Sunday Selfies: Week #321
Lisbeth is here as our selfie representative for World Animal Day (also known as World Pet Day). The day, annually observed on October 4, is an international celebration for animal rights and welfare. World Animal Day unites those who advocate for the better treatment of animals and work in the animal welfare movement. The day began in Berlin, Germany, in 1925. Today, the movement is a global force to make the world a better place for all animals.
October 4 also is the Feast Day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology and animals. He believed humans are duty-bound to protect nature as stewards of God’s creation. As legend has it, Saint Francis was able to talk to animals. This is why he often is depicted in works of art and statuary surrounded by animals. (We have a statue of St. Francis in our yard in the area where sisters, Daphne, Thelma and Louise, are buried.)
Saint Francis’ Feast Day is the customary day for Catholic and Anglican churches to hold “Blessing the Animals” ceremonies.

Hopping Time
We cannot think of a better day for hopping than one celebrating animals and the Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi. It is a great time to get together and share your cute faces with all your friends. And in the process, you might even meet and make some new friends.
For those of you who continue to join us each week, Kitties Blue and I are truly appreciative. And if you are new to Sunday Selfies, we welcome you and hope you will join us often. As a reminder, it is not necessary to post on Sunday to join us. The hop remains open through Thursday.
Have a purrfect and easy Sunday.
