers of support to you all!

Giulietta looks very much like my Neville, but with a decidedly feminine touch. And eleven years is never enough with such creatures. We want our time with them to go on and on, and it’s unfair when they must leave early, very unfair. But Giulietta will be waiting, with Fiona, for her favourite people. Godspeed, Giulietta.
