Thoroughly Poetic Thursday
Thursday is always a favorite day of the week for us. It’s the day we get to join up with our friends, Angel Sammy and Teddy, (Two Spoiled Cats) and write a poem.
The inspiration photo they provided for this week brought back lots of memories from my childhood. Though the children in this photo look as if they are from my parents’ generation, the ice cream truck was no less a part of my young life. I suspect most of you have similar memories to mine, so I hope you enjoy my poem.
Ice Cream Dreams
Ice cream is the ultimate treat.
It’s super yummy and good to eat.
The ice cream truck’s melodic tune
Makes me want to grab a spoon
And head right to my freezer,
As if I have a raging fever.
But I’m not looking for an ice pack,
I just want an ice cream snack.
As a kid I liked Fudgsicles best.
If offered one, I always said, “yes.”
Now I like a variety of flavors
And always take time to savor.
Peppermint, Oreo, butter pecan,
I could eat each by the gallon.
Pumpkin is available this time of year.
Eating it I could make my career.
But ice cream no longer agrees we me,
So now I only can eat it sparingly.
But my memories from a distant time
Come flooding back when I hear that chime
Of the ice cream truck in the neighborhood,
When those Fudgcicles tasted oh so good!

I thought it would be fun to include a collage of a family member who also enjoyed ice cream. Unless your new to the blog, you saw this photo in the summer of 2017.
Lily Olivia was cleaning every last drop of ice cream from the empty carton. I miss my angel everyday, so I am happy to be able to share her with you again.
If you’d like to write a poem and share it, click on Sammy’s poetry badge. You can leave your entire poem or the link to your post in a comment. Even if you don’t want to participate, stopping by Two Spoiled Cats to read Sammy’s poem is always a must. He transmits it each week from the Rainbow Bridge, and his poems are always a winners.
Thankful Thursday
We also like Thursday as we are able to let you know for what we are thankful.
Mau and Cooper Murphy are happy and grateful that I am taking the time to act as their secretary this week as they participate in the 2018 Cat Scout Jamboree. Personally, I am pooped already, but I’d never let them down.
I am grateful that our blog has been recognized in the Top 25 Cat Blogs at CatMania.net. It’s always a good feeling to know others find our blog enjoyable and worth visiting and reading. And it helps keep me motivated on the days when I don’t feel like writing.
Unfortunately Sawyer’s days and weeks of being seizure free came to an end Tuesday night with two, back-to-back, focal seizures. Nevertheless, Dad Tom and I remain thankful that he is no longer having the grand mal seizures, and that he had a string of several weeks with no seizures.
We are particularly thankful to have all our wonderful blog friends and supporters. With the Cat Scout Jamboree, Kitties Blue haven’t been able to do much visiting this week, but they’ll get back to a regular schedule very soon.
Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by our friend, Brian. To join in, post for what you are grateful and then click on Brian’s badge to go to his post and join the hop.
We’ll see you tomorrow for Friendly Fill-Ins and Feline Friday.
I love ice cream too, and Pipo loves to lick a dish if given the chance. Dalton entered our furmily when ice cream no longer enters the den…its now only an outside the den very special treat for the peeps…due to our dietary restrictions…else we wuod have it each and evfurry day, MOL!
Sorry that Sawyer had more seizures. POTP and pawyers and purrs for him to stay seizure free for another long while.

I will be praying for Sawyer. That was a sweet flashback of Lily Olivia. Excellent poem too. XO
I’m not an ice cream eater. Nicky was. He liked vanilla with ham chunks. Then he’d frew them up. HAH!
Lily Olivia sure was enjoying that ice cream! We don’t get ice cream very often…but our favorite flavor is vanilla.
Purrayers & POTP to Sawyer.
Sweet memories of Lily Olivia.
It looks like your ice cream dreams came true, Lily Olivia ! We send purrs for Sawyer and hope he feels better soon. Purrs
Your poem is so lovely and takes me way back to the ice cream man in our neighbourhood while growing up in Ottawa. I loved seeing Lily O chowing down on ice cream. She is still our Crotchety Cougar.
Sawyer’s focal seizure must confuse him to no end and there really is nothing you can do about it. The focal seizure seems very much like an Abscence Mal or what they used to call A Petit Mal. I had those all through my teen years and a couple of pre=teen years. Very befuddling. At least the Tonic Clonic ( grand mal seizures) are no longer happening. That’s something to be thankful for, fur sure.
Jean
Whoa!!!!!
You have a tube of ice cream all to yourself?????
We are on the way, wait for us!
Love the poem. We lived out in the country so no ice cream trucks for us. Mom and Dad did buy the huge containers of ice cream and my sister and I would grab spoons and take a huge bite full. I’m sure our parents knew, but they never let on.
Congratulations on being in the top 25 cat blogs. That rocks.
So sorry that Sawyer had two seizures. I was so hoping that was a thing of the past. Prayers.
Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. Scritches to all the kitties. ♥
Facebook likes to remind us of stuff that happened last year or so, and therefore our Chucky shows up out of the blue. We miss him terribly too, but are happy to have adopted Da Boyz in his honor! But they never replace each other; just add to our love. Sending purrs to Sawyer.
Sawyer, I am so sorry sweet boy. I hope those can get under control. Thank goodness you have a loving mom and dad to help you and see that you have the best of care. My mom knows how your mom feels though with her admiral, the illness was different.
We sure enjoyed your poems and those sweet photos. We’re so sorry that Sawyer still has that going on and send our purrs and prayers. Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
We are sad that Sawyer had more seizures but thankful they weren’t the very BAD ones….maybe the fact he’s having so FEW seizures means he’s a whole lot better on his meds. We keep him in our prayers! Mom and I love your ice cream poem – my Mom has wonderful memories of those trucks in her neighborhood too…..such fun as a kid looking forward to the bell and the guy in the white uniform! Concats on the Catmania award too – that’s wonderful!
Hugs, Teddy (and Mom)
Purrs to Sawyer – I hope he feels better!
And concats on the blog recognition.
