Sparks
My Spark for today exactly represents how I feel and respond to the sun. When days are dreary and cloudy, I feel down and droopy. The sun coming out will almost always bolster my spirits. After a summer filled with rain, I definitely hope to see more sun during autumn.
The background for today’s Spark is one of Dad Tom’s photographs. It is Sole d’Oro, created in 2017 by Dale Chihuly. The glass sculpture is 14½ x 14 x 14 feel and currently is installed at the Biltmore, Asheville, North Carolina. The exhibit will be open through October 7. (If you are unfamiliar with Dale Chihuly, you can read about him here.)
For my younger readers, you may not know who Wilma Rudolph was. Rudolph (June 23, 1940 – November 12, 1994) was an American sprinter, who became a world-record-holding Olympic champion and international sports icon in track and field. She competed in the 1956 Olympic Games winning a bronze medal. In the 1960 games she won three gold medals. To learn more about her, click here.
Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend, Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). Annie is taking a “break” from blogging, so there is no hop. Many of us still continue to post a Spark on Monday, as we believe in Annie’s vision: “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!”
Wishing everyone a day filled with sunshine!
That’s a fabulous photo of a super piece of artwork! Great Spark too!!
The Florida Furkids with bazillion smoochies and tons of love to Mau from Allie
I recognized that as a Chihuly piece. We had one in a building I worked in. His creations are beautiful.
The sun is really is like that, lighting up the entire world. Too much sun isn’t always good though. 🙂
What a terrific spark from Wilma Rudolph. Thanks for sharing it with us, friends! We love the sun, and we are big fans of Chihuly. 🙂
My Ma is the same way! She says she probably has somethings called SADD which makes you all down when there’s not enough sunshine. I thinks she’s right, I guess it’s a good thingie we live in CA, or she would have to gets one of those special lights that mimics the sun! BOL! Anyhu, that is one beautiful sculpture! I thinks I could stare at it all night….
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
Excellent spark! And that is such a cool piece of art. XO
I looked at that very sculpture yesterday. My family took me to Biltmore for my birthday. It is one of the most unique works that I have seen.
By the way, that describes how I feel about the sun and the dreary days both…to a T. We have had so much dark and so much rain here for 4 years that it has become rare to see a sunny day.
That was a beautifully wonderful Spark!
We love the sun, and the sunpuddle is like a mama’s hug when she’s at work.
We feel that way about the sun too. We wish it was shining today. All we’ve got are clouds and rain.
You and I are alike where the sun is concerned. Gloomy weather makes me gloomy.
Love the Spark.
Have a fabulous week, my friend. Scritches to all the kitties. ♥
All of this rain and gloom does have me pouting a bit, plus I really do NOT like to be COLD…shivering and wearing COATS. Yes, I had to put on a coat this weekend…bummer. Excellent post today!
I’m with you on the sunshine. It makes such a difference! I need it to recharge my personal batteries! LOL! That’s a lovely quote and I can pretty much recognize a Chihuly sculpture anywhere! So beautiful!
What a wonderful quote from Ms. Rudolph and an amazing glass sculpture from the OH SO TALENTED Mr. Chihuly to go with it. It looks like the sun sparking away bringing a smile to everyone’s face who loves sunlight! We hope to see sun ALL WEEK……what a treat it will be!
Hugs, Teddy
