A few days ago, we had some delightful, spring evening weather, so we decided to have our dinner on the deck. For once, we didn’t have too much sun, too many clouds, too much wind, snow or rain. Nor had our neighbors cranked up their lawnmowers, chainsaws or weed eaters. A few neighborhood dogs were barking sporadically but not with much fervor.
Dinner al fresco, of course, meant kitties would be present. They’d had their dinner but were still hanging around outside until dark.
We always have a
vulture cat or two hanging out at meal time. At least, that’s usually the case in the kitchen, where we are seated at the island for our meals. The two additional chairs are always occupied, usually by Lily Olivia and Mauricio. And they both need to be asked to get off the counter on multiple occasions or physically removed before the end of any meal.
Outside we eat at a standard table which is much easier to access, and we have four extra chairs…plenty of space for snoopervising, vulturing and begging. With chicken stir fry on the menu, I was ready to eat defensively.
But not one of the eight even approached.
They now have their smaller cat tree installed on the deck which was a big draw. And thanks to an evening with all channels tuned to birdy and squirrel TV, we ate in peace and the troops were entertained.
It was one of the least chaotic dinners in a very long time.
Oh wow, I would love to eat outside one day!

Rooftop restaurants charge a lot because of their amazing view, so you are very lucky! And a peaceful meal, what more could anyone ask for?
Wow, dinner AND an amazing view! 🙂
I love those pictures! My cats do the same thing on our balcony. We can put the cat tree out there though because we have a huge tree right next to it and that only leads to trouble…! They also share the table with us at dinner…we don’t have a lot of guests over 🙂
They were probably hoping they’d get a bite at least for being such GOOD KITTIES! Alas, the Humans are not so generous. It’s an outrage, really.
Aww! What lovely photos! We see a lot of birds from our TV window, but a cardinal sighting is always extra special!! Glad the humans got a nice peaceful meal too!
Hello Miss Blue and kitties! How cute you all look enjoying the weather! Just stopped by real quick to let mamma know I made a malt just for her on the blog today. I’ve been working all day on fixing 3 post that for some reason got broken…who knows…I think the designer figured it out now and they are staying up so far…so before it disappears tell mamma to stop by and have a sip! Furry kisses to all!, Lizy
Some cats are slipping. My peeps don’t know what a peaceful mean is and they won’t cos we don’s have a deck or catio.
Putting a cat tree out there was a smart move!
awww I love those kitties! I was excited to see a new post update in my email! I enjoy your site 🙂 Thanks for being such a great feline parent!
There must have been something mighty interesting going on in the yard!!!
I love all those kitty butts in a row as they peer over the deck MOL
That sure does look like a fun way to spend ANY day! Have a fun weekend!
How awesome! Dinner with a view and a movie! Can’t beat that. 🙂

If THAT is a SMALL cat tree, me would bes in heaven! And on the deck too! Wowzers!
Oh what a NICE spot to bird watch AND eat as well……dining al fresco is a lovely thing to do before the bugs move in for the summer and while the air is still nice and NOT HUMID! The cat tree is a wonderful draw for a porch….you guys look QUITE happy to have it outside where you can really keep an eye on things!
