INTERNATIONAL CAT DAY 2017

International Cat Day with Cooper Murphy

International Cat Day

This is my first International Cat Day, and I am taking a short time away from Cat Scouts Summer Camp to talk with you about it. For starters, I think I am going to like having 24 hours dedicated to me, me and ME! Oh yeah, and my sisfurs and brofur Mau as well. Our humans try not to play favorites. But I am the new kid, and as I said, it is my first International Cat Day. That should get me a little something extra!

Anyhoo…International (World) Cat Day was established in 2002 by IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare). It certainly took them long enough to recognize the 500 million or so cats living around the world. The IFAW says cats are the most popular pet on the planet. I could have told them that. (The mission of the IFAW is to rescue and protect animals worldwide, including safeguarding populations and preserving habitat.)

Not all kitties are as fortunate as Kitties Blue to have loving humans to care for, feed, house and protect them. So today, my siblings and I would like to remind you that lots of kitties are waiting in shelters, in every corner of the world, for their happily ever after. If you need an excuse to adopt a cat, consider these facts: Cats can help relieve anxiety, stress and depression as well as prevent heart attacks; petting a cat has been shown to lower blood pressure. Of course, if you can’t adopt or foster, consider volunteering at a shelter and bringing some love and attention to those who aren’t as fortunate as Kitties Blue.

Of course, all cats want to be pampered, admired and revered. In fact, we expect it everyday. After all, we deserve it. But do a little something more today. We’ll always accept some extra kisses and cuddles, treats, catnip or a new toy.

Wishing all kitties a happy International Cat Day!

WORLD CAT DAY MISSED

Our muttonheaded mom did not post on World Cat Day yesterday. Holy moly cannoli, how can she be so daft as to miss a day celebrating cats worldwide? Isn’t this a blog all about us—Kitties Blue, otherwise known as C-A-T-S?

Late in the day, I took matters into my own paws and posted this on Instagram (Kitties.Blue).  After all, how can we not represent for WCD?

Misty May wishes friends happy World Cat Day.

That was exhausting to pull something together at the end of the day, so now I am having one of those Tuxie Tuesday Doozies of a Snoozy snuggled up next to my dad. The best seat in the house!

World Cat Day leads to Doozy of a Snoozy.

I blame this laxity on my humans being parked in front of the TV watching the Olympics. Some of us here at the House of Blue Cats entered a variety of events in the 2016 Blogville Pawlympics. The only event that we entered that has been contested is the Balance Beam. We are pretty bummed that we were not entered in the Silly Sleepy Furries event. MOUSES! Just another example of our mom’s ineptitude. We’ll share our Pawlympics events with you at the completion of all the competitions.

Sunday Selfies Week #104 Update and Thank You

Cat4-001We had a terrific hop to close out year number two of our Sunday Selfies, with 58 entries. We are so thankful for all who entered as well as all who commented. If you missed this historical (MOL) event, it’s not too late to enter. The hop is open for three more days, and the link to that post is beneath this one.

We kitties have been talking to Mom about doing something special for those who entered the hop all 104 weeks. She’s amenable to the idea, but we’ll just have to wait and see what she does. When we know something, one of us will share.

That’s it from me (THE cat on Mom’s head).

WORLD CAT DAY CATURDAY ART

World Cat Day Badge 2015

Today is World Cat Day. We thought Mom would create some art for Athena and Marie’s Caturday Art Blog Hop that would be representative, but as you can see, that didn’t happen. But we will celebrate the day nonetheless. We just hope that means extra treats!

Giulietta is the subject of today’s Caturday Art. Mom used Picasa, PicMonkey and Photo.Funia to create our submission to Athena and Marie’s Blog Hop. The most obvious effect is the one that turned this into an Andy Warhol-type painting. Some of the filters Mom used were neon, HDR and a lavender frost.

worldThis is the slightly blurry photo of Giulietta Mom used to create today’s art project. She loved the expression on Giulietta’s face and her cute toes on the arm of the chair. Like so many of Mom’s photos, it has a really cluttered background which was disguised in the final creation.

To participate in the Caturday Art Blog Hop or view the other submissions, click on Athena and Marie’s Badge.

Cat4-001Tomorrow is the Sunday we thought last Sunday was…the 52nd week of our Sunday Selfies Blog Hop. Last week we reported on the number of selfies each of us had posted. Astrid won and declared herself Queen of the Selfies. We also discovered that Misty May had the fewest selfie posts. So Mom has promised her that she has center stage tomorrow. Now she just has to convince Misty May to take some selfies. Obviously this is not an easy task. If it were, Misty May would have been featured more than two times during the year. Please join Misty May tomorrow for this significant Sunday Selfies milestone.

Wishing all of our friends, including the ones we haven’t met yet, a very happy World Cat Day. And sending a huge thank you to Zoolatry’s Ann for creating the great graphic.
