Fiona and Giulietta’s Vet Visit
I’d like to apologize to Mom Ellen (15AndMeowing) and Mom Annie (McGuffy’s Reader) for not pawticipating in Friendly Fill-Ins his week. Mom is allowing Giulietta and me to write this post about our visit yesterday to Dr. Neel. That’s right, Giulietta had to come with me. She wasn’t happy, but it was nice to have the company. We were able to serenade the humans with some nice duets on the way there and home.
But enough of this preamble. I know you are all waiting for my report. In a nutshell…it stinks! Mom mentioned in a post a few days ago that she thought I was puny. She was right.
Though not good, my BUN had gone down a bit last month. I was not so fortunate this time. It has jumped up 29 points to 158. That’s the highest since my diagnosis last December when it was 157. Though, I have been eating the K/D kibble and getting my phosphorus binder, my phosphorous jumped way up as well. And I lost a half of a pound. All-in-all, not a good report.
I believe that I am probably on the downhill slide and losing the battle against the CKD. Nonetheless, I am happy (except for having to get subQ fluids five days per week and taking yucky medications), not in any pain and love being doted on by Mom and Dad.
Dr. Neel is quite surprised and pleased that I haven’t gotten my wings yet. She says that most kitties with numbers as high as mine were at diagnosis only survive a few months. Mom is praying that I can make it through the upcoming holidays. I am going to give it my best effort.
Before I turn this post over to Giulietta, here is our photo from the exam room. We were totally chill for the entire hour we were there. I am not too sure why we were ignoring each other.
Anyhoo…I sure could use some purrs, prayers and POTP if you don’t mind.
Thanks, purrs and paw-pats, Fiona
Wow that girl can go on and on. But please do send some good thoughts her way. I love her very much and will be terribly lonely when she leaves us.
So, I had to see Dr. Neel today as I have been having litter box issues again. I’ve also developed hyperesthesia and licked off some of my booty furs. Mom thought both issues were probably stress-related since my sis is sick. She had inspected me for fleas and flea dirt to rule that out as a reason. She couldn’t find any. When I went to the back at the vet to have my pedicure and a bit of lady-scaping in my nether regions, Dr. Neel found a flea. She brought me back to the exam room and turned me over. Mom saw a flea on my tummy. (When Fiona and I got home, we all had Advantage applied.) We’re hoping that will take care of most of my issues.
For me the worst part of the visit was the weigh-in. Like any lady, I refuse to tell my weight. I have, however, gained two pounds since April. I swear I don’t eat too much. It’s just that I eat calming food, and it has a tendency to make us kitties gain weight. I am now being put on a diet. Mom and Dad will be phasing in a new food that is supposed to have calming effects as well as be lower in calories.
I also need to get more exercise. I have never been interested in playing. I’ll pawticipate in a play session for a couple of minutes, but I am more of a spectator. Mom has ordered me a harness, and it looks like I’ll be taking walks once I get accustomed to it. Pffft! I’m not fat, I’m just a bit zoftig and super floofy.
So that’s my tale of woe. Not so bad when I think about my sis.
Thanks for visiting us. Please pray for my sisfur.
Purrs and paw-pats, Giulietta
Fiona sweetie, you are in our prayers every night and I’m purring like crazy. We’re hoping for the best for you sweetie. So sorry you have to go thru this – it’s not fun.
We are sorry to hear about Fiona. But she is in the hands of the bestest Peeps ever, and they will keep her safe and not let her suffer. We hope she has some good times still to come. Sending all of you lots of purrs and kissies XOXOXOXO
Healing purrs for Fiona.
Hopefully your excessive licking/biting isn’t hyperesthesia, but because of those dreaded fleas. They’re much easier to deal with. I hope you enjoy your harness and getting some outside adventures.
We’re sending both of you lots of purrs. CKD is such a cruel disease, but it’s true that some cats can tolerate higher numbers than others and still seem to feel fine. IT’s all about keeping you feeling OK, Fiona, and as long as you do, just cover your ears when the humans start talking about lab values. They obsess over that stuff more than we cats do.
Oh darn it, Fiona. We love you, and were so hoping your numbers would be better. We are sorry. We will keep right on purring and praying for you to be happy for a long time. We love you, too, Giulietta, and are sending special purrs for you, too.
Zulu, Amarula and Frodo all wish you the best of luck! We are sending out positive vibes for you
Oh, how sad! but we won’t give in the negative thoughts and send Positive Healing Pawkisses your way, Fiona and for you too, Giulietta and maybe I have to bring you my mousie to get you into action… 😉 Stay well my furriends 🙂 <3 <3 <3
Fiona, all my love and thoughts and prayers, darling girl. We had such a journey when ourRobin was still with us.. It is a thing that we moms and dads would give anything to have our fur babies cured.Love and purrs and prayers. Giulietta, you too, darling.
Oh Fiona…
We has the sads…Fiona yous has been hanging in there so well. Me believes it is the quality of life and not the quantity and at my advanced age and my issues, this is a topic that comes up frequently between Mommy and me. We know it will be sad for our peoples when wes goes, but mes thinks of all the wonderful furrends that has passed before and will be there–It will bes the bestest party ever!!
Mes would LOVES to carves your face on a punkin, if yous emails mes directly at nellieontheedge@gmail.com with a suitable face shot (it has to have a fair amount of contrast so even a picture that you think might not be a good photo but defines your features would be purrfect).
Sending yous all my loves and purrayers
AND KISSES
Your grrl furrend
Nellie Bellie
Purrs and prayers are being sent right now! God Bless you all.
OMC…..blame mom for not responding sooner. She’s been busy with cats, kittens, work and classes. Such a poor excuse We became unhappy when we read Fiona’s latest news. Sending heartfelt purrs and prayers to sweet Fiona. POTP has always helped …..we fur kids and mom are all sending positive vibes.
Hugs to all and extra kisses to my love Ms. Lisbeth,
Charles
How sad your pawrents must be feeling right now, dear Fiona. We are purring and pawyering as hard as we can to help you feel well enough to enjoy the upcoming holidays…maybe even longer.
Purrs fur your sisfur too.
((((( ♥ )))))
We sure are sending purrs and prayers to you dear Fiona and we sorry your numbers weren’t good. Love and hugs from all of us sweetie. Giulietta, all in all not bad sweet thing.
Fiona you are a fighter!! We know that with your Mom and Dad’s wonderful care you are definitely going to be here for the holidays and probably long after!!!! Giulietta come over and exercise with me! I could use a workout buddy! Love, Cody
Oh Fiona, we’re sorry you didn’t get the report you were hoping for. We send you lots of purrs and hope you still have many more good days ahead of you.
Giulietta, I recently went through some of this myself. I was twitching and scratching and licking up a storm. I have allergies and the vet thought that what was causing my recent problems…and they probably were…but as a precaution, I got some flea med too just in case those buggers were bugging me. 😉 My problems have cleared up now for the most part and I hope yours do too. ~Ernie
Oh, we wish you had better news from the doctor, Fiona. You are a fighter just like our dog Sheba so we hope you can fight on a little longer, and have some more time with your family. We are sending all the love and prayers we can.
Giulietta, that diet thing is no fun, but you will get through it OK, and going out for walks sounds like fun!
We’re so sad your numbers were worse, Fiona. We send you tons of purrs, and Claire sends hugs to your pawrents. Purrs
Oh Fiona sweetheart we have the sads that your results were not positive. Hang in there, we’re sending the best healing purrs we could come up with. And that is also true with you Giullietta.
Hugs to your humans.
Oh Fiona, we’re so sorry dat your nummers are bad. Mommy and sis Lexi quit watchin’ da nummers, cuz like your VET said, kitties weren’t ‘posed to last dat long with bad nummers, but we believe in God. Sissy held on as long as she could, but God needed her fur somethin’ more than me and mommy did. We don’t always agree, and we will furever miss her, but we know she is healthy and happy again, and dat’s all da matters. We purray you stay as healthy and happy as pawssible fur as long as pawssible. And we’re sorry to hear ’bout da fleas and da diet Guilletta. We’re sendin’ purrayers fur all.
Luv ya’
Dezi and Raena
Fiona, we’re sending you lots of purrs to have another turn around in your numbers. We’re glad you’re feeling well though.
Giulietta, scales are evil. Seriously. Sending you purrs as well!
Oh my Fiona, your vet visit was not so good. Our thoughts and purrayers are with you. Feel better my friend.
Giulietta’s report was pretty good. I know exactly what you mean. My hypoallergenic food is full of calories so any little snack and the weight just sits on my hips. I prefer to think I’m voluptuous not fat. Heaven’s no!
Mom wants to know how you ceberate these cat foods from the others? Any magically method mom?
Shoko
We are sending lots of prayers for you, Fiona. And healing energy, too. Giulietta, I think the scale at the vet’s office should be against the law. Who cares about weight? Love,Lexy.
Oh Fiona, I’m sorry that your numbers are back up. I am sending so many hugs and purrs your way, to both you and your mom.

Oh darn…we were hoping for a better report. Kidney issues can swing back and forth though and we’re purring and praying that you will be around for a lot longer.
The Florida Furkids with bazillion smoochies and tons of love to Mau from Allie.
Fiona we are glad of that you are happy and still enjoying being with your family who love you to bits. You have so many of an extended family loving you right back. Our Mom can deeply understand how stressful all of this is for your Mom. But all you can do is take it day by day and be in that moment. We will always keep you in our purrs and prayers.
Fiona, we will never stop purring and praying for you. You are one tough cookie, and we know you will stay with your mom and dad as long as you can. Many, many purrs and prayers to you, sweet girl! And of course many prayers and good thoughts to your mom and dad as well, as we know it is so very difficult for them to watch a beloved kitty like you go through the likes of CKD. You will all be in our thoughts and prayers.
That also goes for you, too, Giulietta. We are sorry the scales were unkind to you, and we hope you grow to enjoy walks in your harness. It sounds like fun, doesn’t it? Again, purrs and prayers to all of you!
I am so sad that you had such a bad report this time. I will say extra prayers for you Fiona, I want you to be with your family for a long time. No need to apologize for missing the fill-ins, we have all been waiting to hear your health report.
And Giuletta, I am glad the fleas were found so you could be treated. Some kitties are extra sensitive to them and I think you are one of them. As for weight, you are the perfect size. XO
Giulietta, I am so sorry that your numbers have gotten worse. It’s disappointing because you have done everything right, and they are still bad numbers. Purrs and prayers will be coming your way – M and I want you headed in the other direction.
Fiona – All in all, your report was pretty good. So you put on a few ounces – don’t we all as we get older? A diet isn’t so bad. i really liked the diet food I ate and it did help me lose weight. M couldn’t take me for walks because she has enough trouble walking herself with a walker. he he – I could always learn to ride on top of her walker. That would be fun. We hope in time that you will drop a few ounces – you can do it.
Oh Fiona – lots of love, purrayers and POTP for you ! Too bad your sisfur can’t share her wright gain with you ! Keep on keeping on, you two (and Mama).
Healing purrs and pats and kisses to everyone!!
Sending all of you our love and healing wishes. Fiona, you are a fighter … we hope you’ll be with your Mom and Dad for a lot longer. And Ms. Giulietta, you are a gorgeous ball of floof!
Fiona, we are sending you healing purrs and lots of love. We hope you are able to stay with your family for a long time.
Giulietta, diets aren’t so bad and exercise can actually be fun. ~Scylla & Family
Oh dear Fiona……I’m so sad you are not “maintaining” but from what I now know, kidney issues are just pain tough. You are a fighter obviously as even your vet says she’s surprised you don’t have your wings yet. I think we know when we are ready for that and you just aren’t! I’m on a slow decline myself it seems but let’s make a deal – whoever gets to the beautiful bridge first will save a spot in the prettiest field for the other – OK? Sending you all the POTP I can muster…………
Love, Sammy
Sammy, you are the best friend ever! Let’s shake paws on that deal. We can frolic and play and then nap in the sun. We all love you so much, and you and I will make a pact to stay around just as long as possible if we are not suffering. XOXOXO, Fiona
p.s. Our vet is going to call the manufacturer of Supplical and check that there are no contraindications for kitties with end stage kidney disease.
I hope you can try it Fiona – once in a while when Mom offers it to me I WILL eat a bit of it and it makes Mom very happy when I do. OK my friend – consider it a DEAL that we have about the Bridge…….Mom said after we left that comment for you this morning a little poem she heard when she was a youngster came back to her: “If you get to heaven before I do, make a little whole and pull me through”……… 🙂
Love, Sammy
We are sending lots and lots of POTP for you two…so sorry that you did not have good news. Hoping for much better news next time. Have a good weekend!
I am sorry that the news was worse than you were expecting. As long as your good days outnumber the bad and you are still happy, that is the most important thing. Every day together is a blessing. I am purring for you.
We are purring our best purrs for Fiona and Giulietta and hope you will be with us for a long time yet.
We are so sorry to hear about Fiona’s numbers. We’re keeping her in our prayers. She is very brave to go through all she has. We love you all.
Sorry to hear bout your numbers Fiona.
Well, that was not a fun visit! I’m purring lots for you, Fiona – I want to be happy and stick around for as long as possible!
I am so saddened to read this. We pray for you all every day; Fiona, extra prayers. We still want a miracle for her.
I am surprised by Giulietta’s news. We have not had a flea in many years. I would freak! I hope you all recover from that quickly! And, feel better.
You are special and important to me. ❤
Sending both you kitties good thoughts and prayers. I know this is hard on your Mom and Dad too.
Sending both of you all my love and all my biggest healing purrs. Kisses and cuddles to you both Fiona & Giulietta…
xoxo Clooney
