Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #83

Today we kitties are completing the first two fill-ins, as Mom says she can’t even remember last week. Our completions are in navy blue and Mom’s are in teal.

1. The best part of last week was helping with Christmas decorating. We hope you don’t mind that we are sharing a decorating photo from a few years ago that includes Fiona along with Lisbeth and Giulietta.

2. The worst part of last week was Sawyer becoming an official member of the Kitties Blue crew. Dad took this photo last night. Sawyer has grown a lot in the past 10 days. He looks very serious but a tad less grumpy than in early photos.

We are allowing Mom to complete the final two fill-ins as she is the one who has projects and does the holiday gift shopping.

3.  Integrating Sawyer into the family is a Winter project that I will be working on. I think Sawyer has met all the kitties at this point, but the only interaction he’s really had is with Cooper Murphy. I also will be spending the next month trying to keep Cooper Murphy from removing ornaments and climbing the Christmas Tree.

4. A holiday gift that I always buy for someone is Philosophy 3-in-1 shower gel in one of my favorite, yummy fragrances, such as Fresh Cream and Cinnamon Buns.

Friendly Fill-Ins is a weekly blog hop hosted by our friends Ellen (15 and Meowing) and Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). You can find the sentences they have created for completion on their blogs each Thursday. To join the hop, click on the badge below. You will be taken to Annie’s blog.

Mom will be back in charge tomorrow with some art for Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s Caturday Art blog hop.

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #81

1. I start to decorate for Christmas/Hanukkah whenever I can get to it. It takes me about two weeks, so I hope to begin this coming Monday.

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #81

Kitties Blue love to help with the decorating.

2. I prefer a faux Christmas tree because I like to leave it up until at least Epiphany; though, the rule is it must be down by Groundhog Day. We went to a faux tree after we discovered second cat Steamer was allergic and to keep my arms from breaking out in a rash whenever I decorated and undecorated the tree. One of the other reasons for a faux tree is that I drove Tom crazy every year trying too find the perfect tree!

3. The best thing about the holidays is sitting quietly in the living room and relaxing with just the tree and garlands lit.

4. The worst thing about the holidays is Black Friday. As I say every year, “Just say, ‘No!'”

This is a blog hop hosted each week by friends, Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). You can find the sentences t compete on their blogs on Thursday and enter the hop on Annie’s big on Friday. To join in the fun, click on the badge below.

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week 62

Once again, I am joining Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Annie’s (McGufffy’s Reader) weekly fill-in blog hop. It’s always interesting to see what sentences they select for us to complete. Sometimes they are cat-friendly and Kitties Blue can complete them. Other times, like this week, they are more human-oriented. Anyhoo, here’s how I completed the fill-ins this week. As always, my completions are in teal italics.

1. My inner child likes to color; though, I haven’t had much time for it since I became a member of my 50th High School Reunion planning committee and started researching to find missing classmates.

2. My favorite month is probably December, as I love all the Christmas lights and decorations. I did not decorate last Christmas, as I just didn’t have the heart after Fiona passed on December 1.

Some Christmas photos from 2015. Maybe if we all stare at these long enough, we can channel some cooler temperatures!

3. My favorite commercial(s) is are the ones for Progressive Insurance with Susan Lucci, as they always make me laugh as do the State Farm Insurance commercials with J.K. Simmons, especially the one with the synchronized swimming dogs in the flooded living room.  To be truthful, I usually zone out when commercials are on, and in most cases I fast forward through them as I record most things on DVR.

4. Personally, I don’t care for okra, rude and disrespectful people, individuals who are cruel to animals and those who abandon their pets.

Both Annie and Ellen post the fill-in statements on their blogs on Thursday, and on Friday we complete them and then zip on over to Annie’s to link up for the blog hop. If you haven’t joined in, why not? This is a great way to learn more about your blogging friends. Click on the badge at the top of the post to be transported to McGuffy’s Reader.

Caturday Art

Tomorrow is Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty‘s Caturday Art blog hop. This is another hop not to be missed. It gives you the opportunity to use the many photo-editing apps and your imagination to create something beautiful, unusual, funky, etc.

Tomorrow, Kitties Blue will be having a guest artist. We’ve already had a sneak peek at the art. We are certain you will like it. So please come back to visit then.

Thoroughly Poetic & Thankful Thursday

Close to My Heart

I have a special someone in my life.
I love him with all my heart.
He is gentle, kind and understanding.
And did I mention, he is smart?

He’s the handsome Cat Scout Charles.
He makes all my dreams come true.
With his loving and caring ways,
He makes me happy when I’m blue.

He’s Prince Charming and my hero
For his helpfulness for others.
He got a special peer award at Scouts,
And Mau considers him a brother.

Charles sends me the sweetest notes.
He makes me feel so special and loved.
I’d like to show him how I feel in person
And give him a huge, warm hug.

For now we will gaze on each other’s photos
And dream about some future time,
When we can snuggle close together.
Oh, that will be heaven and sublime!

Lisbeth gives her heart

The photos are of me opening my Christmas gift and checking out my card from Charles as well as with the catnip, parrot toy he sent. I also got some other special gifts that I will share in a future post.

I was less than cooperative or interested when Mom helped me open my gift. I have not been in the best mood since Cooper Murphy joined the Kitties Blue Krew. I have been hissing and growling at everyone except Giulietta and Mauricio. I haven’t smacked anyone as I let them know to stay away with my scary sounds and flattened ears.

I hope my sweet love Charles won’t dump me when he hears about what a stinker I have been. I love and appreciate him so much. I am thankful to have him in my life.

I am pawticipating in both Sammy’s Thoroughly Poetic Thursday and Brian’s Thankful Thursday blog hop. The prompt letter for our poem this week is “H.”

Caturday Art

Those of you who follow Kitties Blue know that Astrid is our timid kitty. Most of that is derived from her fear of Misty (The Bully) May. To stay safe she has become a cave dweller. She hides herself away (unless she’s on my lap) in the shark bed, a cat tree cubby, the SleepyPod or any of the many enclosed cubbies, beds or boxes strategically placed throughout the house.

cave dweller - comfy cocoon #1Thanks to her thoughtful husband Sampy (Kitty Cat Chronicles), she now has another place to tuck herself away—a Jackson Galaxy Comfy Cocoon. Sampy sent her one for Christmas along with an ornament with his very own paw print.

She loves snuggling into her cocoon. It is very small, and I am fairly certain none of the others would fit in it. Luckily for her, they haven’t tried.

cave dweller - comfy cocoon #2

I have gotten several photos of her, including this one with her eyes almost completely closed.

I used a similar photo of her with her eyes open to create our entry into this week’s Caturday Art blog hop hosted by Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty. To generate our art, I started with a custom filter from Dreamscope, which I then manipulated using Ribbit, with a final edit in Picasa. It is not one of my most favorite creations, but I do find it interesting.

christmas cat - cave dweller postAstrid was not the only one to receive a gift. Sampy’s mom, Emily, who I think of as a daughter, sent me this gorgeous cat statue.

Astrid and I send Sampy and Emily thanks, love, kisses and hugs. We both think our gifts are purrfect!

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Cat4-001The first week of  January is almost behind us, and tomorrow will mark week #126 of our selfies blog hop. We’ll be having another guest host tomorrow. Kitties Blue will have their paws crossed that oodles of you will decide to come by to see who it is and to join the hop. If you are new to our blog or the hop, all anipals are welcome regardless of species. The best part of the hop, besides having the opportunity to make new friends, is that as soon as you snap and post your selfie you have the entire day to enjoy a nice Easy Sunday. And with the snow and cold temps, we’re fairly certain that’s what we and most of our friends will be doing.

So until tomorrow…toodles.

secret pawsOnce again we pawticipated in the Secret Paws gift exchange organized by Truffle and Brûlée and Mom Paula. We really appreciate all their hard work in setting this up each year.

Our gifts this year came all the way from the U.K. and the Katzenworld gang. The box was chock full of toys from their shop as well as a super cute “Oliver, Nubia & Snowball” mug for mom.

Most of the toys are filled with either catnip or valerian. We have not had valerian before so we will have a new experience playing with these toys. We let you know what we think in a future post.

Of course, not all of us showed up for the opening ceremony. But those who didn’t (Giulietta, Astrid and Lisbeth) will get plenty of opportunity to try out and play with all the goodies.

Secret Paws gifts

Mauricio really enjoyed the gingerbread man with valerian. And he’s already taken one of the big grey mousies upstair for some night-time play. Only the best toys get dragged from one floor to another!

Secret Paws gifts

Of course, Mom did not open all the toys for us. Even with seven Kitties Blue, it would be too much all at once. We know she’ll be doling them out over the next few months.

Sorry our photos are sort of blurry. It’s hard to sit still when kitty stimulants are involved!

All of us are sending great big kitty kisses and a huge T-H-A-N-K Y-O-U to Oliver, Nubia and their humans for the terrific gifts.

Sunday Selfies: Week #124

We are cheating a bit with our selfie today. It is Kitties Blue 2016 Christmas card. We sent out bunches through snail mail. We will begin e-mailing cards tomorrow to those of you for whom we did not have a mailing address. If you’d like to grab the graphic from here, please feel free to do so.

The center of the card is the badge Mom Barb (Nellie on the Edge) made for us when she made our Halloween pumpkin. When Mom saw the badge, she knew it had to be turned into our holiday card. Our sincere thanks go to Barb for making this permanent remembrance of our now angel, Fiona. The badge will move permanently to our sidebar after this post.

Cat4-001As you celebrate the holidays, do not feel rushed to add your selfie here. The blog hop always remains open through Thursday. You have plenty of time to sleep off your huge Christmas dinner, recover from your nip coma, recycle all the paper and boxes, and put away all your new undies and socks.

The link to add your selfie is below as is the code to add the hop to your blog if you’d like. We’d sure appreciate it if you could link back to The Cat on My Head and or/display our badge.

Wishing everyone a Meowy Christmas and a Happy Mew Year!

Best wishes, Mom Janet and Dad Tom

Caturday Art

Today’s Caturday Art was created from my very favorite Christmas photo of Fiona. She was sitting on my lap while I opened my gifts. She took an interest in this painted glass ornament of a bear…a gift from my friend, E.T.

twinkling Christmas angel

I wanted to take myself out of the photograph, but my disembodied, green-fingernailed hands looked creepy. I think I have moved myself out of the main focus on my precious angel. I used PicMonkey for all the filters and added the neon animation using LunaPic.

I think the photo now looks as if it is made up of twinkling, colored Christmas lights. What do you think?

caturdayartbannerThis is our entry in Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s Caturday Art blog hop. To submit an entry of your own and/or view the other cool works of art, click on Athena’s badge.

I do want to share the original photo so you can see Angel Fiona as she actually was. I think the expression on her face is priceless.

Here is another of our annual holiday traditions, reprinted for anyone who joined us for the first time in 2016.

A Cat’s Letter to Santa Claws

Oh dearest Santa, I promise I’ve been good.
Always used my litter box and eaten all my food.
That broken lamp was a minor transgression.
I don’t think it required that time-out session.
And it wasn’t I who shred the arm of that chair.
Besides, isn’t that why they come with a pair.
The hairball on the human’s pillow didn’t come from me.
I don’t have floofy furs as you can plainly see.
And all that litter spread through the house hither to yon…
It sprang right out of the box long after I had gone.
And you know that sandwich the human left on the table…
I swear it was stolen by a stray mouse named Mabel.
And the Christmas tree that suddenly toppled over…
Was not pushed by me but a marauding gopher.
I have no idea how these critters invade my space.
I never leave the cat door open or out of place.
Oh. dearest Santa, I’ve truly never ever been naughty.
So please bring me some toys from Jackson Galaxy.
And a big bag of nip to last a whole year…
Please, oh please, oh please Santa dear.
And some nommy treats would be totally pawsome.
I’d eat every one and not leave a crumb.
For I, the cat, have been as good as a cat can be.
So please don’t pass me by this Christmas Eve.
If you’ll stop by my house once again this year,
I promise to leave cookies and a bit of good cheer beer.
And as to next year, I raise my right paw
And promise to be a good cat, oh dear Santa Claws.
Yours truly, The Cat

Sunday Selfies

Cat4-001Tomorrow being Christmas Day, we will reveal our 2016 holiday card for anyone who has not received one in the mail. The card, created from a graphic Nellie‘s mom, Barb, made for us, also will be our Sunday Selfie. We know tomorrow is a super busy day with gifts, church, food and family. If you cannot join us then, that’s not a problem. The hop always remains open through Thursday.
However you plan to celebrate Christmas Eve or the first night of Hanukkah, stay safe!

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #33

We are joining this week’s mostly Christmas-themed Friendly Fill-Ins hosted by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). Yet again, Kitties Blue asked me to complete all four fill-ins. I’m getting a funny feeling that the lazy bums have no intention of ever completing the fill-ins again unless they are showered with treats. My completions are in teal italics.

To join the Fill-Ins blog hop, click on “McGuffy’s Reader” in the above paragraph.

1. I still need to wrap and mail several gifts before Christmas.

2. My favorite episode of Seinfeld is episode 138, “The Little Kicks,” from 1996.

3. What I really would like for Christmas is for every homeless animal to have a forever and loving home.

4.  My favourite part of Christmastime is sitting quietly in the living room, with the lights dimmed, looking at the Christmas tree and finding and giving the perfect gift to each person. As we do not have a tree this year, here is a photo of last year’s tree.

2015 Christmas tree

We are not planning on taking anytime off from the blog for Christmas, so we will be here tomorrow for Caturday Art and will have a special Sunday Selfies blog host for Christmas Day.

2016-secret-paws-badge_170Secret Paws 2016

If you are pawticipating in this year’s Secret Paws gift exchange, and you have not as yet received your package…it’s probably from us.

Kitties should be able to rely on their human (who didn’t do any decorating or baking this year) to get the Secret Paws gifts wrapped and sent in a timely manner. But NO! Our petretary totally fell down on the job.

It really is inexcusable. It’s not as if we can do the wrapping on our own. The tape always gets stuck to our furs, and we easily get distracted playing with bows, ribbons and empty paper tubes.

Of course, we cannot share with you where the presents are headed, but the package was finally mailed yesterday. Here’s a look at what we sent.

Santa Paws gifts

Did you honestly think we were going to show you the actual items? No way! You’ll have to wait until our recipient posts.

We got the petretary to wrap everything in our special Kitties Blue wrapping paper. That alone makes the purrfect gift. Don’t you think?

Our Secret Paws package arrived a few days ago, but Mom says we cannot share who sent it, and we have not been allowed to open even one thing. She never lets us have anything before Christmas. We don’t get it. Our dad has already received a couple of his gifts. We think the double standard for humans and cats is totally unfair and stinks! Are your humans as mean as ours?

The petretary finally finished our snail mail cards and Mau’s cards for his Cat Scout friends. All of those were mailed yesterday as well. E-mail cards have not been sent. They will be sent on Christmas Eve.

The most inexcusable of all the petretray’s laxities, however, is that none of the gifts for Allie, Charles or Sampson have been wrapped or mailed. We cannot believe we have to depend on her to accomplish these simple tasks. Pffft!

This is Part One of our Secret Paw’s post. Part Two will occur after we are allowed to open our gifts.
