MAURICIO’S BOO-BOOS

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #37

Mauricio has some news to share, so he is doing the Friendly Fill-Ins today. His completions are in teal italics.

1. Cooper Murphy’s energy and enthusiasm make me feel old.

2. My beautiful wife Allie makes me feel young. We always have so much fun together, like we did at the Cat Scouts Sock Hop dance contest.

MAdancing-001

3. I have two infected boo-boos on my back.

So here’s my news: I had to visit Dr. Neel on Tuesday. Mom was petting me on Monday evening when she felt a lump on my back. She panicked and thought it was a tumor, but then she discovered an open, infected-looking wound. I wouldn’t stop licking it, so Mom thought she should apply a bandage until I could see Dr. Neel.

mauricio's boo-boos

Mom’s bandaging technique leaves a lot to be desired if you ask me. She claims this was such a mess due to my continued wiggling. Excuses…excuses! She sure is good at those.

mauricio's boo-boos

When Dr. Neel started looking through my furs, she found a second wound. This is how I look now. Sheesh! Look at all those missing furs. Dr. Neel says it appears as if I was bit by another cat. The holes would be from an upper and lower fang.

We do have neighborhood cats who occasionally invade our yard. Misty May and I always have to let them know they are not welcome. Dr. Neel thinks one of those hooligan cats did not appreciate my urging it to leave and attacked me from behind.

Dr. Neel opened my wounds a bit more to get out as much infection as possible and gave me an antibiotic shot. And now Mom and Dad have to put warm compresses on the wounds twice a day.

All three of us are super happy that I do not have to wear a stupid cone.

4.  Going to the vet is no fun, but I was the purrfect patient. At home I am chatty Mau, but I only made two peeps when we first left the house. I sucked it up like a good Cat Scout and didn’t complain at all.  I saved that for after I got home!

FriendlyFillIns

The Friendly Fill-Ins are hosted by Ellen (15AndMeowing) and Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). Ellen selected the first two statements and Annie the second two. This is a blog hop, and you can enter by visiting Annie’s blog.

NEVER DULL, DREARY OR DEMURE

Thoroughly Poetic and Thankful Thursday

 Dedicated & Devoted to You

Some think cats are delicate creatures—
Meant to be decorative, viewed from afar.
They believe we’re demure and independent,
Unable to delight in human companionship.
But we know better. Cats can be demonstrative,
Snuggling in a lap to nap, knead and purr.
And cats can be strong and mighty warriors,
Protecting and defending our humans
From intruders, beasties and vermin.
We are complex, clever and devoted.
We’ll keep you guessing and on your toes,
As you cater to our every want and whim.
Your life will never be dreary or dull.
Dedicate your life to a cat…we’re worth it!

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

screen-shot-2016-08-31-at-8-45-29-pmDid you guess the prompt letter for this week’s Thoroughly Poetic Thursday poem? That’s right…it’s “D,” and we think we nailed it! Our friend, Angel Sammy, is the cat behind this weekly event, so please stop by (click on his badge) and check out his poem. You’ll find other poems there in the comments or links to blogs featuring poetry.

This is also our entry in the Thankful Thursday bog hop hosted by Brian. We are thankful for our big and strong Cat Scout brofur, Mau, who protects and defends all of us. But please don’t tell him. His head is already big enough! To join the Thankful Thursday blog hop, click on Brian’s badge.

SAYING GOOD-BYE IS NEVER EASY

We are taking today to remember Sammy (onespoiledcat). He was a dear friend to all of us in the blogging world. He educated us on world geography with his Tuesday Teaser, gave us the joy of laughter with his Saturday King of Baconia posts, and most recently got us testing our creativity with Thoroughly Poetic Thursday.

Knowing Sammy as we do, we are certain he will continue to orchestrate these events from the Bridge. With the King of Baconia’s huge purrsonality, you know he will not just slip away to frolic with Easy and all his other pals.

But Sammy was not just a friend to Kitties Blue—he was Mau’s best pal. They became Cat Scouts together, established the Worldwide Wildcats Troop with a couple of other good Scout buddies, and Mau was Assistant Troop Leader to Sammy who led and took care of his troop as only Sammy could.

Sammy was the epitome of a Cat Scout, becoming the first ever Cat Scout of the Year along with Cat Scout Sushi. He achieved every rank in Cat Scouts, including the very highest rank of Sabertooth Tiger. And he was one of the first group of Scouts to achieve the Order of the Arrowhead. He also became Chancellor of Cat Scout University. Sammy was not one to rest on his large and adorable polydactyl paws.

Sammy was wise and kind, caring and compassionate, funny and mischievous. We loved his many antics and costumes. And we loved him.

Caturday Art

We have created today’s art in honor and memory of Sammy. Mauricio has turned himself orange to match his pal.  And his furs, unintentionally, are looking a lot like bacon. Please feel free to laugh. We know Sammy is.

The amazing Ann of Zoolatry made this gorgeous badge for Sammy.

If you are a Cat Scout but do not visit there often, Mau wants you to know that a Memorial Service for Sammy will be held at Cat Scouts on Monday. The time and exact locale have to been determined but a notice will be left at Scouts and one here as soon as they are determined.

Cat4-001Sunday Selfies

Tomorrow will be an extra special Sunday Selfies post, and we urge you not to miss it. Even if you cannot join the hop, the pleasure of your presence is requested. Hope to see you then.

COME FLY WITH ME FOR SAMMY

Wow, we are so excited to be hosting our very best pal, Sammy (onespoiledcat), in our city. We are off to show him the Mill Mountain Star. It is the largest neon star in the world. As Sammy is in his hot air balloon, we must visit during the day time, so it won’t be lit up. But if you ask us, it is pretty darn impressive anyway.

Come Fly With Me

We thought we might need a special permit to put up our welcome sign, but when the mayor heard who was coming, he said we didn’t need one. You see, Sammy, the King of Baconia, is known throughout the world, even in our little city.

We featured our famous star on the blog once before when our honorary brofur Bailey‘s friend’s, Sharkie and Blue, traveled all the way from Rome (via Florida) to visit us for Christmas in 2014. To read more about the star, click here.

Sammy will also get a great view of the entire Roanoke Valley from the Star. A photo of the valley taken by Dad Tom actually stumped everyone on Sammy’s Tuesday Teaser just a few weeks back.

We know Sammy has many places to visit today and won’t be able to spend time visiting with us, but Cat Scout Master Baker Mauricio wanted to make certain his best pal had a little treat to sustain him on his journey. Mau baked some special maple cookies with chocolate frosting and topped with bacon, of course!

FriendlyFillInsToday is also week 30 of the Friendly Fill-Ins hosted by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). We are hoping they will forgive us, but today we have selected to complete only #4, as we want our post to totally focus on Sammy.

4. One of the best gifts we ever received was the friendship of Sammy and his mom, Pam. We cheated a wee bit and changed the “I” to “we.”

Come Fly With Me for Sammy was planned by Madi and Easy (before he went to the bridge), and it is being held today to honor Easy as well as to celebrate Sammy. This is also a blog hop. To join the hop or follow along with Sammy on his adventure, visit Dory’s Backyard and click on the Hoppity Hops tab in the menu bar.

“Hey, Sammy, can you see us waving at you from the base of the Star?”

I AM NOT A TURKEY!

Sunday Selfies: Week #119

I was incredulous when I discovered that our mom called me both a turkey and a hog yesterday. Then she had the audacity (yeah, I know some big words), to ask me to do the selfie today.

Being a Cat Scout of integrity and sworn to being helpful, I obliged her with several photos. And then what did she do? She selected one that looks just like a mug shot. If you think I am exaggerating, check it out for yourself.

turkey photos

The second photo she selected isn’t much better! It distinctly shows my displeasure with that first photo. There’s a super blurry one that she says looks as if I am giving her a paw gesture like the one humans use when they are really infuriated with another person. Again, I must reiterate that I am a Cat Scout and would NEVER do such a thing. I was merely moving my paw into position to wash it. I swear!

I did dress as a turkey for a party at Cat Scouts, and as I think I’m much cuter in that photo, I told mom she had to share it with you as well.

mau turkey

I think the turkey drumstick was a nice addition, don’t you?

Cat4-001This is our Sunday Selfie Blog Hop. As it is the last hop prior to Thanksgiving, feel free to share a Thanksgiving-themed photo…or not!

Last week we had a couple more purrticipants than the previous week, but our numbers have still plummeted. We hope, if you were once one of our selfie friends and have stopped submitting, you will return. We miss you, and we are sure those who follow the hop do as well. And invite all your anipal friends to join us.

The link to add your selfie is below as is the code to add the hop to your blog if you’d like. If it isn’t too inconvenient, will you please add our badge to your post and/or link back to The Cat on My Head?

Thanksgiving Day Surprise

We know lots of you will be busy this week traveling or preparing for the holiday, but please take a few minutes to drop by on Thanksgiving. We will have a huge surprise that day. And, it won’t be any of us acting like a turkey!

Purrs and paw-pats, Mauricio with lots of love and smooches to my fabulous wife Allie

SOMETIMES LIFE IS UNFAIR

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Screen Shot 2016-08-31 at 8.45.29 PMToday we’re going to give you two poems. The first is for Sammy’s (onespoiledcat) Thoroughly Poetic Thursday. The second was written Tuesday in the comments on Sammy’s Tuesday Teaser post. You may have seen it already on Sammy’s blog as he shared it yesterday. If you missed it, it’s at the end after our “U” prompt poem.

The inspiration for this week’s poem are the photos below.

Mau cries unfair.

MAU CRIES, “UNFAIR”

If you ask our mom, she’ll claim,
“I’m really not to blame:
I never dress the cats,
Not even in funny little hats.”
But we can tell you she’s lying
Which is why Mauricio is crying,
“UNFAIR, you mean old woman.
Can’t you see I’m not a human?
Clothes I should not be wearing
Even for this Halloween scaring.”
The woman says, “Other Cat Scouts do it,”
So you should want to pursue it
This year Mau dressed as Jimmy Buffett,
And you can trust he did not love it.
He squirmed and growled and gyrated,
While Mom he thoroughly berated,
Until a couple of photos were snapped,
And he could escape from her lap.
Wearing only his tuxie suit of furs,
Mau will make certain she gets “hers.”
Mom better keep an eye on her shoes,
Or When Mau horks in them, she’ll be singing the blues.

© Kitties Blue 11/02/2016

You can’t see it in the photo, but Mom is wearing her silly cat ears, a cat t-shirt and a big grin. Mau hopes that spider weaving his web eats that smile right off her face.

Though much embarrassed by it, Mau invites you to witness our mom’s lying ways by clicking here.

So this next poem, we wrote in response to another tough Tuesday Teaser at Sammy’s. We’ve been first to comment a couple of times, been able to stump everyone when we were the guest Teaser, and even be the only ones to identify the location on a couple of occasions. But mostly we are the recipients of the infamous Greenies given to those who don’t have a clue. That was the case once again on Tuesday, prompting this poem.

TEASER LAMENT

As the correct answer is above,
We are just going to shove,
Off and do some chores,
As we can’t be tortured any more!
We know Sam’s not a meanie;
Though, Kitties Blue get another Greenie.
But we only come for Suzie’s cheers
To see whose name she smears!
Today she was mostly a good kitty,
While still being funny and rather witty.
So we’ll return again next week
To give the new Teaser a peek.
We have won a couple of times,
But if we don’t, we can still rhyme.
We’re getting ready for our Thursday verse.
Where it doesn’t matter who is FIRST!
With a U for a prompt it won’t be easy,
So we better go now and get busy.
See you tomorrow for the big reveal
We know the winner is going to squeal!

A TOTALLY TERRIFIC TABBY

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

For Sammy — A Totally Terrific Tabby

Totally Terrific TabbyWe have a friend who is a real Teaser,
As well as a Tabby cat and Cat Scout Troop Leader.
We think you know him…his name is Sam,
And he has a lovely mom named Pam.

Each Tuesday he shares a photo of an unknown location
Usually taken on someone’s exotic vacation.
He asks us to guess the city, state and country,
Which often makes our mom totally grumpy.

Sam’s friend SuzieQ cheers and berates us equally
While we rack our brains and search secretly
To discover where the photo was taken
And win some of Sammy’s precious stash of bacon.

Totally Terrific TabbyCat Scout Sammy is also the King of Bacon
But bacony gifts to us he isn’t makin’
He only gives out colorful badges for showing
That we are either clueless or all-knowing.

If you’re a fan of Thoroughly Poetic Thursday,
You’ll find Sammy waiting in his jaunty green beret,
For you to write a poem and share with followers of his blog,
Whether you’re a kitty, bunny, guinea pig or dog.

This week’s poetry prompt letter was a T.
That’s why we wrote about our friend, Sammy,
The famous Teaser Tabby guy, Cat Scout Troup Leader
And accomplished poetry writer and reader.

If you haven’t been writing poems on Thursday, don’t be shy. Step up now and give it a try. Thank you Sammy for giving us this opportunity to tap into our creativity. Sorry, it seems as if we just can’t stop rhyming.

IS CANDY CORN A VEGGIE?

 Friendly Fill-Ins: Week 24

FriendlyFillInsWe are joining our friends and hosts, Ellen (15AndMeowing) and Annie (McGuffy’s Reader) for this week’s fun Halloween-themed fill-ins. This is a blog hop. If you’d like to link up, visit Annie’s blog. My completions are in teal italics.

1. One Halloween, I dressed as a cheerleader. I never was one, but Mauricio currently is one for Cat Scout University. He’s also Cheermaster for the Wolverine’s Patrol and has written many cheers. He’s accentuated his uniform just a bit for Halloween.

2. My favorite comedian is Jeff Dunham and his gang of misfits, especially Walter and Peanut.

3. My scariest Halloween was when one of the kitties ran out the front door when some trick-or-treaters arrived. I do not remember now which cat it was, but I was totally freaked out.

4. Candy Corn is my favourite Halloween treat.

We’ll be back tomorrow with Caturday Art and a press release from Jackson Galaxy on a very important topic for all cat caregivers and advocates.
