Thankful Thursday

A POEM: VISITING THE VETERINARIAN

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Today we were challenged by Teddy and Angel Sammy (Two Spoiled Cats) to write a poem using the prompt letter “V.” Though they provided us with four possible subjects, 1) Vicious, 2) Vanity, 3) Vigorous and 4) View, we selected one of our own: veterinarians. We kitties complain a lot about having to visit the vet, but we know they have our well-being at heart. With that in mind, we are dedicating our poem to our veterinarian—Dr. Kathy Neel, Vinton Veterinarian Hospital, Vinton, Virginia.

Visiting the Veterinarian

Veterinarians are a necessary evil,
But we despise the upheaval.
When we see the PTU, we run;
Going to the vet isn’t really fun.
But we don’t want to grouse,
As our vet comes to the house.
Unless we need special care,
Which thankfully is very rare.
Fiona had to go almost every week
To see if treatment should be tweaked.
She didn’t enjoy those countless trips,
But a complaint never passed her lips.
The rest of us tend to meyowl a lot.
Good travelers we definitely are not.
But we always behave for Dr. Neel;
Though, being at the vet isn’t ideal.
If you have to go, try your nerves to quell,
As our vets are there to keep us healthy and well.

I miss you each day.

Eleven months ago, I lost my sisfur, Fiona. I still miss her as do Mom and Dad. She was beautiful and special, so I decided to remember her today with this little haiku. I don’t think I need more words to describe exactly how I feel.

The prompt letter this week for our poem was, “U.” That’s one tough letter with few good words from which to select. Because of that, I selected one of the prompt words. The words for this week are: 1) Ugly, 2) Under, 3) Uncle and 4) Until.

We are joining Teddy and Angel Sammy’s Thoroughly Poetic Thursday. To read Sammy’s poem, which he transmits from the Bridge each week, and find links to other poems, click on the badge below.

ODE TO MY TUMMY BY COOPER MURPHY

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

I certainly hope you are not sick of seeing me. One of the prompt words for today’s poem, fit me to a “T.” (I also hope you don’t mind my little pun.) Anyhoo, can you guess which of these words I used as my subject: 1) Tiger, 2) Tummy, 3) Tired or 4) Travel. Now that I review the words, I guess that isn’t the no-brainer I thought it was. Three of those words purrfectly describe the photos below.

Now that you’ve had your opportunity to “squeee,” here’s my poem.

ODE TO MY TUMMY

I like my ginger tabby tummy.
It is big and oh so round.
Mom thinks I’m pretty lucky,
It doesn’t drag along the ground.

I must confess I like to eat,
But I swear I’m not a pudgy pig.
It just makes me feel comforted
When my tummy is really big.

I remember food was scarce
When I was on the street alone,
Hoping someone would rescue me
And offer me a happy home.

Keeping myself well fed and full
Gives me the ultimate pleasure,
Which is why my tummy is ample
And probably too big to measure.

Before I turn into a kitty blimp,
Mom hopes I’ll finally feel secure,
Knowing I will never starve again
And not need to hold noms so dear.

But I must admit that I like my tummy,
And I think Mom and Dad must agree.
It’s why I display it proudly,
And it fits my ginger personality.

Yes, I like to wallow on my back,
But if you think I’m the one and only,
You’ll find that’s not completely true…
Just ask Teddy to show you his tummy!

I am joining Thoroughly Poetic Thursday over at Teddy and Angel Sammy’s blog, Two Spoiled Cats. Yep…that’s the same Teddy I mentioned in my poem. He and I are gingersnap brothers.

Thankful Thursday

Every Thursday, we also join the blog hop hosted by friend, Brian. Brian and his family are returning to blogging today after taking a short break to mourn the loss of Sister Sascha. If you have not left a message of support for Brian and his family, please do so today.

I have a personal thankful today, as I mentioned in my poem. I am grateful for being rescued from the cold and snow by my humans’ friend and being adopted by Mom and Dad after they exhausted every avenue in trying to locate my original humans. As Brian always says, “Adopt cats, we deserve it.”

ANYBODY WANT TO SNUGGLE?

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

It was time last night to pull out our rhyming dictionary once again and see what we could come up with for this week’s poem. We had four prompt words to select from, and this week we actually used one of them. This week’s prompt letter is “S.” The words are 1) Sunny, 2) Shrimp, 3) Shoe and 4) Snuggle.

Here’s our poem.

Anybody Want to Snuggle?

When it’s time for a warm snuggle,
We don’t want to have a struggle
To get ourselves some prime real estate.
Where we can curl up and ruminate—
And maybe get a few good scritches
To ease any annoying itches.
We want to snuggle up really close
To a human who can be our host
For an evening of dreamy pleasure
And maybe a treat for good measure.
But another cat will due in a pinch,
As long as they don’t try to inch
Into a space we’ve claimed as our own.
Mom doesn’t want to hear us hiss or moan.
But if a human becomes available,
We find their snuggles more enjoyable.
So, please excuse us, we must say, “so long.”
Next to our humans is where we belong.

Misty May and Calista Jo snuggle with Mom and each other.

We know you cannot tell from this photo but Misty May and Calista Jo are not only snuggling with each other but with our mom as well. Sometimes to get Mom and Dad snuggles, we have to share.

We are purrticipating in Teddy and Angel Sammy’s poetry day at Two Spoiled Cats, as we do each week. We encourage you to write a poem and join in the fun. Next week’s prompt letter will be “T.” You can find the prompt words on their blog as well as links to other poems by clicking on the their badge.

Thankful Thursday

We bet you can guess what Kitties Blue are thankful for this week. That’s right…snuggles. As the temperatures go down, the competition to snuggle with a human will become fierce. That’s when more kitty-kitty snuggling will become necessary. Until then, it is every cat for him or herself.

This is a blog hop hosted each week by our friend, Brian. To join in, click on his badge below.

Tocktober

Tomorrow is a big day in the blogosphere. It’s the day we all show off our “tocks.” We know many of you have been “showing-off” all month, but we have been keeping our tocks under wraps until tomorrow. No hints on which of us will be purrticipating. You’ll just have to drop by to see. Until then…

REMEMBERING: A POEM FOR LILY OLIVIA

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

We seem to be cruising right through the alphabet again and are up to “R” as our prompt letter for this week’s poem. Poet extraordinaire and host of Thoroughly Poetic Thursday along with brother Teddy, Angel Sammy gave us some suggestions for poem subjects as well. They are: 1) Rain, 2) Run, 3) Ruin and 4) Rabbit. Hard…right? So, as often happens, we went our own way. This week we handed the task off to Mom and told her to write about whatever she wanted. Who knew she’d choose Lily Olivia. We can’t think of anything Lily’s done to deserve this honor…except for getting old. From the look of this poem, it appears that’s what Mom was thinking as well.

To read Sammy’s poem (transmitted each week from the Rainbow Bridge) or find links to other poems, click on his badge. You will be magically whisked away to Two Spoiled Cats.

But enough of our blathering. Take it away, Mom.

Remembering

Do you remember when you were a tiny cat?
You followed me home and that was that.
Brothers Sebastian, Parker and Winston came too,
But they didn’t stay…this home was only for you.
You joined a family different from today’s.
You were on the bottom with dues to pay.
Now you’re the top cat…have been so for some time.
Unfortunately, however, you’re no longer in your prime.
Where once you might have wanted to run and play,
Now you are content to snooze the day away.
But you still have plenty of spunk and catitude
And a huge appetite for nommy treats and food.

We almost lost you when you were just four.
I found you cowering outside the back door.
You were bloodied and broken and gave me a fright,
But to survive your injuries, you never gave up the fight.
Now you are a few months from turning nineteen
And rightly are considered the Kitties Blue queen.
Some days you drive me crazy with constant complaints,
Then I remind myself…you’re a calico, not a saint!
Whatever you do at your age is totally okay with me.
I just want more time with you in our kitty family.
I’ll always remember you following me home as a tiny cat.
You leapt into my heart and that was that!

It is a miracle that Lily Olivia is with us today. She can drive me crazy with her constant caterwauling when it’s time to eat or when she stares at me while I sleep, but I am grateful everyday that she is here to keep me on my toes. And with that, we are joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday blog hop. To join, click on his badge.

KITTIES BLUE HAVE QUESTIONS

Our humans finally have returned after abandoning us for a week. Mom says she had a blast at her reunion…way better than all four years of high school. We are happy she and Dad Tom had a good time, but we are delighted to have them home again. We are especially pleased that we will be able to start visiting everyone again. Certainly hope we haven’t missed too much!

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Here’s our poem for Angel Sammy and Teddy’s poetry day. This week’s prompt letter is “Q.” These are the suggested subjects for the week: 1) Quiet, 2) Quarrel, 3) Q-Tip and 4) Quack. We went rogue, as we often do.

Questions Without Answers

Some questions have no answers.
We know this to be true—
Like why you had to leave us
Just to see old friends from school.
Or why you had to pet the tuxie cat
That you had never met before.
Or why you stayed away from us a week
When we’re the ones you do adore.
Though Chris treats us like royalty
With lots of Temptations and catnip,
She isn’t here at night to snuggle,
So please don’t take another trip!

REMEMBER ME THURSDAY 2017

Remember Me Thursday

Official Partner Remember Me Thursday & #RememberTheRescue

We are joining Remember Me Thursday® as an “Official Partner” and have lit a candle at RememberMeThursday.org for our Charlotte. The Remember Me Thursday® global awareness campaign encourages individuals to light a candle this day (literally or virtually) and to opt to adopt, reducing the millions of orphan pets euthanized each year.

Charlotte is the kitty we currently sponsor at PAWS of Connecticut. Charlotte is between three and four years old. She was a stray living on the streets with a litter of kittens. A kind lady started taking care of mom and kittens, but could not bring her into her home. Fearing Charlotte and the female kittens would become pregnant, she took them to PAWS.

Charlotte is said to be shy, but she’s also sweet and gentle. She loves to be petted and brushed and will make air biscuits when her tummy is rubbed. She is good with other cats but timid around small children.

Charlotte is spayed, current on her vaccinations, microchipped and negative for FIV and FeLV.

If you would be interested in adopting Charlotte, or know someone who might be, please click on the PAWS link above.

Candles lit on this day (the fourth Thursday of September annually), across the world, honor the pets who lose their lives without the opportunity to know the comforts of a loving home. These candles shine brightly on the millions of healthy pets who are still awaiting adoption—just like our calico friend, Charlotte.

Remember Me Thursday

This being Angel Sammy and Teddy’s (Two Spoiled Cats) Thoroughly Poetic Thursday, I am resharing the poem I wrote last year for this occasion. This week’s prompt letter is “P.” This poem, however, was written originally for an “O” prompt. I made two subtle changes to meet today’s challenge. (To see Sammy’s poem and find links to other poems, click on the link above.)

PLEASE OPT TO ADOPT ORPHAN CATS

Most of us were orphans at one time,
Whether roaming the streets or shelter confined.
But then one day our luck suddenly changed.
A human stopped in whose heart we would claim.
They took us home to keep us safe forever
With food, shelter and love as our caregiver.
So today, will you please a candle light
And pray for the orphans to not give up the fight,
As they wait and long for their special human
To find them and become their number one fan.

ODD STILL LIFE WITH CATS

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

After yesterday’s post, we didn’t think our mom could get any crazier, but we were wrong. It is evident now that she has more than one screw loose, and that they are rattling around in her head. We have no idea what to make of this ODD poem or the graphic she made to accompany it. But before we let you judge for yourselves, a bit of explanation is required.

This week’s Thoroughly Poetic Thursday, hosted by Angel Sammy and Teddy (Two Spoiled Cats), has “O” as its prompt letter. The prompt words selected for this week are 1) Open, 2) Octopus, 3) Olive and 4) Odd. As you can see, they really having nothing in common with each other. Nonetheless, Ms. Crazypants decided she’d include them all in one poem. For better or worse, here it is.

Cat Foods

Madison was crazy for green olive juice.
We know that is definitely odd.
But Cooper goes nutty for watermelon,
So to his strange taste, we also give a nod.

Thelma wanted water from steamed broccoli,
Yet another kitty with a crazy food festish.
Daphne stripped the flesh from artichoke leaves—
An additional unusual food for a cat to relish.

None of us have ever eaten octopus.
How could we with “puss” in its name?
But open a can of tuna; add some mayo,
And any leftovers are fair game.

Lily Olivia begs for and eats almost anything.
She never misses a meal and isn’t picky.
But some of us aren’t open to just any noms.
In fact, Giulietta is darn persnickety.

Calista will leave her food to pilfer from others,
But for some odd reason, she doesn’t like treats.
Like humans, every cat has its own food obsessions,
So you can never predict what they’ll like to eat.

© Janet Buickerood Blue 09/20/2017

So Mom was going to try to attribute this poem to us, but we said, “no way.” We told her that she wrote it, so she had to claim it. But if you thought the poem was ODD, check out this graphic. It is totally bizarre.

Angel cats, Thelma and Madison, in a peculiar still life.

Thankful Thursday

We are participating in Brian’s Thankful Thursday blog hop as well. We feel a tad bit guilty being grateful for anything while so many others are suffering the ravages of hurricanes and an earthquake. All this devastation makes us very sad.

But we are grateful to have so many finds in the blogosphere, and want to thank three in particular: Pipo, Mr.Jack Freckles and Mom Ingrid from Meezer’s Mews & Freckles’ Woofs.

They sent Mauricio and Misty May this precious card for their birthday. Check out those cute mice!

ARE YOU NAUGHTY?

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

If it’s Thursday, it must be time for some poetry. Mom wasn’t feeling like writing anything this week, so she left the task to us. The prompt letter is “N.” We decided to take the easy route, however, and use one of the prompt words as our subject. Those words are: 1) Naughty, 2) Nice, 3) Normal and 4) New. We started our poem by combining naughty and nice, but then we thought it would be more truthful just to write about “naughty.”

We Don’t Try to Be Naughty

Sometimes we are naughty.
Cats cannot always control themselves.
Often we’ll trip you on the stairs
And steal treats right off the shelves.

Shredding your newspaper isn’t malicious,
To us it’s our way to get your attention.
And kneading your flesh with claws extended
Isn’t intended to cause you tension.

Nice to naughty can come in a whisker’s flick
When a misplaced paw breaks a bauble,
But we never do it on purpose.
We don’t try to get ourselves in trouble.

Horking in your shoe really isn’t intentional,
As when we make you unhappy, we are sad.
Naughty somehow just comes naturally.
We never set out to make you mad.

When you think we are being naughty,
Just remember it’s not deliberate,
We’re just happy and frisky kitties…
Not uncaring and badly behaved misfits!

Cooper Murphy works on our poem about being naughty.

OUR MOM THE SLACKER

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

As we do every Thursday, we are joining Angel Sammy and Teddy from Two Spoiled Cats for their day of poetry. This week’s prompt letter is “M.” The four words suggested as topics are: 1) Marvelous, 2) Mom, 3) Mud and 4) Meow. It was a difficult choice, but we decided on mom. We must warn you, however, that our poem may not be what you’d expect.

Our Mom the Slacker

We wish the word nice described our mom,
But we can tell you that would be buncombe.
She could be if she’d give us more treats
Or something nommy off her plate to eat.

She doesn’t bring us visiting nearly enough.
She claims her time is filled with other stuff.
But we know that’s only a lame excuse,
So she can get away with this dastardly kitty abuse.

Nothing is more important than doing our bidding.
If she thinks otherwise, she is only kidding
Herself but definitely never these Kitties Blue.
We know when our mom is not telling true.

Anything that isn’t all about us,
Is just a lot of bother and fuss.
A mom should give 100 percent for her cats.
That’s just how it is; it’s a matter of fact.

What we want are lots and lots of scritches
And oodles of lap time without her bitches.
Of snuggles and cuddles we deserve lots more
And extra toys so we don’t become bored.

We think it might be time to go on strike,
Unless she begins doing exactly what we like—
Filling our bowls to the top with fresh fishes
And letting us lick all the human dishes.

We also want to stay on the catio 24/7,
As that would be our idea of total heaven.
But we suspect nothing will change,
And for a new mom we’ll need to arrange.

© Kitties Blue 09/06/2017

We hope everyone knows that we are just joking. Both our mom and dad are terrific, and we are all spoiled. But what cat couldn’t use more love and treats and toys!

Prayers Please

We are not thankful, however, for is this new hurricane heading directly for Florida. Mom and Dad have personal friends in Florida, and we have lots of blogging friends there. We are especially worried for Mom Sharon and Allie and Raz (Friends Furever). Dad Bill remains in the hospital where he is safe; though, he still needs your healing prayers.

Please pray for everyone in Florida that they remain unharmed. It is our fervent wish that Irma weakens before reaching Florida and veers away out into the Atlantic far enough not to impact anyone living on the east coast.
