The Cat On My Head

ART TURNS AUDREY INTO A GINGER KITTY

Caturday Art

I certainly hope everyone is not tired of seeing the Kitties Blue snoozing, as that is what I have for you again today. My art is of a napping Audrey.

Napping torbie kitty has been turned ginger with an art effect from Painnt.

Audrey turned into a ginger kitty with the Color Seahorses effect from Painnt. I have used this effect previously in 2019. I try not repeat effects, but sometimes it happens. Of course, the frame is from the favpng app.

I do have a puzzle of napping Audrey as well as a bonus puzzle from an A.I. image I created using piZap.

Audrey will be popping over to Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s blog for her Caturday Art blog hop. If you would like to participate, click on Athena’s badge.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

As per usual, I have no clue who will be here as your host tomorrow.  I am expecting everyone will be playing hide ‘n seek with me today in an attempt to keep from being selected for the selfie. I really hope you show up to see which of the kitties is here and to share your selfie with us.

Until then we wish you a happy Caturday filled with treats and cuddles.

FELINE FRIDAY WITH KIZMET & FILL-INS

Feline Friday

I can never do laundry without the interference of Kizmet. Of course, she thinks she’s helping! At least she no longer gets in the dryer. If you didn’t know about her penchant for lolling about in clean, warm clothes, you can check her out in the post, “Warm, Snuggly Kitten & Poetry,” from May 27, 2021.

Kizmet will be participating in the Feline Friday blog hop at messymimi’s meanderings. If you’d like to participate in the hop, click on the badge below.

Friendly Fill-Ins

The Friendly Fill-Ins blog hop is hosted each Friday by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Lorianne (Four-Legged Furballs). They publish the fill-in sentences on their blogs each Thursday. To join the hop, click on the badge at the left.

I completed the fill-ins this week without any help from Kitties Blue. My completions are in teal italics, and any explanatory information is in parentheses.

1. On Super Bowl Sunday, I will maybe look at the commercials, but I will keep busy with something else while Dad Tom watches.

2. The toy I couldn’t live without as a child was crayons. (I don’t think they are really toys.)

3. My English and grammar skills are much better than my math skills.

4. I compare prices when choosing anything I need to purchase.

Thanks for visiting us today. We’ll be back tomorrow with some Caturday Art.

SUNPUDDLE SNOOZERS & THE PROBLEM WITH PANCAKES

Thankful Thursday

Each Thursday, Kitties Blue and I share the things for which we are thankful. Here’s our list for this week.

Kitties Blue are thankful for sunpuddles, especially C.J.,  Sawyer and Kizmet. Sunpuddles are always a great spot for an afternoon snooze.

Three cats snoozing in a sunpuddle.

Dad Tom and I are thankful Sawyer’s phenobarbital came in the mail. We were out, and he hadn’t had any for a couple of days. He had a seizure on Saturday, so we were quite anxious for it to arrive.

The gang and I are thankful for those of you who visited and left a comment on our Looking Back post for this week. Yesterday evening, I actually added two more categories to our new awards for 2024: Best Biscuit Makers: (tie) Audrey & Cooper Murphy and Most Unique Biscuit Maker: Astrid. Astrid makes biscuits with all four paws usually while turning in a circle at the same time! (If you missed that post, here’s the link, “The Kitten’s Choice Awards.”)

Periwinkle & Stinky are thankful for those of you who joined their adventure on Tuesday and have completed the jigsaw puzzles created from their A.I.-generated art.

Kitties Blue and I are thankful for everyone who visits, comments on our posts and supports us!

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by Angel Brian. If you would like to participate, click on the hop badge below.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Thursday is poetry day as well. That’s when I write a poem based on an inspiration photo provided by Angel Sammy and Teddy from Two Spoiled Cats. Today’s photo is super funny. I wish I could say the same for my poem. What I am posting was my second attempt, so I knew it wasn’t going to get any better.

Little girl making pancakes with one landing on her dad's head.

I did take some poetic license and indicated this little girl was making pancakes; though, it appears she actually was making crepes. The photo obviously has been staged, but is still terrific!

The Problem with Pancakes

I may be a kid, but making pancakes is
my specialty. Mostly they are edible.
Occasionally, though, I make a mistake:
I’ve forgotten ingredients in the past
and left the lid off the blender, so batter flew
through the air, landing on clothes, face and hair.
The griddle might be too cold or too hot or
batter ends up on the stove top. My pancakes can
sometimes stick, burn or tear, or there is an
unfortunate mishap, like the time one landed
in my lap. But today was truly a first. When
I tried to flip my griddled goodie, I sneezed and
sent that flapjack high into the air. Dad now
wears a pancake as a hat, and I have an
hilarious photo to share for show and tell.

Click on the title to visit the post. The kitties and I hope you will leave us a comment there if you enjoy it.

Those of you who subscribe to our blog should have already received notification of the Looking Back post in your e-mail inbox.

A.I. & Puzzle Fun

If you missed yesterday’s The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky post, they had some fun creating A.I. images and then turning them into jigsaw puzzles. If you are a puzzle fan, click on the link to yesterday’s post at the bottom of this one.

Thanks for joining us today. We appreciate your support and comments.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CCXXII

Stinky is excited that Tuesday has finally arrived, and he will be seeing his girlfriend Periwinkle. He is planted next to the teleportation tunnel ready to catch Periwinkle when she comes tumbling out. He doesn’t have to wait long, as Periwinkle is right time to begin the day’s adventure. With the familiar whoosh she tumbles from the tunnel into Stinky’s waiting paws. They spend several minutes whisker kissing and paw hugging.

Bird Brain Cardinal*

Stinky is waiting for Periwinkle to ask what he has planned for this adventure. Instead she asks if she can see the bird-brained cardinal outside the bathroom window. Stinky giggles, takes Periwinkle’s paw and leads her to the bathroom where they find Kizmet is in her usual bird-watching spot and the cardinal pecking on the window. Periwinkle hops up with Kizmet to check out the birdie.

“Stinky, that is the silliest bird I have ever seen. Do you think he has a concussion and his brain is scrambled?” Periwinkle asks Stinky.

“Who knows what is going on with that silly bird. I think my mom or dad need to do some investigating on the internet.”

Finally, the inevitable question comes, “What have you planned for today, Stinky?”

“Well, we are staying at home again, but before I tell you what we are doing, I wanted to share some news with you. My mom is working on a landing page for us with links to all the adventures I have taken us on. She says it is lots of work, but she promises to get it done soon.”

Periwinkle claps her paws. “That is wonderfully good news, Stinky. I hope when it is finished, our readers will check out
some of the adventures they might have missed. So, now are you going to tell me what we are doing?”

Adventure in A.I.

“Yes, I am. I have been watching my mom make some really fun pictures with A.I., and I know your mom has made some as well. It looks like lots of fun, so I asked if we could try our paws at creating some. My mom said, ‘Yes!'” And any we make that we like, we can turn into jigsaw puzzles for our friends.”

“Stinky, I like your idea. It sounds like oodles of fun,” says Periwinkle.

“Oh, I am so happy you like my suggestion. Would you like to go first. We are going to use the A.I. generator in piZap, as that is the one my mom is familiar with using.”

“Okie dokie, I’d love to go first. What should I do?”

“You just need to tell my mom what you want, and she will type it into piZap’s dialog box. I’ll go get her.”

When Stinky’s mom arrives, Periwinkle tells her that she wants three cats in fancy dresses and tiaras having a tea party at a table with a dining room blurred in the background. Sawyer’s mom types in the directions, and she and the kitties wait to see what they’ll get. Very quickly, the picture appears.

Ladies at Tea

A.I. Image: three cats in fancy dresses and tiaras having a tea party

“Wow, Periwinkle, you are a pro at this. That came out fantastic,” gushes, Stinky. “Now it is my turn.” Stinky tells his mom that since she and his dad ride a tandem bicycle, he wants to make a picture with two cats riding one. He gives her additional details for the picture, and then the tabbies wait again to see the results.

Tandem Riding Kitties

A.I. Image: grey cat and black cat riding a red tandem bicycle.

“Stinky, that is so cute, but the kitties do look a bit funny. They don’t have any ears,” exclaims Periwinkle.

“Probably inside their helmets,” Stinky replies.

“My turn again,” claims Periwinkle. “I want something to represent me being from Florida.” She then tells Stinky’s mom what to type. Again, the three have very little time to wait, and they have their picture.

Cat with Flamingo Floatie

Grey long-haired cat wearing pink swim goggle and lounging in a pink flamingo float in a pool surrounded by palm trees.

“Oh, that is meowvolous,” Stinky tells Periwinkle. “It’s you lounging in a swimming pool. My turn again. Since my Dad is involved with volleyball, I want cats playing volleyball,” he tells his mom.

When the picture is done, they all have a good laugh!

Volley Cats

Large group of cats playing volleyball in a park before a large crowd.

Stinky asks his mom if he and Periwinkle can each make one more, and she agrees. Periwinkle thinks for quite a little while prior to deciding and describing what she wants.

Scouting Cats

Five cats wearing scout neckerchiefs on a hike in a forest.

When the picture appears, Stinky is tickled, but Periwinkle looks disappointed. Stinky asks her why.

“I asked for three orange tabby cats, one brown tabby cat and one black and white cat to represent Teddy, Cooper Murphy and Angel Sammy as well as Angel Mau and Angel Raz, but it didn’t get the colors right,” says Periwinkle through a pout.

“Periwinkle, it is still totally adorable, and the idea was purrfect,” Mom Janet exclaims and gives Periwinkle a hug. She then asks Stinky to describe the last picture he wants, which he does.

When Periwinkle and Mom Janet see the completed picture, they both have a good laugh.

Dog on Trial

A cat judge with a dog on trial.

“Stinky, you are so funny. That poor woofie doesn’t have a chance at a fair trial with a cat as the judge. Are we going to make our puzzles now?” asks Periwinkle.

“My mom will do it for us and add them to the post,” replies Stinky.

“It’s such a pretty day here, Stinky, can we go out on the catio and have a snack?” asks Periwinkle.

“Of course, let’s go!”

While Periwinkle and Stinky enjoy a snack on the catio and visit with Stinky’s fursibs, Mom Janet loads up their jigsaw puzzles.

Unfortunately, the time arrives when Periwinkle must return home. The two tabbies spend time by the teleportation tunnel whisker kissing, paw hugging and giggling about some of the pictures they created. Finally, with a blown kiss and a wave, Periwinkle enters the tunnel and is gone in a whoosh. Stinky heads to the bedroom for a nap and dreams of his beautiful girlfriend.

The End

Periwinkle & Stinky will be joining the Happy Tuesday blog hop at Comedy Plus. If you would like to participate click on the badge.

∗ If this is the first you are hearing about our crazy cardinal, check out yesterday’s post, “Kizmet & the Cardinal.”

KIZMET & THE CARDINAL

Sparks

When I discovered this quote from Eleanor Roosevelt, I knew it was purrfect for the blog, as our tag-line is “Cats are Predictably Unpredictable.” Kitties Blue definitely add a lot of “flavor” to our lives.

Grey cat sitting on a bathroom sick counter with a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt, "If life were predictable it would cease to be life, and be without flavor."

Sparks is the creation of Annie from McGuffy’s Reader. Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend. Annie stated when she began Sparks, “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world.”

Awww Mondays

In the past few days I have been finding Kizmet sitting on the bathroom counter staring at the window above her head, just as she is in the above photo.

The following photos reveal what has garnered Kizmet’s attention.

Two photos of a male cardinal sitting on a window sill staring in the window.

This cardinal has been incessantly pecking and flying at the window. He spent almost the entirety of Sunday doing this. I think he’s a bit of a bird brain, and I have no idea what he wants. Certainly he cannot be interested in coming in a house where eight cats reside.

Kizmet and her bird friend will be participating in the Awww Mondays blog hop hosted by Sandee at Comedy Plus. If you would like to do the same, click on the Awww badge.

The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky

Tomorrow is that special day each week when Periwinkle and Stinky set out on a new adventure. It is Stinky’s turn to make a plan. He’s confided in me that he’s been brainstorming but has not come up with anything yet. I am certain he will think of something fun before tomorrow. I know both the tabbies will be looking forward to seeing you here tomorrow. Please don’t let them down.

Thanks for joining us today.

BIG BIRD SNAPS A SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #494

Today we have a guest host.

Cooper's hawk selfie

This is a Cooper’s hawk, and no, it does not belong to our Cooper Murphy. That is its actual name. This hawk was named by Charles Bonaparte in 1828 after William Cooper, who collected the specimens that were used to describe the species. An adult Cooper’s hawk is from 14 to 21 inches long, with a wingspan of 27 to 36 inches.

This one was sitting on our back fence when Dad Tom snapped his photo. I am certain he was scoping out all the birds and small critters that inhabit our yard. I am happy all the Kitties Blue were safely ensconced in the catio and house. We often see hawks in our area.

I thought it was interesting that s/he was standing on just one leg. Maybe he thought that’s how one joins our blog hop. MOL! Speaking of hopping…

It’s Now Your Turn

That’s right, we are expecting you to not only visit us but also to post a selfie and link to our hop. You have through Thursday to do just that, so please don’t let Kitties Blue down. Though none of them are here today, they will be looking for your selfie.

Thanks for visiting us today. Have a meowvolous and easy Sunday.

AUDREY’S PRETTY IN PURPLE

Caturday Art

pretty in purple: A torbie cat in a tent and rendered as art in purple and green with a purple frame of ribbons and flowers.

Audrey is here today in an artified version of her photo from our January 25 Thankful Thursday post, “Thankfuls & Bummer of a Summer.”

To create today’s art, I used the Rainbow Spires effect from Painnt. I tinkered with several of the settings and so am unable to explain how I achieved the final look. The frame is, as usual, from the favpng app.

Here is the link to Audrey’s jigsaw puzzle.

Audrey will be popping over to Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s blog for her Caturday Art blog hop. If you would like to participate, click on Athena’s badge.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

All eight of the Kitties Blue are jumping with joy. They just found out we will have a guest host for Sunday Selfies tomorrow. I am not going to give any hits as to who this will be, so I am expecting everyone to show up to find out. Of course, the kitties and I hope you will share a selfie and link up to the blog hop as well.

Until then we wish you a happy Caturday filled with treats and cuddles.

HOW TO ENTERTAIN YOUR CATS WITH YOUTUBE

Feline Friday

Audrey and Kizmet are easily entertained by television, especially programs with lots of movement.

entertain cats YouTube: Two cats watching television, women's volleyball in one photo and TV for Cats with a bird on the screen in photo #2.

Here the girls are watching YouTube TV: A LIVE Pro Volleyball Federation match and Cat TV for Cats to Watch, which is LIVE 24/7.

The girls will be participating in the Feline Friday blog hop at messymimi’s meanderings. If you’d like to participate in the hop, click on the badge below.

The Friendly Fill-Ins blog hop is hosted each Friday by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Lorianne (Four-Legged Furballs). They publish the fill-in sentences on their blogs each Thursday. To join the hop, click on the badge at the left.

I am grateful the Kitty Blue who often serves as my helper, Sawyer, did so again this week. Both Sawyer and I used teal italics for filling in. Any explanatory information is in parentheses.

1. Some people make their own cat food, but I prefer store bought.

2. February is a good month to stay inside and read while curled up with a cat or two or three or four…

3.  Sawyer: Learning I am in good health despite my seizure disorder was the best part of this week.

4. As a child I grew up mostly with dogs, but as an adult I (and Dad Tom) have had cats since our two small dogs passed away in the early 80s. (Before I turned six years old, we had 13 cats, but my parents found homes for all but one before we moved to a new house.)

Thanks so much for visiting with us today. We hope to see you again tomorrow when we share some Caturday Art.

THE FIXER UPPER & THANKFULS

Thankful Thursday

Each Thursday, Kitties Blue and I share some things for which we are thankful. I mention the first one quite often in the winter.

Audrey, Kizmet and Cooper Murphy are thankful for a heated floor on a cold morning.

Three cats, a grey, torbie and ginger tabby lying on rugs.

Stinky is thankful I have started to construct a landing page of his and Periwinkle’s adventures, which will contain links for all the adventures they have shared here on The Cat on My Head.

I am thankful I discovered the Stevie Nicks concert from 2017 on Tubi. She’s always been one of my favorite artists. Dad Tom and I were fortunate to see her live in concert with Fleetwood Mac some years ago.

I also am thankful that at least some of those who subscribe to our blog are getting e-mail notifications of our posts.

Kitties Blue and I are thankful for everyone who follows, comments and supports us.

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by Angel Brian. To join the hop, click on the Thankful badge.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Thursday is also poetry day. Teddy and Angel Sammy from Two Spoiled Cats provided another super fun, inspiration photo for this week’s poetry challenge.

fixer upper thankfuls - Photo of a shack with a front porch atop a rock in a river.

I kept adding to this poem in an attempt to bring it to a conclusion and am only partially satisfied with how I ended it. I also am not thrilled with all the ands and buts I included.

Advertisement: Private Isle with Fixer Upper

I wanted a place I could call my own,
as I was extremely tired of living at home.
I saw an ad for my own private isle
and knew that was just my style.
It said the place was a fixer upper,
but I had conquered projects much tougher.
I gathered together my hard-earned dough
to make an offer, as the price was so low.
Mind you, this was sight-unseen,
but I was certain it would fulfill my dream.
I finally saw my new retreat and was shocked:
My isle turned out to be only a rock!
The promised covered porch with a view
was real but seemed too good to be true,
when I discovered I had no bath or kitchen
and no space on my rock for an addition.
This itty bitty shack may not be perfect,
and it may seem as if I’ve been tricked,
as it’s more of a tear down than a fixer upper,
but I assure you I am no sucker!
I can make the best of any situation
and will merely use this for the occasional vacation.
My parents will be happy to have me home.
They never wanted me to go out on my own.
