Thoroughly Poetic Thursday
Mau and Allie (Friends Furever) are here today to welcome you to our poetry “trip.” I’ve altered the inspiration photo just a tad to enhance the theme of our poem. Hope you enjoy it.
Magical Memories
This is a “Magic Bus”
But not the one of
Which The Who sang.
Our bus is a time machine
More Like Steppenwolf’s
“Magic Carpet Ride” or The
Beatles’ “Magical Mystery Tour.”
It’ll transport you to the ‘60s.
Inside you’ll find hippies
And flower children and
Concerts of grand proportion.
The Mamas and Papas are
Singing “California Dreamin’,”
And The Beach Boys are rocking
Out “California Girls” while
Scott McKenzie shares his
“San Francisco” vibe. John
Sebastian and the The Lovin’
Spoonful ask “Do You Believe
in Magic?” It’s all right
Here if you’d like a “trip”
Down memory lane. We’ll stop
At The Fillmore Auditorium,
And then magically transport
To the Monterey Pop Festival,
And on to the infamous Woodstock.
Those were the good old days.
Come along and enjoy them with us.

This really is a meander down memory lane for me. Dad Tom and I were both in high school and college in the 60s in California. We were both lucky enough to see most of the biggest names in Rock ‘n Roll at the time. And Dad Tom even had a VW bus before I met him. It was not, however, “magical” like this one.
Thoroughly Poetic Thursday was created by our friend, angel Sammy (Two Spoiled Cats), before he went to the Bridge. He continues to send a poem from the Bridge each Thursday, and we join in the fun when we can. To participate click on his badge. You can write your poem into a Comment or leave a link to your post. Don’t forget to read Sammy’s poem while you are there. It is always fabulous!
Thankful Thursday
Every Thursday we also join the Thankful Thursday blog hop, hosted by Brian. We are thankful we’ve had some rain and that we are having some lower temperatures. Dad Tom and I are super grateful that a building permit has been obtained for our addition. Now we are hoping for excavation and construction to be started soon. Finally, though Sawyer has been spitting out his pills so he can get some extra stinky goodness at each meal), he is doing better physically. He’s only had one itty bitty incident this past week.
To participate in the hop, post for what you are thankful and then click on Brian’s badge.
Mau and Allie, you look so groovy! You know what else is groovy? Your fantastic poem. I just love how you so cleverly wove the song titles into the lines. Purrs to all of you!
guyz…we iz CRACKIN UP !!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
N de poemz grate two….. waz mom N dad ever in haight ashbury ?? ♥♥
Looking purr-fect for that great magic bus! We spy those Oregon license plates and hope that bus is still getting around somewhere up here! We LOVE this post!
That ‘fro is a riot.
That was so much fun to read! It reminded me of the stories my aunts and uncles who grew up in the 60s used to share with me. :_
Great poem. I would love a ride in that van back to July 1969 to see myself as a baby because my mom has no photos until I was a few months old. XO
You and Dad Tom lived during some interesting times in California. We love the Hippy Mobile!
Okay, I do love the photo and really enjoyed the “trip” down memory lane. I’m still chuckling at that photo! We’ve got some pill spitters over here, too. I know they’re just trying to get extra treats! LOL!
A new addition?!? How cool is that? Is it going to be catified?
C’mon, Sawyer, be a good boy and take your meds!
The Hubby was a bonafide hippie; he even spent a whole summer in barefeet. He calls me a hippie-wannabe, since I’m a few years younger. Hmmm….
OMC this made Mom spit her diet coke out her nose!! That photo is adorable!!
Mom says she remembers that being a super time and she remembers all of that music!
The Florida Furkids with bazillion smoochies and tons of love to her GROOVY husband from Allie.
Always love your poems. Today is no exception.
I was in high school in the 60s. It was a very fun time. Well except for the war. There were many magical VW vans back then.
I’m glad you had some rain and it’s cooler.
Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. Scritches to all the kitties. ♥
That was fun to read, thank you! Love the photo and congrats on the work permit. Hope it goes fast for you! Sneaky Sawyer, be a good boy and take your pills. ☺
Glad Sawyer’s doing better. Yes, the housekeeper is definitely a former flower child. Love the bus. It was a colorful time, so I’ve heard. Kinda sorry I missed it. Love your poem which inspired this for mew’all: The Sixties were great, but I know it was fate that I arrived too late, now get outta my plate! (the best I could do on the spot) – Tom x
That was a fun poem, the Dad almost remembers those days! Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
What a GREAT poem! So many memories in the lines – music, fun, people, places – my Mom was definitely a flower child in the 60s and 70s and part of her heart will ALWAYS be rooted in those days. She’s happy that she finally “grew up” but there were so many magic moments then and of course I make sure she has those moments NOW because I’m part of her life! Tee Hee We love how “far out” Mau and Allie look in the photo…..precious! Thanks for being part of our Thursday fun every week…….you’re the BEST!
Love, Teddy
My human is a little envious of people who were young adults in the 1960s because it seems like such an exciting time! But then, she loved the 1980s too, which is more her era.
Hi there! I let petcretary get so far behind in commenting on all our furends’s blogs, we decided just to read through the missed posts and comment in the newest one.
So here we are:)
I did enjoy reading all the posts since I was last here, some of them made me giggle and some were sweet and others were purrfectly wonderfur!
My sister hunkers after a VW Camperbus like that one, though she wouldn’t want a magical one, I don’t think…MOL!
That is a great poem!
